Message to owners : Worst restaurant experience ever ! The owners or owners family had atleast 4 kids running all over the restaurant screaming their heads off continuously. You would think they would have controlled the situation considering they had customers , but nope they didn't do anything until I said I want the food to go and that's when they left . They never apologized or nothing so disrespectful! What a way to show new customers that you appreciate them ! The place is lame but the food is okay not bad at all. I ate here today for lunch although I ordered the entree plate of beef shawarma. It was good but unlike the other reviews it didn't rise to greatness. It was served on a medium sized round plate with a ring of hummus along the edge. Not much color or interesting to look at. One thing that I recommend diners to stay away from is the God awful Lebanese Iced Tea. I ordered it on a recommendation from a previous reviewer. It's iced tea with "Rose water". Its an unbelievably strong taste. As if you put very fragrant rose petals in your drink. It's so strong that it fills your nostrils with that fragrance thereby not allowing you to truly getting the flavor of the dish you're eating. I couldn't drink but about a few swallows with my meal. If you're with a group of people and you feel you want to try it....order only one glass and share it. You'll soon see what I'm talking about. The restaurant itself is okay. The food here is outstanding. Without a doubt the best middle eastern restaurant in New Orleans. And Houston too, for that matter. The prices are very reasonable and the quality is high. We ordered the lamb kabob plate for lunch, medium rare. Nailed it, lol... Meat tender, flavorful and cooked perfectly. The salad was not an afterthought, it was excellent. We are still talking about it - salad! Hummus was great, the rice delicious. Generous portions of each item on the plate. My son has chicken shawarma and it too was a 10. The seasoning was unique and quite memorable! The food is just outstanding. The service was friendly and fast. My only criticism is the atmosphere, ethnic utilitarian with plastic tablecloths. This place may be a little out of the way but it is well worth it. It is reasonably priced and a well kept secret. The lunch and dinner portions are a lot for what you pay for. After reading some reviews I was going to skip lunch. I passed by the Carrollton location and wondered what happened to this restaurant. Then I read they moved to Kenner. Mona's is concentrated in New Orleans, but a move of this place to Kenner was a wise move. I got a gyro and a chicken sharwma sandwich because I only had 30 minutes for lunch. It was about a 5 minute drive, and by the time I glanced through the Arabic newspaper hidden on a table my order was ready. The vegetables were so fresh it would make a vegetarian out of Neanderthal man. The cucumber sauce was excellent. The lamb and chicken was incredible and in my opinion, hangs anyone else out to dry. Overall, it was CLEAN, fresh, fast, convenient, cool & courteous. What more could you ask for? Pictures! Well I didn't have my phone on my hip but I wouldn't mind bringing someone there to impress them.. There's always something gaffed up in a restaurant, but not here. Calm, quiet, collective, & attractive. It was disturbing to know that halfway around the world there must be a place as nice as this that is without power and under siege. Like they say "it makes a difference when the owners are there". Maybe they weren't the owners because I did not take Farsi in college. But my best friend "Don Churchman" graduated from the American school in Kuwait and spoke perfect Arabic. His interpretations really made me like Arabic people more than Jewish. Most underrated Mediterranean place in town. Been going for years and never been disappointed with any dish. If you like Hummus, you must try the Hummus and Lamb on the menu. I'm only putting two stars because the waitress was great. I asked if i can have another piece of meat because the meat they gave me was spoiled, so i walked to the bathroom and i can hear the owner /cook yelling at the young lady "why you didn't tell her eat it" and she said "because that's unsanitary" and he simply said that to give it back to me in 5 min. That's completely disgusting so i said I'm not paying for that meal. The son of the owner told me if i didn't pay for the meal then the cops would be called. This store is cheap and unsanitary. They reuse the bread from people who don't eat it that's left on the table, the fish tank was horrible. They do not clean the store thoroughly and the service ,besides the waitress, was horrible!! I have been eating at this place for the last 20 years. Before Katrina they used to have their location on carrolton. That's where i began to enjoy their cooking. They serve their tabboulli so fresh, the hummus with lamb is so delicious with roasted pine nuts. The mint tea is so good, you see the mint leaves in it. Also, the veggie grape leaves are so yummy.I enjoy eating here so much. It is a little bit farther for me now, but it is worth it. Thanks Waffa and Musa for the awesome food you cook. read more
