Had a Brazilian with Taru yesterday. Who actually enjoys the process of getting this done? Surprisingly it was not as painful as I remember when I've went to European wax center. I've been coming here for years - since the business opened and originally loved it. Occasionally someone would trim my brows when asked not to trim and others shaped one brow way off (they would look like "cousins" more than "sisters" once threaded) but now that the mandates have been dropped in NYC this business has decided to uphold the mask mandate. I've just had a facial that cost me half a paycheck with my sensitive skin, negative COVID test and proof of vaccination and they still demanded I wear a mask... you touch peoples faces for gods sake, like around the eyes and nose, not to mention offer *intimate* waxing... after a certain point you have to accept the mask isn't worth it. After tonight's appointment I'll be going elsewhere for my tints until they drop the mask mandate. read more

Shobha is the absolute best as far as quality, service and cleanliness. Been a client for 10 years for waxing and threading...but I recently completed my package series for underarm laser. WOW! Honestly I am blown away! Let me set the scene: I am terrified of any kind of bikini waxing. I have never felt this anxious or stressed about something (!) and as a result have only ever really waxed my bikini line 5 times in my life... i'm in my 30s! Quick and thoughtful responses. Due to some personal delays I was extremely late, however they took me in shortly after I arrived despite cautioning me waiting a bit if those with appointments arrived. I have been doing laser hair removal at Shobha with specialist, Taru, for nearly 5 years now. It is hands down the best body care decision I've ever made. For years I tweezed and shaved, and I was dealing with acne and itchy skin. I was coming to Shobha for threading, and Taru would talk to me about my skin problems and reccommend that I try laser hair removal. She knew that I was scared of it, and talked me through every step of the way calmly and carefully. Without her, I would have never tried laser hair removal.Ever. I was so nervous about my extremely sensitive skin that she lasered one single hair on me and let me go home and "sleep on it." I went right back to her at Shobha the next day, ready for a real appointment! Thanks to Taru's patience, attention to detail and expertise, my skin has never felt so smooth & clear. I should have known this would be a terrible experience when I walked in! There was a woman trying to pay and for reasons I didn't know she was yelling at the girl behind the counter! Before I came I called customer service to tell them what I needed and ask how much it would cost, I was getting a laser hair removal touch-up on my bikini and a touch-up under my arms.. I had laser years ago so am very familiar with the process and how it works with my hair. They told me as it was 'only a touch-up' it would be around $140.. the lady who did my laser was lovely, but as usual it was extremely painful! When I went to pay the girl was so rude, didn't look me in the eye and was very dismissive. They ask what percentage I wanted to tip and I told them 20% and asked for a receipt. The receipt never came, but checking my bank a few days later I noticed I was charged almost $300!! I emailed them straight away, as I had clearly been over charged. When someone got back to me they said they would look into it and get back to me.. about a week later I get a call from someone else explaining that I was charged the correct amount and apologizing for the fact that no one told me how much it would cost! During the time I had been to the appointment and the two weeks after I had noticed that my hair was not falling out like it was meant to after laser.. so after all this expense the treatment didn't even work!! When I told the woman this she went into a lecture on how hair grows, not releasing that I have worked in the beauty industry as a beauty editor for years! When I explained to her I knew how hair grew and that after the over priced treatment that didn't even work should be refunded.. she continued with her lectures.. all I will say is, this place is OVER PRICED and the staff at the front desk are rude! And after all that the laser treatment DOES NOT WORK! Find somewhere else to get your laser!! A total waste of money! read more

I've done both threading and sugaring. The threading was quick and efficient, the woman didn't ask me any questions about how I would like my brows but I was fine with it since she just followed the shape they were already. I didn't love the sugaring. Once I got home I noticed there seemed to be a lot of hair left behind which I dealt with. I also got a bit of a rash from the whole process, I think I will go back to hard wax next time. read more

I had a great experience at Shobha for an opening event! The staff is really welcoming and kind to all guests. The space is extremely clean and beautiful! If you frequent salons in NYC you know that cleanliness is not always a given. At Shobha you get a salon experience and excellent quality. My service was quick and care was taken to detail. Thank God for this Williamsburg location! It has saved me a trip into the city to its sister location in soho. Conveniently located near Blue Bottle coffee. In walking distance to the L train. It is crystal clean, modern, tastefully decorated with beautiful lighting. Joy, the receptionist is professional, welcoming and accommodating. If you're lookin for a wax technician, ask for Rashmita (although I'm sure the others are skillfully trained) Don't waste your time in a nail salon or any other place. I had a really great experience and wanted to share. I went in for threading for my brows, upper lip, and sideburns. I hadn't had them done in ages and was not looking great. Davinder was gentle and professional and did a wonderful job. We decided to sugar my sideburns instead of threading (though she cleaned up stray fine hairs with thread) and they looked great. She also suggested I might enjoy tinting my brows after she threaded them, which I had been nervous to do as I have dark hair on my head but my brows are quite light. I trusted her and am so glad I did, she explained what she was going to do and why, and they turned out AMAZING. best of all, I will save time in the mornings not having to pencil in my brows. Davinder is a queen and I will be back for all my threading and sugaring needs! read more

Loved this place! I have been going to one place downtown for my hair removal needs, but now will keep going to Shobha! The staff were all so nice and friendly! They even helped me out and gave me a big discount, $150 turned to $78! Make sure to bring your student ID or military ID for 20% off :) the environment was clean, the space was not busy at all (considering it was late afternoon on a week day). If you're planning to go on a weekend, make an appointment. It's worth the bit of extra money (for brow threading, tinting, Brazilian wax, and underarm wax). Though, by using my discount it will be much less than my past spot. The Brazilian wax was the least painful I have ever had! The wax was super gentle. Highly recommend!! The general attention to detail was up to par. The small details (rosewater to calm, cool compresses etc.) added to the clean environment. Loved it! 10/10 would recommend. read more

Great experience. Friendly and welcoming staff, super clean and no wait. Tried sugaring on my upper lip and they even threaded afterwards to ensure all the hair was gone. The threading was hands down the least painful I've ever experienced. Very calming with a cold cloth afterwards that smells like rose water and even some cortisone cream to calm the redness. So disappointed I spent money here. The woman who threaded my eyebrows was nice and did a good job but this review is about the front desk person. When she noticed it was taking a long time for the threader to finish up her last client, she went and rudely yelled at her that I was waiting. Pretty sure you could have done that more professionally. She was rude to every customer that came in, told me 6-7 times to download the Shobha app to pay, then tried to embarrass me when I said I want to pay by using my card. She rolled her eyes and said "If you just download the app you won't have to do allll this in front of everyone," meaning show you my card so you can enter the numbers in your computer? It's not that hard. But then she tried charging me another girl's services and I'm glad I was paying attention because I had to tell her this was wrong. I was trying to be understanding given the times but I witnessed her act like this to 6 other customers while I was there, including a client who came in to make a complaint.
