This review is for sugaring. I am giving Shobha three stars because the Brazilian sugaring was used like sugar wax not the traditional sugaring. The beautician applied it with a stick and waxed it with strips as opposed to using the sugar ball to remove the hair. This technique does not last as long (hairs grew back much faster), left me with ingrown hairs, and this technique is not as effective (left me with straggling hairs that I noticed the next day). That said, I love their products- the coconut oil deodorant and the exfoliating cloth and the staff and beautician provided excellent service. read more

While the location is quite clean and nice, my threading was done by an amateur who unfortunately forgot some of her routine practice of using the numbing gel and then made a mistake (which, to her credit she immediately admitted) that left me needing to use an eyebrow pencil (which I have never used a day in my full eyebrow life). i am disappointed in the dire lack of training for these gals... they all seemed very kind and earnest, they deserve to be trained properly so they can do their job as well as they want to. read more

I really like Shobha NYC so I was excited to try the DC location. Unfortunately, the only good part about my visit was my interaction with the incredibly nice and pleasant front desk woman who offered to discount my treatment when I explained how awful it was to her. Where to start on why this was so bad... during my first visit the woman doing my waxing burnt me. Also, the hair started growing back in a week and a half later and very thickly. When I went back in after four weeks, she accused me of shaving, since the hair grew back so thick. It was then that I realized that the reason it grew back so quickly the first time was because she broke the hairs instead of pulling them out. During this most recent visit, she called the short hairs that she broke with her awful waxing technique ingrowns and said that the fact that I shaved A YEAR AGO was why the waxing went so badly. My friend goes to a location in new York everytime she goes home, so we drove from Baltimore for their happy hour special, $75 for eyebrow threading and Brazilian waxing. I was in! Michelle, I think she maybe the store manager was extremely pleasant, knowledgable about the products and services, and warm. The spa is bright, clean and smelled wonderful. Sunita did my brows and wax, shewasreally nice and professional. My wax was not pain free......as would be expected, but she was comforting and tried to "lessen tHe blow" so to speak. I ended up purchasing a buy one get one Love and Toast hand lotion.. I really do like that all of their products are all natural, biodegradable. I'll be back in a couple of weeks to touch up this brazillian. One last thing...it seems as though they strive to provide a high level of customer service and they really set the mark high, I appriciate staff that interacts with its customers in a warm, comforting way, without crossing the line of inappropriatness. read more

I've tried brazilians all over DC, and I already bought the 3-pack to come back. The service was efficient, pain-free, and pleasant (hot tea and organic candy!). I had never tried sugaring, and my esthetician was patient and did a test strip. The front desk staff was also super friendly. While I received exactly what I was looking for, I caution those that do or do not like certain methods (threading, etc.) to communicate more because I felt that I was heard. read more

After my bad threading experience, the manager in New York Lindsey emailed me and even asked me to call her. I did and she was extremely apologetic and even gave me a free balm to use that cleared my cuts right away. And she offered to give me a free appointment next time with another threader who she highly recommends. I must say I was impressed that she took the time to respond to my concerns because a lot of businesses wouldn't. So I give them 3 stars for customer service. read more

This was my first experience here. I have heard great reviews from friends and thought I would try it out. I was very disappointed. My waxer left lots of stumble and didn't feel the need to remove it. It is now growing back in patches...I was also in pain for a good 2 days afterwards. I will try them 1 more time, with a different waxer, and hope my experience will be different. read more

When they are good, they are very good and when they are bad they are horrid. Just left with wacky misshapen eyebrows and a missing chunk of skin. Was told that I would have a new person, but that she was good. Would prefer not to be your training wheels. Now I'll need to have this mess cleaned up when skin heals. So glad this place made the migration down the east coast! It was my go to in NYC and will be here. I am more than happy to pay the higher prices for better and friendlier service, better ambience, and cleanliness! It's unbelievable how many places in DC double dip when waxing, and, honestly, that's just gross. The DC location isn't as seamless as the NYC locations, but really, that's to be expected. If on my next visit, things are still a bit disorganized, then I might have to edit my review, but until then, I'm a big fan. read more

I've done waxing, threading and laser hair removal with Shobha over the past couple of years and have always had a good experience. The employees are kind and professional. They always offer to schedule the next appointment but are never pushy. I especially appreciate how open they are to feedback and they generally have followed up with me when I have completed surveys about my experience. I booked an appointment last minute before a trip, this is not my usual salon. I got there and it was very clean and the desk staff was really sweet! I was told that my associate was new so I would be receiving 20% off. Honestly, this was the worst waxing experience I have had. I have dark burns. First, the associate did not leave the room when I changed, which I thought was odd. Secondly, she was unsuccessful when physically waxing, failing to get all the hair and going back over three or four times in the same sensitive area. I would not return to the salon nor would I recommend choosing a new associate. I'm sure the veteran employees are wonderful (as I read on Yelp previously before going to Shobha) but wow, I was really disappointed. Now a week and a half later, hair is growing back faster than in prior experiences and I STILL have burn marks that have not healed. Do not recommend! 2 stars because of the kind desk staff. read more

Made a last minute appointment today and I'm so glad I did. I originally made an appointment with someone else, but ended up seeing April, who was a guest for the day. I hope she comes on full time because she was phenomenal!!! There was little discomfort and I'm very pleased with the results. The front desk staff was very friendly too. It was a little weird that they don't leave the room while you undress, but as a dancer, I'm used to the lack of privacy. The only reason why I'm not giving it a 5 is because refreshments weren't offered during the wait. Will definitely be returning! read more

After being a huge fan of the Shobha locations in New York, I was curious to see how the DC location would be. I had a great experience there. The lady who did my eyebrows did a fantastic job. When I looked in the mirror when she was done, my eyebrows looked PERFECT. Yes, this location still opened so of course they are still working out the logistics of everything but they are far from being unorganized. Everyone I interacted with was super nice and friendly which is rare in DC which seems to have poor customer service everywhere. The only negative thing is that the prices are REALLY expensive. However, you are paying for the experience, the products used (natural/organic) and attention to service (all employees at Shobha are thoroughly trained and certified) - I've been to Dupont Threading and they do a good job but customer service and cleanliness are hardly their strong suit. I never saw anyone there wash their hands between customers which is unhygienic considering they go from doing one person's eyebrows to another person's bikini wax. At Shobha, the employees clean their hands between customers and the products they use are all natural for the most part. I will definitely return to this location and recommend it to all my friends. read more

This is my first review ever on Yelp and I felt like I needed to write it. This review is only about the manager there. The women who actually do the treading are fine. I had been getting threaded for years and had been going to another place in the area. I recently had a baby and had a stroller, so I tried this place because there were no stairs. At the time my baby was only a month and sleeping in the stroller the two times I attempted to get threaded. The manager was extremely rude to me and said that I needed someone to stay with my baby while I was getting my lip threaded. This would only take 5 minutes and my baby was sleeping in the stroller. I explained that I did not have someone to watch my baby and asked that I could just leave the stroller by my side. Both times I went it was midday and no one else in the store. I understood the policy if I had a baby that was crying or running around, but that was not the case. The manager was so rude to me and made me leave in tears. I then returned to my other place I went to prior, Dupont Threading, where the women were so sweet and literally helped me carry my stroller up and down the stairs, and even helped to entertain my baby while I was getting threaded. I really hate this place and recommend everywhere stay away! read more
