I brought in two pairs of sandals that my dog had chewed up. The Shoe Doctor was upfront--he said one pair couldn't be fixed, but he'd do his best on the other. I appreciated the honesty and effort. He stitched them up as well as he could, and while I've never had shoes repaired before (so I can't say if it was an amazing job or not), I was satisfied with the results. After trying to visit his repair store because of the hours, I finally made it during my lunch break. I brought in 2 boots because the heal fell off. He didn't say anything but "where is the mate" I said, didn't bring it. I said, i finally made it do you really need the other boot? He said, "if the hours don't' work you should go someplace else". I said, really and he said, yes, with the face of disgust. He said, you should go to the shoe repair on Metairie Rd. I said, where is that, he said "google it"! I spend a lot of money on shoes, and I take them here for repairs and protective soles. They have a quick turnaround time (usually within a week), and the work is always seamless. They even have red protective soles for my Christian Louboutins. I recommend this place to all my friends who buy nice shoes and want them to last! Prices for the things I get done usually run about $25 (heels lowered, protective soles). You have to pay in advance for the work, and they take cash or credit cards (no checks). This is the only shoe repair shop I would recommend. Have taken really nice shoes there for several years and have great things to say about them. Agreed...they also have red protective soles as well as nude colored ones for those In Style NUDES. Prices are now $30 for the protective soles and so worth every penny. This was the second time I've used the Shoe Doctor, and also the second time I've been quite pleased with the results. The proprietor is a no-nonsense, to-the-point fella, but he does great work and is reasonably priced. The new heels he beautifully cobbled onto my black dress shoes essentially resurrected them from the dead and gave them a whole new life. $25 is definitely a better option than spending over a hundred on a new shoes! Great service and prices. They usually get your shoes back in less than a week - and repairs are a fraction of what you would pay for new. Staff is very knowledgeable, in addition to shoes they also do leather repairs - and make keys. They are now in their 12th year of business. If you are in the mood for tons of negative vibes, this is the place for you. They actually do nice work, fine craftsmanship, but the negative attitude by the owner is off the chart. My family laughed at me when I told them that I was banned from this store, because apparently, they do not like you leaving shoes there for over a year and a half. Okay, maybe it's closer to two years. I know, but before you take sides, you should know that I thought I lost those lovely Tory Burch riding boots. I accused all of my teenage daughters of stealing them from closet. As I was dropping in the shop for a big negative dose of energy and dropping shoes, of course, I asked the tall Dennis Downer if they happened to have a pair of previously mentioned boots. He scurried to the back and returned to the counter with a whole new level of visible steam streaming from his nostrils and mumbled something about charging me RENT for my boots. Naturally, I was all smiles upon locating my treasures. All the memories came flooding back. In my defense, the posted sign clearly says that they donate shoes that are not picked up in about 90 days. Well, he should have followed his own rules and donated the dang boots and we could have skipped past our now complicated situation. Anyway, after he mumbles about rent, I smile and begin to tell him about the shoes I am dropping off. He can no longer hear me as he is lost in a covid like fog with a bit of seething going on. He abruptly takes my shoes and shoves them at me and says "just leave". There you have it, so I am giving 5 stars for craftsmanship and 1 star for attitude. I brought in a pair of Ugg slippers to be stitched up on the inside seam. They did the work for $10/shoe and I went on my way. One month later one of the slippers broke again. I brought it back to show them and was told "I'm not going to deal with this anymore." I was thinking he would repair it for free since he obviously did a poor job the first time (if he hadn't I would have been able to wear them longer than one month) but was turned away instead. I've been a customer for years and dealt with their mostly unfriendly customer service, but there's no need to put up with them. Time for a new cobbler. read more

Horrible Experience! Been going here for 5 years and they have done great work. The last two go around have been terrible. When I finally complain about the poor quality of work with my shoes, the owner said he was going to return my $10, so I can go some where else. I agreed and handed him my receipt. He all of sudden got extremely angry and said NO! He did $10 dollars worth of work and he's NOT giving me my money. He rather loose patronage of 5 years over $10. They do not stand behind there work. I don't usually write reviews but I felt compelled to tell you how horribly rude the man is who works here. I brought in 6 pairs of very high end shoes and boots to have protective soles put on. He told me that it would be next week before I could have them back. I asked if there was any way possible to have one pair back for Friday because I needed them for the weekend. He told me very rudely, "no next week is the soonest that you could have them." I then went to give him all of my shoes except for the one pair I needed for the weekend and he asked me to take them out of the plastic shoe boxes (which keep them nice). He told me that he did not have room for boxes. I asked if my shoes were all going to be stacked on top of each other (seeing the piles of shoes thrown everywhere). He told me "yes, you have a problem with that?" I told him that I feared my shoes would get messed up. He told me VERY rudely "take your shoes, I'm not working on them!" Deplorable customer service!! I will NEVER make the mistake of returning to this place again. I brought a pair of expensive, high-end booties to be repaired. After one of the workers in the shop examined one shoe and left a mark on the camel-colored leather, I politely (I was cringing inwardly) asked that they exercise care, as the leather was extremely soft. Apparently, it is unacceptable to give ANY sort of instructions or make a comment if you are concerned about your footwear (see Heidi D's review), because the worker who is notoriously rude flipped out and told me it was "too much trouble," and he didn't want to deal with it. I told him I couldn't wear the shoes if they were not repaired, but he did not care. He then asked if I was going to leave my husband's shoes I had brought with me to be repaired (ha!). I took both pairs and left, in shock at being treated so shabbily. I will happily give my business to Famous Shoe Repair on Metairie Road from now on, and I recommend that anyone who is in need of shoe repair service do the same!
