Stains on my shoe after the repair.

We need to have a "0" Option for stars. I will NEVER EVER AGAIN bring anything here. I went there 3 times to pick up my shoes after the date he promised each time and they were never ready. So on this last attempt I was asked to wait for them while he completed the repair. Once I finally got them I noticed that the left shoe had multiple stains that weren't on them when I brought them in. I'm very angry about it. I'm not going to even waist my time bringing them back him. I'll have to see if there's anyway to salvage them. Good money down the drain. He can't keep up with all the work his has. So I guess that's why he closes the shop down for a week at a time.

Silence can be powerful, but here, it was laced with disregard. I approached the man in the black apron, the one with the small gapped tooth and even smaller sense of professionalism, and asked a simple question: what could be done to clean my shoes? His answer--uncertain, uninterested, and lacking any skillful persuasion, was that he didn't know what would come out. No solutions, no confidence, no seduction of the sale. Just cold indifference. Then, without invitation, he launched into heel replacement prices for all four pairs. I never asked for heel replacements. I came for a shine. His response was not only tone-deaf, it was a clear attempt to shift the conversation into something I didn't ask for. Perhaps a poor strategy, or perhaps the result of someone who's lost their love for the craft. Either way, I didn't bite. When I questioned his approach, he snapped, "You don't have to leave your stuff here." I replied calmly, "I won't leave it here if you don't want me to." He waved me away like a nuisance and disappeared into the back. A man who holds no power, grasping at control in the weakest way possible. What truly sealed the impression was the woman at the front. She watched it unfold and did nothing. Inaction is a form of action. And her silence said everything I needed to know: my presence was unwelcome, and my business unwanted. Let this review be a quiet warning, not a loud complaint. Some places are simply not worthy of your time or money. Withdraw your presence. They will feel the loss more than your words. After the owner passed away, this place has gone terribly wrong. There are better places out there with affordable places where they would love you and your business.

Brought them by and the gentleman took them, and was super efficient and to the point about what I needed. Gave me a ticket and said they'd call me in a week. They called me in a week, gave me the total and they're great. I was a little surprised that they didn't use black since the rest of the bottom and what was lost was black but not enough to care. Those soles will be black soon enough after trudging through these streets. $18.50 (cash only!) for two heel replacements (he did the other one so that I wouldn't be lopsided) and I'm back walking the streets (uhhhhh, you know what I mean.) Caveat: the place smells of cigarette smoke so if you're very sensitive or allergic you may want to send someone for you. I don't think they smoke inside (it's not smoky) but the gentleman smokes so maybe it's just him? I can't say if my boots smelled when I got them back because they're leather and have been through worse.

I had to go three different days to try to pickup my one shoe that had a strap being fixed. It was promised to be ready in a Friday but was not ready until the next week on the Wednesday. All three times that I visited the store the owner did not open on time. She was a half hour late the first day, an hour late the other two days. Her excuse was that her husband died 4 months ago and she is not coming in early like he used to. Instead of changing the hours on the door and online she just comes when she pleases while multiple customers wait in the parking lot. I will never return.

But the pull tab on a different pair of boots had come unsewn, and the repairs for that were a disaster. After two attempts, I took the boots and am going to look for another repair shop to fix the atrocious job Village Shoe Repair did. Because of the mixed reviews here and the cost of the Lori Piana boots I needed repaired, I took lots of photos before dropping them off in case they got lost or damaged. This seemed like a simple fix, just open up the back of the boot where the thread came undone, reinsert the pull tab, and resew it in then sew the back up. The first time I picked up the boots, I was rushing to get to a meeting and didn't do a close inspection in the store. It looked like the repaired tab was a little longer than the other one, but I put them on and went to my meeting. As I was walking back to my office, I noticed I was getting a blister on my Achilles where the repair was done. So I took a look, and it was obvious that they tried to sew the pull tab together then just glued it to the top of the boot instead of actually putting it back into the shoe. Not surprisingly, the glue didn't even last a day of walking before the pull tab had fallen out again, which was causing the blister. The next morning--24 hours after I picked them up--I took the shoes back to Village to have them repair their "repair." I explained in detail that they can't just glue it back on, they'd have to open the back and sew it in place. They never apologized, they initially acted like they had no idea who I was and asked where I got the shoes fixed the first time (I thought the guy was joking--he'd literally cashed me out the day before for these exact boots). I just picked them back up from the second repair. First, it took them nearly half an hour to actually find the boots. They have no system of organization. They put shoes in white plastic bags and throw the bags in piles all over the store. It took so long that they kept asking me to come back in an hour. I explained I couldn't do that and would wait, and they seemed annoyed by having to dig through the mountains of shoes to find mine. Second, while they actually did sew the tab in this time, the sewing is sloppy and scratchy, they used white thread instead of brown, they sewed the tab in crooked and off center, and they made it shorter than the other tab. When I pointed out the thread color, they took the boot to the back, PAINTED THE THREAD brown, and brought it back to me. I pointed out the other poor workmanship issues, and the guy said I brought the tab torn so they had to sew it short and crooked. I showed him the pictures I took in my car before walking in to drop off the boots the first time--the photos clearly show the tab intact--and he said "Well why didn't you call the manufacturer about your new boots breaking." Moral of the story, I'll never come back to Village and am posting this to try to save others the hassle. But if you must use this shop, at least don't get leather shoes repaired here. Document the condition of your shoes before leaving them to be repaired. And do a close inspection of the "repairs" in the store before paying or leaving.
