I brought my Blundstones here to have the soles replaced and was charged $120. When I dropped them off, I was told the new soles were high quality and that the boots would essentially last me a long time. Based on that explanation and the price, I expected a professional, durable repair. When I picked the boots up, it became clear that the soles had been glued on. The shop owner later stated that this was explained upfront, though I don't personally recall it being emphasized in a way that made it clear this would be a glue-only repair with no stitching or reinforcement. Regardless, I was not expecting the quality of the work to be this poor. The glue job looked sloppy, and the soles started coming apart not long after I got them back. If I had understood that this repair would be glue-only and done at this level of quality, I would not have gone through with it and would have put the money toward a new pair of boots instead. I no longer live in Portland, so I wasn't able to return immediately. About six months later, when I was back in town, I brought the boots in again. To his credit, he agreed to redo the gluing . Unfortunately, even after the second attempt, the work still looks messy and you can still see the glue coming apart in some places. Although he was somewhat nice about it, for the price charged and the expectations set about longevity, this was a big disappointment. DO NOT TAKE YOUR EXPENSIVE SHOES HERE unless you want them destroyed!! Adding protective bottoms to brand-new shoes costs $150 or more per pair, and they end up looking terrible afterward. I also paid $30 for a shoe tree offered and it's an old pair from Nordstrom. When I went back to complain about the excess paint, poor line work, and melted arches, he replied, "What did you expect?" Bought a new pair of Nicks boots. Sized properly per the manufacturer, but couldn't get them on. This is not uncommon. Strange methods to solve this are on the internet. Guillermo was referred to me by my closest cobbler (I live downtown). I guess the Shoe Shop can stretch boots in a variety of ways, not just the direction I needed to be able to put my feet in. I've been bringing my repairs to Shoe Shop for eighteen years now. They completely earned my business when I brought them a damaged leather coat. The repair ended up being more complicated than expected but they still only charged the quoted amount. My husband brought in a pair of my beautiful vintage boots and asked to stretch them a bit because they were half a size too small. This is a completely normal, standard request and any reputable cobbler should have been able to do that without any problems. These amateurs RUINED my boots. There are cracks and big crooked marks across the toe boxes and a few places where the leather has been gouged. I don't even know how they managed to do that. I went to the shoe shop in Happy valley where I have gone many times and have received good work done on my shoes. Today I picked up my shoe, and agian good work had been done. However when he qouted me a price for the repair it was $16.99. I didn't look at my ticket until today, and it said $17.63. When I asled him what the extra was for he said it was a percentage that his machine adds on to cover his VISA loss. I asked him where he posted that information to the public. He said it was done by his bank, and he had no control over it. Yes, if a retailer plans to charge a fee for using a credit card, they are legally required to post a sign clearly notifying customers about the surcharge, usually at the point of entry and at the point of sale, so customers are aware before making a purchase; this is considered best practice to avoid customer confusion. It wwasnt the $.62 cents. It was the idea that he had not posted the proper signage. People should know what they are paying for. read more

They took a pretty big chunk out of my boot on the belt sander then tried to hide it by caking on a thick coat of wax. I had to clean all the wax off as everything was sticking to it, and found the damage. These are work boots so I probably wouldn't have minded if he was honest, but trying to hide it isn't right. I recently came into the Shoe Shop with a pair of my son's cowboy boots. The soles had holes worn all the way through and the heel was pretty warm down. Upon entering the shop I observed the cobbler helping a customer who wanted to buy supplies to clean and polish her shoes at home. He took the time to fully answer all of her questions and was very patient. She spent less than $10, but he treated her like a high dollar client. When he assisted me he went through the options, including cost, materials, and durability. We picked up the repaired boots and were very pleased with the workmanship and overall value. I returned with two pairs of leather flats and a pair of Birkenstocks in need of resoling. The owner of the shop treated us like regulars and gave me a quote for the shoes after looking them over.
