I love being able to get my shoes repaired close to home and help reduce waste while also supporting a local business. This place is no-nonsense, you go in, tell them what is wrong with the shoe and they repair it. The place is exactly what you want a shoe repair shop to look like which is cluttered, full of shoes, and very clearly with workspace in the back. Its nice to know that places like this still exist with people who know they're trade. We are all so far removed from so much of the day to day goods we consume that its a good reminder that people are still relevant. The parking in downtown Beaverton can be a bit full sometimes but this place is easy to get to and find. They do great work and have fair prices, which not all boot and shoe repair places can say the same. I have worked with them several times. Shoes come back in great shape. Turn around time was a little slow as they have a lot of backlog. I had them repair 4 pairs of shoes of mine: went from a riding heel to a more work friendly heel on a pair of old Chippewa's I had. Did a new outsole on a nice pair of dress heritage Redwings--but they put a new heel on it instead. So they kept the boot longer to then repair the outsole. Had them put a new crepe sole on a pair of Danners--was great. Had them put a new sole on my Birkenstocks--which again I specified a custom rubber sole they offered and they ended up putting on a standard Birk sole. Those wear out for me prematurely. I did not have them redo that. Just had them reimburse me the cost difference I had already paid for the custom sole. Would go to them again and make sure they write notes. Are they TRYING to go out of business?! I should have read the reviews before entrusting Vanek's with my new Nikes to put a 1/2" riser in after a hip replacement created a leg length discrepancy. My podiatrist actually enthusiastically recommended a place on the far east side, but since I'm in Beaverton I asked about Vanek's - she said "yes, they do that too", and since I wanted to support a small local business I took the shoe to them. SO. The photos speak for themselves. One week more than they said it would take, and this is the fine, fine fit and finish that shows the pride they take in their work. //SARCASM I can't *believe* the cr*ppy treatment of a new shoe -- they've ruined the look of it entirely and I'll have to spend more money to get it cleaned up. They didn't even bother rubbing off the shavings of their horrible work. I knew they wouldn't dye the white riser (although why not I'm not sure, but seeing the 'finished product' I'm glad they didn't even try!), but they *should* be able to line the elements up evenly without uneven overhangs (see third photo), and without *destroying any of the original finish they didn't need to touch* ( see the rest of the photos)! ( -- maybe it was the sullen young woman who works there who did this? Sounds like I wasn't the first to get the same vibe from her. I get 'resentment' from both her and the shoe. Bad energy.) PLEASE people, read the reviews and take them seriously. I want my money back - I'll be seeing what I can do along those lines. Such kind people and great service. They helped me repair a zipper same-day on a bag that broke while I was traveling.

I dropped off a pair of $1,100 Christian Louboutin booties at the beginning of June to get the rubber on the heel replaced. The lady at the counter inspected them. The shoes were in perfect condition other than a few scrapes on the arch of the bottoms where the clear sole protectant was not applied. I have many pairs that I take in on a regular basis to get cleaned and heel rubber replaced, so I trusted their service. When I picked up my booties, I didn't inspect them because I was in a hurry. A few days later, I went to put on the right boot and the entire heel came off. I went back to the shop and spoke with the lady at the front desk who was not welcoming at all. I explained that the shoe was not broken when I dropped it off. She said they would replace screws in the heel and attempt to fix it. I waited a month with no update, so I called them and spoke to a man who said he was going to call me back when the shoe was ready. No one called me back; instead, I got an email saying the shoes were ready. I ended up paying $50 for what I am convinced was damage caused during the heel rubber replacement, which they of course refuse to take accountability for. I think they assumed that since it was a bootie repair in the middle of summer, I wouldn't notice until fall/winter. The way the front desk girl acted was very odd, no eye contact, did not explain to me what they did to the shoe and rushed me out. It just left a very bad taste in my mouth. Brought my boots in for a sole repair on the heel, not only were they able to accommodate the rush that I put in and had them ready right on time (I ended up needing them for an event) but they also cleaned them up and got the scuffs out of the toe. The work I paid for was just okay (could have been neareand took longer than expected. But the comments about "the nicest people" makes me think they wrote their own reviews. Customer service was totally lacking, not even a greeting when I entered the store and I was the only person there at the time. Same when I returned to pick up the bag I left (and prepaid) for repair. Definitely made me wonder if they didn't want to do business with me because of my race. In speaking with other neighbors and friends about my experience, the usual response was "yeah, that's just the way they are". Well, maybe... but they will never have to be bothered with me again. Outstanding quality. Vaneks exceeded my expectations by a mile. I took a new pair of Maison Margiela Tabi boots in to have the slip-in fasteners removed (stupid design) and brass buttons installed to keep the boots fastened. They said to expect up to 3 weeks, especially during the holidays. Turns out it only took two weeks and the brass buttons are 1000x improvement and they look amazing. I couldn't be any happier. Took my cowboy boots to get resoled here ​In February, was quoted it would take 4 weeks. They ended up taking 8 weeks to get done they never called about the delay I had to go and ask about if they were done. Upon receiving my boots back I noticed that the stitching wasn't done super well as normally cowboy boots get 2 rows of stitching and these only had 1 row done. After about 3 months of wearing them the stitching started to split and the sole started coming off. I took them to see if they would cover the issue as it's only been 3 months when my last set of soles didn't start doing this until after 2 years of wear. They told me because I had used my cowboy boots too much their work wasn't covered and that I'd have to pay to get them fixed. I wouldn't recommend taking cowboy boots here if you actually intend to use them as boots and not a fashion piece. read more

I am sad to write this. I used to recommend Vaneks to my family, friends and neighbors but cannot do so any longer. I brought 3 high quality leather bags for deep cleaning, a $40/bag service, and picked them up today after 3 weeks. Only one was clean. The other two looked as if they hadn't been touched, and were certainly not clean. I asked if there was perhaps a misunderstanding or miscommunication, as the 2 dirty bags were in a separate bag from the clean one. But the counter person claimed she cleaned them herself, without apology. Frankly, she was very rude. I expressed that I was not interested in a confrontation, and left. Their business model is to receive service payment up front, which puts customers out to dry in situations like this. About ten years ago I scored a killer deal on a pair black leather Ralph Lauren booties for $15 on super stupid sale. I nearly fainted when they were rung up - and the clerk was in shock. Over the next like five years I wore those damned things into the ground. They were so comfy and fit to perfection! Amazing! And then sadness as the heels and soles disintegrated. But I saved them in the back of my closet and I went through several years of crazy health stuff. I have to relearn how to walk in 2017 and I was officially out of my wheelchair in August 2017 so I decided to get myself a present. I have heard of Vanek's before as the one place to take your shoes to for repair. I brought them the boots genuinely thinking for like maybe $30 they would just do a so so job since the boots were rough....like really REALLY rough. I wish I thought to take a before picture but I didn't. When I brought them in I was in shock as to the $73 asking price for the repairs - I genuinely would have not questioned it a second had I known what I was getting back. I brought in a pair of royal blue boots for new soles last May or June 2024. After taking them home and looking at them they were polished navy blue, I brought them back and showed the girl at the front and asked what could be done and she suggested putting them out in the sun to fade the polish color. These were not cheap boots and I explained one of my favorites so I left them out most of the summer and as I brought them in to get ready to wear for the fall I noticed that even though you pay up front my new soles had NEVER been put on !!! I as well as my sons have shoes repaired but paying for a service that I never received and then having to expose the leather of my boots to the sun so I can get them back to their original color.Ridiculous !!! read more

The price to glue the front half of the sole of one boot was $25. When i tried it on at home, i took two steps & it came apart the same way i brought it in for repair. It was as if hardly any glue was used to even repair it. After that experience, I don't want it to be re-glued. I just want a refund. read more

Several reviewers have said that "cheerful, friendly service is not their forte". That is certainly true and, in fact, the crabbiness of the folks who work there is legendary in the Beaverton/Aloha area. So, minus one star for that. However, I didn't go there because I am looking for a new BFF. I took my 35+ year old boots in because I needed a skilled, experienced cobbler to repair a split in the leather uppers. I usually go to the cobbler at Jubitz truck stop who is fast, friendly, does good work and is somewhat reasonably priced. However, I thought this job might be out of his usual workflow so.... Vanek has been in Beaverton forever. I figured if anyone could do the needed repairs, he could. And that turned out to be 100% correct. Excellent job of mending the torn leather. Came out better than I expected. These are *WORK* (cowboy) boots that are like an old friend to me. Comfortable, functional, go anywhere, not pretty, actual cowboying boots. Couldn't be happier with the work they did which included cleaning them up, treating the leather and so on. New heels too. All I hoped for was to get another year or two out of these boots. They make you pay for repairs upfront and then don't deliver on time. We had to go back four different times to get the shoes they repaired 3 weeks "after" promised. We've used them in the past with no complaints, but will never use this shoe repair again. I don't care if I have to drive 20 miles to find another shoe repair. I am so angry I could scream. I showed them my wallet from 1957 that was kept in a box, unused when I purchased it. I asked if I could do anything to protect it. I was advised to apply Saphir leather balm, leave it for 30 minutes, and wipe it off with a microfiber cloth. I just followed those instructions and the balm ate through the dye. I am livid. Items like this are incredibly rare, so I can't even ask them to replace it. I wish I had never trusted them with something I valued so dearly. This is strike 3 for me for Vanek's. On my first visit, I brought in 3 pairs of boots. When I picked them up, no work had been done at all on one pair. Had to point it out and come back a week later. Mistakes happen, so I returned for a second time with a purse that needed the strap repaired. When I picked it up, there were 2 indentations in the leather that were made while in their care. Had to leave it for another week so they could repair the damage they had done. I don't understand because I heard by word of mouth that Vanek's is the best and they've been around forever. The people are very nice. However, I've now had 2 experiences where the items I entrusted them with are in worse shape in some areas than they were before I brought them in. I decided on one pair and the father lightened the color a bit to suit me, and stretched the last of one boot so it fit perfectly. Great experience! I have a pair of oxford shoes with chunky soles and heels that I paid $80 dollars for. The rubber sole ripped so I went to Vaneks to get it replaced. I paid $85 + 15% tip = $97.75 to get the whole sole replaced. They email you when they are ready. I didn't get an email so I called around 5pm to see if they were ready. I called and was told "They're on the zero shelf! " I waited to hear more, he then asked my email address and we confirmed it was correct, so I asked again if they were ready, he said again "They're on the zero shelf!!! So I asked again if they were ready and he says "Yes". Ok I say Ill pick them up the next morning. Half an hour later I get the email and the 2nd reminder email. No problem. So when I pick them up I ask "Where is the heel?" They didn't know I wanted a heel, and I said yes I did I wanted it to be as close to the height it was before, as possible. She said " its very difficult to add a heel to that kind of shoe". And she said " miscommunications happen" to which I agreed. If I had known it wouldn't be the same height , or nearly the same I wouldn't have bothered. The man said he could try to add more of a heel but it would start at another $20. I already paid $97 to get a thin "unisole " glued on. And $12 was a tip, I just didn't want to pay anymore. I also feared something else I didn't specify would somehow get changed. I don't know whose fault it is. The conversation went in a circle 2 more times, I gave up and left. So... I wouldn't recommend Vanek's. read more

I went to the have a 80 year old military leather military patch sewed onto a brand new messenger bag. The stitching was not even remotely straight. Unfortunately it can not be undone as the leather patch has uneven stitch holes. In addition to that my brand new messenger bag also has stitch holes where the patch is.
