This place can be hit or miss depending on who's running the show at the time. I've come here with huge groups and had alright service, but I've shown up with just 4 people in my group and had the worst service. The food isn't anything amazing. It's your standard hibachi grill foods. If you aren't a fan of fish, I hope no one orders fish at your table because whatever you ordered will also taste like fish since everything is cooked on one grill. Visited this Japanese hibachi steak house for a birthday. The server was wonderful, very cheerful, polite and attentive. Which was awesome since the place was full and she had multiple tables to attend. The cook was entertaining but quiet, get in and get out sort of situation. The food was great. Everything came out well cooked and hot! I got the shrimp and scallop hibachi dinner and a Dr.Pepper. We received extra of the yummy sauce which is my favorite and the birthday girl got a complimentary piece of cake! The show is always worth the price of admission lol but oh my goodness...I've had some great hibachi in my life but something is definitely different and amazing about Shogun. Maybe it's the ambiance, maybe it's the fact that I always come in starving lol but either way, prepare to spend a little more than you think! My friend was celebrating her birthday and this is unacceptable. As a business owner you should value good service. The experience should be positive and the fact that the place was hot and everyone was overheated due to poor air conditioning is absolutely ridiculous. Two tables walked in after us received their drinks and had their food cooked before we did. This place is sooo delicious! I love coming here for bday dinners or group dinners, hibachi is always a good time. I decided to go for a nice solo date because I had a big craving for sushi and I decided to treat myself. So first of all this place is ALWAYS packed! I sat at the bar so I wouldn't have to wait for a seat. The bar was close to the door so I was freezing cold because people were constantly in and out, I had to eat with my coat on because it was so cold. So definitely don't recommend eating at the bar in the winter time. The food was really good. For my cocktail I ordered a raspberry martini. I did not like it, it tasted like cough medicine. For my sushi I ordered the dragon roll, it was really good made to perfection and I also ordered a side of fried rice. They give you alot! Very fulfilling. Well, it wasn't the worst hibachi meal I've had, but it wasn't as good as many Japanese steakhouses I've been to. The miso soup was essentially broth with no flavor. Places usually use miso to give more depth of flavor and a little mushroom or scallion. This was not much better than box broth. The fried rice was really bland. I got calamari which was so overcooked it was like chewing a dog rawhide. I got the combo with Sukiyaki Steak. Sukiyaki is usually a marinated steak slices. Went to ShoGun in Fairview Heights IL for dinner with my work peeps/dream team. The cook was very entertaining and food plentiful. As we were sitting there waiting on our checks to be completed, the grill cleaner started cleaning before we left the table. Smoke and fumes getting in our face. When attempting to stop him, he continued( did not understand). It was not busy because there were 3 grill tables not being occupied. And the server wore a mask, so we couldn't hear / understand him, which was frustrating for all involved. And the sushi really wasn't up to their normal standards. Just ok. Not that what i got was bad,it was very flavorful, i just wasnt a fan of the shredded veggies it was mixed with, wouldve just liked some, meat by itself. My mom got the filet mignon, and her meat was perfect, tender, & juicy. I think i will order that next time! I also got the Spicy Chicken, it was pretty good. Out of the vegtable mix, i really enjoyed the zucchini, and broccoli. My fried rice was okay, i didnt enjoy the the tiny pieces of onion that was mixed through, & i kinda had to pick through it so I'm sure you could imagine trying to pick out finely chopped onions throughout rice is like a needle in a haystack type of job. Which is why I deducted one star so maybe next time I will ask the waitress if it's possible to get my rice without the onions and then I think I would enjoy it more. Brought wife and kids here for one of the kids' birthday and they told us that the servers were ready to go home, so they might be not be able to do a birthday celebration. They forgot my spring rolls that I ordered. And last but not least, I witnessed a food safety violation happen right in front of me. They put chicken, shrimp, fish and steak all on the same tray. They had to separate them to put them on the grill, which they did by touching the chicken with the spatula before all the other meat. Food is great, if you only compare it to the American version of japanese food. The same thing as Americans thinking Panda Express is what chinese food's supposed to taste like. Husband & I have gone to Shogun 3 times and all 3 times the service was horrid. First time -- we came in, the host didn't even acknowledge us nor did she ask if we wanted hibachi or dine in. Second time -- food came after 45 mins of waiting and when it did come, the server took another 10 mins to give us utensils because she had forgotten it. Third and last time -- food took literally 1 hour and 10 mins to be prepared when all we ordered was sashimis aka RAW FISH. Didn't even need to be cooked or torched etc, just needed to be sliced. My suggestion is hire new hosts and more sushi chefs. read more

Between myself, my husband, and a couple friends we decided our experience was not the best. I know my friend said she would give them one more chance sometime in the future. I have been to one other shogun and would go back if it was the only hibachi in the area. The shogun experience seems to lake flavor. I ordered the filet and shrimp. Not only did the cook way overcook my medium rare steak to almost Well done it did have good flavor and was tender just not cooked the way i wanted. My shrimp was disgusting, it tasted like your lowest end bottom feeding shrimp with that dirty taste. I love shrimp so this was very disappointing to me. Even the shirley temple i ordered tasted flat and not so shirley templish. I was surprised to see that we did not get the noodles as we did at the other shogun. The food was skimpy and i actually finished everything but the shrimp which i can never do. This is by far the first time i have seen a hibachi chef literally throw broccoli for you to catch, isn't it usually shrimp? Broccoli is hard to catch in your mouth, it was hysterical though watching this feat. I just would never come back to this particular location. The food was not great especially for $30.00 pp. I understand your paying for the experience but the quality of food should accompany that price. I will be trying other hibachi's in the area. I mean, I could have even upped the rating to four stars if it weren't for the waiting...and waiting. It's a traditional Japanese Steakhouse...if you've been to one, you've been to all of them. Went there Saturday night and the waitresses dropped off my husband's food before mine which is always annoying. Then when she brought my food it was the wrong meal. I waved her back over and informed her it was the wrong meal, I had touched it but not ate any of it and she apologized for the mistake. She then took the plate from my table after it had been sitting in front on me unmasked and handled by me and brought it to another table. I informed the other table what she had done and that I work in the medical field with covid positive patients all day. I was in shock that they would just bring food from one table to another and not remake it especially in the times we live in with covid.
