Service was a little backed up around dinner but we got our food pretty quickly. Plenty of seating inside the restaurant and some seating outside for warmer days. I don't dine out as often as I used to, and sometimes it's necessary to get a cheeseburger. Of course I would never attempt to make a burrito in my own home. I wouldn't have visited Seoul Taco today, except that another restaurant I intended to visit, nearby, was closed. I'd read on the app that it's sometimes randomly not open during posted business hours, and wouldn't you know, that turned out to be the case today. Did the owner decide he'd rather go fishing? Is he in jail for a crime that would be considered reprehensible even by Grove standards? I'm not into spreading rumors. Ask someone at Pie Guy. Oh wait, you can't. This location of the local Korean fusion chain appeared to me like a beacon at the east end of the eclectic business district. It's in a weirdly nice building that may have been purposely designed to attract gainfully employed young people. The entire block, consisting of at least two apartment buildings and multiple storefronts, has the design language of a circa '08 Chipotle. If you wanted to, you could actually live in an apartment above Seoul Taco. Imagine how convenient that would be. I knew I should have tried harder in college. The burrito here is an especially generous serving, the fact that it consists primarily of rice notwithstanding, but the tacos might be the thing to get. It's a perfectly fine serving size, and the emphasis is on the meat, as it should be. Right, Puff Daddy? The Seoul Tacos come with your choice of meat, spring mix that's probably from a bag, some sort of sriracha-mayo mix and that might be it. I'm not familiar with the Street Tacos, and in fact I wasn't aware that they existed until just now. They might have more of an attitude. I toyed with the idea of getting a quesadilla, which is never bad, even if you get it from Taco Bell. Instead, I went with the Nachos, for a little textural contrast. I got one taco in addition to the nachos, because I hadn't had one in literally decades, and I figured it might be useful as a point of comparison if I visit any other restaurants that serve tacos. The nachos were surprisingly beef-forward. Rarely are you presented with an entree that has more beef in it than you expected. I felt like I was in a Wendy's circa 1983. For anything with beef in it, you pay a surcharge that, depending on the item, is almost enough to purchase an entire meal elsewhere, so I guess that's the least they can do. Meanwhile, there's not much cheese. Should it not be the opposite? By definition, nachos are chips and cheese. You don't even necessarily need the meat. Was the person who made this on drugs? There's a dispensary nearby. You're bombarded by the smell, if you park at that end of the street. For the taco, I went with the spicy pork, which might be the thing to get. The beef is great (ahem), and I suspect that the surcharge has as much to do with the taste as the food cost (they could just give you less of it, or jack up the price of everything else), but the pork is arguably just as good (with all due respect to the Honorable Minister), and it has the rare distinction of having a spice level appropriate for an adult of normal intelligence. You can actually taste it. If I were to return, I'd probably get the Seoul Tacos with the pork, even if money were no object. Like, if I won the lottery. I was delighted to see that this place has cookies, and of course I felt obligated to try one, as part of a balanced diet. They don't seem to be freshly baked, and they cost too much, but they're great. If I'm not mistaken, one of them was a matcha chocolate chip. Clearly, it was designed to appeal to the kind of person who would pay a premium to live upstairs. I went with some sort of salted caramel--like a chocolate chip cookie, but with caramel instead of chocolate. It was ginormous, tasty and probably very unhealthy. It had a texture not unlike those soft batch cookies they had to pull from the market because the trans fats would cause your heart to explode. If I ever die, it's their fault.

I rarely, if ever, do reviews for food that I've had delivered. That said, the tacos that I got from Seoul Taco this evening were TOO GOOD not to recommend. I was ravenous, and after taking my first bite, I ate them so dang fast that I completely neglected to take a picture. I got three Seoul tacos (one beef, one chicken, one pork), with an extra side of Seoul sauce (in blind anticipation of needing more sauce). Every flavor was phenomenal--full of flavor and very generous portion in each taco. I can't even pick a favorite--they were ALL that GOOD! The Seoul sauce is delicious too, and while they put plenty on the taco to begin with, I happily drowned them in more. Definitely don't skip the tacos! I did also try the kimchi fried rice, which was just okay. Not bad, but maybe not for me personally. I can't knock it though. I also got a miso caramel cookie which was the perfect sweet ending to my meal, albeit not very strong on the miso. I can't WAIT to try more from this place and go visit in person.

This place did have fresh food, I'll give it that. But, it definitely lacked in aspects that didn't make it amazing or something I'd really suggest unless someone I knew was vegetarian. We were served quickly but definitely felt like the staff had a very "meh" attitude. It's a very specific type of place, mismatched furniture, kind of eclectic. It gives very "lived in vibes". The food itself was okay. The steak dumpling were probably my favorite but I wish there was more options for dipping sauce rather than just chili crisp oil. I ordered the big Thai wrap, and while it was good, I had to ask for extra sauce because the lettuce was just overwhelming, like there was just a giant wad of it thrown in there. The wrap itself is a rice paper so you really can't put it down when you eat it or it just falls apart. But, overall, with extra sauce, rearranging things a bit everything was generally good. Would I go out of my way to go back? Probably not but it's definitely a great place to try for yourself.

I gave this a four out of five due to the experience. I am not much of a drinker so I rarely go to bars. Having to walk through the bar, wait for the curtain on the door to open, order at the door and stand around waiting made for an awkward ambiance. Nothing against the bar. There isn't much seating, a couple high tops, a booth and then the bar area. I wished we were drinkers so we could have sat and had a drink while we waited. I'd never heard of it, and I may have never visited, if it weren't for the fact that I was meeting a group here. I'm against both cultural appropriation and food that doesn't have any meat in it. There are no vegan Mexican restaurants in Mexico, right? Do they refer to regular Mexican restaurants as Mexican restaurants, or just restaurants? I've often wondered the same thing about Chinese restaurants in China. Certainly, they don't call them what we call them here. I don't even think they do that elsewhere in the US. Terror Tacos has tables named after horror films and a QR code-based ordering system. I was lucky that my group selected a table named after the Lost Boys, a staple of my childhood. Death by stereo! I've seen old people get up and leave restaurants because they preferred not to order via QR code, or they couldn't figure it out. It's a testament to Terror Tacos uncompromising nature that they employ such a system. I mean, if you couldn't already tell that from the decor. I briefly considered seeing if they had any real meat in the back they could put in my tacos, then decided I'd better not. Old people might consider dining elsewhere anyway, for the protein. Apparently, there's a pizza place across the street that also doesn't serve meat. On my run, in the neighboring streets, I saw several people kinda stooped over. Was it the vegan food, or the drugs, or a little bit of both? I kid Terror Tacos, but this was honestly great. In a few cases, I could hardly tell I was eating fake meat. Some of the meat substitutes were obviously not real, but still not half bad for what they were. If they used these same recipes with actual meat, they'd have a line down the block and around the corner, as if they were selling especially potent heroin. You can get tacos in a flight, like at a winery, and if you order at least five of them each one is discounted. Five is probably more than most people need, but not anything I couldn't handle. When I mentioned that I ordered five tacos, members of my group were shocked and concerned. It's that kind of group. They use a lot of go containers, which I'd oppose philosophically even if I needed them. An obvious standout was the Basic Witch, basically their version of one of the regular crunchy tacos at Taco Bell. It's surprisingly similar, but more hefty. It'll run you, but it's the cheapest of the tacos on offer here, and if you get five of them, they knock a couple of dollars off. If I return, which of course would only be because I was meeting someone, I might do just that. The other ones were pretty good too. I appreciated some of the other fake-meat options because they were spicier, but I didn't care for the texture as much on the ones that were meant to resemble whole cuts of meat, like a steak. The guy who brought them out pointed to each one and said what they were, but I immediately forgot. I know I had the Citrus Mistress, the Cowboy from Hell and a Quesabirria. Anyway, individual names are less important when it's all just ground up agricultural byproduct, soy and various other things RFK Jr almost certainly wouldn't approve of. The key is that they've somehow gotten it all to taste not half bad. They may have made a deal with the devil.

We went during the day so it wasn't busy at all! Plenty of open seating options and and each table is themed! We stayed at the Beetlejuice table. My quesabirria taco was okay, I wasn't crazy about the "meat". It was a bit sweet for me. I loved the salsa!!! Chips were perfectly crispy, too. The horchata was pretty good, too. I'd come again if I was feeling spooky.
