I was a big fan of the old Shogun location. My friends and I went for every milestone we celebrated. We recently started returning to Shogun again. The hibachi experience is still enjoyable. I went to Shogun Bistro Friday with 21 friends. The service was atrocious. We waited 45 minutes just to be acknowledged. Another 20 minutes for our drinks. In protest we all drank water. I would have left but I had become light headed from heat and hunger. When one woman tried to get a server's attention, the server "showed her the hand." How rude! When another woman reminded the server that she wanted lemon, the server snapped at her. I received my meal when the rest of the party started packing up their leftovers. But because we were a large party, the server got an 18% tip. Before you defend that shitty service or play devil's advocate, know that we did call a day ahead. Tge manager blamed the bad service on having only two servers . At noon on a Friday. More to the point, he did not help her serve us. Instead he stood by the door, not hosting and getting tables for people . Just standing there and greeting people . I will NEVER eat there again. I'd rather go hungry. Oh wait, i did go hungry for two damned hours! I strongly advise not eating at Shogun Bistro on Hwy. 54 in Owensboro, KY. read more

Ordered a Teriyaki Chicken Bento Box. Got it for lunch so this is a take out review. They weren't terribly busy when I ordered close to opening time. But the restaurant looked very clean and had a good vibe albeit a bit on the darker side. The staff when I went to pick it up were very friendly! From what seemed to be the host in the front to the chefs who packed my food everyone spoke and said hello and enjoy. The food was delicious! Everything had a great flavor that was enhanced by the sauces provided. My bento box came with fried rice, spring rolls, house salad, and roasted veggies. Also really great portion sizes for the price. I was able to get two lunches from what I had. Definitely will visit again! read more

Hibachi was underwhelming given the price. Veggies were burnt on one side raw on the other, shrimp and chicken were good but they dropped chicken in my drink and never bothered to get me a new one until flagged somone down. And automatic maditory 18% gratuity is absolutly diabolical when you then promted to tip an additional 15 - 30% when you pay to leave. Pork belly was a huge disappointment! Not the tender, juicy-looking pork slices as in their photo, but instead, dry, over-cooked slices that just looked like thick-sliced bacon with shoe-leather consistency. The worst hibachi I have eaten, ever. The Soup was a hot water broth with no flavor. The Salad was decent quality, but the dressing was made of pure mayonnaise with no ginger or seasonings. The stir-fried rice was undercooked and hard with little to no seasoning at all. The vegetables were frozen and cooked up soft/mushy. The chicken, although cooked well, lacked flavor, and had to be completely doused in teriyaki sauce to give if flavor. Our family favorite of perfect yum yum sauce has downgraded to cheap mayo with a touch of spice. Despicable. Overall: terrible food. Ambience was rushed and there was no entertainment or interaction (for children) at the grill, like a normal hibachi. When this Shogun opened years ago it was our very favorite place to dine when we had guests or special days. We will not be going back, ever. read more

Had a birthday dinner with my family here on a Thursday. What made the experience truly special was our chef, Jonathon! When he greeted the table and started cooking, it was obvious he enjoys what he's doing. While eating with him, we found out he's been with this restaurant for 11 years! And it shows! I can't tell you enough how good the food he prepared was. It's different when someone with a passion for food serves you. Recommending this hibachi grill solely because of him. The food was very good, portions were good for the price. I did not enjoy sitting at the table with others and having my food cooked in front of me. I know that's part of the experience but it wasn't for me. Nothing wrong with it and the cook was nice, I just don't want to be that close with others. This was more for my wife. Every time I come here I am so impressed. I never get tired of the hibachi grill and watching them do cool tricks while making your food in front of you. The chefs are always interacting with you and will sometimes let you get the chance to catch something in your mouth. The food is amazing and the yum yum sauce is a must! The food was good but not worth the price. On top of the service was awfully. We came in and ordered the lunch bento box. Specifally asking our server if we could get the lunch portion because it was 1:45. When ordering she told us we could get both sushi and fried rice, and then when we were brought our meal it only came with the sushi which we didn't really want (the manager told us that it didn't come with both like we thought and asked our server) the manager got irritated with us and made it seem like it was our fault but our server told us it came with both so we believed her. Then at the end the manager told us that we were charged for dinner price because they don't do lunch portIons on Saturdays. Normally not one to complain, but the manager was very rude on top of the fact that the server had multiple mess ups. This place used to be one of our favorites. It has significantly gone down hill. We tried calling to make reservations about 10 times but it went straight to voice-mail. So we arrived and they told us it would be 30 min wait because we didn't have a reservation. My husband said he had been trying to call and the manager on duty admitted he hadn't been answering the phone because he was so busy. There was only one other party waiting and it wasn't busy at all. If he ignored our 10 phone calls, how many others did he ignore? I hope the owner realizes how much money they are losing with this extremely poor manager who doesn't want customers! We promptly left. I dont mind waiting 30 minutes in a restaurant but we weren't about to beg an ungrateful restaurant to take our 100 dollars for our family's meal. This place sucks at customer service!!!! read more

Food seemed to be sitting in the kitchen for a long time, really wasn't just tasted like it. Chicken was dry, rice not hot, noodles were just ok. For what you pay for it was very lacking in quality. My grandmother and I came for dinner last night. The parking lot was packed and there was a bunch of people waiting when we walked in. We quickly realized everyone was waiting for the hibachi grill because we were seated right away and noticed plenty of open tables. I took a lap around the restaurant and noticed how HUGE this place is. I really like the space and it's nice and clean. Our service was a little...off though. One of the menu's we were given had no menu inside of the cover, as if it had fallen out. So we shared a menu - passing it back and fourth. I decided to have sushi so I ordered the Seafood Roll and an appetizer of Potstickers. The Seafood Roll was yummy but the fried potstickers (which I thought would be pan fried) were not. They were hard and a little burned..plus you only get 5 small ones so a bit overpriced. My grandmother was disappointed in her salmon salad and onion soup as the menu stated it was romaine lettuce and the entire thing was iceberg lettuce with minimal veggies. She said her salmon did not taste grilled and the soup lacked flavor. Our food came was fast and the overall experience was not bad. I'd come back and try something off the hibachi menu. read more

We had the nicest person as our server, her name was Leandra. They had great service and staff. Food was delicious.

First visit to this restaurant that opened nearby about a year ago 4 a birthday lunch. The parking lot is always full and I have heard good things about it but have to say we were a little disappointed. The menu looks fabulous and I guess some things are probably pretty good if you are careful about what you order. The sushi was decent but the Hibachi Grill plate that I got was totally bad. Salads were iceberg whitish lettuce chunks, dressing tasty. I sent the tuna steak back because it came out well done instead of rare and the second try was only a little better. Quite frankly it was more like a filet than a steak so skinny that you couldn't really get it rare. The stir-fried vegetables tasted very greasy and overcooked and we're only about 30% vegetables and 70% home fries mixed in with them. I have never heard of such a thing. The portion of fried rice was about four times larger than most Asian restaurants I have been to and was almost the size of a soup bowl. So I ate the the meat and minimal vegetables and what was left was a plated loaded with mountains of greasy carbs. Some of the appetizers are probably safe but I guess just be careful. The ambiance was just so so and I guess our next try maybe carry out of half-price special on sale days as possible safer choices. read more
