Local wine shop that was opened during black friday. They have a nice selection on wine, though a bit more expected than what I normally pay for. They have a ton of wine from napa valley. I spent 8 years in the bay area and recognized a lot of the wines they had, especially the value items. I was having a small dinner party at my place, so wanted to load up on several wines. The people here were friendly and helped me even though I didn't ask for it. They came and gave me a personal recommendation, and one that was of good value. I haven't tried it yet, but could tell it's a good bottle of wine, even though the label doesn't look like it. The store front is blocked by construction at the moment, so it will be a bit hard to find the exact place if you're not looking carefully for it. They have a good selection of liquor as well. I've only come here on occasions where it's kind of an emergency (because I like to take care of emergencies with wine, lol) and I need to pick something up in this neighborhood. This place isn't absolutely awful - I'd rate it 3.5 stars if I could. It's just that I've been to so many other wine/liquor stores in which people have been so much more knowledgeable, nicer and the selection has been so much better that's it's tough to give this place more than 1 thumb slightly up. Most wines here are priced around $15 and up with a few of the not so good ones sprinkled around $12-13. I've gotten some fantastic wines for like $9-10 and I know the difference when someone tries to convince me that some random $16 bottle is great - price point should not be the sole indicator of a wine (or wine shop's) quality since there's other things like the year, type of grape, where it's from, etc. My 3 star rating comes from the look I was given when I asked for my favorite French red. Yes I'm pronouncing it right. No, I even found it on the shelf (over priced for being 2011) and yes, you've clearly never heard of it nor did you know your shop *does* carry it. FAIL. Holy moly does this place like dicey as heck from the outside. But when Yelp tells you this is a decent spot to grab a bottle or two near your hotel room, you listen. After our experience almost getting charged like $40 for a bottle of Andre the night before, we were on the hunt for a reasonably priced bottle of bubbly for our evening in our hotel room in NYC. Yelp was like, "I know just the place!" And I was like... "Are you super sure, Yelp? Because I'm not trying to get murdered tonight." But, alas, Yelp knows best. While the storefront looks like a nightmare, inside is stacked with bottles of wine and booze in an organized fashion. Prices ranged from high to low, which was a great surprise. I wouldn't say this place was sparkling clean--but it wasn't a hot, dirty mess, either. It's not a posh liquor store that has every option, but the selection is still quite nice. I would say the service was a little lacking compared to what other reviewers experienced. I wasn't greeted. No one approached me about being helped or if I had questions. It didn't really seem like that kind of place. Once we found what we were looking for on our own, we were checked out pretty quickly without much chat or eye contact. And honestly, that was just fine with me. At the end of the day, they didn't price guage me and I would give them repeat business just based on that fact alone. This place over charges, and why.....because their store depends on it. Small shop with really lacking and prejudice service. besides that, there is no reason a bottle of 375ml Eagle Rare 10 year, should cost $35 dollars. That is almost double the price of what it costs, if it were in any other reasonably priced liquor store. Run from this place. Reminded me of a Brooklyn hood spot and made me feel safe with the store and their prices. We were greeted when we first came in, everything was clearly labelled and reasonably priced. The cashier was real attentive and courteous even though we didnt know right away what we wanted to buy. We weren't rushed or persuaded to buy anything we didn't want. Ummm, what?? Went on my lunch break here to get a bottle of wine as a going away gift for a co-worker. I ended up waiting 25 minutes outside since the store clerk decided to disappear in the middle of the day, leaving a note in the window "be back in 10 mins". Won't go again. EVER. Oh and btw, store owner, your guy lost you 5 customers in that 25 minutes I was waiting. I woulda been right behind them if the bottle I was shopping for was for me. This is a great little local wine and booze place. Mostly good for wine. It wasn't my first choice of wine store, but is way closer to my apartment than Vintner Wine Market. The staff is knowledgeable and pleasant. My favorite part about this store is that every day they have deals near the register of different kinds of wine - so i usually go in and grab just what they have there to try different kinds for a lower price. This is your typical neighborhood liqueur store. They have a good variety of wines and hard alcohol as well as party supplies. My only gripe is that most of the bottles in the fridge do not have price stickers on them making it very difficult to decide which one to get, especially when your in a hurry. Most of the staff though is always more than happy to help, suggest and answer questions. read more

This place is awful. It is worth walking a few extra blocks to find another wine/liquor store in the area. The people at the register are extremely rude! They would much rather provide service to the homeless people counting out $3 in change to buy a small bottle of liquor than to check out a regular customer that was ahead of said homeless person in line. I am not sure why they feel so entitled to be rude and disrespectful -- business must be booming (and perhaps the guy that works the register on Sundays is just racist). I will never go back here. I also felt unsafe walking into this store. Moreover, they overcharge (same bottle will cost you less three block down the street). Stay FAR away!! read more

I get good servie here. The prices are what you would expect for the location. Selection is good for wine, bad for liquor and chamange. I did not see any beer. The help knows what is a good deal, so make sure you ask. Still looking for an economical alternative. read more

All good here, but just he prepared to ignore the idiots on the street at night... I nearly had to kick some moron in the neck - down a flight of stairs because I felt he needed to catch a subway super fast... Totally unrelated to the business I'm reviewing - sort of - they should try to watch over their customers at the threshold a bit better... I almost had to use my purchases as legit weapons from the get go... I wish I was joking!!! Great store tho... Good people here - I definitely recommend this store....but beware of the trolls lurking around after dark and def near closing time & be ready to kick azz... Its a liquor store. Their inventory was smaller than a chain store and it has NYC prices but it was a short walk from the hotel so I cant complain. Got what I needed and the staff pointed me in the right direction when asked. This place helped me get through staying a week at the Manhattan at Times Square. read more

Liquor store in the city with a different vibe. This spot was not the usual posh liquor store with the 100 different imported wine varieties. I felt more comfortable like I was in a Brooklyn liquor store. Still a large variety of wine but also have a large variety of spirits. There was a fridge near the door with chilled wine. They also had those little bottles you smuggle into the club for less than $2. And very good prices on all their products. Good location near the theater district. read more

Mostly wine, light on the spirits selection. Prices are nothing special. It's crazy cramped in there.

The only thing that I like about this place is that they do delivery for free with a minimum of $25-$30 until 11pm. I've called them and tried their recommendations a couple of times - 50% was good, 50% was disappointing. Don't think they have a great selection of wine lists, but if you know your favorite wineries and don't feel walking over the 8th ave in the late evening, just call them for the delivery service.
