This place is very reasonable price around this area, however it's close to Times Square.. If Someone complain about the price, they probably tourist or someone visiting in New York who doesn't know city price ..sorry I live and work around this area more than decade and I would say this place is not cheap, but considered reasonable and proper price. Of course, some place in otter area, such as east village, lES, sell cheapER liquor though. IF you stay around midtown or Times Square area, this place is useful. read more

I've been shopping there since the '80s. Great shop. However, you can't order online. Since I can't make it to the store I rely on ordering online and since they don't offer that I have had to take my business elsewhere. It's the only wine shop that I can think of that doesn't offer online shopping. Sad, since they have a great selection and great prices. I wish I could still purchase from them. read more

What a great store. Walked in and like usual I always need suggestions and they read my mind. Someone came right over and asked me how they could help. I asked for a Pinot Grigio that I was familiar with and they suggested another which was less money and was an excellent choice. Smooth tasting with no after bite. Then they asked if I was drinking it now and when I said yes, they went and got me culled bottles. Excellent customer service! I looked this place up on yelp, knowing i had to find a bottle of whiskey for a friend's birthday and didn't want to pay crazy high manhattan prices for it. When i walked in, the man behind the counter let me browse without bothering me. BUt after i stared at the bottles of whiskey with i apparently know nothing outside of single malt whiskies/scotches, so the guy kindly asked if i needed help. being a doll he walked over and asked key questions to help me make a decision and within a minute or two, i had the bottle and was paying. he chose copper head, a rye whiskey made in VA that looked like a lovingly crafted bottle. i gave the bottle to my friend and he was pretty excited to try it (too bad we're at work). thanks for the help! read more

Wall-to-wall wine and liquor ensure you will never go home empty-handed--and you will impress your friends with amazing new alcohol. I was on a wine mission and delighted to find that I could get everything on my list: 1) Portuguese Vinho Verde 2) South African Pinotage 3) Italian Lambrusco I'm difficult, so these three rather uncommon varietals are my current (perpetual?) obsession. It's not unusual for me to go into a wine boutique and be told they don't carry even one decent bottle of any type. The fact that I could tick all three off at Manhattan Plaza Winery is a testament to their selection. I've lived in the neighborhood for 5 years and I always buy my wine here. The employees are always knowledgeable and friendly, the selection is solid and the store is organized and clean. I was unfortunately being racially harrased by a homeless man but the employees (shout out to Rafael) immediately stood up for me and kicked him out of the store. WOULD NOT TAKE BACK CORKED WINE!!! I've been a loyal customer to this store since 2012. Today I purchased Frog's Leap Sauvignon Blanc from this store as one of the staffs recommended it. So I chose this instead of my go-to Sancerre. The moment I opened it, I smelled a PUNGENT MOLD or WET NEWSPAPER smell. It tasted MOLDY, RANCID and ASTRINGENT. I requested for a replacement bottle. I even mentioned I've never once asked this in the past 7 years (I'm a weekly customer). I was surprised that the staff's immediate response was that he tasted this wine "2 MONTHS AGO" and because it's a great wine, my bottle could not be bad. Then he said I'm thinking this way because I "DON'T DRINK ENOUGH" Californian Sauvignon Blancs as they are completely different from Sancerres which I usually buy from their store. I have plenty of culinary education and wine pairing experience. I also worked at a family wine store for a year. I am confident I know the simple difference between a corked wine vs a normal wine. Despite the fact that I suggested he taste a little as he will instantly know this is corked wine, he did not taste it and only based his assumption on one-time smell and his taste from 2 months ago. Knowing this conversation would not go anywhere, I brought this wine to another liquor store nearby - 3 staffs from the store, 2 sales persons who were present at the store, all agreed that this was CORKED WINE!!!!! Wine is similar to living organisms and they are different by each bottle. I'm shocked the staff assumed my bottle had to be good because he tasted a bottle "2 months ago". More importantly, if a long-standing customer brings up an issue for the first time in 7 years, perhaps trying to be more understanding would have helped, rather than denying everything the customer says. Ultimately, this would cost nothing to this store, as they can return it to the distributor (Empire). Extremely unhappy with the experience - they are nice when you purchase from them, but once you try to request for a refund, THEY WILL SHOW THEIR TRUE COLOR. read more

This place has great customer service! Was in the city for work and headed to a party. Grabbed some Dom and Veuve...and boom! Card denied. My banking institution who told me I'll never have to worry about issues with my card outside of Hawai'i lied! The card thought it was identity theft. Manhattan Plaza Winery is a nice little alcohol shop with a good selection of wine. The prices are also pretty reasonable for this neighborhood. I had no trouble finding my favorite South American wines here. They have a decent selection of French wines as well (usually lower end), although there are simply too many French wines and it'd be hard to find the particular one you're looking for. The staff there seemed nice enough. It wasn't great service, but wasn't bad either. Definitely my go-to wine spot in the area. read more

This place has a pretty great selection for it's location and being kind of small. You can find just about anything. They are always really helpful if you need help finding something or need a suggestion. Apparently they deliver, but I've yet to try out the service as I live embarrassingly close. My least favorite thing is that if more than six people are in the store, it can be a little bit cramped. Also, if you need to find the fun flavored vodkas, they are on the left when you walk in. The boxed wine selection is not great (one, maybe two varieties per red/white). And don't be tempted into buying the alcoholic whipped cream. Go for whipped cream vodka instead. read more

We've waited at the bus stop in front of this store many times after seeing plays in that neighborhood, but last night it was freezing and another bus wasn't due for awhile. When we saw the sign for a wine tasting, we couldn't resist. Although the store is rather small, they have a good selection and the prices of wine we looked at were quite reasonable. Conveniently located right outside the port authority bus terminal, this little shop is always an easy stop on my way to a friend's dinner party...even if that friend lives in Sheepshead Bay. Decent prices, decent selection, they have a lot of chilled stuff, and the bin ends are good for finding good deals. It is pretty small though, so it gets packed when there are like 4 people inside. read more

I've purchased here 30 times. We're regulars. We've always been happy, however, the black guy that tries to work the floor. Who I thought was just a transient following me in is actually an employee. He elected to follow me and to comment on my bf's interest in taking his time to select a bottle of wine from the shelves. This is how it went. I have more knowledge than my bf because I studied w/ the sommelier from chanterelle when I worked in restaurants, the bf is a novice. So he's still finding his way. That being said the guy on the floor mistook my stance for waiting as his opportunity to begrudge us, i was standing by allowing my bf to choose what he thinks he would like and the guy working the floor had the audacity to approach me and to belittle him. Telling me, it's evident he has no idea about wine based on him not knowing whats on our shleves. I'm sorry, but you cant be a bigger DICK than believing that someone other than the buyer for the store is GOING to know what's on YOUR shelves and I have to commend my bf after telling him for not going back to the store an reeming him out it was without a doubt the most arrogant display of pompousness and a self serving diatrib that i've seen in a wine store in NYC. They had Taittinger champagne for a reasonable price. The box was a little dusty so the cashier wiped it down for me. When I said it was a gift he wrapped it for me too, all without asking. Been going there for years but have decided to take our business elsewhere. The manager named Pedro I think is a nasty selfish jerk who refuses to put the air conditioning on in the burning heat. We feel sorry for the poor guys who work so hard in there sweating and dripping in the sweltering store. Complaints have been made but he refuses to give them and the customers any relief. So after 20 years, bye bye...and with the outrageous prices of alcohol these days, they can most certainly afford some air for the workers and patrons. Criminal! read more

Celebrating our 11th wedding anniversary in NYC on 11.11.11, we stayed at the Westin Times Square, were looking for a convenient place to get champagne and searched online, found this place and were pleasantly surprised at how convenient it was to walk to, selection of all liquors and wines was really good and prices were not outrageous.
