This place is pretty good overall. Had a lamb doner sandwich which had a spicy flavor. It really isn't a gyro flavor but really close to it. The dolma was served cold and I wish it had some goat cheese with it, but it didn't come with any. The chicken sharwarma had a pretty good taste to it, the employee there said it was going to be spicy, but I didn't taste it. The lamb doner was a bit spicier than that chicken. When you order a sandwich, you get a choice of a side, but the sides are limited. Also, do not plan to sit in the restaurant to eat. I have only ate here once. It is an excellent take out/pickup & go type setup. There is no space to eat inside (there is a small counter space, maybe 5 feet, if you wish eat there). They are open at 7:30am and do server variety of breakfast burritos. I had heard a lot about his food while he ran a food cart downtown but was not able to make it there. Had I made the effort to go downtown, park, pay for parking just to try the food I would have been disappointed. The food was good but nothing fantastic. I had a Lam Doner Sandwich for $8.95, it came with tomatoes, onions, pickled cabbage, hot sauce and a side (choice of side: salad, falafel or dolma). The sandwich meat looks like a Gyro but the flavor is totally different, thus they call it Doner. I was told the Doner is by far more common in some parts of Europe than the Gyro. Gyro being Greek and Doner being Turkish. The owner was very friendly and pleasant, took the time to explain what's what. If I happen to be in the neighborhood I will give them another shot. read more

Have always been a fan of the location downtown and when I found out they were opening a location in the tech center I was very excited now that I work down here. I stopped by today to get my favorite, the lamb doner sandwich. It's perfectly flavored lamb fully loaded and served in a pita and I got falafel for my side. Excellent Persian food and wonderful service! Had the Soltani, chicken kabob, Greek salad, and falafel. Everything was very fresh and served with fantastic presentation. My "sweet tea" was even of the Persian spice tea variety and was a delightful surprise! The owners are the cooks and are from Iran so it doesn't get any more authentic and than Shondiz. As an Iranian woman, I can confidently say this is the best persian restaurant I have been to outside of Iran. Everything from their perfectly cooked rice to their immaculate khoreshts is absolutely incredible super authentic. It literally tasted like a persian mother's homemade cooking (which I later found out it actually was from her coming out to say hello.) They were also extremely hospitable to the point that I walked home with an extra portion of fesenjoon on the house...I am absolutely shocked at how amazing this little place was. read more

I went to Shondiz for the first time last night for a take out order. The owner, Mohammad was very nice and the food was delicious! I ordered a "royal" and the "joojeh kabob" and they were very tasty. I'll definitely be returning and next time I will remember to order a few yogurt drinks as well. The food was very tasty and all homemade. It always tastes as good as the last time I went, so they have nailed the consistency in their food. It is clearly made with care and passion for quality. Also this is one of the cleanest places I've eaten in recent memory. The staff was super friendly, warm, and welcoming. They even shared some traditional ways to enjoy the food which made the experience feel extra authentic. If you are interested in authentic Persian food that is really good, in a clean and friendly setting, then this is the place for you. To top it all off it's really inexpensive so it's a great value too. Food this good I wouldn't mind being a bit more expensive, but the fact that it is not is the cherry on top. read more

I really enjoy discovering small, locally owned and operated restaurants that take pride in the food they serve. Shondiz is a really small place, maybe 10 tables total. The owner was very friendly and took the time to explain what the offerings were, right before he prepped and served the plate I selected. The plate portion size was generous; a value for the price. The mild "hot" sauce was delicate and unique. The rice was colorful and perfectly done. The lamb "doner" (think gyro meat) was grilled to perfection. We love Persian food, but it would be rude to expect our friends to cook for us all the time. So we decided to try Shondiz DTC near Micro Center. Hubs got the Chicken Schwarma; I got the lamb kabob plate because they were out of lamb chops (next time). Also got the dolma, humus w/ pita, and baklava. Also tasted the lemonade and a pickle that Chef Achmed is testing as a possible menu addition. We got our food to go, but there are a few chairs if you prefer to eat in at this gourmet food place disguised as a take-out place. Meals and sandwiches come with choices of pickles and relishes. Sandwiches come stuffed with fries, while plates come with the fragrant Basmati rice. Every item is made up fresh upon order. Readers take note...this place is awesome and affordable. Oh just terrible. The doner sandwich came in a TORTILLA. This is not Mexican food, where is the pita? My wife and I decided to try this place out since it's opened down the street from where we live. We stopped by close to closing time and were quite surprised by the level of service and quality of food. The gentleman that runs that place is hilarious and the food was even better than his sense of humor. I love Persian food and this place was great! We got the lamb döner plate, the chicken döner plate and the veggie plate. They were all excellent. I love dolmas but am pretty picky about them. These were fantastic. The falafel was made fresh, like right in front of us, and was delicious. My only complaint was the side of hummus that came with the veggie plate was small. Next time I'll just order more hummus. The prices were great. It is small inside but take away is just fine with us. We will definitely be back! read more
