A lot of bad reviews on here but my husband & I had a pleasant experience for breakfast. We arrived around 10:20 & ordered the breakfast buffet. Our server brought our drinks immediately & picked up our finished plates quickly. We noticed they put out fresh breakfast food on the buffet at 10:45 even though it ends at 11:00 & that was nice. Most places start tearing it down around that time. The manager checked on us which was reassuring. We were both pleased with the food & would return here. read more

The food is alright. Not too bad of a place to stop in and eat. However the service my table received by a waitress named Wilma was not good at all. She got my drink order wrong. Then there were 2 different checks at the table and she combined the checks. She came to the table around 2 times while we were here for 30-45 minutes. Other than that, the music is nice. Sat there and watched people get called ahead of me that came in after with more people on their party than mine. Got up and asked the general manager why we weren't called yet. She got very rude saying they called my name many times. This was untrue as I sat inside the store the entire time. They had my name crossed off on the paper list like we were sat already. Yes they were busy but it is not ok to be rude to customers when they question why they have not been sat yet. Also this manager came in to work after I was already there and on the list as I watched her walk through the door. read more

We do not understand the rational for the reviews that have been given for this restaurant! We arrive with a group of nine people between two different tours and hungry! At last half went to the well stocked banquet tables and made at least two trips to get more delicious foods! A few order meals from the menu. All said the food was fantastic and the service was fast and friendly! The restaurant was busy! The buffet was a wide variety of foods about four delicious meats and a high numbers of side items! Salad and compliments were great, but the main items were huge! Breakfast and dinner items were all delicious and in plentiful numbers! Parking is a private lot with plenty of room! Restrooms were clean and orderly! We all recommend you sop and try this Resturant! It parallels I 77 and easily on/off exit! Sorry about no pictures we were too busy enjoying our meals! read more

Will not stop again ! Ordered from the menu cheeseburger and fries for 8.99 got 13 fries with this ! I told the waitress where's the fries .... we might be running low on them she said ...So I am being charge full price ? Yes you are ! No refill on my soda either ! No tip either ! This places should close the doors if they don't have enough food ! Heard another customer was going to buy gift cards for this place I told her my experience and she left without purchasing them ! The place to go to people watch and get a breakfast buffet. The food is greasy as can be thebfruits and veggies look like they have been left out three days, BUT they have a trough of bacon all the bacon you can eat perfectly cooked. That's all that matters and the reason I drive from Cleveland every once in a while to go here. read more

The words "seafood buffet" caught my eye as we were boogeying down the street didn't have time to note the name of the restaurant; so when it was time for "lupper" at 3:00 PM or so we circled back and lo and behold it was "Shoney's." We adjusted our expectations and entered. This place was SPOTLESS, virtually gleaming! And they were cleaning the clean when we sauntered in! Bolstered by the appearance of the place we adjusted our expectations again! That adjustment was quickly offset when we sat down with our plates. The first bite of hot seafood was not hot, nor was it warm, nor was it tepid, but rather the ambient temperature of the room. It was a cold day, so that was probably somewhere around 68 degrees. We hadn't started with grilled orange roughy, (not offered), but rather deep or pan-fried perch maybe? And cajun catfish, (fried of course), and clam strips and teeny tiny shrimp all deep fried stuff. The only non-fried item that seemed available was the new "catfish", tilapia! It was cold as well. There are few things more distasteful than cold fried seafood. Suddenly the tenor of "all you can eat", quickly shifted to "all you can keep down." In the interest of not testing the parameters of the latter, most of the plate was left unmolested and we turned to the salad bar component. It was fine. We've all experienced the feeling, countless times we've been asked how everything was by the waitress and had nothing adverse to report, and now we have something to say, and nary a query is made...............curses! Up to the cashier we saunter with credit card in hand and lo and behold the Manager checks us out and asks "How was everything?" My response? "The service was excellent, but the hot food on this buffet was the COLDEST "hot" food I have ever had in my entire life!" He was quite apologetic and asked if we had told our waitress, to which I responded "No, no inquiry about the food was fielded!" Again he apologized and took $5 off the bill. A very nice jesture. They must have blown the fuse that operated the steam tables and not known it. Based on the cleanliness of the place and the eagerness to please exhibited by the staff, I really wanted to report favorably on this place, but alas it's going to have to wait for the next visit during which I will have to order from the menu. read more

My family and I got the lunch/dinner buffet on seafood night and we got steaks along with the meal. Some of the buffet good was good but the catfish and a few other dishes tasted undercooked and I told the waitress medium rare for my steak but when I cut into it, there was blood coming out of it and it was completely raw. read more

I wish i could give a lower mark! My daughter and I went for breakfast at the Shoneys in Dover Ohio. We arrived right at the transition time between breakfast and lunch. While my daughter was getting a salad from the buffet she saw an older gentleman waiting for a utensil. He wasn't saying anything. Just waiting. The woman behind the buffet became really rude and snapped at this guy saying "we don't have everything out yet. You'll have to wait" and the man just took his plate and walked away. Just the way she said it was VERY offensive and enough to make my daughter and myself uncomfortable. It turns out this gentleman was seated right next to us and I noticed that he was wearing a black veterans baseball hat! Imagine that. Being rude to a veteran on INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!!!! I tried to be discreet and spoke with our server about what happened and her reasoning was that this man is a regular and knows he can't get food off of the buffet until all the utensils are there. REALLY!!!! Are you friggen kidding me???? At this point I was done with this restaurant. My daughter and I decided we would go somewhere else and eat. We received our bill that charged us full price picnic Fourth of July lunch ($30) even though we only ate scraps from what was left of the breakfast part of the buffet. All started well for breakfast THEN as I sat facing the bar I see an employee fixing her a bowl of biscuit and gravy. No big deal UNTIL she stopped at the end of the bar and ate it. Another employee walked up and they had conversation. She moved and let him pass into the bar. He began to check the clean plates (or so one would think). I thought ok that's good UNTIL he, with bare hands, began picking off stuff of plates and putting them back in the "use these clean plates". I told the server when she asked about my breakfast. Said she would tell the manager, female. Well manager goes into bar pours water and DID NOT remove plates hand picked clean, bare hand picked clean. Seems they have no problem with cleaning the food surface of plates with their bare hands and putting them out there for us to eat. No gloves, picking and rubbing plates. DISGUSTING. We drive there, about 2 hours, just to have breakfast at least once a month, sometimes more. The breakfast bar is amazing. Sometimes we ll get there as they are switching to lunch, but I always have breakfast but the others often opt for lunch. No one has ever had anything that wasn t just wonderful. The staff is amazingly nice. I see the same people every time we go. The place is spotless, the tables are clean, the food is wonderful; hot and very tasty. What more could you want. I use to go to the one in Sandusky but they closed it. When I got to W. Va. I eat at the one in Marietta. Last year we had our family reunion at the one in Parkersburg, W. Va. and now I claim the one in Dover as my own. I read some other reviews and was shocked by what I read. If a place is as bad as what some of them were saying, I promise you I wouldn t be going there, but I do and if it were closer I would be going a lot more often. read more
