New York Sour 11/2023 SO GOOD.
    Keith B.

Oh. My. Gawd. This is a hell of an addition to Buckeye Lake - I've been once so far, with a dinner planned this weekend. The decor - it's spread out, so you don't feel cramped or on top of people next to you. They have tall booths in the back, giving it a club vibe (the stage on the other side - it was closed off, but I'm super curious what they have planned here!) We did brunch today - Bacon Lettuce Fried Green Tomato and Brioche French Toast (and she requested bananas fosters added). We started with a Sparkling French 75's and a Bloody Mary. WOW. Amazing. Possibly the best Bloody Mary I have had in a long time. I followed it with a New York Sour - a complex riff on a sour. Now, their menu IS online now (thanks for the heads up, Kalah!) - but their menu is balanced. It has its basic items, it has its twists, it has its riffs. A little something for everyone (I didn't see a kids menu, but this does not feel like the place to bring your kids - it's adults, a date night, a relaxing atmosphere). The service - we came on a Sunday afternoon off season. It was slow, not a lot of staff - but they were buzzing around. Not once did I feel neglected - our server's drink recommendation for the New York Sour was on point - it was both a beautiful drink and a delicious one. Basically - if you're on the fence, they're worth it. And when I come back Saturday night to try dinner, I will complete the experience, because their menu looks delicious.

Big Breakfast Bowl was delicious!! (03/16/2024)

A good happened to be in town visiting, so we planned brunch here so we could catch up and fill up, haha. When we arrived, it wasn't crowded at all. I think there was maybe two other parties there; they open at 11 am on Saturdays, so they serve a later brunch than most. By the time we left, about 2 hours later, it was pretty full. Our gentleman server was young, but knew his stuff (didn't have to write anything down), polite, answered our menu q's and offered suggestions. I picked their Big Breakfast Bowl, and it was fantastic. Different flavor profiles than you run of the mill breakfast hash mesh-ups. The base-layer smashed spuds were perfectly soft with crisp edges. I'm not sure which sauce gave the orange coloring, the sausage gravy or their Shasta sauce, but together it was definitely one of the best sausage gravy get-ups I've had in my life. I loved the small sausage chunks; very happy it wasn't minced down to nothingness. I'm so glad Buckeye Lake has a genuine restaurant to brag about. I would love to go back and try their lunch/dinner menu. They have happy hour - drinks AND food items - from 4-6 Monday through Friday, along with daily drink specials Mondays-Thursdays. While I can't comment on the tastes, they have many appealing cocktails that sound intriguing. I will state prices are higher than average here. However, everything is homemade. So quality and quantity were spot on for my experience.

We had a really great dinner here. When we pulled up, it was pretty empty, so we weren't sure what to expect, but the food was phenomenal! We also had a non alcoholic gin drink with ginger that was super great, too! (But we're were a little surprised by the $13 price tag for the small amount, and considering it wasn't an actual cocktail.) The deviled eggs were yummy, and so was the fish and chips and the cheesesteak. The potatoes on the side were AMAZING, and I need to figure out how to make those at home! The service was friendly and non invasive. We will be back! The menu is small, but they execute everything well!

Pork chop & horseradish smashed potatoes - delicious!

"Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore...!!!" Said differently, "OMG, I can't believe this place is in Millersport on Buckeye Lake...!" Hereinafter Cocktail Tavern is awesome. Wonderful. Unique. It's kinda like an old supper club. Plush half-round banquette seating, a few chandeliers, a nice bar, mood lighting - really lovely. Service is on point. These nice, friendly folks are well-trained. The food is excellent. Mostly Cajun/creole. Gumbo was good, pork chop was delicious, pasta was really nice, shrimp & grits were good. The chef is very good. Cocktails were outstanding. Owner Ben is apparently a master mixologist, and it shows. Absolutely excellent shaken cocktails. The Chet Baker was especially fantastic, and the French 125 was really good. Ben is out working the room, speaking with every table, and in between talking to customers he runs around bussing tables and wiping them down. You know an owner is serious about operating their restaurant well when they're running around the dining room with a bus rag in their hand. He's also exceptionally nice. This guy's a winner. This restaurant's a winner. My 2 constructive suggestions - offered very respectfully to the chef - the Bananas Foster sauce on the perfectly fried beignets was off-putting. Not enough caramel flavor. Bananas that had the hard consistency of plantains. The sauce is a great idea, but on this night needed a little more work. And the gumbo was saltier than we needed. It may have come from the smoked pork, but it was quite salty (and otherwise delicious). My wife's request - when the season begins, please, please, please open for Sunday brunch. The dining experience around Buckeye Lake is changing - for the better. There are finally a few good places to eat that serve more than fried bar food. Of these better new restaurants, Hereinafter is the best among them, and my new favorite place. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED...!!!

First time here, had reservations for 5:30 on a Friday evening. It was not busy at all, but it did start to pick up as we were leaving (Close to 7). Looks are deceiving from the outside. Walking in it is a very spacious area with nice table seating and quite a large bar area. We were greeted by multiple people and upon seating were presented with water and the menu. Luckily it was happy hour, which had deal on drinks and apps. I had The Ricky and later a God Rush cocktail. Next visit ill set at the bar as enjoy watching them mix up the drinks, reminds me of the 80's movie, Cocktail! For appetizer we had the deviled eggs. They were appropriately sized, with a creamy filling ant topped with a piece of bacon. Pretty good! my main dish was the fish and chips, two pieces of fish that was dredged in a beer batter and fried. served with Cajun potatoes and a blue cheese slaw. The main dish is where my score dropped to 4 stars. The fish was overly greasy in my opinion, the Cajun potatoes were good, but lacked Cajun, more seasoning needed, and the slaw fell short, for me. Overall, great place for a drink in a classy establishment on the lake. I would return but get a different meal next time.

We were visiting from Florida and decided to come here for brunch on Saturday. The food was AMAZING. I got the scampi grits and my boyfriend got the breakfast burrito. Both dishes were bursting with flavor and a generous sized portion. The drinks we got were good and the french press coffee was super cute. And speaking of super cute, there was also a grey kitten outside that made our whole day after missing our pets on our trip. The service was great - our server was attentive and sweet, even with sitting in the cute patio area away from the rest of the restaurant. I wish we had more time in town to come back again. But next year when we are back we will be sure to stop by here again!

Upon entering we were greeted and seated immediately . Decor is new and fresh with Lux finishes and comfortable seating. We were greeted by Mackey and Madison, who kindly showed the table light in which you turn on when needing their attention! We started with the sparkling 75 which was crisp and refreshing ! I added Plymouth gin which I have never tried but Ben who is owner and mixologist was super insightful and did not steer me wrong!l This place has a unique take on its libations! DISCLOSURE - if you are looking for a hum drum place for standard bar drinks THIS IS NOT your huckleberry! Any drink served in a coup is chilled with liquid nitrogen and all ice is hand carved after being put thru an extensive filtration process! The atmosphere was light with lots is smiling faces and pleasant music of yesteryear humming in the background generating an upbeat vibe. For starters we had the deviled eggs. The creaminess of the pimento cheese and the candied bacon , made these some of the best we have ever had and cannot wait to get back to try again!!! The fried green tomatoes with goat cheese and bacon jam were crispy and flavorful. The basil being the perfectly added garnishment. The fried oysters were plump and cooked to perfection. The roumalade could have presented a little more spice but a def do over. Our main events consisted of the jambayla and the stuffed blacked trout. Don't let the "small plates" disclosure fool you these are generous portions!! The trout was a 10/10 which was a whole blackened fish cooked perfectly with the stewed okra. It could have been a meal for two and actually did notice the couple next to us sharing it! The Jambalaya was bursting with seafood and sausage and like the trout could have been shared. Cannot wait to return! A true gem on buckeye lake! So excited to see what such enthusiastic owners will do with this amazing space!

Amazing brunch! Crab cakes Benedict and spicy Bloody Mary

We couldn't decide what to get because everything on the menu looked awesome. We got catfish and cheesy grits with chorizo gravy, which was also amazing. I'm definitely coming back here as often as I can.

We have now been here twice in one week. The food has been delicious, the service friendly and informative, and the cocktails delicious and unique!

So.... If you're looking for the complete experience this is the place. I've been there a few times now and the consistency remains. They bring art to food and libation every time. From hand crafted with love cocktails to delightful, fresh entrees the Here and After has a great evening in store for you. The pricing is correct for the value you get in your food and beverages. We were made aware of brunch on Saturday and Sunday and that menu looks fantastic! Lets start with bottomless mimosas....

My husband and I have been here twice. Both times the food was bad. And I mean really bad. Staff is nice but sorry, the food is just awful.

We were seated behind a barrier, and after dropping off our entrees, our server disappeared. My husband realized that he hadn't been served any condiments with his fish & chips -- no tartar sauce, lemon, vinegar or ketchup, nor slaw. He waited a few minutes to dig in, figuring someone would pop around the corner and we'd catch their eye, or our own server would return to check on us. Nope. Meanwhile, hubby had tasted a few fries, which were barely warm and a bit flabby. He started to eat his fish, sans tartar, and said it was ok, but not super hot. Fish and chips out to come out of the fryer so fresh and hot that you need to wait a few minutes to eat it so you don't burn your mouth -- but not here. This food had been sitting around a while. A few other servers had checked on tables nearish to ours, but didn't give us so much as a glance, and didn't hear our loud "Excuse me!"s. We weren't thrilled at the prospect of having to get up and go to the bar or hostess station to get help. But because both our meals had become unenjoyable thanks to waiting over ten minutes for someone to happen by, I decided I'd go seek assistance. But just then, our server happened by. We flagged her down and asked for all the things that were missing. She glanced at my husband's still pretty full plate and her eyes popped a bit, clearly realizing that the sitch was not pleasing to us. She brought the missing condiments, but damage done at that point. It had been a little exhausting waiting around and keeping our eyes peeled for a passing server. The restaurant should make it more of a point to send servers through that lower seating area on the regular. It was a pretty mediocre dinner.

Based on several other reviews, I was a bit worried at first about what was to be expected with speed and quality of service. Our server, a young lady, was excellent, and helpful with making our choices. Her manager or chef seemed like a man possessed running around the floor to assist his staff at the time and did stop by once to check in with us. As far as menu changes or decor from a recent refresh, I have no basis of comparison so couldn't care less about that. We were starving so we opted for recommendations from our server spanning all over the menu. We had everything from cheese curds and bang bang shrimp to the Reuben and patty melt, to a filet mignon with loaded baked potato as a side. In retrospect, kicking ourselves now since nobody in our party got any seafood outside of the shrimp appetizer. Doubtful we will be back east of Columbus for a while so I have no idea when we'd realistically get to try the Salmon BLT or seafood pasta. Unfortunately nobody snagged photos of the food since we were famished and it wasn't a priority. I don't eat sweets, but was told the Key Lime Pie and Banana Fosters were well worth saving room for. If you're like me, I'd opt for the OG Dockside Old Fashioned instead.
