We love Shoney's! This one was located in Florence South Carolina. We spent the night in Fayetteville, the day that very bad storms were predicted. So we got there at 8:15, one of the first customers. We always opt for the breakfast buffet-which is more than just breakfast. There is a salad bar as well as a fruit and dessert bar. The food was piled high and constantly replenished. I always get the scrambled eggs, sautéed mushrooms. grits, and bacon. The buffet had sausages, fried bologna, biscuits, gravy, pancakes, French toast sticks and much more. Before we knew it, the place was buzzing. It seems to be a favorite for local people. So many took out food. Our waitress was great, making sure we had plenty of fresh hot delicious coffee. We're sorry there aren't more Shoney's near us in Florida. The place was so welcoming, spotless and the help super friendly. read more

We stopped here at Shoney's on the way home from Virginia, it was easy access to leave the highway and get back on. We usually do the breakfast buffet but opted to just order off the menu. Overall 4/5 There was some hard rice in the fried rice. Only reason why food is rated at 4. We paid with cash because there is a difference in payment when you pay with credit/debit. There are plenty of seating and we seated ourselves. Bathroom is available, plenty of parking and the restaurant is pretty open. read more

The staff were pleasant so I appreciated that. I'm shocked this place is still in business. There was only one other table of people the whole time I was there and now I know why. The food was terrible. The salad bar was the best part of it all. The hot food was clearly sitting for hours. The mashed potatoes were dry and stiff. The chicken wings were over cooked. I LOVE Mac and cheese and only had two bites. Nothing really appeared appetizing. The corn bread could have broken glass if you were to throw it. And buffet was 15.99. Literally could have gone to Golden Corral or a Chinese buffet for about the same price and had wayyy more variety and taste. This was my first time here and it will certainly be my last. So since I've lived in Florence wanted to visit Shoney's but they have early hours and not open after 3pm. We finally made it a plan to visit on Saturday morning before close. Located on N Cashau Dr. The parking lot is always packed here and this Saturday was no exception. Inside dining area is not as large as appears outside but everyone gets packed in. The draw in morning is definitely breakfast bar which also has salad bar for $13.99. After both of us sampling the buffet I would say it is OK, eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuit, pancake, French toast sticks, cinnamon apples; I did not see grits or oatmeal. For me I would order an omelet next time since my appetite is not big. For ppl w big breakfast appetite they may get their moneys worth. Nostalgia hits hard with this one. Just like you remember, but not shuttered like every other Shoney's in the country. We had the breakfast buffet and it was quality. Tried and tru, traditional breakfast buffet with salad and a few lunch-type choices. The entire staff was great, but Tracey stood out. Her care and concern for us was spot-on. Clearly this location is a Florence tradition. The restaurant was busy, but not chaotic. It added to the overall charm of the experience. On my adventures to drink less and eat more veggies , picked this in Florence across from my Hampton, this was a nice friendly change to my norm of high end sushi bars or steakhouses. Really nice girl serving me, picked the Buffett and loaded up on salad but really liked their choice of green beans and Lima beans- but 6 choices of wings that were quite good. I tried to limit the wings but kept that as my protein, loaded more from salad bar and for $15 can't go wrong. Place wasn't too busy so tipped well just to add some cheer, but happy with food quality and taste. No alcohol so another day I dodged my urge to have a beer like I'm having now while writing this!! read more

TO GO REVIEW. Stopped in this morning about 1000am for a bite to go. Soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted and asked if it was a dine in or to go. I was provided a menu to look at. The menu did have a lot of options available, but the menu was in a state of disrepair somewhat. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries (despite it being breakfast) and no questions or issues with time of day. I also fixed a salad to go. They had a nice spread for salad and it was clean, fresh, and stocked. I also glanced at the breakfast bar that was up just for a review. The food looked hot, fresh, and welcoming. My only criticism of the bar was the amount of bacon piled on breakfast bar, seemed a bit much to me that allowed for bacon at the top to get cold. The crowd was a decent size for a Tuesday morning and seem to be no issues. The restaurant was clean with nice "home feel" touches like plants and decorative end tables at the front. I was checked on several times during my short wait for my food. When I checked the food at home, everything was fresh, clean, and neat in the box along with needed utensils and napkins. Shoney's is an iconic food chain, but this one hasn't been renovated in a while. The food was mediocre. My favorite was the french toast, but even that wasn't anything special. It wasn't very clean, but it wasn't super dirty either. The worst part is that I saw a stink bug and two roaches on my chair and the wall. The service was alright. Two visits in Jan. 2019. Dinner visit I was greeted and seated, and then there was a significant delay until a server came to the table. After an almost 5 minute wait I was prepared to leave, but the server came with about 1 minute before I was planning to leave. After that the baked spaghetti I ordered was delivered to the table with a reasonable time. Fair flavor. I returned at 11 am the next day for lunch. Was immediately seated and the server took my order for a bacon cheeseburger. At 11:30 I was standing up to leave the restaurant since the food had not been delivered to the table. The server put it into a take out box at my request. When I went to the cashier to pay and got the typical "hope you enjoyed your visit" I clearly said NO and the cashier make no comment at all. These folks were just great . Their breakfast buffet was in full swing . You have to put on gloves (provided) before you serve yourself at the buffet . All the food was good , server good . 06-11-18 We stopped in for breakfast on our way from Wilmington, NC to Ashville, NC, it was our first time visiting this restaurant. We chose it based on the Yelp reviews and after almost three hours of driving it was time to take a break. It makes a very good first impression: bright, clean, spacious and you are greeted by a friendly hostess. We had a friendly server who brought us coffee, water and menus. She told us about the buffet; after a quick check of the menu, we chose the buffet. It is one of the best breakfast buffets that I have come across. I loaded my plate with bacon, ham, grits, scrambled eggs coved with warm salsa. The bacon was the way I like it, not too crisp. The grits were smooth and creamy. I covered the eggs with warm salsa which I had never seen before and was a delicious addition. Their bread pudding was some of the best I have had in a long time. You can be sure the next time I see a Shoney's restaurant, I'll be stopping in for breakfast. read more

Oh mercy! My wife and I stopped here on our way to TN for breakfast. They were slammed. They were busier than a late 90s Shoney's Sunday Breakfast Buffet! We thought we would be waiting for a bit or that the service would most likely be poor. We couldn't have been further from the truth! We were sat within a minute and our waitress was ON TOP OF IT!! OK, so Shoney's was a big hit with me when I was a little kid. They were pretty much everywhere. Indeed, after doing some digging, I have now found out that they had over 1500 locations coast-to-coast during the zenith of their popularity back in the day. Then, as if by the stroke of a magic wand, they all disappeared. Or so I thought anyway. I was in the South Carolina on Buiz and we were on our way to Columbia when I saw a sign on the interstate for Shoney's and got all excited. The local rep that was with me informed me that Shoney's never went away in the South, and he was more than a little bewildered that I wanted to stop. "You really want to go to Shoney's"...? I believe were his exact words. How often does one get to relive a childhood memory? There was no talking me out of it so begrudgingly my esteemed colleague pulled off the highway. Now granted that I have not set foot in one of these places in a long ass time, but it did give me that trace of nostalgia coming through the doors. They still have bear as their mascot and still have a semi-open kitchen set-up. The staff here was very friendly and inviting, and since we stopped in around 10:45 AM, it was not busy at all. They do serve a full menu here, but the big draw for me is their brunch buffet, which does not appear to have changed a great deal from my memories of the past. It is simply glorious. Salad, soup bread, eggs, vegetables, meat,dessert, etc. are all on tap and it was being refilled and tended to on a pretty much constant basis by the staff. They do give you dinky little plates for the buffet, probably in hopes that it will encourage people to get less food. As for me, I was not so easily deterred by this psychological ploy. I did not have any breakfast that morning so I was going for the gusto. As far as buffets go, the food was actually really good and aided on by the fact that I was starving when we finally stopped. We just keep coming back to the breakfast buffet here! We're in Florence/Darlington on weekends often these days. The buffet offers something for everyone... and then some. There are biscuits on the buffet, but if you want toast, just ask the server. The eggs are always fluffy, the bacon is crisp and the bread pudding is over the top with a little maple syrup drizzled on. Our only complaint is that there has been a very loud, obnoxious crowd there a few mornings this month. Last weekend, they were yelling, spewing obscene language and the police had to be called. We'll go back, but we won't stay if the same group is there. read more

Rice and sausage pieces, salsa, melted cheese, scrambled eggs, biscuits, bacon, muffins, Home fries, FRIED BOLOGNA!!!!!!! No sausage patties BUT THEY HAD FRIED BOLOGNAAAAA!!! It was a little crispy, little tender, little juicy. It was literally fried perfectly. So I made a biscuit with fried bologna and bacon on it and it was so amazing. I paid for the buffet $7.25 and had a .75 cent biscuit haha. The only downfall of Shoney's buffet was the buffet bar. There was a salad bar that took up half of the buffet bar. Who eats salad at 6am? Put something else out there lol. It was delicious and it was $7.25 for the buffet & $2.25 for coffee so for $10 you get a great breakfast. read more

Ok, backstory: we only go to Shoney's in an absolute pinch. We live in Virginia and the location near us doesn't look near as nice as this one. Also, I've never been a fan of the state of SC. We're driving south and just wanted lunch. Current day: We were set to go to a nearby restaurant but they were out of the food that we wanted so, like usual, Shoneys was there in a pinch. Hubs got buffet. 5 yo and I ordered from the menu. We ordered: turkey club w/ fries, pancake with chicken tenders. The food did not come out in a timely fashion, or even together. HOWEVER, our server, Stef, and the owner, AND the manager came to the table and apologized for the delay. They offered the kid free ice cream. Finally, the manager just came by and said our meal was free. Two thoughts: One, that was super sweet! Two, the wait wasn't horribly long. I counted about 40 minutes. That's insane for what we ordered, but I've waited way longer for food. I don't know, all in all, I sure ain't complaining about free food. I'd also stop by again because above all, we were treated very well, and that is what's most important. BTW: That club was SO good. They even cooked the kid's in the shape Mickey Mouse. read more

Nice staff, but the breakfast buffet on Sunday was boring. Runny eggs, cold potatoes and very little effort on quality for everything else. The only good thing was that it is under $10. With all the restaurants in Florence, SC, you would think they would put forth more effort. One good thing about poor quality food, I didn't leave stuffed, or full for that matter. Raise your standards. I get it, they will come no matter what, but at least have pride in the Shoney's name. Don't waste your calories, get an Egg McMuffin instead! read more

Shoneys is definitely the go to place for awesome breakfast buffet! We were immediately seated and taken care of by our waitress boo boo! First and foremost, I just want to recognize boo boo for being an amazing waitress. Took care of my boyfriend and I and made us feel very welcome. Furthermore, the buffet had a wide variety of items to choose from. They had waffles, bacon, corn beef hash, grits, and the list goes on. To top it off the buffet is only $8.25 a person and is definitely well worth it. From my understanding, Shoneys is a dying breed and are pretty much only on the east coast, with the majority of them being in South Carolina. I highly recommend stopping for breakfast next time you're passing through, or just looking for a good breakfast with a variety of options! read more

We stopped in here on our way home after a Fourth of July reunion of sorts with my family in Lake City. The service was a bad as I have ever experienced. Our server was a stoner, or was trying to play one. Nasty, dirty hair hanging over her face, seemed to be half asleep when she talked to us, could not get a refill of coke, and when she brought the check, she informed us that we had waited about long enough for it. We had finished eating for over 15 minutes, at least. I love Shoney's Breakfast bar, have for years, this one was pretty good too. However, the only thing that I ate that my bride did not eat was the bologna. It tasted a little different at first bite, then I realized after a few bites that it was bad. It may have not been held cold properly, it may have been out of date, but it was bad. On the three hour trip back to NC, I stopped a total of six times, four to throw up, two for dry heaves. I have never been so sick in my life. When you are serving food to this amount of folks, you need to be careful. It kicked my ass, but what it would have done to an elderly person, or someone with a weakened immune system, scares me to think about. I will not be having any bologna in the near future, but y'all need to get your act together. read more

Great service! We were waited on during a busy thanksgiving weekend. We were always checked on, about every 5 minutes from different servers. I was very impressed. My wife and I have visited this Shoney's on several occasions, today we went to the buffet for breakfast and it was getting up to the noon hour (Sunday) and they were switching the bar over from from breakfast to lunch. I was going to make a trip up to get a little of the lunch portion and was informed by the waitress that if I wished to have some of the lunch I needed to pay for the additional charge from 8.99 to 12.99. I know for a fact that Golden Corral does not do this, certainly it is their right, I won't be back for the breakfast buffet anymore. Be aware that you may be up-charged if you come in near the buffet change. The amount of food that I would have consumed would in no way justify the cost difference. Another customer that came in at the latter end of breakfast felt the same way. I am putting this out there because customers need to be aware. There are too many choices out there, the restaurant industry has a lot of competition and there are other restaurants would that would love to have the patronage. read more
