Town House was a fave growing up. I had a thing for their onion rings and chicken tenders. Then I discovered the greek grilled chicken dinner and my life was forever changed. My favorite meal here has been the greek grilled chicken dinner, half onion rings/half fries and no salad for as long as I can remember. They are only open Monday - Friday so when I moved out of town, I knew that if I wanted this meal, I would need to come home on Fridays. The last few times I've come here, the food has been real hit or miss so I haven't been going to Town House as often. Recently tho, I made sure I was back in Florence by 6pm on a Friday. Unfortunately for me, this was another miss. The fries were old with very little salt. The onion rings were hot but still very little seasoning. The greek grilled chicken itself was also low on flavor. My mom tried the chicken and also mentioned the flavor wasn't there. As a reference, my mom is on a low sodium diet due to heart issues so the fact that even she felt there was a lack of seasoning is a problem. On the bright side, there was a little chicken tender hidden in my fries which was quite tasty. It won't be any time soon but I'll definitely return eventually. And the next time I do, I'll just get some tenders and onion rings. read more

This is a favorite of Florence natives. (As someone not from Florence, I will add a disclaimer that the bar is definitely lower for good food and good service here). However, Townhouse is one of the better ones. I wouldn't say it out performs good restaurants in other towns or cities, but it's definitely one of the best here. If you're going, the best bet is to get the Greek grilled chicken in regular or salad form. I've had both, and they are very good. Everything else on the menu seems to be hit or miss. Also, don't expect the cheapest prices, it's a little more than you might feel like it should be. The way they take your order is a little gruff which can be off putting on your first visit, but I think it's just part of their schtick. Anyway, if you find yourself stuck in Florence like me and are tired of chain restaurants, definitely give this place a try. read more

Not much lettuce here at all, it was tomatoes and cucumbers and grilled chicken and green peppers and olives and boiled egg and a ton of feta cheese. I couldn't finish this monster salad. Service was okay, the interior of the restaurant was okay. But you're not coming here for the ambiance, you're coming here for the Americanized Greek-style food. I went stay with a friend a month ago. Went to the drive-thru ordered two burgers one with fries other with salad and two drinks. Was told we had to wait about 15-20 minutes cuz I have to go back to the line decide to park and wait 15-20 minutes my friend went in and got the food came back as we were driving off looked at the food and is only two burgers with no fries and a salad and a baked potato to which we end up splitting the baked potato. My thing is if I order something I expect it to all be there esp if I have to wait over 15 minutes for it . everything should ready and on time like this read I'm giving them. If you're not capable of this ,then I don't think I capable of giving you my business. Early last week, while sitting in on a murder trial to get some school credit, I was hungry and just wanted a great meal (murder trials will do that to you). Being that I am a law student, I love affordable prices and found this GEM! I am obsessed and I had to work hard not to go everyday I was there! This is truly a small little diner so if you want to sit inside during lunch traffic, get cozy with a neighbor because it may be hard to find a seat. The set up also is old country diner style. You walk in to the register and a bench for those waiting on their order, and to the left of the registers are various rows of benches and tables to eat. I order a large hot dog meal. Now they didn't give me much info on what came in the meal other than hot dog lbs and fries but I was fine with that. On my hot dog I got chili, onions, mustard, and cole slaw. The meal came out hot and fresh with my loaded hot dogs, fresh thick cut AMAZING fries and a small salad! I was so happy about the salad because I've been doing my best to get in shape so it made me feel like I was being healthy lol. Y'all. When I bit into this hot dog- IT WAS THE MOST AMAZING HOT DOG EVER! I wish I was exaggerating but I'm not ! I am a country hot dog girl, all the way down to my favorite NC red hot dogs (yes red hot dogs are a thing). This hot dog was an all-Beef hot dog loaded with fresh slaw that was well seasoned and added a great crunch, and amazing chili! This hot dog was so good I did not even attempt to add anything at all to the hot dog - not even ketchup !!!! The fries were heaven sent. You can't go wrong with perfectly crispy, long, thick-cut fries! And the salad was fresh and I loved the added pickles. Also they had homemade ranch. Throughout the different places that I've lived, I have noticed that the definition of "Greek Restaurant" is different in the South when compared to other parts of the country. It seems that in most places a Greek restaurant primarily consists of Greek food such as: Gyros, Greek salad, Dolmas, Pita Bread, etc. But it seems like in the South, the term Greek restaurant is a place that is owned and run by someone of that nationality, that still has some Greek dishes, but mostly has fried seafood, chicken, and other local staples on the menu. This is a real interesting phenomenon to me, and one that I only thought about when someone not from the southeast came to Town House and asked "Is this a Greek restaurant?" I have many theories on how this came to be, but I'll write that somewhere else. This review is about the Mecca of restaurants to me when I come visit SC. If this place ever drops in quality, it will crush my spirit! Town House is a definite stop if you are driving up or down I-95. I've gotten a lot of different meals here throughout the years, but recently I have stayed with the flounder/oyster combo box. I will say this first of all, the cup of salad can be left out. I always say that next time I will just tell them that in advance because I'm not touching it or the salad dressing, there is no room. All of the seafood is so fresh! The flounder is so tasty and cooked to perfection! The oysters are so big and juicy! My mouth is drooling right now as I type this! Even the fries are seasoned well, but don't start with the fries..there is no room for that either! They give you so much fish that this box is easily two meals, so if two of you are going and you want the same thing, just get one dinner and share. Their menu runs the spectrum of seafood, burgers, chicken, cake, etc. Shrimp, catfish, oysters, whiting, flounder...if it swims it's fried here! This is a staple in the Florence SC area, and there's a reason for it! Good food and good people too! The staff is just as good as the food that they serve! Oh yeah, one more tip. Since you are already indulging in thousands of fried calories, ask for cherry Pepsi. I don't think it's on the menu, but they put a lot of syrup and cherries in it. Passing through on the way to Myrtle Beach...this is a local spot with a nice "Greek-focused" menu. We ordered a Lamb Gyro with fries and one with a Greek salad. The meals were OK - not much flavor on the gyros. The grilled pita was good but the tzatziki sauce was very runny and the tomatoes were very white. The Gyro meat was grilled crisp. The Greek salad wasn't bad but the strawberry milkshake wasn't real ice cream blended into a shake. It was an icy dairy product with red-colored flavoring. This started out as a four star review, but I changed it because while it is not upscale dining, it is great at what it is. My job has me in a different city nearly every night, so I eat out waaay too much, although the upside is that I get to try many different places. Tonight, I decided to try this one. The menu is homestyle, southern cooking, at least the part I looked at is. The prices are reasonable, portions generous, and taste......spot on. As a southerner, any restaurant that doesn't have sweet tea is simply a place to grab a water and ask for directions to an actual restaurant.........with sweet tea. The sweet tea didn't dissapoint. The fried chicken was like home cooked, the baked potato was good size, and came with butter and sour cream without asking, as it should. The one thing, and it is very small, is that the salad came with thousand island dressing already on it. I have no problem with thousand island dressing, in fact I used to live on it as a kid, but given a choice I would have preferred ranch. For what it's worth, I'm not hard to please. Good food, decent prices, friendly atmosphere, and I'm happy. When I find such a place, I'll be back. I'll be back to Town House. read more

Instead when we began to order, my son asked the manager what the difference between the small and large boxes. Instead of saying "sure the difference is" he leaned in and said nothing. So my son repeated his question again and again and again. Then after he answered he walked away and told another girl to take our order. She was very nice about it and I could clearly tell it made her uncomfortable. So we asked if this was a normal thing and she said it was normal. The sweet tea didn't taste like tea. The burger wasn't fresh...it seem like it was sitting for a long time.

My Wife and I had their shrimp and oysters yesterday evening, big mistake. First and last time there for us. At least the place looked clean. My Wife had a bad gut ache, urge to vomit, and severe diarrhea afterwards. Should have known better than to eat the greasy seafood and fries. Double YUCK!!! Dr. Jim. Follow up. Two of the little blue pills stopped the diarrhea OK and she is a few pounds lighter, but an expensive and painful way to stay slim. read more

Wow, yelp finally let me down on this one... Driving back home up 95 this joint seemed to be the exact place I was looking for, but what a disappointment! I was expecting a drive-in/diner type environment, but instead what I got was a throw-back to the cheap, poorly-run local fast food joints of the 80s. Times have changed, but this place sure hasn't. If you prefer frozen french fries, frozen onion rings, and frozen hamburger patties, then by all means this should be your first stop. I feel really sorry for the locals and their lack of insisting on better food, since this place is obviously well liked by some people based on the high ratings here on yelp. I ordered a patty melt with "hand-cut" (based on the lettering on the menu board) onion rings - I have to call total BS on this though. The patty melt was served on a normal hamburger bun, not Texas Toast or some other kind of flat bread as is customary for about 99% of other places serving patty melts. The only thing distinguishing this from a normal cheeseburger was the grilled onions I guess. Regarding the onion rings, they were terrible! I cannot imagine how in the world they could have been hand cut and not from a freezer. They were uniform in size and had the same breaded coating you find in your local grocer's freezer isle if buying frozen onion rings there (not saying you should do that either). The wife had a turkey sandwich and (frozen) french fries. The fries were bland and there was very little turkey included on the sandwich. Seriously, even Subway gives you more meat on their 6-inch subs. The best thing we had was a side salad, which says a lot about what I thought of this place. The worst thing was the bill. All told, with two drinks added, this atrocity was over $20. If this came out to around $10 total, then maybe I wouldn't have been so critical, but at these prices, give me Burger King any day! The shrimp and flounder was delicious, plenty of food for 2 people. Although there was confusion on what my wife ordered we had to ask 20 minutes after I got my meal. I asked the rude server behind the counter and she stayed at first we didn't order a second dish. Then looking at receipt she said under her breath with back turned so I couldn't hear. The restaurant was full. It seems to be a popular spot for the locals. I had my order to go, but the plates that were served had large servings. I ordered the 3 piece Flounder dinner, because I heard about the large portions, and added a skewer of 10 Grilled Shrimp. The dinner came with fries, salad, and hush puppies, plus 3 1/2 pieces of fish. That was enough for me and my 2 kids, which included a 17 yr old boy! If you are traveling I95 and need a good place to stop, this is it. It is a little out of the way off of 95, but a nice place to have a sit down meal. Although this is touted as a "Greek" restaurant, it has more of a variety of "American" food ranging from chicken, hamburgers, salads, and sandwiches. It did have Gyros, which I had the Slovaki Gyro and my husband had the Slovaki dinner. It was excellent! We both thought the food was seasoned well and cooked to perfection. We both had Greek salad sides and thought the dressing was a little weird at first, but it turned out to be good as well. The $1.80 Baklava was a nice way to end our meal and well worth it. Town House has been a staple in Florence or many years. I have eaten at this place quite a few times over the years but have never got around to Yelping them. They cater quite often to the place I work and have found their food to always be pretty high quality. They pack really nice box lunches which include a choice of meats including hamburger steaks, grilled chicken, grilled shrimp, or fried pork chops. Baked potatoes, salad, and roll accompany each meat. They also have a wide selection of salads and even though I don't eat them most people rave about them that I work with. I have also been to the actual restaurant a few times for lunch. This place gets packed during the lunch time hours and finding a table can be a chore. I enjoy their cheeseburgers and was pleasantly surprised at how good their seafood dishes are. The fried shrimp and oysters were tasty even though I was a bit skeptical before ordering them. They also bill themselves as a Greek restaurant even though the menu isn't all that expansive in that area (they have gyros and souvlaki). Large selection of sandwiches which are usually all good. Never had a bad item from their pretty diverse menu. Service is always friendly and they really bend over backwards to keep their customers happy. I do not have a lot to say, except that this place is great. I hate salads and I love their salads. I would eat the original gyros every night if I could. The employees are not overly warming (meaning you won't be doted over the second you walk in the door), but they are polite and very honest. My order had never ever been messed up. I have no complaints whatsoever, even with my only con. I eat here 2-3 times per week, and it is a "must do" if you are near Florence. read more
