Whenever I'm in the area visiting from out of town, this is one of my go-to spots. The food is always good, and I've enjoyed several items on the menu over the years. Have lived here for decades and am just now trying this place. Upon entering, you immediately get a comfy, neighborhood bar vibe, despite the relatively modern aesthetic. Old fashioned- ummm, I'm not sure if this is how normally make their old- fashioneds or if my request for light syrup threw the bartender off, but my drink pretty much consisted of a shot of bourbon with an orange peel in it. I have noticed that some other establishments are less generous with their cocktail volume than others, so perhaps that is the standard here. Lobster crabcake sandwich - omg, do they have any salt left in the kitchen?? Perfect consistency and golden bun but the meat was practically inedible. I brought the issue to the manager's attention and he immediately took action, despite my insistence on paying for the meal. Stellar customer service! Never trust an establishment that refuses to give you an itemized receipt. The bartender working the night of March 24 goes off on me when I asked her for an itemized receipt. Yells at me and accuses me of not tipping 5 years ago. If I didn't tip its probably because she had an awful, entitled attitude. Dont trust this place. I stumbled across this bar one night when looking for something lowkey in the Alexandria area. I feel like I was robbed. I wanted to make this place my local pub I am from DC but have been living on the West End of Alexandria for three years now. I have always driven by this place, but never stopped then today my car was being repaired by my friend and I said hey why not it's Wednesday let me get some wings. TRASH! The Bartender was definitely nice and OK customer service but I literally ordered Buffalo wings with their shooters barbecue sauce in the side, a.k.a. glorified ketchup, and french fries with their cheese sauce. She clearly did not hear me order all this because they proceeded to only bring me wings with no sauce on them and two sauces on the side . The House made blue cheese tasted like Ken's ranch. I truly feelrobbed. I go to the bar for wings for the atmosphere and for the vibes. I know that I can buy my own 12 pack and make a much better 10 piece swing than most of these places are putting out nowadays, but it sucks when the bartender doesn't even hear what you order and they bring you a bunch of dry wings with no soul some basic House made blue cheese . I will definitely not be back again. If I could go get my money back, I would, but we know that's not how it works. It was the end of the week so their inventory was short and they still made do; when I ordered the sliders the bartender asked the kitchen to cut up some rolls because they were out of the bread usually used for them. I got the Signature Shooter Burger & my partner had the Half-Rack ribs. The burger was way over seasoned, it tasted like i bit into pure salt. i couldn't finish the burger so i stuck to my fries. The half-rack ribs were good but it was lacking in sauce and the meat portion was not worth the price for half rack ribs. My favorite thing was the fries, onion rings (on the burger) & the mac n' cheese. For 2 people we spent about $50. I stopped by shooter McGee's after being recommended by City Kitchen's manager because their kitchen was closed. It was late at night after taking my daughter to GetAir trampoline park nearby so I did not get to get a full experience. However, the experience I had was a good one! Nice staff, did a to-go order of the steak and cheese egg rolls, and the ribs dinner. Food came out very quickly (maybe 10 mins) and everything was delicious! We decided to stick around and near the bar, despite having a toddler - everyone was very nice and interested in her so it worked out lol.. I would for sure go back for a bite or a drink. Arrived around 6:30 pm on a Friday with my boyfriend and it was fairly empty but as we started eating the place filled up. I started with the french onion soup and it was delicious, 8/10. Better than most onion soups I've had before. Ratio of cheese, bread, onions, and broth was good and it was a decent sized portion. For my entree I got another appetizer because I wasn't too hungry. I got the shooters sliders, 5/10. My boyfriend tried a slider and said it was bland, tasted like "a burger you would have at a 4th of July cookout." 4.5 stars. The food focuses on pub staples but does them well. I've brought my parents here for dinner and brunch before and everyone's been happy with their meals. Service is consistently good. The bartenders are great at remembering names and usually address me on a first name basis when I walk in. But where they excel is their happy hour. I'm a sucker for burgers and wings, and on Mondays and Tuesdays (respectively) those are on special. They have an especially great assortment of both. There have been many nights where I've polished a dozen wings with a beer or two as my dinner. Come for dinner, but definitely come for happy hour. read more

I usually don't post about restaurant experiences because I rarely have a bad one. However, living in this era of blatant racism has compelled me to share for the first time, I experienced at this restaurant. My husband and I often dine at Shooter McGee's, where we celebrated our marriage shortly after saying "I do" at the Justice of the Peace almost nine years ago. It's our tradition to return to the same table every anniversary. Our experiences have always been wonderful until Valentine's Day. We made a reservation for 6:30 PM, and I was dressed and ready on time. Unfortunately, our special table was unavailable, a sign of the rude awakening to come. Our waitress was friendly and took our drink orders, then returned to take our meal orders. We chose their three-course special: a salad for me and crab bisque for my husband. I also ordered an extra appetizer, the steak and cheese egg rolls. But we waited--patiently, at first--for our appetizers. As we waited, I couldn't help but notice a couple of a different race, seated after us, receiving their burgers, which take longer to cook than our soup and salad. Other white couples ordered and received their food one by one while we sat there, still waiting. I finally caught our waitress's attention and expressed concern, mentioning how others who ordered after us were already enjoying their meals. I told her about our long-standing loyalty to the restaurant. She apologized and explained that the restaurant was overbooked. I calmly replied, "What does that have to do with us not receiving our appetizers while others who came after us had both their appetizers and entrees?" She promised to get her manager. When the manager arrived, I recounted my experience. Her nonchalance only fueled my frustration. While she apologized and offered to cover our appetizers and drinks, we had to wait longer for the food to arrive. When it finally did, my salad contained ingredients I had explicitly requested to be left out, and the soup was cold, soon after, the other appetizer arrived. At that point, I was done. I told the waitress we were leaving. She went to get the manager again, who returned with a check for food we hadn't received. She claimed she would cover it but insisted we pay for the drinks because we had consumed them. I was distraught, and as tears fell, my Davie knew we needed to go now. We paid the check and vowed never to return to the new "Racist Magee's." With nowhere else to go and every other restaurant booked, we settled for a sub shop. I had a chicken cheesesteak, and my husband ordered a steak and cheese. We went home, ate, and went to bed. I was emotionally drained and hurt by the experience, but I know this is only the beginning of our fight against racism. Only reason I found out about this place was because my car was being serviced nearby and I needed to get something to eat while I waited. It's a small, unassuming restaurant. They were playing classics like "Money Can't Buy Me Love" by The Beatles, and it was empty for 5pm on a Monday. I ordered the lobster crab cakes and got sautéed spinach and sweet potato fries instead of green beans and mashed potatoes. I never eat lobster or crab, but I decided to splurge and I'm glad I did!
