I love Georgetown and I love Clyde's. They've been a fixture of the neighborhood landscape since the 60s. I remember coming here for the first time with an ex-boyfriend back in the early 90s. Living in Pittsburgh meant lots of quick weekend roadtrips to DC for our gang of friends in our early 20s. Clyde's is absolutely old school Georgetown in a classic and vibrant way. Love the wood and green decor, tables with cane back chairs, glass ceiling, and option for al fresco dining. They've got ample indoor seating too. The outdoor vibe just reminds me of Paris. The indoor vibe with the wood, booths, and bar are just classic DC. One of the best places for brunch on Saturday or Sunday. Steak frites is A+. Love the French onion soup. French toast is A+. Cocktails and mocktails are through the roof. That brunch Bloody is A+. Great happy hour too. Incredibly good service. There are a few other locations but I've only ever been here and I can't recommend it enough. read more

It had been years since my last visit to Clyde's, and this was my first time at the Georgetown location. I arrived on a Saturday afternoon and was seated right away. The restaurant is much larger than I expected, and I was seated in a spacious booth. My waiter was young, kind, and very knowledgeable about the menu. He had some great recommendations, which came in handy when I was stuck deciding between appetizers. He suggested the fried zucchini, and I'm so glad I listened. It was delicious. definitely a 10/10. For my entrée, I ordered the crab cake with fries and a small side of coleslaw. Despite its smaller size, the crab cake was surprisingly good. It had more crab than filling, which is exactly how I like my crab cakes. I just wish the portion had been a little bigger. The fries were pretty standard. nothing particularly memorable. and unfortunately, I didn't care for the coleslaw at all. By the time my entrée arrived, the restaurant had gotten much more crowded, but it remained surprisingly quiet. I really appreciated that because it made the experience feel relaxed and comfortable. My friend ordered the fish with purple potatoes and green beans, and the fish was a 10/10. It was really good, and the sauce it came with was absolutely delicious. My only complaint was that I wished the vegetable portions were a little larger. Overall, the experience reminded me that I need to visit Clyde's more often. I'll definitely be back, although I'll probably make my next visit to the Gallery Place Chinatown location. read more

I happened to go here the next day after a dinner at the Hamilton. I didn't realize they are the same restaurant chain and similar menu. The menu selection was just meh. I went with a fried chicken rice bowl which was pretty good. We had a nice time sitting on the patio, but there are so many more interesting places around to eat in! read more

A packed place on the weekend but worth the wait. It can be quite busy during brunch/lunch hours but the service is efficient and attentive. The restaurant and restroom areas were very clean. I think $17 for the classic burger with fries is a good deal for Georgetown. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area. read more

As I strolled through the beautiful street of Georgetown I stumbled upon this place as I as making my shopping rounds. I had built up an appetite between flying into the city and cardio shopping so food was essential at this point. The outside exterior reminded me of pubs in Ireland. Dimly lit, incredibly romantic vibes so I decided why not try it. I made my way in and was instantly greeted by the hostess. Even though the restaurant was quite busy I was seated right away. As I got relaxed at my table I had a chance to take in the decor. Intricately decorated pictures, hung all around the restaurant that gave it such a nostalgic feel. I reviewed the menu and decided on my go to fave a Caesar salad with salmon and french fries because balance is essential right? My food arrived and the salmon was absolutely delicious. The salad was perfectly made with just the right amount of Parmesan cheese and Caesar dressing and the french fries I don't know if they were dipped in truffle sauce, but they were so delicious. I attempted to eat my whole plate however, I could not do so. The food was so rich and tasty. It easily filled me up. Would've loved about this place was that I was a solo diner and it wasn't awkward at all. The staff was super attentive. Food was great and the atmosphere was ideal to enjoy a solo meal, but that doesn't take away coming with friends or being on a date. It's nice to find places where you can go and solo dine and have a great time. So, we decided to walk over to Clyde's and give them a shot after making perfume at Olfactory NYC. It was a really nice day out, so we committed to sitting outside. Unfortunately, with the decision to sit outside, the hostess temporarily forgot about us which added a little bit more time to our wait. Once we were seated, we selected the hummus as our appetizer, which was okay. I then desired something light, which led me to the grilled chicken salad. The grilled chicken salad was truly paired well with all of the veggies etc making me an immediate fan of this salad. I frequently have been coming here for years and I sincerely love Clyde's Georgetown with all my heart. In regard to both the food and ambiance, the wood bar is always a wonderful place to drink and eat, and the food has always been wonderful. But... there is this new bartender Dom who engaged in conversation with other guests while forgetting my drink until making awkward contact. I was displeased by this new bartender, as I don't consider myself a regular, however I do frequent the place and receive much better service than I did this evening. Usually, I dine with Kaitlyn at the bar and each experience with her and other staff, has been excellent. Dom on the other hand, wasn't my ideal experience. read more

Iconic and classy bar/restaurant in the heart of Georgetown with deep wood accents, exposed brick and cool decor. We were seated in the back near the fireplace. Though crowded the dining area still felt roomy but cozy. We ate here for brunch; menu had both breakfast and lunch style items. My companion had the French toast (thick bread with honeycrisp apple compote and whipped cream). He enjoyed it. I had the autumn market salad. It had several different greens, apples, Asian pears, cheese, walnuts and a vinaigrette dressing. It's filling yet light. Service was excellent. We were genuinely excited to finally try Clyde's in Georgetown, especially since it's a longtime favorite of someone in our group. We visited mid-afternoon on a Saturday and were seated in the two front booths to accommodate our party size. Unfortunately, the experience started off shaky and never really recovered. Our server, Kareem, appeared overwhelmed and disorganized from the beginning. Early in the meal, he spilled water directly into my lap. Accidents absolutely happen in restaurants, and most people understand that, but what mattered here was the lack of follow-up. I spent the remainder of the meal with the front of my pants soaked and there was no meaningful acknowledgment, apology beyond the moment, or attempt to make the situation right. Service continued to be inattentive throughout the meal. Drinks were never refilled (unless finally asked), and once our food was dropped off, it felt like we were largely forgotten unless we flagged someone down. For a restaurant with Clyde's reputation, that level of hospitality was surprising. We ordered the pretzel, Oyster Rockefeller, burgers, French toast, asparagus, and the fried trout. The food was decent overall and visually appealing, but nearly every dish felt underseasoned, as though salt and pepper had been left out of the process entirely. Nothing was bad, but very little stood out. One of the biggest issues was the seating arrangement near the entrance. Because we were placed in the front booths, guests waiting for tables were clustered directly around us for much of the meal. People were standing extremely close to our table, hovering in our dining space, and we had to ask multiple individuals to move so we could eat comfortably. That is more of a management/layout issue than a guest issue, and it noticeably impacted the experience. I understand gratuity may be included or expected with larger parties, but service should still reflect care and attentiveness. At times, it felt like the incentive to provide that level of effort simply wasn't there. I can see why Clyde's has loyal fans, and perhaps this was an off day, but between inattentive service, the uncomfortable front seating setup, and food that was just average, this visit did not live up to expectations. read more

Clyde's in Georgetown is my go-to when I'm in the area. Whether it's for a drink and appetizer or dinner, it never disappoints. My group had a round of Hugo Spritz's and the Crab and Artichoke dip to start (not pictured because everyone dug into it so quickly). The grilled steak salad is always a favorite in my group. The steak is cooked perfectly and the salad is loaded with delicious pickled onions. I asked my server about the Fried Chicken Rice bowl and she said it is a favorite among the staff, so I gave it a go and it was just as she said. So many different flavors that paired perfectly. The chicken Farro salad was also very refreshing and loaded with chicken. It is crowded on a Saturday, but even with bags from shopping we had plenty of space. read more

Walking around Georgetown I stopped in this place to give my feet a rest. Sat at the rear bar counter and ordered a pretzel to start off with and a garden salad. The pretzel was delicious and the dipping sauce was tasty. I rarely eat a whole pretzel, but this one had no chance. Stopped in here for lunch while exploring the shops and it didn't disappoint. When you walk in it is small, but has the charm you would expect from a seafood/American restaurant near the water. It was very quaint. We decided to sit outside, as it was a beautiful day. They had plenty of outdoor seating, which was comfortable and perfect for us. The service was amazing. Our waitress was kind, funny, accommodating, took her time offering advice on dishes and providing her opinions. She was upbeat and seemed more than happy to serve us. She was fantastic! The food also did not disappoint. I got the steak salad, medium rare, with no blue cheese. The flavors were perfect together and it was so yummy! The steak was a little overcooked, but the flavor on it was amazing and it ended up not bothering me at all! I also got the clam chowder and it was equally delicious. The clams were a tad chewy, but it still had great flavor. It was definitely a treat and I would try it again! read more

We chose Clyde's of Georgetown for our son's graduation dinner, and unfortunately, the food was the biggest disappointment of an otherwise wonderful day. There were 14 of us, and the only meals that seemed reasonably enjoyable were the burgers and fries--and even those came with complaints that the burgers were dry. I can honestly say that every guest in our party felt the food lacked flavor. We ordered a variety of dishes, including the salmon, herb-crusted chicken, chicken Parmesan, and crab cakes, and each one was underwhelming. The crab cakes were surprisingly small for the price, the chicken Parmesan pasta had an odd texture, and the herb-crusted chicken was dry. Even the sides, including the cucumbers and peaches, were bland and forgettable. Thankfully, our son's graduation celebration was a success, and we made wonderful memories with family. However, if I had known the food would be this disappointing, I would have chosen a different restaurant for such an important occasion. read more

I was craving Clyde's bacon cheeseburger. Clyde's in Reston town center vanished...I think 2 years ago. Clyde's of Tysons was taken over by the county they took the land. Imminent domain I guess. So I planned for Clyde's of Georgetown. I made a reservation for 6:30 PM. It's a several block walk from Foggy Bottom Metro Stop. It was a nice day so the trip was nice. Regular crap with metro, but that's in another post. I arrive a bit early around 6:10 and I'm seated at a small table toward the back of the restaurant. It's Saturday and the place is packed. I wait for about 15 minutes and decide to grab a seat at the bar. No service, not even water at my table. So I sit down and the bar maid comes over and gives me a menu and asks what I'm drinking. I answer Yuengling on tap. I thought about the fish fry the woman to my right was having, big piece of fish and fries...but stayed with my original craving bacon cheeseburger. The maid returns with my beer and I order the burger, medium well, no tomato. I don't do oysters but Clyde's has an oyster bar off the back bar in the restaurant. Lots of different varieties (?) of oysters to enjoy if you like oysters. The beer is gone so I order another. It's going down nice...warm day for September. Shortly thereafter the burger and fries arrives. Pretty quick for as busy as the restaurant is. I took the tomato slice off, no big deal. Burger is cooked as ordered, the French fries are hot and crispy. This is a slice of heaven. People are coming and going from the bar and the bar staff is very accommodating. I miss Clyde's of Tyson's. Sad to see them go to government bureaucracy. Anyway, the burger and fries are gone, beer is finished and I get my check. Quick service and quality food. Add cold beer and it's a great place to grab a bite and a brew. Definitely will be back sometime soon. One final note, they cancelled my reservation, I found out in the email. I guess it's because I left the table... ok that's fine. Next time I'll grab a seat at the bar and not bother with the reservation. read more

Stopped into Clyde's Georgetown on Labor Day with a friend and had such a great time! Even though it was packed, we got seated at the bar right away and were greeted with friendly, attentive service. The Clyde Bloody Mary was perfection--just the right kick. We shared the Elote Loco, which was flavorful and fun, then I went for my favorite turkey sandwich (always fresh, perfectly toasted bread, avocado + sprouts = amazing). My friend had the Trout Parmesan--huge portion and he barely said a word because he was too busy loving it. Nice drink options too--the rosé was lovely and the draft list had solid picks (Allagash White for my friend). Finished with crème brûlée and it was spot on. Great food, great service, great vibe. This place made my DC trip memorable. I came here while visiting college campuses. I love crab cakes and theirs were great. Granted, I wasn't actually in Baltimore but they did the trick. The sliders. And a few other things but also a few drinks so I can't remember those without looking at the menu. I've never had a complaint though.
