Absolutely wonderful!!! I tried another CSA - no comparison. You can pick which drop-off location works best for you, it's organic produce and it's quality produce. I like they give you a sheet that lists what you have received, how to maintain and prepare some of it too. This is my first year trying it, after my friend recommended it. So glad I did this. The only drawback is you can't select the box contents, but I look as it as a challenge to eat something new. read more

2013 and it's still great. I look forward to Friday. It's like Christmas every week, if my grandparents were organic farmers and only gave boxes of in season produce as gifts. We were members of Shooting Star for the 2013 growing season. Our drop site was just four doors down at my neighbor's house so it was a nice little adventure for my daughter and I each Friday to go get our box and discover what deliciousness awaited us. I first met Matt at the Hayward Farmer's market when my (now) husband and I first got serious. We went to markets every Saturday and we struck up a conversation with Matt because his farm was in our hometown. I've had a special place in my heart for this farm and their padron peppers ever since. When we finally got to a place where we could afford $100/mo. on organic produce, we made the leap because it was what worked best for our family. I only wish that we would have gotten some of the more heirloom varieties that I think the boxes with Tuesday pick ups got. We typically got the more "normal" tomato and eggplant varieties. I love weird sh*t! The quality of the produce was never anything but phenomenal and almost always beautiful. Worth every single penny. I love this CSA and hope that they will eventually operate year-round. I am with another CSA now that is very good and I'm enjoying, but I also can't wait until May to start taking those short walks with my daughter again. Of the three CSAs I've been a member to, this is my favorite. I love that it's in my backyard and has a special place in my own personal love story. Thanks for being so wonderful, Shooting Star!! PS. We know the farm from the stand on the Vacaville farmers market and decided to get the CSA box. We have been super happy with it. Our pickup spot in Oakland is in easy reach and invites us to get out to enjoy the evening and combine it with a walk. We've been receiving their boxes for more than 3 months and it's been always high quality, super fresh and flavorful. It's been the perfect amount for a busy couple and we cook at least four times a week average. I personally enjoy to be surprised by the veggies and sometimes fruits each week. What we like the best is that we don't stress anymore over what veggies to buy in the store! And it makes us creative in the kitchen. read more

Our family has been a Shooting Star CSA member since the very first year Matt and Lily started their farm. We love this CSA! Their produce is local and organic and delicious! I look forward to the start of the season and feel so sad when the season ends. We are always the first to reserve our spot for the following year. Initially we were a little reluctant to join because you don't get to choose the box contents. However, what has happened instead is that we have tried and enjoyed veggies we had never tried before (kale, padron peppers) and now we are huge fans of everything they send us. It has all been high quality in appearance and especially taste. The corn and tomatoes are amazing. Really everything has been delicious... I love getting the Facebook post the day before so we know what veggies and fruits to expect. We have changed how we plan our meals and now have menus focused around the delicious produce we get. My family is eating and enjoying more vegetables than ever before. The newsletter that comes with our box has some delicious recipes and always tells us a little bit about the vegetables and the farm. These folks were at the Albany Farmers' Market yesterday. I bought two small squash to have w/ dinner, one a light green mottled zucchini, the other a yellow crookneck w/ a green tip at the blossom end. I cut them up and steamed them w/ a little ground pepper and salt and they were delicious, w/ a garden freshness you just don't find in store bought squash. I will look for their stand next week and see what else appeals to me. read more

I have received their box for several months now. Their produce is outstanding. It is always fresh, extremely tasty and delivered just around the corner. The selection vary widely. I have tried three other boxes over the years. This one is the best, by far. Taste, freshness, variation, shooting star's box is the best and the price is more than competitive. I can't wait for Tuesday to come around when I can pick up a new box. I love them. read more

I was a member for two years and just signed up for the 2015 season. It's ridiculous how wonderful this produce is. The best tomatoes I've ever tasted. They give you a great variety of food so you really only need to pick up protein and starch at the store to have a full meal. If you like to cook, it's extremely cost-effective. I also love that they include garlic and onions regularly, as well as greens and herbs. It's a great way to experience seasonal produce and, cheesy as it sounds, it makes me feel "in tune" with the seasons. I love having fresh corn, tomatoes and cilantro in summer and butternut squash and yams in the winter. Can't say enough good things -- if you like to cook, this CSA offers amazing value and quality. read more

It really doesn't get much better than Shooting Star CSA. The produce is such amazing quality and they offer a nice variety. The boxes are very reasonably priced. I only wish they offered a full year subscription and not seasonal. read more
