Wow. This store is simply amazing. They have an vast selection of items: hot sauce, tinned meat and fish, so many spices! Rose water, vinegars, mustards, all kinds of beans/legumes. Every time I go, I get almost giddy when I see something I hadn't seen before. There is a meat counter along the entire back wall that seems to offer everything. I give the produce section only four stars, because sometimes it's not the freshest. Yet again, the selection is impressive. The store is organized and clean, but you need to go a few times before you get a clue where to look for different stuff. For example, dried beans appear on several aisles, so it's sorta like a treasure hunt. I suggest you check it out if you need something specific and random, or when you don't want to go to big-brand shop. Enjoy! read more

To be honest, i never paid much attention to to the place. I just drove past assuming it was a taqueria. I rarely buy turkey wings, so i don't really have a 'go to' spot to purchase them. My aunt suggested Shop Rite. She said grandma shopped there for many many years back in the day. It's a small grocery store/meat market. We made a bee line to the back of the store to the butchers area. Their meat looks incredibly fresh! Impressive! They have fresh meats as well as smoked meats. They sell fresh seafood as well. You simply pull a number and wait to be called. A bonus about Shop Rite, is that they sell spices and seasonings geared toward Soul Food cooking. Stuff you would never find at a Safeway. I would have given this place 5 stars. I took away a star due to the grocery prices being expensive. I will say, the meat prices are good! Very Reasonably priced! Went here because I heard they have halal meat and I wanted lamb, WOW!!! Found lamb and much much more!! Halal meat is front side of store near produce not the big meat counter in the back tho that looked good also. Tons of other middle eastern items like baklava, nuts, halva, beans, oil, fresh pita and flatbread, lots of spices... busy parking lot and I see why.. Its def a hood store but very well stocked with north african and mexican products.. I will be back!! read more

Shop Rite's entry is thru the smoke store on the right side or a doorway on the left side. in this area, there's no lucky's, safeway, whole foods, raley's nor any majors. Foodco exists on the edges of Oaktown before MacArthur becomes San Leandro. drug stores like Walgreens are common. Shop RIte is typical of groceries in this area, there's a meat department in the rear. a counter in front, a smoke shop with it's own sales people. a Lucky Food Express that isn't with unseen staff/patrons. small can beers not sold here. only pints & bigger. stacking is sporadic. placed in wrong area. stella artois (2.28) was the classiest beer seen. though there's a lot of stuff here, i only liked the beer. read more

My first time here and i loooove the different kinds of meat available to purchase. I can buy thick short ribs for cheaper than usual, and cut thin enough for bbq. They also have smoked ham hocks, smoked turkey wings etc. i have yet to explore the whole place but i definitely will come back for short ribs. read more

This community market comes in handy for virtually anything you may need on a whim. They carry a diverse range of ethnic food products, fresh meats, produce, and whatever else you can think of. I don't really care for the smell of meat but it's a meat market directly in the back so that's expected. Before you travel out of your area for a specialty item, give this place a visit first. They may have exactly what you need and more :) Best of all, the staff has been nothing but friendly and kind to me. read more

Good store. A complete inventory at reasonable prices. Very good vegetable section. The butcher counter is run separately, well staffed and fresh meat, good selection of meat for southern taste. I have been there as recent as last month ,the smell isn't as bad as before ,they have done some changes to the front end of the store ,if feels more cleaner ! the hamburger meat at the butcher block ,it's a hit or miss ,sometimes they have too much fat in the hamburger More like 40/60 the quality of your food is not as good when you use that hamburger meat By the time you drain all the fat out you have not much meat, But other than that I will continue to shop here but I'll skip on their hamburger meat! read more

The prices are pretty high especially cereal. But produce prices are pretty good. The outside of the store is always dirty, they also don't have a bike rack for people with bikes. People just hang outside of the store drink alcohol, you name it. Customer service is ok. Its a alright store with ok prices. Small, independent grocery store serving the Foothill & Seminary neighborhoods. They have about 12 double aisles of food. It's WAY bigger than the Safeway store on Redwood Dr. LARGE meat department and a decent produce department. The produce is always very fresh looking. This is an older store so it doesn't have many varieties of brands outside of the Kraft, Pepsi/Coke, Dole, General Mills, etc. Look, you're not going to find any Tom's of Burt's Bees products here but you can get almost anything else. This is NOT a corner grocery store, it's a full size grocer. This place is never too busy even when it's busy. The manager and check out clerks are always extremely helpful and friendly. I live within walking distance and shop here once a week. read more

This place is mucho mejor than Gazzali's...the prices are fair, and it's got a decent produce section and a very large carneceria. Although you won't find anything 'artisan' or 'organic', I'd rather buy my Sazon Goya and grits at a reasonable price any day! Also, they have a hot food counter where they serve $1 tacos that are far better than $1 tacos should be (al pastor!) They also have like $2.50 fried chicken and fish. and the lady who was working there was so nice that it totally makes the trip worth it. AND they accept debit without sticking you with a bogus card charge, although they do charge like 40 cents for what they called 'ATM'. But you can get cash back with your purchase, again without a BS charge, which is way more than you can say for most stores around here. I know where I'm going from now on...Gazzali's is alright in a pinch; call me whatever, but I'm not really feeling buying my groceries at a place that smells like chicken-fried cake! read more

Store has new ownership and staff have always been friendly. I go mainly for produce, occasional purchase of meat, dairy etc. it's a nice neighborhood mom and pop kind of grocery store. You can often find things grandma used that Safeway/lucky do not sale. Parking ok accept for Sundays when the church uses part of it, which is why I gave it 4 stars. read more
