My dad also lived in Houston and we'd often do shopping or eating at the mall. My daughter (who is now 30) loved (& still does) skating at the ice rink during the holidays. It's a magically fun experience. The Galleria is always incredibly decorated for the holidays. I still get to Houston 1-2 times a year and always enjoy visiting The Galleria. The Galleria itself has not only the ice rink but office space, two hotels, lots of places to eat, and shopping. The retail offerings range from shops like H&M, Macy's, and Nordstrom to high-end luxury shops like Gucci & Chanel. We were there just a few months ago and it was just as fun and exciting as my first visit! Gang, there are so many stores here. Like crazy amounts (a few hundred). It's very large and easy to navigate and of course gets extremely busy during peak times. A must-visit for locals and tourists alike.

Even without scoring any purchases, the Houston Galleria remains an impressive destination. The moment you step inside, you experience bright lights, multiple levels of stores, and a steady stream of shoppers that create an energetic, bustling atmosphere. Beyond shopping, the mall offers entertainment options such as its iconic indoor ice-skating rink, making it easy to spend an entire day there. One of the Galleria's biggest strengths is its variety. Luxury retailers like Chanel and Louis Vuitton share space with more accessible brands such as Banana Republic and American Eagle, offering something for nearly every budget and style. Whether you're on a focused shopping mission or simply window-shopping, there's plenty to explore...even if, in our case, we left empty-handed. The dining options are equally diverse, ranging from food-court favorites to sit-down restaurants like The Cheesecake Factory and Shake Shack to Chic-fil-a. While we didn't find the bargains we were hoping for, our fast-and-furious shopping adventure was filled with laughter and great conversation, and the kind of fun that comes from spending time with good friends. But Houston, we need to talk about bathrooms. First, the good. Rice Village is a really cool shopping area. There's a great mix of stores, restaurants, coffee, and other places, and you can easily spend a few hours walking around. It's busy, lively, and definitely worth visiting. Parking, however, is congested and annoying. There are paid lots around the area, but when it's busy, be prepared to hunt for a spot and then walk. Honestly, that part doesn't bother me that much. It's a popular shopping district. I get it. What I don't get is the almost complete lack of accessible public bathrooms. You have an area filled with stores that would happily let you spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars, but apparently asking for somewhere to pee is a bridge too far. Maybe businesses are worried about people coming in just to use their bathrooms. I understand there are legitimate issues businesses have to deal with. But there has to be some middle ground where the person buying expensive pants can also pee when nature calls. Pro tip: Starbucks has a bathroom. Of course, it was locked, there was a line, and you needed a code. At that point, finding a bathroom in Rice Village started feeling like a side quest. When you're standing in a shopping district with a parking lot full of $100,000-plus vehicles, surrounded by high-end stores and restaurants, and everyone is apparently on a scavenger hunt for a toilet, something has gone terribly wrong. Come on, Houston. Do better. Still loved Rice Village. Still recommend going. Great shopping, great food, and a fun place to spend an afternoon. Just use the bathroom before you get there.

Meyerland has become a regular destination for us even though it's a little bit low rent and a little bit rough around here, however this new plaza looks shiny and new and posh. It's an adaptation of the old plaza, but a very good one. There are some great new stores, and it's been remodeled, and there's a lot of good reasons to come here, such as the Ross and especially the JoAnn which Barbi loves. Not owned by Russ Meyer or Quag Meyer.

It's an excellent place to grab a bite or take care of errands during the week, featuring great lunch staples like Salata, Leaf & Grain, and Doozo's Dumplings. They also have an awesome tech-infused mini-golf spot called Puttshack and a GNC, making it a really solid mix of quick dining, entertainment, and everyday essentials.

This is kind of a rundown mall which is massive and has lots of space and some older buildings and then some newer buildings. I like it but also I don't like it, and it definitely reminds me of an era gone by. Service here isn't too bad, such as at the popular Mexican restaurant and at the chain pharmacy - the Walgreens is open later than most. You can find some pretty good stuff here and pretty typical strip mall stuff.

Plaza 3, 4, and 5 are connected through concourse with a food court. It gets pretty busy around lunch since that's when everyone comes down to get lunch. There is Burger-chan, Feges BBQ, Cilantro, Alonti, Rice Box, and etc. It's also connected to the Double Tree Hilton Hotel with a Starbucks. Parking is a bit tricky, but just follow the signs for visitors parking -$2 per hour. The building might seem confusing if you don't work here, but most of the buildings are connected or there is short-cut to get to them. On days with good weather, eating outside feels great with overlooking the fountains. They have plenty of outdoor tables near building 8 and 9.

The building itself has a large, open industrial style interior with plenty of natural light, which gives the space a distinctive feel. There is a lot of room to walk around and explore and since it wasn't particularly busy during our visit, we were able to take our time looking through everything without feeling rushed. There weren't any events happening while we were there, so the overall atmosphere was fairly quiet. I could see the appeal of coming back when there is an event happening, as I imagine the space has a much livelier energy when it's being used for its full range of activities. We primarily went to check out the POST Market, which has a food court style setup with different cuisines and food options. (I'll be reviewing each of the places we tried separately.) The selection was varied, although I wouldn't describe it as particularly extensive. Unfortunately, the food experiences we had were consistently overpriced and underwhelming, which made the overall trip feel fairly uneventful. This was probably one of the more disappointing aspects of the visit. Considering the market wasn't particularly busy when we went, I was surprised by how many tables were sticky or visibly dirty. The washrooms were also in fairly rough shape and could have used more attention. The condition of the common areas was noticeably below what I would have expected from a venue of this size. Parking was convenient and free for the first hour, with charges of $6 applying after that. Overall, POST Houston was a pretty average experience for me. The history and character of the building, along with its open industrial design and natural light, are what stood out most positively. Based on our experience, I wouldn't make a trip back specifically for the POST Market. That said, I'd be interested in coming back for an event to see how different the atmosphere is when the space is busier and there is more happening. Hopefully, more businesses continue to move into the space as well, giving people more options for shopping and dining and creating a livelier overall experience.
