I enjoyed my first golf outing in a very long time. The clubs I rented were decent, and the staff waited for us as we finished up our round of 9 holes as the sun was setting. The course has some water hazards and sand traps. It is flat since it is at the edge of the bay. Outside of the immediate fairways the grounds were not good, but I shouldn't have been off in the weeds anyway. read more

I was surprised at how bad the greens were after they were aerated on 9/28. The pro shop told us that the greens were aerated but they didn't warn us that there would be an inch of sand on top of the greens. The greens were completely unplayable....very disappointing. It looked like a sand trap had replaced the greens! I was even more surprised when I found out from my brother-in-law who played about 2 weeks after the aeration that the greens were still in bad shape. Why would a reputable golf course allow people to play on a course in such disrepair and also charge full price? Perhaps one possible reason is because the course is run by the City of Mountain View. When I called up the course manager, he told me that's just the way it is. Maybe this is why Mountain View is losing money on this course. Mountain View should outsource the operation of this course to a private company that knows how to maintain the course and provide good customer service. As a Mountain View resident, I'm disappointed and embarrassed. Go elsewhere if you want a well-maintained course! read more

I played this course last weekend. The greens are very bumpy and slow, making putting somewhat silly. The fairways have a lot of dead grass and hard spots, apparently from salt in their watering system (they say they are fixing this). They replaced sand in several bunkers, but many are still so hard that the ball rolls in and out of them -- it's more like hard dirt. They say they are working on that and repairing drainage, also. And there's still a lot of bird scat there. So I'd say if they could fix their greens to roll smooth, and then get some grass on the fairways, it would be a very nice, playable course. Extra credit for getting sand in the bunkers and chasing away those small black coots, which leave a runny, gooey mess. read more

Shoreline has suffered quite a bit since the change of management last year. They got rid of the old (expensive) green crew, and the replacements have been really struggling to keep the course in playable shape. That's a shame, because it's quite a good layout and could be a nice course. In the past, the greens were the biggest problem here. They are always very soft and bumpy. If they would roll the greens and quicken them up a bit, it would make a world of difference for the course. WIth the new crew, the greens are still soft, perhaps even worse than before. But, now the fairways are in bad condition with many dead spots and failed attempts at re-sodding. The other major problem here is the slow pace of play. They stuff too many golfers on the course and few of the rangers do anything to encourage/enforce pace of play. A big contributing factor to this is all the "members" there. They sell annual memberships, which a lot of people have taken advantage of, especially a lot of very slow seniors, and then they play as much as they can. The result is that pace of play is terrible (and I can't imagine they're making much money from those memberships). read more

The greens were in good condition but there was no map on the scorecard and it was difficult to tell where the green are located on the longer holes. Some fairways are covered in geese and goose droppings. I did not like the driving range at all but the practice greens were good. It was windy when I was there and I did not like that. On a hot or cold day, I expect the wind will make the course unpleasant. I doubt that I will play there again. read more

I've been playing this course for almost 20 years. It is probably one of the better public courses in this area. I have had many great memories around the course. The last couple of rounds in the last two months, however, were beyond atrocious. The pace of playing has been so slow and it's due to a couple parents with young kids, who have absolutely no business of playing in the regular golf course. Gosh, you need basic golfing etiquette to play with other people, but these folks don't care at all even when 3 teams behind them are backed up waiting in the previous tee box. (Parents, please teach your children the basic golfing manner before taking them to golf courses.) To make matters worse, the course marshall absolutely did nothing. I've already complained through the course survey, but nothing got better. Today, I fed up so much and left after 9 holes (and two of my playing partners left, too). You need to communicate clearly to parents with young kids on the expected pace of play. Can you please do something? read more

I have been a member of the Shoreline Seniors for years always paying my dues on time and spending my money at the course. I inquired about a small donation for my daughters school, and was blew off like I had the plague.. In short I was told the school is not in Mountain View,so take a hike.. Now that is a great for our children and grandchilden. Government has creeped into the lowest level and forsaked our schools.. Just an OK golf course. Nothing special but it is fun to play with water and big traps. Can be very challenging when the wind kicks up. Fun because both par 5s on front 9 are reachable. Cut the corner on 9. Nice area and good people. 3 stars but look for deals on green fees. Nice range though. read more

We had a charity tournament there It was a Shotgun at 8:00am with 60 people. When we arrived the restaurant does not open until 7:30 not enough time to eat before tee off. My group only had 3 people even with us on the foursome in front of us the whole day the marshals dogged us the whole time saying we need to hurry up because there is another tournament scheduled so they may have to take you off the course. One time it was three times on one hole. With four holes left here comes another marshal again telling us to hurry because they have another tournament and again saying they may have to take us off the course, again we were not separated from the groups in front of us And had 4 holes to play, At that point me had been on the course for 3:15 Minutes with only four holes to go, We certainly would have been done before the 4 hours 30 minutes that is normal playing eighteen holes Unfortunately there was a concert at Shoreline also so they had Boom Boom Booming all day long getting ready for their concert later that night. The course was not in good shape at all the removed all of the water from the course just holes were the water was, fairways spotty, hardpan, crabgrass, Bare spot and some real fairway . Although the greens were in good shape that is not all it takes to have a golf course that is worth playing. If you want to enjoy a round of 4:30 hours find another golf course read more

I play a lot of golf. All over Santa Clara County, Santa Cruz and Monterey. I've played Shoreline a number of times but it has never been a great experience. This last time was the very worst. I was lured there by one of those specials....$21.50 with cart. I wanted to play the markers....the marshal stopped me and said I had to play the tees. Give me a break. I complied but that's the way the round started. It was a Monday...right....but it was slow. Really slow. Then we ran into golfers that had manners gleaned from a biker bar. Altogether...it was a horrid experience. I will never play this course again....For free! Tomorrow....I'm going to Delavega, or Aptos Seascape to wipe this bad experience off my mind. It defeats me as to why this course calls itself a 'Links' course! It has as much in common with a links course than Gleneagles does ... with the exception of some more water that is! For example, on a true links course, you hit the ball 200 yards and it runs another 50-60 yards ... here ... you hit the ball .... it plugs! That said, the course looks a bit 'tired' and those bloody geese things are a real pest. The overall set up/configuration of the course can be confusing to newcomers, especially the distance between some greens/tees. The staff in the pro-shop are really friendly & helpful so no problems asking for or receiving good advice. The Big scots marshall guy (John I think his name is) aint long in tellin you to 'pick it up' if you're slowing up, and he dont accept no back-chat either!!!!! ..... you have been warned! read more

Reasonably priced (for the area) muni. Nice practice area with large putting green and a short game practice area. Range uses matts during the week and grass on weekends. Very consistent winds whip up in the afternoons (notice the sailboarders in the lake and bay.. that's why they are here) which adds an interesting dimension. The 3 water-carry par 3's get really interesting when the wind is whipping. As others mentioned, there are many geese, ducks, and coots which leave crap all over the place. Pace of play is quite slow on the weekends, like most munis in the area. read more

Very unpleasant experience with the management at this practice facility. On one early evening, after I finished hitting the last ball in the bucket, I had the urge to hit one more ball because I felt I almost got the jist of the right swing. I saw two balls right in front of me, so I simply pick them up and put them on the mat and was ready to hit them. Suddently, this guy came over and asked me where did I get those two balls. I told him I picked them up from the area in front of me. He then give me a very pist off look and picked up those two balls and threw them back onto the range. He then told me, 'next time, purchase the balls from the machine.' I know what I did was not right, but instead of just telling me that, he actually pick up the balls and throw them back. Wow, what a way to treat your paying customers. I practice on their range frequently and have always been buying balls from the machine, also play on the course sometimes. I don't think I'll be going back again..... read more

The expensive green fees and horrible service are why I am not coming back here. In addition, the course conditions are not well-maintained, which is mainly because there are pieces of duck poop everywhere. The practice facilities which include a range, chipping area and bunker space are alright and the restaurant is decent for the prices. Also, the tee boxes on the course are not even and have a weird, spongy texture that makes putting tees on difficult. Lastly, the service is not good. Specifically, they don't really know what they're doing and the manager, Carol puts on a mean, unpleasant face towards the customers. Overall, this course is a waste of money and I recommend not going here because of the bad course layout and conditions. FYI. The smell of shoreline is also not appealing. Since it was built on a dump, it smells like one, staining all my clothes of poop and sewage. That is another downside to this course. read more

Please hire a full time maintenance worker that's in charge of blowing off geese crap on the golf course. I'm tired of stepping in poop 75% of my round. Beside animal poo, the fairways are blotchy and greens are not smooth, quite bumpy, and slow. They have a full range however its tough going there in the afternoon because your hitting directly into the sunlight. They have a decent practice chipping and green area. Its tough to get a decent morning tee time if your not a mountain view resident and requires a CC to hold your tee times. This course is not in my monthly rotation. read more

Situated in Mountain View, right next to Google and the Amphitheater, Shoreline Golf LInks is a good, challenging track for all golfers. The practice facilities are great, with a couple decent size putting and chipping areas. The range itself is grass which is always a plus as many courses opt for mats. As for the course itself, there are a few tees to select from so that any golfer of varying skill can play. Being a course next to the bay, the wind can pick up creating a course that may be harder than what it is. There are a few holes where the lakes and water come into play, such as the first hole. One thing to note is the par 3's can be fairly challenging, with a couple that come to mind, where it's mostly carry over water. Even playing from the the shorter tees such as the whites, a sub 140 yard shot coupled with the wind and a tucked pin in front a bunker can be very difficult. The greens are nicely size, with many being multi tiered. When I played, the greens speeds were on the slower side, but were in good conditions. While it wasn't such a huge deal, and I'm guessing this applies to many South Bay course, the birds can leave a mess. While not as bad as some other courses, it's annoying. Overall, for the price, practice facilities and views, Shore Line Links is a good value course and recommended to play. If anything, you can see Google and day dream about how awesome it would be to have a job there. read more

Competitive twilight and super twilight rates, especially if you are a Mountain View resident. More expensive on the weekends. The front nine and back nine were created by different designers, so you don't have repetition, making it more interesting. The course is forgiving, so you will more often have a shot when you miss the fairway. Wind is a big factor in the afternoon. A few hills, a lot of dog legs and the water is not too intimidating. The big negative is the geese s#*t, it is all over the place and your girlfriend will complain that you smell like a sewer tank when you get home. The greens can get bumpy at times. Other than that, it is usually a lot of fun to play the course. The bartender at the club is entertaining and gets a big crowd of 19th hole golfers finishing the round up at the bar. If your current focus is to practice, you can't find a better facility. They have separate greens for chipping, pitching, putting and a deep green side bunker. All three munis north and south combined don't have near the practice size facility that Shoreline has. read more

The course has a very appealing layout, the greens are in pretty good shape, the noise level is reasonable considering the fact that you are here right in Silicon Valley. Yes, you get the air traffic from SF and San Jose, however this is nothing in comparison to golf courses that are right next to the 101 or other high-ways. The staff is very friendly. I play here at least once a week (in the morning). The geese are sometimes annoying but luckily the dog normally does a great job making sure that they fly away. read more

Great track for a muicipal course. Of course the conditioning is not ideal but it gets constant play in a tough locationto keep a course green. Challenging holes especially with the wind. A bit of Scotland in California! Great deal for the price really read more

I've been playing Shoreline for 15 years, 2 years ago TouchStone management took over....and I have never seen worse management in my life. Shoreline use to be one of the nicest muni courses in the area, they have turned it into a complete dump. If you are paying more than 15 bucks to play, you are getting ripped off. They started off by watering the golf course with salt water for 2 months, there are a number of holes that have more than half the fairway marked as ground under repair, almost 2 years after this disaster, they have improved nothing. If you go to Shoreline, get a chinese chicken salad or cobb salad, and avoid this crappy course. I'm looking forward to this management to lose this golf course so hopefully somebody with some kind of experience can come fix this aweful dump. DO NOT PLAY HERE, YOU WILL BE VERY DISAPPOiNTED! Not to mention I played several 7 HOUR ROUNDS, which should never ever ever happen. The lay-out of this course is great! Its such a shame to see these idiots destroy the course and do nothing about it to improve the conditions, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! read more
