I had Maria work on a very difficult dress (vintage lace wedding dress from the 50's... with only 2 weeks until my wedding!!) and she was extremely accommodating and fit me in even though she was very busy. She did an amazing job on my dress, fixing it in ways I didn't even know it needed, and for less than half of what I was quoted at a "vintage restoration" bridal shop. Charged over $1,000 for alterations- which was not the price expressed during the first fitting. She didn't even sew in the cups to my dress (they fell out before the wedding) and left a large hole in my mother's gown that was not noticed until the day of the wedding. The owner responded to this review stating that final fittings are always offered- that was not the case with my situation. We were told to pick up at a specific time and that was it. I also wanted to add that rude comments were made regarding my mother's weight. I've never felt so uncomfortable during an alteration process. It was impossible to schedule with her and she kept pushing out the pickup date. While I appreciated her attempt to accommodate, I wish she had been honest about her ability to complete the alterations. Based on all of the positive reviews, I came here first to get measured. I should have stopped when that didn't go well! It was like they had never taken measurements before. It took two people not to get it right! Maria and her son, John, fumbled at this, only to hand me a handwritten piece of paper with incorrect measurements on it, for $20. He actually tried to tell me that I was a size 52 suit, when in reality, I am 44L. She was off by three inches on my waist, telling me I wore a 39, when it's really 36. She could not measure sleeve length, off by 10 inches! When that session was all said and done, she said, "you really just need to go try on a suit." OK... They convinced me to go to Armani in Clinton Crossing to buy a suit, telling me that if I came back to have it altered there, she would apply the $20 measuring fee to my alteration. I wanted some return for that, so I did go to Armani and buy a suit that I really liked and fit me pretty well. It, of course, needed to be hemmed, and it needed to have the waist clinched, and the sleeves of the jacket lengthened slightly. I came back to Maria. She gave me a time for a fitting, but then could only do the pants that day. She made me wait a week and half for an appointment to have a second fitting for the jacket. Two days before that appointment, her son, John, called wanting to push that appointment farther out, saying they were too busy. I told him I could not go into the next week. He told me that "they don't do rush jobs there, and that the minimum turn-around time for anything they do is two weeks." We agreed to keep the appointment I had at 12:30 on the Friday. When I showed up for the second appointment, Maria wasn't there yet. John asked me to put the jacket on and wait. I wasn't going to stand there and wait with a jacket on. That's just plain stupid. I waited until Maria decided to show up, and then put it on. While waiting, I had to listen to John tell me why it takes so many weeks for simple alterations to be completed and tell me why everybody else in town does a bad job. Finally, Maria, glided into the parking lot 10 minutes late in her large white Mercedes, and didn't even mention her tardiness. While she was doing my fitting, some other young guy came in. When he arrived, Maria looked shocked, and said to him, "Oh, was that for today? I thought it was for tomorrow. Can we do it tomorrow? I'm not ready today." The guy had to get back to college that weekend, and she didn't have his suit ready. Today I had an appointment to pick up the suit -- my FIFTH visit to this shop for something that should have involved a total of two on any other planet. I had a 12:30 appointment again (the earliest she gives), but she wasn't there again. John handed me my suit and collected $135 ($155 was the price, minus $20 applied for the measurement fee) for this ordeal--CASH ONLY! I should have insisted on trying it on with her there, but I just wanted to be done with these two clowns and never have to deal with them again, so I paid and got out of there, only to come home and find that the sleeves are not stitched evenly at the cuffs! UNREAL! These people are not skilled, not organized, not professional, not reasonable, not timely, and not worth it! As I was pulling out of the parking lot, Maria was zipping in across the Post Road in her Mercedes. I have no idea what they are doing; but, then again, neither do they! And so, this place goes immediately on the DNR (Do not return!) list. It is a perfect another example of a place with too many positive reviews to be true! read more

I bought a lovely dress for my daughter's wedding, but it needed alterations. Maria was able to alter the dress to fit my figure and now the dress looks perfect. Maria is very busy, but still made sure there was a second fitting and gave me time to try my dress on one last time when I picked it up. Maria is very professional and really cares about the quality of her work. It may take a little extra time because she wants to get it right, but it's worth it. Incredible work in a SHORT amount of time! I had a bridesmaid dress shipped to me three weeks before the wedding and it was two sizes too small. The bridal shop said there was nothing they could do for me and my regular tailor said he wouldn't fix it. I found Shoreline Sewing on Google and Maria was willing to do the work in 5 days! I didn't really love my Mother of The Groom Dress, but went ahead and got it altered for the wedding. Maria and her son were helpful, and informed me of the work the dress needed. It was not a simple job. I decided to go ahead and have it altered. Today was my final fitting...and I almost broke into tears. Maria is amazing! I came to her last summer to alter a bridesmaids dress and she did a phenomenal job. So I came back this year for my wedding gown and I'm telling you, run don't walk to see her because she did everything and more to my dress and it is PERFECTION!!! I needed my wedding dress and my daughter's maid of honor dress altered for my wedding. I called Maria the first week of May for a June 16th wedding. Maria said no problem she can do it and it was no rush to come in and had me come in on May 19th. Then she felt rushed when she saw what alterations were needed. Twice Maria said she would call me for another fitting and I had to call her. Then she did not do the alterations correct because she used pins and clips instead of taking notes and she forgot what she was supposed to do on BOTH dresses. She took out the hips instead of the top of my dress which ended up with hips too big on the wedding day. Then she did the straps wrong on my daughters dress and she said it was all set for pickup and she did not need another fitting. We had to scramble the day before the wedding for a new dress for her because one of the arm straps were so small she couldn't get it on. Maria was unprofessional and yelled at me and hung up the phone on me when I tried to explain to her that she is doing them wrong. Overall terrible experience and unprofessional.
