I walked into Short Cuts Barbershop not knowing anything and looking like an old man (which I am) with a gray mop on his head. The shop was filled with both young and older gentlemen, but there were a number of barbers working away on people's heads The owner Kendra was there and offered to cut my hair. Well staffed on a Sunday afternoon with friendly ladies accommodating a full spectrum of clientele. My haircut and beard trim were $30, about what I expected. I'm folicly challenged (ok, balding) so my haircut isn't very challenging, but I am picky about my beard trim. I was way overdue for both and was very happy with the result. I originally heard of this place on IG one of the barbers liked a photo of mine...i always look at people's pages when they like mine. That's when i found out the person who liked my page was a barber at an all women barber shop. I'm assuming it's an all women barber shop because in all of the pictures the barbers were all women. This works out cuz my barber retired and i was in the market of finding a new barber. Then again, I'm a sucker for a beautiful lady who happens be a barber. I went in after work (Camp Pendleton). The shop is off a side street but easy to find especially with a sign guy on the corner. I went in all behold a ton of Marines getting cleaned up for the work week and a few kids...and sure enough all women barbers. I saw the girl who liked my photo but want gonna be s creeper about it. I waited no more than 10 minutes. I ended up being called up by Mary...i swear she had my hat and sunglass off before i even say down. I told her what i wanted, she verified but made a suggestion and we were off...definitely had great conversations! She had asked how i heard about the shop and i told her i think the girl next to you liked one of my IG post...then that girl wad like that's why you look familiar...then she joined the conversation...good times! Overall, i really liked my cut...plus it came with a hair wash, shampoo, head scrub with a wash brush....overall great experience, great price, great atmosphere...man those ladies were crankin out customers left and right. I luckily found this place when I needed a new barbershop. I was also lucky to time my arrival on the day and time that Kendra, the owner was working and became available to cut my hair. I am a 69 year old guy, who is very particular about my hair and she did an absolutely great cut on my first visit! When I went in for another cut right before barbershops might be closed again due to COVID-19, Kendra was not there, but Melissa was and convinced me to take a chance on her. This place is awesome! Men's cuts are $15 and they do amazingly! I moved to mission valley and have driven up to Oceanside just to get my haircut up there! The one way road on mission had made it easier to get there when coming from the 5 so I'm happy! They are right around the corner from food and fun and they even have a private parking lot. I took my boyfriend here to get a haircut yesterday and was waiting in line till he got called up. The white lady who worked there asked my boyfriend what he wanted to be done to his hair with a weird vibe and somewhat attitude, and my boyfriend proceeded to explain to her what he wanted (my boyfriend has curly hair which isn't that long) he wanted 3 inches off his hair and she stated in a arrogant and demanding sort of way that she was going to do the other men's haircuts first because his was apparently too difficult for her and will take more time according to what she said. She also said this while he was there and waiting in line as everyone else, she seemed to me to pick and choose people and not give my boyfriend the same respect and costumer service as she was giving everyone else. But as people who work in the service community you're supposed to treat everyone equally with respect regarding if you're having a bad day. That is what I was taught and raised to be in the service community so therefore we left becsuse I don't want to give anyone our hard earned money to someone who's being impolite and rude for absolutely no reason... keep in mind my boyfriend didn't make any disrespectful comments regarding her or anyone there, she just chose to have that demeanor towards my boyfriend whom is Hispanic, I hope this gets addressed to the workers because we need to have a little bit more respect towards others and about how to treat people with kindness because you never know what people might be going through, thank you. read more

I only gave three stars because the ladies here are very nice otherwise I'd give them a two. It was my second time here and I really wanted to like them as I just moved from Orange county and needed a barber. They're good if you're active duty, cheap haircuts and they can give you a high and tight and have you out the door in five minutes. I had two different barbers, both very nice ladies but it was like a fantastic Sam's experience. Both cut my hair like they had somewhere to be, did not like the outcomes both times. Country music haunts me...not just when I'm sleeping, even when I'm awake. It's YOUR FAULT I've had country music stuck in my head for 3 DAYS!! But alas, all I can associate with that twangy crooning in my head is Short Cuts - the barber shop where I watch my BF drop in (no appointment needed) to get his hair cut before seeing my dad, a Navy veteran.
