Every year around Darkness Days, Short or Tall Eatery gets hooked up with a bunch of Surly Darkness kegs. Think vintage Darkness, all the variants, and even some barrel aged versions. If I get a chance, its fun to go try some of the older variants and vintages of Darkness to see how they old up. It helps as well that Short or Tall does flights! I enjoyed five different pours of Darkness: Gimme S'More Darkness (2021): An Imperial Stout, Darkness, aged on Vanilla and Cinnamon aged in Bourbon Barrels reminiscent of a liquid s'more. Darkness (2016): An Imperial Stout aged for nearly ten years. A little thin bodied, which occurs over time, and a ton of sherry notes. Darkness (2025) Barrel-Aged: An Imperial Stout aged in Elijah Craig Bourbon Barrels and Creative Oak French Oak. The OG version of this year's BA Darkness. Chocolate Limoncello Darkness (2024): An Imperial Stout with Cacao and Lemon Puree hitting French Oak for a while as well. This is a weird one for sure. Vietnamese Coffee Darkness (2020): An Imperial Stout, Darkness, infused with Organic Robusta and Arabica Coffees from UP Coffee Roasters (local to MN), Vanilla Beans, and Coconut. It wasn't too busy at noon on a Saturday in December. The whole place/seating is situated around a huge bar. They had the wild game on and you can see the tvs from every seat! So we have finally decided to return after our last go round with the not so great poutine and, I will say, we were pleasantly surprised. The building was just as impressive and clean as when we first were there. The staff were very nice and accommodating. They didn't rush us, but offered good timely service. All things we enjoyed the first time we were there. But alright, I just have to say it, the burger was unimpressive, and here's I think why. My wife and my mother-in-law got burgers that had much more cheese on them then the hot 100 that I received. Which is widely important if you're not seasoning your burger patty, which is what I believe is happened here. I was so pleasantly surprised biting into my burger, until I hit the patty. The patty seemed like work to get through and honestly took away from the rest of the flavors. And the rest of flavors were awesome. Absolutely love their chipotle aioli and pickled bits that came on it. The fried onions added a wonderful crunch. But that patty, just work to eat. My father-in-law got some lemon pepper wings that looked amazingly cooked. Could easily hear the crunch from them. They did seem a bit small but I'll definitely be back at some point to try them out. We also ordered the mac and cheese bites, fries, and truffle fries. All were good. The real winner though, and the reason we decided to return was their unmatched variety of tap Oktoberfest from breweries in Minnesota. I have no idea how they went about assembling such a buffet of local brews but god bless them for it. Many of them I've never seen on tap anywhere outside the brewery, and to top it off you can order a flight of the different options so hats off to Short or Tall. This place has a gorgeous interior. There are TVs on almost every wall, definitely a great place to go watch a game. The service was great. We ordered Parmesan garlic and BBQ dry rub wings. They were tasty. I also ordered their daily lunch special of two chicken tacos, with a side of tortilla chips, salsa and chocolate chip cookie. My husband ordered their cheeseburger wrap with a side of chilli. My tacos were delicious and the cookie a perfect ending. My husband enjoyed his wrap but the chilli was more like soup than the traditional thick Chili he is normally use to so he didn't eat too much of it. All and all a great place to try. read more

We've visited Short or Tall on and off since it opened. After seeing ads for their beer selection, we decided to return. To our surprise, they no longer offer poutine, their lunch specials do not include a beer, and their burgers do not include fries. We started with the "Tall" (22oz) beverages Strawberry Shortcake Cream Ale (Indeed) and Peach Bellini Seltzer (Boom Island). We love the selection of local drinks, and both of these were absolutely refreshing. The cheese curds were piping hot! The batter was thin, so they were gooey on the inside and crispy on the outside. I think everyone should take note and offer marinara and ranch with cheese curds - the perfect combo. The cheese curds and brown gravy added texture and flavor to the State Fair Burger. Unfortunately, it was overcooked and the meat wasn't particularly flavorful. We were excited to see the offer of multiple types of fries and chose the jerk fries with pineapple dipping sauce. These were covered in seasoning, which paired nicely with the sweetness of the dipping sauce. Overall, the sides and drinks were good but the burger was lacking. If you're big on Buffalo sauce - this is it for you! The two times I gave it a chance, it ended up a little too soggy and messy. Shrooms and Gouda burger is divine! Also love their salads. In town for work and this place is in the same parking lot as my hotel - super convenient so why not give it a try? They have great Happy Hour specials on both food and drinks! They have my favorite MN brewery (Castle Danger) on tap, so that was a plus. The first night I went in I had the Beer Cheese soup and it was good, not great. No one in the restaurant seemed to care that I was standing at the hostess desk waiting to be seated. We always see the Billboards when coming into Rogers and we were excited as this place has over 80+ taps and I think they are all local breweries. Not only that they offer cocktails and food. We did the chicken nachos and very filling and we did a flight of local beer and a flight of cocktails. Cocktail flight was strong. We sat at the bar and the day we went there was really only one bartender working and it took a little longer than normal. She did a good job at keeping up with orders. Had lunch here yesterday for the first time, they have so many billboards up on hwy 94 I have been curious about the place. We ordered off their lunch menu, I think everything was $11.95. I had 2 sliders and fries and my lunch date had a chicken salad wrap and chili. I will say they both were just ok. Nothing to rave about sadly. And sadder yet, our waitress was not very attentive! So review of the food and beverages first: Wow, this place has a outstanding selection of local beers! Gotta say, this was great. Food. That said, I had their Turkey burger twice and the some mini hamburgers once. Gotta say, the Turkey burger were probably one of the best I've ever had. Seasoned perfectly, great toppings, just a really good sandwich. The mini burgers? Eh...average at best. Now for the bad part and why this place only rates two stars. BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIER SERVERS!! I was overcharged two out the three times I was there. Tips were increased above what I had tipped (and I tip at 30%) by the server/bartender (BTW, the service was also pretty horrendous. Do not eat here if you are in hurry) honestly it's ridiculous that their wait staff are doing this. You were already tipped WELL BEYOND average! Yet you steal from customers?? We work too, and what effectively did was steal my children's lunch money. That's some pretty damned low life shit stealing from folks who probably make less than you do. I cannot recommend place. Granted there isn't much in Rogers but I identified two other restaurants with better food, an almost as good beer selection, oh and waitstaff that doesn't steal from their customers. This place? (double pleasant) The food was pleasantly delicious and the beer was pleasantly with an additional pleasant tasty as F with an assortment of atomic pleasant flavors with a hint of tasty deliciousness. Pros: my chicken sandwich was thick and thought it would be pink inside but it was juicy and moist and tasty as F. (A+) Cons: The poutine was fine but I don't think it had enough gravy to surround the fries and the toppings did not cover all the fries so it taste like I was eating a crap load of standard fries. All falling ever so freely from a mezzanine style cooler floating from above the bar. We are off to a great start right? You betcha! After a few cold ones, let's eat! I've had a few items from the menu. Wings, nachos, lettuce wraps, flat bread pizza, and burgers. The food is spendy. What would be great is just ok because of the price. While I can't complain with the $10 single patty vs $13 double patty, it's the $4 addition for fries that frustrates me. All and all I'm not mad but I'm not thrilled. I would suggest visiting for their lunch special or happy hour. They offer some decent specials, making the entire experience more reasonable. I honestly don't know what's going on with Short or Tall, but it's not the same place it was when I first started visiting. As you can see from my check-ins, this was one of my go-to spots. A lot of what made this place a favorite now is different or completely gone. They've gone from having a cool and unique cocktail list to just 4 - old fashioned, blackberry cucumber smash, mojito, and strawberry lemonade. Super basic cocktails I can get most places. I lived for the American Pie and the Skol-rita, but they're no longer on the menu. They're starting to introduce monthly cocktail specials, but the ones I've had have been pretty bland or just overall not good. They also don't seem to sell their sauces and grab-and-go items anymore. I used to have their garlic aioli and Short or Tall sauce with so many things at home! Speaking of, the recipe for their Short or Tall sauce seems to have changed too. It was a nice tangy sauce, now it tastes like there's too much liquid smoke in it and the tang is no longer there. I'm so disappointed because this was my go-to for burgers. It wasn't just one subpar visit - the past 4 times I've been, it just doesn't seem quite the same. My food was OK. The first time I went. The second time I went with my dog because they have a patio my dog was sitting behind me. We were the only ones at the patio and got kicked out to sit out the parking lot patio because of the dog. My dog was laying down sleeping not a problem. OK so we moved. Along comes another dog they sit in the middle of the patio and we're able to stay there the entire time this dog was awake by this time all the tables were full. My food arrived. My beer. Cheese soup was like mashed potatoes. My salad had wrinkled tomatoes and half of it was wilted. They did give me credit for my salad.. I feel like $10.95 for the size of a large french fry at McDonald's is way too much but they were pretty good. The burgers were good. But at $17.95 that is all you get just a burger. A little pricey.
