Sunday, 18 January 2026…read more Met friends at J.R. Neighbors for lunch. According to my friend, the have the best burgers in Etown! ‍ There are a few parking spaces directly in front of the restaurant (maybe 5, with 2-3 slots being reserved for handicap). There are nearby parking lots with plenty more parking. As it was a Sunday, we had no trouble finding parking. There were a few people ahead of us, maybe three different parties. My partner and I did not have to wait to be seated since the friends we were meeting had already arrived and got a table. We greeted our friends then reviewed the menu. Since it was around 12ish on a Sunday, only the brunch menu was available. Not long after, our waitress arrived to take drink orders. Shortly after that, and after the drinks arrived - pineapple mimosas, apple juice, and water, we ordered our food...mostly everyone had a burger. I had the Texan burger/sandwich which came on a Texas toast, hence the name, and my partner had the Newberry Smash burger (double). Each came with a choice of "regular" fries or tots. I wanted sweet potato fries, but again, since it was Sunday, only the brunch menu and what was displayed was available. So, I settled for regular fries. My burger was good albeit a bit messy with the sunny side egg running everywhere! The bacon topping the burger was perfectly done with the right crispy/crunchy consistency. My mimosas was refreshing except I did not get much of a pineapple taste. The fries were fresh and appropriately seasoned, not too salty and not too bland, just right. We were all full from our meals so we did not even consider dessert! The restaurant was busy but not overly crowded, so the atmosphere was quite. We sat by the windows and were not even distracted by the outside vehicles passing by. Overall, we had a pleasant experience and would recommend J.R. Neighbors to anyone looking for good burgers in a good atmosphere in Etown.

This place is such a hidden gem. Tucked away off the beaten path, it has that cozy, "you almost…read moredon't want to tell anyone about it" kind of charm. The space is definitely on the smaller side, which adds to the intimate feel, but I can only imagine it gets pretty tight during peak hours--especially since they don't take reservations. That said, everything else more than makes up for it. The service was genuinely excellent--attentive, friendly, and made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. And the food? Absolutely worth it. Every dish we tried was packed with flavor and clearly made with care. If you're thinking about going, I'd definitely recommend timing your visit to avoid the rush. It's a small spot, but one that delivers a big experience.

5 of us headed to Glendale from Louisville (about a 45 minute drive) for lunch and some shopping…read more Upon arrival at 11.30 am we were seated immediately by the sweet hostess. The menu is extensive so it took a minute for us to order. Everyone had water to drink. Our server brought us some fresh yeast rolls that were hot and tasty. We had the fried green tomatoes appetizer for the table. They were excellent served with sour cream and horseradish and ranch that we had to ask for additionally. Everyone ordered something different. Orders included: 1. Fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, and cole slaw. I only tried their cole slaw which leans more to a vinegar base and I prefer a sweeter slaw. There were 4 pieces of chicken. 2. Meatloaf with mashed potato and gravy and cornbread. Cornbread was a bit dry, meatloaf was ok. 3. Mushroom and bacon smothered chicken, onion rings and cornbread. Person said the chicken was a bit dry, the mushrooms and bacon saved the dish. Onion rings were good, crispy and hot. 4. Chicken and dumplings with cornbread. Folks that tasted them said they make better at home, nothing special. 5. Rueben sandwich with corn pudding. Sandwich was just ok. Bread was too thick for my taste, beef was tender. Corn pudding was excellent, hot, creamy. Service was good, resturant quaint, street parking. The train rolling by, blowing the whistle while we ate was a nice touch, although it rattled the building. After we ate, got to go containers and paid we shopped at the adjacent and across the street shops to the resturant. That was fun. After shopping we headed back to the restaurant for coffee and dessert. Again each of us had a different dessert item which included: coconut cream pie, butterscotch pie, derby pie, chocolate sundae cake and the house specially, butter cream pie. All were pretty good. We all liked the house speciality pie, it was super sweet, creamy with a good crust. Coconut pie was a favorite as was the chocolate sundae cake. The derby pie was way too chocolatey for most of us. It is a cute little little resturant with a homey feel that will take you back in time. One of those places where you should try but then say, did that, don't necessarily need to revisit.

Their current address is: 928 Old Elizabethtown Rd #1, Hodgenville, KY 42748 1 - Local health dept has an ORANGE placard in window with a 92 rating. 2 - Online menu is nowhere close to the one we received in the restaurant - ONLINE menu is OUTDATED and does not reflect current much HIGHER prices. 3 - Only 1 other couple was dining when we got there at 5:30 pm on Saturday. 4 - My unsweet tea was $4.00. My food only combo was an additional $16.00. 5 - My chicken wings were NOT FRESH - they were dried out and covered with buffalo sauce. And my loaded fries were NOT CRISP but instead rather soggy. 6 - While the server and cook were friendly enough they were doing other things also and that diminshed their attentiveness. 7 - This place is more like a sports bar as opposed to a country sit-down restaurant. 8 - No towels in the uni-sex rest room. 9 - My tab was over $20.00 just for me - for bar food. And NO RECEIPT given nor offered! 10 - And one of the 3 TVs in the main dining area had a "sports" show on called POWER SLAP, Where Men and Women were trying to win a contest by slapping each other unconscious in a show designed a lot like the MMA stuff on TV. Yup. That's family entertainment - NOT! The good reviews are mostly from years ago. I was hoping for a nice down-home country experience in Hodgenville, but was obviously disappointed as a 1st time customer. Maybe they will find a way to get better.
