What a great place to stumble across. I had some misgivings when I pulled up and the restaurant seemed to be in the middle of a random neighborhood, but don't let that fool you, this place is great. Everyone who was working here was super nice and friendly. FYI the menu on here is very outdated and very wrong, but it does give an idea of what they serve (Italian with sandwiches and bar food type appetizers). The French onion soup is great, as was the eggplant parmesan. The portions are huge, but the food is also very well made. read more

We found Shorty's on Google while driving back from the Finger Lakes area on I-90. It is everything a friendly neighborhood café should be. Wonderful friendly service (Jules) and welcoming atmosphere. Food was terrific. I had a house made sausage sandwich with provolone with house made chips and my wife had delicious baked rigatoni, with a delicious marinara sauce and baked-on cheese with Italian spices. Menu had lots of good things and it is hard to decide what to order. I could tell that its food is made with great care and pride with no shortcuts. This was by far a restaurant that took me by surprise. The food was phenomenal, the portions were hearty, and the food melted in our mouth. My husband, young kids, and I kids love to eat and explore new places. We were so very pleased by all the homemade, delectable food. The service by our waitress, Wendy, was above and beyond. My kids loved her big smile and hospitality. We will definitely be making this a stop on our way back through Amersterdam. So very, very pleased with the atmosphere and the experience! What a fantastic place! We love Shorty's Southside, they have amazing food! Love the garlic fries, we usually start off with those, then pick one of the many specials - they always have something interesting to try. Prices are really good, portions are nice! Shorty's Southside looks a little like a hole in the wall from the street, but once inside it is homey, if a little bar-like. The food was quite good, but I wouldn't recommend eating the free popcorn at the bar because other people have probably touched it. Anything with chicken will be great, if you can't decide what to get. The people are nice, and everything seems fresh to order. Our one complaint was that our caesar salad was definitely overdressed (would ask for dressing on the side in the future). Otherwise we'd give it five stars. Overall, a great place to have a nice bite to eat or drink. read more

Wandered over to Shorty's when I came across a coupon recently in a local magazine, and I wasn't disappointed! Impeccably clean, comfortably cool (it was about 95 degrees outside), friendly staff, a small (but pleasing) selection of specials, and amazing prices to boot. You couldn't ask for anything more. Shorty's, along with its neighbor La Cucina, are two of the best things about Amsterdam dining. If only more people knew they were there!!! (but then again, they might become overpopular and the quality might go down!). read more

Really a hidden gem! The Eggplant Parmesan was the best I've ever had. The cream sauce on my dates meal was also world-class. Everything else was excellent. Outstanding and friendly service. Nice local atmosphere. Maybe a bit heavy on the salt in the soup and the sugar in the Marinara, but these are minor criticisms. This place is great. I will make it a point to stop in again next time I am in Amsterdam at mealtime. Amsterdam is a real down-on-its heels city, but Shorty's is a real saving grace. read more

I stopped in here last week with some friends. The kitchen closes early even on the weekends. On Friday & Saturday they stay open til 10pm but will close earlier if there are not many customers. We had ordered the following the other night: Lasagna, Chef Salad, Chicken Parmigiana and pasta with the Alfredo sauce. The lasagna was massive. It easily could be made into two meals. It sure looked good to me. I plan on giving it a try on one of my stops here. The Chef Salad was monstrous and very delicious. Again, a two meal entree if you are willing to eat day old salad. There was ample amounts of meats and cheese. A nice added bonus was the two artichoke hearts which were great. I had the chicken parmigiana which I enjoyed very much. The size of this dish was typical. I did not have any left overs. I'm not much of an Alfredo fan myself but I can say my friend finished off a nice size bowl. The service was good. The restaurant is small so you may have to wait on weekends. I'm looking forward to getting the chef salad and the lasagna in the future. read more

its ok, weird location, food was ok at best. burger was mushy, wings were standard and overpriced. fries were good at first, got sick of them after a couple minutes. I would like to try other menu items but too nervous about being disappointed :( read more
