Extremely disappointing and concerning experience with Shottenkirk Desert Lexus. I brought my Lexus LS460 in because the vehicle would not go over 30 mph. The dealership kept my car for several weeks, performed their diagnostics, and confidently advised that the issue was related to the injector driver/ECU. Based on their recommendation and supposed expertise, I approved a repair totaling over $5,300. That repair did NOT fix the original problem. What's even more concerning is that their own documentation shows they recommended "additional diagnosis" before completing the repair, yet they still proceeded with a costly fix that did not resolve the issue I brought the car in for. Now, instead of taking accountability, I'm being told they are "not sure" what the problem is and are recommending another $3,000+ in additional repairs. In other words, more trial-and-error--at my expense. This is not what you expect from a Lexus dealership. The issue wasn't properly diagnosed, the repair did not address the actual problem, and now the diagnosis has changed after the fact. At this point, I've paid over $5,000 and the original drivability issue remains unresolved. Being asked to continue paying for uncertain repairs after a failed initial diagnosis is unacceptable. I have escalated this matter to Lexus corporate and am pursuing further action. If you are considering service here, especially for major repairs, I strongly recommend getting a second opinion before approving any work. This experience raises serious concerns about diagnostic accuracy and accountability at this location. read more

Vehicle was priced competitively but the dealership's response to a CarFax with two report accidents was dismissive and invasive. I was told things like you can get a flat tire and it shows as an accident.. and off landish scenarios - please see for email response. Took multiple back and forths to get a straight answer and I wasn't comfortable with how the facts were handled as you see in the photo. Just sharing this for others who prefer transparency up front when buying - looks like the one star reviews are all claiming the same outcome. We've purchased a car here in the past and had expected a better experience, similar to our first purchase; however the manager Sean made that impossible. He was rude and disrespectful to his sales team and potential customers. Car was sitting on the lot an a very long time. They finally lowered the price so we went in for test drive. We had an appointment but said we would be in touch. No more than an hour later I sent the sales guy Tony a message stating we would buy the car today all cash if we could agree on a price. I heard from him several hours later around 5pm telling me the car sold today at auction for over $3000 more than what the sales price was. I call BS on this one. After initially having a positive experience with purchasing a used vehicle, I have changed my mind after experiencing some negativity. The car appeared to be in good condition but upon returning home and taking it to my local dealership, we were informed the car had some front damage and had been repainted. I thought it would be good to get a second opinion, so I took the vehicle to another shop where they told me it was absolutely painted as it was missing all the OEM markings on the hood. After contacting the dealership, they were adamant that the carfax was clean. This is understandable, but they have maintained this vehicle since it was almost new, so they would have had some sense that it had work done. Especially, since one of the headlights was fogged up and when we asked them why they said "that's common and it can be buffed out" but they said they could not do that. We also asked them about the swirls in the hood and they said they would detail the car and we could pick it up the next day. Clearly they are a very shady business and it ended up costing us over $13k loss in less than a year. It hit our family very hard financially... I am updating my review to a one star after taking my vehicle in to another Lexus dealership near my home, only to find out that this vehicle has had front end damage and has been repainted. This is the only Lexus dealership that I have gone to that does not provide an appointment for the service that your car needs, it's "First come, first served " to obtain a loaner vehicle. They have no technology specialist and unless you bought your car from them they won't allow any of their knowledgeable sales staff help you. They called the next day to come down and they will sell it to me at my price point. Went there spent 1.5 hours and they said they couldn't do it. I called Riverside Lexus gave them the Vin # and they got it for me. I paid CASH . I will never never let them service either one of my Lexus. I paid cash for the 2nd one also . This place has horrible customer service. We live in San Diego and were ready to purchase a car from this place. So we drove 2.5 hrs each way and a total of 5 hours of wasted time. My BF spoke to a "Sales Floor Manager" named "Sean Marchese" via phone call regarding this specific car they have my partner is interested in purchasing. Sean told my partner that he was going to have Chris parked the car we wanted in the back. Sean had Chris Schwent (Sales) contact my BF and they agreed that we would come for the car and would be there around 4 PM. Both Sean and Chris know we are coming from San Diego which is a long drive. Upon our arrival and speaking to Chris Schwent (Sales/Product specialist) he told my partner the car had just sold 30 minutes ago and drove off the lot. Very frustrating and disappointing because he texted Chris Schwent one hour into our driving and he replied with a thumbs up knowing we were driving 2.5 hrs. We cannot believe the unprofessionalism of this place. Then my BF proceeded to ask where's the manager, where's Sean (Sales floor manager) he spoke to on the phone, Chris pointed to this guy who was sitting at the table, in front of the computer but did not make eye contact or anything. 5 minutes gone by waiting for the manager. There was nothing we could do at this point because the car we wanted was gone. So we start driving another 2.5 hrs to San Diego. We went back to their site to see other cars they might have and looked at the "ABOUT US" with the picture of their employees to find out that the Floor Manager lied that Sean Marchese was off because the guy that was on the picture of their website was the guy Chris pointed out that was sitting at the table so Sean Marchese was there all those time. We were still considering purchasing a car from this place even after the time wasted driving there but after finding out the LIES from both of whom they call Managers, Nevermind. I really dislike that I'm doing this but I feel like I have no other choice. Today I had an unpleasant experience with not 1 but 2 salesman. Salesman and used sales manager. I made an online inquiry about a certain vehicle that they had listed for a certain amount of money. Long story short I was given a price OTD But I wasn't ready myself to make a decision to fill out a credit application because I was waiting on pictures to see if there was any rust on the vehicle I inquired about. As I was waiting on those pictures and getting ready to head out to the dealer I get hit with a text saying the price was increased by 5,000 dollars. Listing was originally set at 15,000 and just jumped like that to 20,000. I get it the dealerships gotta make their money because of the money they put into used cars and having to make them as clean as possible. If I was already given OUT THE DOOR pricing Shouldn't that be honored? But I guess this dealership doesn't do that. I was very unhappy with what I was told so I decided to speak to the use sales manager and he wasn't any help either at all. I guess the sales man I was speaking to originally told him I was going to call him because I was unhappy with the price increase. When I got on the phone with sales manager he was very short with me and basically said he couldn't do anything about what was told to me originally and couldn't honor the price that I was already given. He said he would call me when he has the chance because he was really busy apparently but I can tell by the tone of his voice he isn't going to call me at all. Shottenkirk is the only Lexus dealer in the entire Coachella Valley...and they treat their customers accordingly! We went to Shottenkirk looking for a used late model Lexus, but they didn't have what we wanted, so they showed us the new version of the car we were looking for. The price was well above what had intended to pay and we told the salesperson what the absolute maximum we could afford was. They showed us another used car similar to what we had been looking for, but it was priced at about what the new version we'd just looked at had been. We reiterated what the most we could afford "out the door" was. Over the next day or so and after several phone calls, eventually the salesperson assured us we could get the used car at our maximum out the door price. We went in and sat waiting while the salesperson went to talk to the manager and after a half hour to 45 minutes, the salesperson and the manager called us over to look at their numbers. They had worked up a price sheet that was $10,000 higher than what we'd said was the absolute maximum we could afford was. In all fairness, about $5000 was in sales taxes that we would have had to pay anyway when we went back to our home state, but...they had added over $500 in "document fees," plus charges for "window tinting" and "paint protection" on a used car that almost assuredly had been included on the car when it was purchased new. They graciously removed the window tinting, paint protection and a few other charges leaving the car still priced $2500 or so higher than the "absolute maximum out the door" we had been assured of. We left and called a number of Lexus dealers in the LA basin area. Unlike, Shottenkirk, all were willing to negotiate their prices to one degree or another, and consequently we ended up purchasing a car in LA. Shottenkirk has a monopoly in the Coachella Valley and consequently there's little incentive to treat customers and their needs with respect. We would encourage anyone looking for a new or used Lexus to check out Shottenkirk's inventory and then shop around the LA basin area for prices. It may be a bit further to travel, but you'll save thousands! Addendum added 4/9/25: After reading Shottenkirk's reasonable sounding response to my negative review, I thought perhaps I'd been unfair, so I went back and read a good deal of the other "one star" reviews. I was immediately struck by two things: The first was the number of similar, if not identical issues being reported, and the second was the "canned" response to most of these reviews. Take a look at the response you will see repeated again and again... "(fill in the name here) thank you for your feedback. We would like to extend our most sincere apologies. Your feedback will help us ensure that this experience doesn't happen again and we would like the opportunity to discuss options to ensure your satisfaction. Please contact us at 760-821-1426 and ask for one of our managers." It should be obvious by Shottenkirk's cut and paste response to customer complaints that (A) they have a number of problems with customer service, (B) they are aware of these problems and (C) they do not intend to fix these problems. That's the beauty of having a virtual monopoly...you can blow off customers and don't need to worry about any negative consequences. In other words, Shottenkirk's version of customer relations can be summed up as..."No need to worry, they're born faster than we can piss them off." Caveat emptor! read more

Dont buy a used EV here under 25K that qualifies for the 4000 dollar used EV tax credit. They will NOT do their part under the IRS publication of this tax credit. UPDATE: June 13th... I'm calling today the ULTIMATE COMEBACK!! I was slammed with meetings today and missed Kyle's phone call. Sorry about that Kyle! We caught up on the phone eventually and we talked through the experience so far and let me tell ya Kyle crushed it today and made it right. Like I said, the Ultimate Comeback. After a few minutes I was offered the car we had been hoping to purchase, we went into the dealer and here is my experience. Kyle facilitated a warm handoff to Richard who handled all of the little details that made a tremendous difference. For example, he called to confirm we were feeling good with the price, texted me photos of the car (inside/out), emailed me our formal quote. In the first hour we communicated via phone call, text message and email. Richard is world class, 5-star communicator. When we arrived, Richard was waiting for us outside the building and offered us a beverage but more importantly a friendly smile and hand shake. He was patient with all my elementary level hybrid questions and he knew it all and taught us how to navigate our new ES300h. We were in and out of the dealer in 90 minutes or so, we were treated kindly and the Desert Lexus facility is plush, I'd like to come hang out even if I'm not buying another vehicle! Okay I rarely give one star but I had to with this establishment. I'm from the San Gabriel Valley so it's a long drive to make the trip out there. Prior to me going I spoke with Andy one of the sales guys and ask him several questions regarding the 2025 ES300h. Made an appointment and when we got there not only did he not help but sent someone else which was fine as Tony was very nice. After test drive we was like okay we will proceed even though the car was not certified but since mileage was low it's okay. They came back with the price and we were shock with all the unnecessary adds on. Not only that the price was hike up from the online price. I pointed that out and the manager honor the online price but still. So price was at 42,999 and their total came out to be 51k plus. Make it make sense!!! Lexus of Cerritos has a similar car price at 42k and it came out to be close to 48k just mileage a little higher but it's certified. We decided we didn't want it. Manager saying it's still a great deal etc...we said No it's okay..she than offered us different option as in other vehicles with less price tag. I felt offended so at this point I already made up my mind not to buy it. It's not that we cant afford the car it's the shady business we felt. As we were driving back they texted us back slashing down the price of their adds on. Even if it was slash down back at the sticker price I will not buy it. It was surely a waste of drive and time to be lied to over the phone. Guess they didn't think we were serious, so went to Audi instead and got a Q8. Desert Lexus thought they were the only game in town or something and had an attitude like they're doing us a favor!!! Desert Lexus doesn't seem to understand that folks interested in Lexus, can likely afford higher end luxury vehicles, so don't treat us like we are desperate and that you somehow has the upper hand in negotiating and treat us like we have no other options to go and spend our money. Let's be honest here, Lexus doesn't exactly make exciting vehicles and y'all were lucky that my wife liked her boring RX450H, and was actually thinking of getting another one but I'm not a fan of paying over $65K for a downsized 4-cylinder, so chances are we will never get another Lexus again anyhow. read more

I was told over the phone my numbers would work for my trade in and what I was looking for and then told upon arrival it wasn't even close to possible . I was first introduced to a junior sales associate (named Axel) who was sweet but didn't have much information on the cars he was showing me ("this one is NOT a hybrid" - when referring to a car that had HYBRID written on a small plaque by the door... in addition to not being able to explain which cars had a warranty or not, or what was possible in terms of negotiating on price) He then connected me with a more senior sales manager there (i wish I could remeber his name because he was so offensively rude that I would love to call him out) who sat down with me and immediately started addressing my male friend who was with me instead of me (even after my friend told him I was the car buyer). I would ask a straightfwd question about price and be told to take a test drive first and then given roundabout explanations that didnt address anything I asked about.
