I am compelled to write this review - not just because of the exceptional care I received from Dr. Patel and his team but to help inform people of the tremendous benefit of regeneration therapeutics. I suffered an injury over Christmas that left me unable to walk, excruciating pain just to stand. I took 3,000 mg Tylenol, and 400 mg Celebrex without relief. I had to fly home early from my daughter's in MO, in a wheelchair. I went to see an orthopedic surgeon who was not helpful but did prescribe PT. I went to PT for months and in March was still in bad pain with most usual activities. I was living a very restricted life. I researched functional orthopedic care and I am so grateful I found Dr. Patel. After reading reviews I made an appointment but was still unsure if I could get results like those I read about. He spent 90 minutes with me (never has any physician spent 90 minutes with me) - watched me walk, examined my spine and muscle strength, asked me lots of questions, and answered all of mine. He reviewed the 2 sets of X-rays that had been taken previously, gave me his working diagnosis, and ordered an MRI. The MRI showed a strangulated nerve root at L5 in addition to several other findings including severe facet arthropathy. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and stem cell therapeutics are still not covered by insurance (despite being found beneficial for well over a decade), and the cost was higher than I had anticipated. He explained my options - taking the insurance-covered route or taking his route (recommending both procedures for my complex case) but with the possibility of full mobility. I scheduled my procedure and the day before I would have fell in the parking lot after having lunch with a friend if she had not been with me, due to the severe claudication in my left leg. His patient advocate made sure I had everything prepared before my procedure. His team was extraordinary - calling the night before with reminders about medications to take before coming, medications to bring, etc. My procedure was much more complex than usual but everything went great! The care I received during the procedure was exceptional and prior preparation made the transition home easy. For the first 3 days, I was in a lot of pain and grateful to have purchased the walker as they suggested. The walker and the back brace helped to mitigate some of the pain when I needed to get up and move around my house. As I live alone, I was grateful to have my sister come and stay with me for 3 days. After about a week, the only pain I felt was in the back of my pelvis at the two puncture sites for the bone marrow aspiration. I have taken no pain medication not even Tylenol, after the first 5 days. It has been about 5 weeks now since the procedure and I am pain-free at rest and continuing to push my body with PT twice a week. I have full flexibility without pain. I can lift 15 pounds without pain and am walking 2 to 3 miles a day without pain. I am confident in another month or two I will be back to full physical activities. These procedures administered by an exceptionally skilled and knowledgeable physician can regenerate the lower back - ligaments, muscles, and facets, and stabilize the lower back. I highly recommend Dr. Patel to anyone suffering back pain, who believes they must live a life of limited activity, muscle relaxants, and pain medication, or face back surgery that could leave you worse off. My experience with the front desk/intake staff was disappointing. The person I spoke with talked very quickly, mumbled, and was difficult to understand over the phone. The conversation felt very scripted and transactional, with little sense of warmth, patience, or genuine patient care. Instead of feeling welcomed or helped, I found myself wanting to end the call as quickly as possible. While the doctor may provide excellent care, the front office experience created a poor first impression and felt unnecessarily off-putting. read more

Star rating is for the initial intake lady NOT Dr. Patel. What an absolute nightmare. It's very hard to understand her as she speaks extremely fast that she mumbles her words and is very very pushy. It would be helpful to slow down and explain how things operate instead of pushing to book an appointment so fervently. It's extremely off putting and makes it seem like the office is all about money which I know it's not. When asking her to repeat herself, her tone, speed and annunciation doesn't change, she doesn't pick up on conversation cues and interrupts constantly. Horrible first impression. Weird vibes. I could not be here, as happy and optimistic as I am today without all of you! Saw Dr Patel about 1 yr ago for my herniated disc and multiple bulging discs. He was the most thorough and caring and knowledgeable Doctor I have ever met. Before my PRP procedure I was basically in pain 24/7 , couldn't stand more than 5 minutes, couldn't even sit more than a few minutes... all I can do is lay down. I was like that for over 6 months ! I tried steroid epidural which made it worse! After my procedure .. about 3 months has passed and I was about 50% better! It was such a relief to atleast see some healing going on. I went in 6 months after initial procedure and asked to have a booster injection because I was only about 50% better. The back has very bad circulation, therefore back injuries are very slow to heal, if ever heal... we have to bring about inflammation and thus healing with these prp injection. Dr Patel didn't in particular want to offer a second booster injections, because I could of waited and continued to heal slowly.... but... I had to ask for them....which is another great factor about him because he's never pushing pushing things for you to do for no reason. Anyways.... I'm about 80-90% now. I do rehab .... and I'm able to exercise like my old self now...except with a weight restriction ... which is fine ! I'm able to do it ! I'm forever thankful for Dr Patel and his staff !!! I developed a mysterious ailment in both knees which caused them to swell and fill with liquid, to the point where I was not able to bend them hardly at all. I went from being a super-fit woman who was a star in my Bar Method classes, to not being able to walk without great difficulty, practically overnight. I saw several rheumatologists, including Dr. Daniel Wallace, supposedly the top in the field, and they all wanted to write me off as having rheumatoid arthritis, even though I had none of the symptoms. My boyfriend did a lot of research, which I entirely trusted since he was valedictorian at Berkeley, and in the top 5% of his Harvard Law class, and believe me, this man can do research like nobody's business. He was 100% convinced that I absolutely did not have RA, and he thought I could be helped by PRP or stem cell injections, which led us to Dr. Patel. I was desperate, and Dr. Patel could have sold me an expensive PRP or stem cell treatment, but he took a look at me and the MRI my boyfriend had insisted I get done (none of the rheumatologists had thought to do that), and he also did an ultrasound, and based on the results, he told us that he did not think that either treatment was required at that time. He prescribed physical therapy, and said that if that didn't work, then we could re-visit the other options. He spent a lot of time with us, and answered all our questions. He didn't seem at all like he was looking at the clock or tapping his toes impatiently. My boyfriend is very thorough, and thinks to ask many more questions than would ever occur to me, but Dr. Patel put up with all of them professionally and good-naturedly, and answered them thoroughly, to my, and (more importantly) my very demanding boyfriend's satisfaction. Now, a few weeks after that, no one could tell there had ever been anything wrong with me, I'm able to run, walk, and do anything that any fit human being could do. However, I still have an odd feeling in my knees, which doesn't prevent me from engaging in any activities, but makes my skin feel as if it gets stretched very taut across my knees when I bend them all the way. When I returned to Dr. Patel for my follow-up, he was extremely pleased with my progress, and when I asked if the PRP or stem cells might help this feeling go away, even then he said we should hold off and revisit the situation in a couple of months. I am so very grateful to Dr. Patel for not trying to sell me everything in his bag of tricks, but doing what he knew would be the right thing for me. When I think of how those idiot rheumatologists wanted to put me on an "aggressive immuno-suppresive drug therapy," which would have compromised my immune system, but done nothing for my knees (and thus plunged me into suicidal depression), I get murderous thoughts. One of the best things for me is how thorough Dr Patel is when he examines you. I am really a believer in the treatments here at Regenexx with Dr Patel. I had rotator cuff surgery on both shoulders and an a very active surfer and weight lift also to keep up my strength. All I want to do is surf until I'm old. I went to Dr Patel for a assessment on how to stay healthy and strong on operated tendons, which by definition are already weakened. I also had AC joint ACH I was. I decided on a PRP treatment. I was at first a little hesitant because Regenexx is definitely a little pricier than the usual ones I was seeing and once got at my ortho's office. But I had heard good things about Regenexx so decided to take the plunge. The entire thing lasted a few hours and it was a lot more involved and intense than the regular PRP shot at the Dr's office. They took many more vials of blood and the procedure lasted about an hour for both shoulders. We had about 3/4 injection sites each. I have to say that knowing what I know now about the procedure, the price is more than reasonable. It's not your regular old PRP spin and shoot. I am about 2.5 months post procedure and I can say that my shoulders feel great. Before, my AC joint and rotator cuff area would get sore and achy on a surf trip if I surfed 1-2 sessions for a few days in a row. I just went on a trip and surfed every day for 7 days and while definitely tired, no AC joint aches. I was pretty surprised. Amazing. I'm going to do another PRP later this year after the fall season just for good measure and probably keep it up as a maintenance routine. read more

I can't say enough great things about Dr Patel. I delt with chronic back pain for 2 years after an injury. I saw *literally* dozens of doctors in that time (MDs, DOs, acupuncture, Chiropractor, PTs, the list goes on) and nothing could help my back or even give me a clear diagnosis. Really when I was close to my last straw, I made a consultation with Dr. Patel. It was by far the most thorough examination from a Dr. I had had in the two years. He checked everything, even minor details I wouldn't have thought of. I ended up having the platelet transfer procedure and now a year later I am almost 100% better. My mobility/flexibility in my back has greatly improved, and my sciatica is completely gone! I still ache occasionally or will have a flair up day here and there...but this is nothing after being in significant / almost debilitating pain on the daily. Prior I wasn't able to do anything active besides walking, and now I am able to return to my life (hike, running, swimming, etc). So really I can't recommend and thank Dr Patel enough for his help! Dr. Patel is absolutely outstanding and he is the only one to go to! My 70 year old mother in law came to him for pain in her right knee and right foot. At the time she could barely walk or stand for more than thirty minutes and would have painful swelling every night. During the consult, Dr. Patel spent over an hour with her, he explained everything in detail, went over imaging and answered every question, even all the repetitive ones! He was so thorough and knowledgeable - We had never seen or experienced a doctor like this before. We learned more from Dr. Patel's consult than any other doctor we had consulted with. He was never rushed and his bedside manner with my mother in law was amazing - English is not her first language so it was important to me that she felt comfortable and cared for. As a doctor myself, I searched widely for options when I had a bulging disc in my low back that was causing a great deal of pain and dysfunction. I did PT for a few months and it helped but I needed more relief. Because of scoliosis in my spine, I was advised by a spine surgeon that there was no simple surgical fix. I found that many providers are doing procedures with PRP and stem cells, but Dr. Patel stood out as someone who really understands how to use these modalities and also takes the time to understand what is happening with one's individual anatomy. He not only addressed the disc bulge, but the underlying mechanisms that probably led to it. My initial evaluation over the phone was extensive and thoughtful. When I met Dr. Patel in person, he was just as thorough and thoughtful in his approach. The procedure went very well, with little discomfort. He explained my expected recovery very well and he was spot on! I experienced a step-wise improvement every few weeks. I asked him to do a second procedure 2 months later. It's been 5 months since my initial procedure and I am tremendously better. I can do almost all of the activities I used to do with little pain. I did a follow up MRI and the disc bulge actually has improved, which is consistent with what I feel! Granted I have also been doing everything Dr. Patel advised to support my healing, including extensive PT to rehab my spine. At this point, I am thrilled to no longer feel that surgery might be needed. I would even consider another procedure in hopes of even greater improvement. Dr. Patel never pushes a procedure and he even advised me to wait now and see if I improve more without another PRP. Dr. Patel saved my life and I had the best care. I went from competing at a high level in Crossfit to being suddenly crippled by lower back pain. I went to 7 different specialists for my problems, just to be told I could not be helped. Between years of time wasted with various physicians and specialized tests I was lead to my last hope at health link medical center with Dr. Patel. My hopes for help at this point was very minimal and becoming exhausted of my efforts to alleviate my pain. I scheduled a consultation with Dr. Patel and from that moment I got my life back. Dr. Patel is probably the best physiatrist I have come across! I had this strange issue in my upper arm near the biceps where I had this acute pain. I am not an athlete, just someone who works out 3-4 times a week. But this pain was getting worse to the point that could not lift my arm up properly. After going to couple of other experts through my insurance & not getting a good evaluation of what was going on. I decided to see Dr. Patel. From the moment I got there the receptionist was super nice and got me in quick. Dr. Patel took the time to talk to me in detail, I did not feel rushed at all. He did a very thorough exam of my movements & followed it up with an ultrasound. He diagnosed the issue right away and put me at ease. He got to the cause of what could have been causing this rather than just treating the area.
