Very expensive but nice for a special movie. I still find it annoying that the check is brought to you just as the movie is ending.

I love the Superlux seats and theaters despite it being a bit pricey - $28/per person which includes free popcorn and a $5 credit you can use towards food or drinks. We always end up spending a bit more because we order drinks (liquor) as well as apps or entrees. In my opinion, it cost around the same if you had gone out to a nice dinner and a regular movie..but instead you can watch a movie and eat at the same time. Here are a few other reasons why I prefer the Superlux over any other theaters: - it isn't crowded like other theaters, seats are reserved and spacious...and they're full size recliners which I can curl up in :) - there aren't obnoxious people around but occasionally you may hear people whispering esp if they came into the theater late and they need to order food - place isn't smelly (well its still new...) I didn't give 5 stars because you used to be able to order your food and drinks via the ipad directly and just hand it over to your server...but they have changed it to where you have to give the server your order, hence the talking when late comers come to the movie. I want to focus on watching the movie but I get easily distracted if people start talking in the middle of it. :( read more

DO NOT GO HERE! Before the movie began, we ordered Mac & Cheese from the Deluxe seats and it was delivered without silverware. We requested silverware but the server never returned. We finally found another employee and the silverware was eventually delivered. By that time the food was stone cold so we asked that it be replaced. It was never replaced. At least one other guest was also vocally complaining afterwards about her incredibly lousy "service." I had the feeling that the employees did more than not just care. It felt that they intentionally wanted to deliver a totally lousy experience. Finally after the film ended at 10PM we went to a nearby restaurant for dinner. Very insulting experience. read more

I have been here twice. Once as a date with my husband and once with my 2 daughters (9 & 13-- not the norm for them, but a fun treat to see Maleficent) and husband. I have only been in the SuperLux section. $28.00 per person... Includes wait service throughout movie, unlimited popcorn, and a $5.00 coupon towards food per ticket. After 6:00pm, it is for ages 21plus, before 6:00 all children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Walking in the outer lobby of the theatre you know it is going to be different. The red decor screams old time lux and the modern furniture says soooo today and tomorrow! The movie theatre itself has great acoustics and beautiful picture quality. The seating is oversized leather recliners with individual tray tables. Your waiter brings you an iPad and will take your order. Now the food is supposed to be from Davios Cucina...it is ok, but not what I would expect from Davios.. Even their signature "roll appetizers" we're just ok. Mixed drinks were fair to good. Why you can't just place the order through the iPad is beyond me. Service was slowish both times. 2nd time it was an 11:00am Sunday show. Not many people there, really no excuse for that, Summing it up-- love the theatre, love the seating, food is fair at best- go with apps. Order a beer, soft drink or wine- mixed drinks were meh. Seating in SuperLux is much better than LuxLite. I did enjoy both times I was there. Lose a star for food/slow service. Enjoy! read more

I agree with most of the other one and two star reviews. The food has been completely downgraded. I used to look forward to their delicious lobster pasta and other food items. Tonight, the Caesar salad was inedible. I literally took three bites and couldn't finish my meal. I ordered the Smores martini and the chocolate covered marshmallow tasted so stale and gross that I almost spit it out. The quesedilla was OK. My husband's French fries arrived cold. Bathroom was neglected. No TP in some stalls. No paper towels at the sink. Staff was good to us and allowed us to sit in empty seats. Superluxe dissapointed us. read more

This is my favorite movie theater to go to. I love the big comfy recliner seats, and I love how you can get food delivered right to you! BUT the food here is meh. More than once, I've ordered an appitizer/meal and it's come cold. My recommendation: get superlux seats (not lightlux) and only get a soft drink and popcorn. $5 of your ticket goes to food and drink, which covers your soft drink, and you get unlimited free popcorn! Since the tickets are so pricy, I try to go for long movies to get my money's worth. read more

This felt like a luxurious experience. Like flying first class versus coach. We arrived about 30 mins before movie. They showed us to our seat. First row of lux seats in the middle, which are definitely best seats in house. They give u an ipad with menu, you pick out what you want then push call button to bring over waiter. It would be so much better if you could place order on ipad and pay by swiping your card, then they just bring it over. Like they do in Laguardia. Make sure to ask for your free popcorn. We ordered thai chicken bites which were way too salty. The drinks were pretty good. The theater wasnt full, so waiters walking back and forth wasn't too annoying. I strongly recommend you arrive early and order food and drinks before movie. Overall, i would do it again. Especially for a long movie. The seats were so nice. I've been going semi-regularly to this theater since it opened in 2013. My last visit was a few days ago (I had the salmon, which was good). They've done a major overhaul to the front lobby area and also replaced the seats and carpets throughout, both of which were welcome. I've never experienced technical or projection issues, knock on wood. At times, the wait time for food has been longer in the last two years than it was in the past but they seem to have reacted to customer feedback and the service is once again pretty good. I have to say, I find some of these Yelp reviews either not credible or nitpicky about nonsense things. In over 6 years, servers have always swiped credit cards in your presence on their portable machines and handed them straight back to you. Several reviews have referenced people having their cards taken away by staff. That just...doesn't happen here. For whatever reason, this place has attracted overzealous Yelp posters from day one. The first few months the place was open (scroll down to see) they got dozens of bad reviews for meaningless things like "The carpets are too new - they smell like glue!" and "There are too many employees here". They later cut down on the number of visible staff, and predictably that then gets called out. Ticket prices for Super Lux were $28 previously with a $5 reduction taken off your food bill if you ordered food. In the last year, they eliminated this extra step and just made tickets $23 - and that's getting called out? You're paying the same price (And also benefiting if you don't order food!). This site should really be about more substantive issues or critiques (and ones which, incidentally, aren't made up) or else what is the point of Yelp? read more

I came here on a weekday night to see a movie for the first time at this location. The place was empty and I would assume it was because it was a weekday. I booked a regular seat which costs $20 not knowing the difference between the regular seat and the SuperLux seat offering. When I sat down in the theater your are limited to the seats closer to the screen and the seats don't recline. I went back to see how to upgrade to the SuperLux seats and found out they were an additional $8 for a total of $28. This includes unlimited popcorn, a $5 voucher for any concession, and power reclining seats. You also have the option to request a blanket if you happened to feel cold in the theater. So I decided to upgrade my seats and it was definitely worth it to me. If you decide to visit this location it may cost a bit more then a regular theater but you do get a server to bring you the concessions and the seat are very comfortable. read more

Have been coming here since they opened! First draw was the $5.00 off per person on your food bill and unlimited popcorn which came in a box ! Well no longer do you get the $5.00 discount and you no longer get the box of popcorn!! You can still get free refills but the popcorn is now in a small bag! Today's experience has been the most disappointing when we had to ask where the food order was after a 45 minute wait and the waitress seemed surprised we hadn't gotten our food order! She was the person who took the food order ! Our take is that at the moment Super Lux should be renamed "Sub Lux" until they get back to where they started!!! read more

I have been visiting this location since 2016. Initially, it seemed like an incredible experience! However, over the past couple of months (possibly a year), the service at this location has disappointed. Particularly, the last two times we visited, we had very bad experiences. Bad Experience 1: A few months ago, we purchased SuperLux tickets to see a movie. During the first couple of minutes of the movie, we heard loud talking and laughing from a rowdy group of people. After roughly 10 minutes, we attempted to call someone to speak with us. We had hoped someone in the staff could remediate the issue. No one ever came to speak with us. After 15 minutes, my fiancé got up from his chair and had to flag down one of the staff in the aisles. We kindly asked the staff if they could please ask the other group to keep the noise down, as it was very distracting to others trying to watch the film. After my fiancé spoke with them, they still never acted. We had to call over attendants at least two-three more times. At this point, we were about an hour into the movie. The group in the other row was still being loud. Ultimately, my fiancé had to go down to their seats and speak with them personally since no one was doing anything. We spent roughly $70 to watch that happen for about two hours. Bad Experience 2: Today, we visited again for another movie. When we arrived at the theatre, an attendant was present who looked at our ticket numbers and proceeded to take us to our seats. When we arrived, our group noticed that a person was sitting in one of the seat we had purchased. When we showed the attendant the ticket again and pointed to the seats, he just said "oh" and left. We then had to ask this lady why she was sitting in our seats. She said that there are a few open seats and we can sit in one of those. In an attempt not to make a scene, a member of our party just sat in an apparent open seat. That "open" seat was actually taken and so this lady sitting in our seats was now causing a ripple effect. About 20 minutes in, an attendant comes over to us and asked why we were telling people that they can take whatever seat they want. I'm not sure why the staff was getting upset with us. He also said to us that "people need to sit in the seats they bought because not doing so creates problems". Eventually, they made the person in our seat move so the whole thing got sorted out but this was all during the movie and very distracting. This all happened because the first attendant did not do his job correctly in the first place. For such an expensive experience, the service should be better. This was very disappointing. read more

I love this place so much that upon leaving I texted my sister saying to cancel any Christmas gifts as I only want gift certificates to this place. The seats are incredible, OMG the cocktails are awesome (props to the bartender), and the food was high-end restaurant worthy, I love this place. I didn't love the website or that I couldn't use my gift card to buy the tickets online, so I deduct a star for that. In the end, my movie experience cost us about $200 - cocktails, apps, dinner and tickets, its not cheap. However, as I have a toddler and need to pay a babysitter (ok, tack on babysitter fees), we were able to see a DINNER and a MOVIE in 1/2 the time, making that memory actually possible again. read more

I strongly feel that it hyped and the staff are not attentive. for 58$ its not worth it. 2 strats for the free popcorn and 5$ beverage credit. our fries never came for the first 40 mins and when it came it was soaked in oil. we ordered a diet coke which never came and i cancelled it when the movie was ending. total rip off. will never be back. read more

One of the perhaps unfortunate aspects of "moving back home" has been a tendency to watch Phantom Gourmet with my mother on Sunday mornings. This was actually something, in the five years I lived in New York, I actually kind of missed. While NYC has hidden gems seemingly down every avenue in every neighborhood, I'm actually surprised by how hard it is to find places I even want to go to here. Why am I bringing this up in a review for a movie theater? Phantom Gourmet is how I found out about this place - I believe on a feature about New England's best fries? Guys, I had the fries. They are everything. It's worth going just for that. Or for duck. On a pizza. But I didn't try that. I guess I'm just not that decadent. I did get a cocktail though. I wish I could tell you what it was, but it was amazing. Oh yeah you can drink here. One of the things I will say, this will be pretty much the price of going to see two or three movies on the cheap (especially if you go AMC matinees). Joselyne S. - who I suspect will be my newfound oft-mentioned Yelp partner-in-crime - was in tow for this experience, and we say "Insurgent" 'cause, well... she just read all the books and we wanted to see how the movie turned out. I love the backlit illuminated menus. Not too many options, actually. Again, it's a little much if you're not ready for it. But I believe Phantom prepared me for a "Superlux experience" and shucks, they were not exaggerating. I never get to the movies anymore, so this was kind of a nice, fun way to make a night of it and not worry about going to get something before or after. I will probably go back, but only when I want the moviegoing experience to be special. read more

For that special night out to the movies... SuperLux is the way to go... There are a lot of these types of Theatres popping up around New England. The terminology can get confusing: Lux Level means you get a soft chair with a folding tray table and the chance to order food whenever you want (the food is pretty standard pubstyle fare); Luxlite gives you a nice theatre style seat with the ability to order snack type food; SuperLux gives you a reclining chair and access to a bit more upscale menu. The SuperLux at Chestnut Hill is a nice option for dinner and a movie. You have to by your tickets in advance or at the door (but if it is a popular movie, better do it in advance). You actually select your seats as well. They have limited numbers of the SuperLux seats and so it pays to get tickets early. The seats are fairly comfortable. They recline and the foot rest comes up to 90 degrees. They are not as nice as a good recliner you might have at home. The waitstaff come around to take orders before the movie and then anytime you hit the "call light". It's sort of like how it works on a plane. The view of the screen is excellent from just about any of the SuperLux seats. The food is more upscale and you will be able to get entrees like salmon, pasta with lobster, steak, gourmet salads, high-end sandwiches etc. Some notable entrees are the caesar salad with Korean marinated steak and the SuperLux burger. A particularly fun appetizer is the fried green beans with asiago ranch dipping sauce. You can also get warm Rosie's chocolate chip cookies with milk which is perfect accompaniment to any movie. You get free unlimited popcorn and the drink menu is pretty comprehensive. Each ticket gets $5 toward your meal. The only knock on the SuperLux tickets is the price. You'll pay around $30 per ticket. Still for the comfort of the seats, having reserved seating, getting higher-end food, and all you can eat popcorn, it's not bad. We go SuperLux once in a while for a big blockbuster. For smaller films, I think SuperLux is overkill. read more

Love this theater....feels like entering an elite hotel lobby. Kudos to the Chef. This place has a chef - no short order cook here. Salmon was truly well prepared. Moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. Veggies on the side were so well seasoned, I hated to leave the few bites I couldn't finish. I've been to top-notch seafood restaurants that couldn't do it that well. Nice to recline, so nice the guy behind us was snoring...oh well, that happens at the regular theater, too. Server was very solicitous and took care of me right away when an item was missing from my order. The SuperLux theater in Chestnut Hill is one of my favorite places to go see a movie! While it costs $30 for a ticket, you get a free popcorn and a $5 voucher for any food, alcoholic beverage or drink. Seats are very comfortable and recline all the way back. This is my absolute favorite place to go for a movie, what better place. Food and drinks are served at your reclining seat. Also there is a Davio's in the building and a full bar/lounge area to chill at if you get there early..... you have to order as soon as you get in your seats, before the movie starts, to stop the interruption of enjoying the movie, food has been pretty good, especially for a movie theater.. no matter how many bad reviews I read, I still rather take my chances here, I can't go back to the regular movie theater experience, well unless I am out of state. It's really sad there is no other theater like this around.. they need competition to keep their game up.. I still give it 5 stars.. heading there on Saturday, hopefully I won't have to alter this review.. fingers crossed read more

We have been to Showcase SuperLux before but tonight's experience was atrocious. The waitress only responded to our call once and when she did, she brought us the completely wrong drink. Then, I had to go into the lobby to find someone to fix the mistake. And then NOBODY even apologized for the mistake. Our waitress also never took our food order so we got no food during our movie. We paid extra to sit in the SuperLux seats - but I honestly think we would have had better luck leaving the theater to get our own food and drinks. read more

Awful experience. The tickets are overpriced and you can't even get a human being to assist you with the ticket purchase. The only option is to buy tickets on their kiosks, where it's hard to tell which seats are close to the screen, etc. Once you're seated, on the other hand, there's no shortage of workers crawling all over you trying to sell you food and drinks. Most regular theaters are upgrading their seats anyway. No need to come to this place again. read more

Been here a handful times and have a love-hate relationship with this place, so I thought I'd break my review up into pros and cons. Pros: The comfiest seats of any movie theater in the greater Boston area, with reclining love seats and individual tables. The entrance is impressive- a large chandelier, a fully-stocked bar, and professionally dressed employees at every corner. The food offered during the movie is absolutely delicious (its prepare by Davio's restaurant next door). Some other pros are that they give you a $5 credit towards food or drink with your ticket purchase, you can pick your seats ahead of time, and the theater is spotless. Cons: Sadly, the cons can really outweigh the pros if you let it. First, I learned early on from coming here not to show up just before the movie if you plan to order food (as in 10 minutes or less before the movie is set to begin). If you do decide to order food just before the movie begins or during the movie, you may be waiting quite a while for your food. And it is very possible you won't get your food (or drinks for that matter) until just before the movie is about to end. This can be particularly frustrating when you paid nearly $60 for 2 people's tickets in the "superlux" section and have to rush to finish your food after the movie ends. Secondly, the pricing is borderline outrageous. Compared to its competitors, like the AMC Dine-in Theater in Framingham, Superlux is overpriced ($20-30 depending on where you sit versus $13 at AMC Dine-in to sit anywhere in the theater). Honestly, if it weren't for the amazing food and the convenience of location for me I probably wouldn't come back. read more

Showcase SuperLux Chestnut Hill - Cinema Near Me - Newton, Massachusetts

When you first get in, there's someone who will show you to your seat. The theater for SuperLux and Lux Lite are the same, the latter is seated in the first half of the theater near the front. They both get you a $5 voucher for food or drinks but I would honestly just go for the Super Lux if you're going to come here. The reclining seats are a lot more comfortable and you can see the movie from a better distance. You get unlimited popcorn as well. Service can be a bit slow. For Lite, you have to go up towards the exit to press the button or order through the server. For SuperLux there's a button at the seat that you can press and they'll come over. Sometimes it takes them a while to come over though. I've only had drinks and dessert here. Dessert portions are big and come out quickly. Drinks were good. It obviously gets pricy though, but it's a good treat to come here every once in a while! read more

I had been to movie theaters like this in Bangkok's Siam paragon and am so pleased to have found one here. Huge recliners, service of pretty decent food and better drinks during the movie, and very good quality sound and screen. What marred the experience a little for me was that servers take a long time to respond to the service call button, do not follow through with orders placed earlier, and sometimes have a bad attitude (for the money i am paying here and the fact that I am having an evening out the very LAST thing I want to have to deal with is a bad attitude or leering snickering sophomoric behavior from servers who should be just a little professional not to mention courteous. You think they had never seen a woman before! All in all a great place to go on a date, or to cuddle up with someone hot :) read more

I've been frequenting this place for years and have had mostly good experiences. However, during the past few visits, the theater and hallways smell like the toilet. This is the absolute best movie theater I've ever been to. I went last night to see the Incredibles 2 and had an amazing time. I chose the lite lux seat which was $22 for the ticket (a little pricey in my opinion) but you also get a $5 food voucher so it ends up being priced like a normal movie ticket. The seats reclined all the way back almost to a bed position. My reasoning for the for stars instead of five is simply the service. I heard several people complaining about not receiving their food throughout the theater and luckily my food came out quickly which was nice. Although my food came on time- my drink did not. I ordered a pina colada before the movie even started and I waited an hour into the movie and it never came. The servers aren't inside the theater so I had to leave my seat and the movie to go ask where the drink was. They clearly forgot about it and made it quickly and sent it over. They didn't really apologize or comp anything for the drink that took over an hour. Like I said, the place is great they just need to be more attentive when it comes to customer service. read more

I used to go to this theatre quite a bit. Now I'm pledged never to return. To me, honesty and fairness is of paramount importance. And I've found these two qualities lacking at Showcase SuperLux. Several bad things have happened, the worst shortly before pre-covid shut down. I was enticed to order food with two $5 coupons my wife got when she purchased a generous theatre pass for me. When I attempted to use them -- I would never buy food, which is a rip-off here w/o them -- the theater attendant got rid of them and the theatre manager told me Lux doesn't accept them anymore -- even though we'd just gotten them days earlier. She told me I would need to pay full price. Because they were gone I couldn't refer to them. I was so upset by this deceit I sent the entire gift card back to the theater with a note -- and they did not respond. Recently, expecting they'd be more humble, I got in touch with Showcase management. They admitted the coupons were valid, but, but likely at the request of the same theatre manager, they refused to provide any good-faith reimbursement, except to a different theatre not near my home. And for much less than my wife had spent on the gift card and I for paying extra for food I would not have ordered. These people seem to care very little about their customers, and about being honest. read more

The seats are great. The movie experience was terrific. We had no problem with speed of service (which was reported by others), but (1) the servers had difficulty determining which food went to what customer and got it wrong with every item we ordered in their first attempts to deliver. There must be some technology that the theater could install to correct this. (2) The chef's salad was pretty terrible. I will return but I now know what not to order! read more

Been here twice. Great concept, but badly executed. The less expensive seats ($20) are simply too close to the screen, like the first rows of a traditional movie theater. You can't see the whole screen at once, and you get a neck ache from trying. The "Superlux" seats ($28) are the right distance from the screen, but they're off-limits after 6pm if you have a family: nobody under 21 permitted! Management has told me several inconsistent reasons, ranging from "It's Massachusetts law because we serve alcohol" to "It's just Company Policy -- nothing to do with alcohol." None of the reasons make sense. My family got caught by this policy once (supposedly it's in the fine print on the tickets, but of course you don't get the ticket until AFTER you've paid online), and we had to leave the theater, ruining our evening. You can order food from your seat. This sounds decadent but actually it's annoying, because the servers walk through the aisles during the movie, talking and blocking your view as they deliver food. It's no fun to have your movie interrupted by someone asking for your credit card. The whole experience is weirdly uncomfortable too. You're sitting in this luxurious space, pampered by staff that, on their salaries, probably can't afford to watch movies here. How ironic that the first movie I saw here was "Elysium," a sci-fi fable about the huge divide between the ultra-rich and the rest of us. It made the SuperLux experience downright creepy.
