I saw Toy Story 5 with 4 friends at this theater and it was amazing. First, when we walked in they had the buzz lightyear anddd Pixar ball popcorn bucket. Let's gooo. These popcorn buckets can be hard to find (only at select theaters, while supplies last, etc.). We also saw Toy Story in their IMAX theater and the surround sound makes such a difference. Just know that if you're sitting in the front section of the theater, the chairs don't recline so you're really looking up at the screen. I can't wait to see Toy Story 5 again. read more

It's my local option for a movie theater, it's within walking distance or a very short drive, so it's usually the one I visit. Normally, I don't write reviews but I want to shout out some great customer service. I saw Spider Man Brand New Day today in their Dolby Cinema. The movie was great, and looked and sounded fantastic in that auditorium. No issues there. However, my seat was difficult to get to recline, and after leaving to use the restroom and return it wouldn't recline again. The controls seemed not to be working. I told one of the guys at the Customer Service counter because I figured they'd want to know so they could fix it. Without even asking for one, he offered me a pass for a free showing due to the issue and thanked me for letting them know which seat it was (I assume people are often less than gracious when they encounter issues like this. It is Boston after all, a place known for level-headed responses to inconveniences...). Major kudos to whomever that was. Why only 3 stars? The common areas are looking a bit worn these days. I assume this location is one of the busier ones in the area though. I've also had them be out of butter for popcorn on a random weekday at like 6pm when it wasn't even busy. I've never had an issue with cleanliness in the auditoriums. The bathrooms can get rough when it's busy, and they could use some updating. The IMAX here is not a full-sized one, but it is still larger than most in multiplexes (it's no Jordan's Reading, but it's much better than the Boston Common AMC) and is 1.85 or 1.90:1. However, unless something is shot for IMAX I would say you should do the Dolby Cinema instead here as it has reclining seats and it's the same aspect ratio, I believe. Overall, very solid local theater that's starting to show wear and tear because it's busy. The theaters are clean, in my experience. However, I was particularly impressed by the staff today. read more

I had never been to the AMC at Assembly Row before and was honestly surprised to find out that only the front seats recline. Imagine paying almost $20 just to sit upright the whole movie AWFUL! It was a busy rainy night, so the theater felt crowded and a little uncomfortable overall. Between everyone coming in wet from the rain and the amount of people there, it definitely wasn't the most relaxing movie experience. One thing I did think was interesting was that the popcorn is already laid out so you can walk up and grab the one you want, but unfortunately the popcorn itself was stale and just not good at all. Pretty gross and $37 later (with the drink). The escalators also weren't working, so we had to walk all the way up. I didn't mind too much because hey, extra steps for the day, but what really stood out to me was that the elevator was also out. If someone needed accessibility accommodations, that would've been a serious issue. I did like that the parking garage is directly connected to the theater which made getting in and out convenient, but overall this isn't a theater I'd rush back to. read more

I've been to AMC Assembly Row only once, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. My movie was scheduled for 11:30 AM, but the actual movie didn't start until 12 PM. I asked a staff member why there was such a long delay, and she explained that it was normal and that they show about 30 minutes of advertisements before the movie. I find that ridiculous. Paying for a movie ticket and then being forced to sit through 30 minutes of advertisements is excessive. On top of that, the volume during the movie was extremely loud--far louder than what I would consider a comfortable or reasonable level. It became unbearable, to the point that I couldn't even finish the movie. Between the excessive advertisements and the painfully loud sound, this was not an enjoyable movie-going experience read more

27 minutes of previews and ads. I ended up paying more for parking because of that. Also, the seat numbers are between seats, everybody was sitting off by one and the whole row had to move to accommodate the last person. read more

I am genuinely concerned for the future of movie theaters. They charge an arm and a leg for broken chairs, that squeak when you move. Loudly might I add, stale popcorn and 30 mins of previews. I was ready for bed by the time the movie stared. If the seats weren't so uncomfortable I probably would have. Wish I could just stream everything. read more

Overall an OK movie going experience. Lots of movie options and even an IMAX theater. The facilities are lacking though, bathrooms are usually dirty and in need of servicing. The soda machines are always out of at least a few options. During our most recent trip I found the audio system extremely loud and unpleasant. My eardrums were hurting. The theater was also really cold. If they took a little extra care of the place, it would really be improved. read more

Solid movie theater, easy to get to and always a good time. They even have a full bar where you could get yourself a drink while watching the movie. However, easy to see what movie theaters are becoming a thing of the past. $6.00 for a bottle water and another $6.00 for a Diet Coke! Last night I went to the AMC Assembly IMAX to view The Odyssey. I have been coming to this theater since its opening and it has gone way downhill. First, all the escalators, on the biggest movie weekend so far, were shut down. There were no signs posted indicating alternate modes of going up to the cinema areas but I eventually found an elevator. Secondly, one of my friends felt like having a drink and I offered to get it for her. The bartender had no customers and was busy scrolling his phone. I asked him if he could make this drink and he very curtly looked up at me and said an unapologetic "NO" and turned right back to his phone. I just bought some of their high priced bottled water instead. If someone who actually runs this place sees this review this happened at the 6PM show on August 2. Then there was a lot of confusion with people getting seated as the seat numbers in certain rows were not readily visible. People were constantly told to change their seats while the movie was running. And the cup holders had balled up napkins and tissues (gross) still in them. However, I think my biggest complaint was the bartender attitude, I guess you people don't care if you make any money there! read more

So getting to this AMC theater is pretty easy. It's located in Somerville at the assembly. I opted for the free parking. We have Bob store and TJ Maxx, etc. located. This is easy parking cost is free and it's only half a block to the theaters front door. For bad weather days there is a parking garage right next-door to AMC's front door I would up for this in the rain or snow. Once you walk in, you can use the self purchase kiosks or as I prefer a real human that still tickets and seating advice. The young lady that helped me was extremely knowledgeable on the films and was very polite and helpful. Moving up the escalators, two floors to your main lobby where are your snacks? Popcorn drinks, etc. located. This AMC, like many of the others have the free refill when you remember of the large popcorn. On this particular trip, I ordered the large popcorn and I was going to get my refill after the movie was over. Unfortunately, when my movie ended, it was 11 o'clock and the concession stand was closed and they've already disposed of all the popcorn. I was lucky enough to get a nice supervisor David Diaz who guaranteed me a popcorn on my next trip there since there was none available, which was my request with one of the workers who introduced me to him. Kudos to David and the rest of the staff who was extremely polite and well-made and handled my dilemma in real time. My only negative on this particular trip where the seats which I was unaware, but they are not the big power recliners like in Woburn and South Bay. Nevertheless, they were very comfortable and they were big and cushioned well. The stater was extremely clean except for the men's bathroom before the movie. There were paper towels in and trash all over the floor and a couple hours later after the movie it was the same I was extremely surprised. I would definitely recommend this movie theater as it has. I believe somewhere between 13 and 16 screens and is very well presented and easy access to major new films. read more

There is no other movie theater location more convenient for me than Assembly Row. Parking is super easy and free as long as the movie is under two hours. A complete unknown made us exceed the 3 hour limit if you account for concessions and commercials. The little theater (probably #3 but I am not sure) had terrible seats. Cushioning was worn so badly that I would have been more comfortable on a wooden board. read more

Went to a movie today 12/28/25. From the start- escalator broken, out of every hot item on the menu, popcorn cold and butter stations all broken with piles of old butter in trays. The popcorn stations were filthy (like have not been cleaned in months or longer). Bar area closed. Seats dirty and greasy. This is during a time that they should be full stocked, staffed and ready for winter break. Terrible terrible terrible. Will not be coming back. So disappointing for the money spent. No one to even speak to about it while there. read more

Came here to watch the much awaited Meg Ryan rom-com 'What Happens Later' tonight! We've been here once before too. Great location right in the mall here at Assembly Row! Lots of parking! This theater is great has many screens and the seats are very comfy! Leather chair seating. Screen is big and sound quality is good. Common areas were clean and restrooms were clean too. I went to see the Shazam and also John Wick: Chapter 4 at this theater. I was disappointed that the up escalator was not working. So it's a workout to get to the theater floor from the entry. The theater is nice. The concessions was a little confusing but it seems like the regulars knew what was going on. The popcorn sucked though. They had a lot of popcorn pre-made and it was stale like it was from several days ago. :( So that sucked for a 3hr movie. I'm not sure why they had so much pre-made popcorn. It was under heat lamps but that just made it warm and stale. read more

This is my thing......I love the movies. It's my safe space, where I go to decompress. And I love Assembly, so when they put AMC there, I was delighted. It used to be a fine establishment. Everyone knows movie theater food ain't ever worth the figure.....so that's not what you should come here for. The Mac & Cheese bites though......gimme 72 of 'em right now! Lol, but in terms of the environment... As the years have gone by, this place has gone downhill. 'Downhill' ain't even the word. It's, well, like most people are saying...sleepy, dirty, sticky, smelly, etc. And a sticky seat here and there is normal, but it just makes me really sad to see a place I love get treated so horribly. I mean, you have people such as myself who pay the membership fee because of their love of film....you'd think management would do right by their loyal patrons who help keep theater business alive. But bathrooms are a hot mess ALWAYS, soda machines out of service, theaters are really dirty from prior screenings. If you actually want to enjoy a movie, maybe just stay home. The theater itself is fine, but the overall experience? Awful. The staff couldn't care less. People were openly on their phones the entire movie--texting, scrolling, lighting up the theater like it's a concert. There was talking, disruptions, zero courtesy. And look, I get that's not 100% the staff's fault, but when it's brought to their attention, they should at least pretend to care. No follow-up. No effort. Just a shrug and "sorry." When did people get so disrespectful? It's two hours. Put your phone away. It'll still be there when the credits roll. Spending $30+ on a movie and food just to sit in a room full of glowing screens and loud conversations? No thanks. Not worth the price, not worth the hassle. read more

It is so cold. I can't explain how cold it is without calling to mind the arctic. It doesn't matter what the outside temp is, inside is positively freezing. I left my movie from discomfort, wearing a tshirt and Jean pants, in June, because it was so cold i genuinely thought I'd go into shock if I stayed. The area outside the theaters is normal temp but the theatre is a tundra. I had long full jeans and a top and nearlt cried from the cold. Plus the movie didn't start on time. I would rather kick my grandma than sit in those temperatures for 1-2 hours I actually couldn't sit through my whole movie because of the temperature. I was wearing jeans and a tank top very weather approaiate But I was so cold I had to leave halfway through. Purely bc I was so cold I stopped having thoughts. FIX YOUR BATHROOMS!!!!!The women's bathroom was the most horrid thing I have ever witnessed. There was only ONE remotely clean stall, and yet it had toilet paper all over the ground. 90% of stalls had clogged toilets, feces or urine, toilet paper covering the ground, and one stall had clumps of hair. do better. read more

BATHROOMS ARE SO NASTY- sinks and soap dispensers were broken, toilets didn't flush, pee stains everywhere, dirty stalls in general... clearly had not been cleaned for a while. It was very noticeable when exiting the women's bathrooms that they had not been cleaned for a while and a lot of women were disgusted by this as well lol especially during the end of the movie. As for the movie theatre itself, it was also pretty dirty. The floors had popcorn spilled everywhere... looks like it hadn't been cleaned for a while. Run of the mill movie theater. It seemed a bit run down and dated but it was fine for watching a movie. It had the big seats with 2 cup holders each, which was great, but the seats only rocked back and forth and didn't recline or have a foot rest, so that could be improved. What used to be a beautiful movie theater is now a broken, dilapidated unmanaged mess. I understand that blockbuster movies are not a thing at the moment, but please avoid this movie theater at all costs. The place was falling apart, they sold us chairs that didn't even recline properly and were broken (see picture). Don't get me started on the concessions, which had no CO2 for the drinks but they were still selling them. We went to see the Metropolitan Opera's Tosca. 1. When the show started (I assume it was a broadcast) there was audio but no sound. 2.Then the audio disappeared and we had to wait (I'd guess) 5 minutes, with a few audience members going out to find someone to talk to, before the show commenced. 3. When it did it was projected at the wrong aspect ratio -- the top and bottom extended beyond the screen, making it hard to read the subtitles. More audience members went out to find someone. Probably another 5-minutes before this was fixed. 4. When Act III came on, after an intermission, the house lights stayed on. Again, more audience members went hunting for someone. My impression is that nobody there is paid to care much whether the show goes smoothly. read more

I was very pleased with my first experience at the Assembly Row AMC! Hands down a much more enjoyable experience than the Boston Common location. Updated, clean, & comfy trumps all. The Assembly Row AMC is conveniently located just a 5 minute walk from the Orange Line and in the heart of so many shops, restaurants, and activities. When arriving for our movie, we went up the escalator, 2 sets to be exact, and finally met a front desk for tickets to purchase or scan if pre-bought. I was a little surprised by the set up for concessions. There was a long line for a grab & go popcorn. Then, once you grab your size popcorn, you loop into another line to pay and purchase more snacks or drinks. It was organized, but took so much longer than expected. Unfortunately, as well, only one of the 5(?) butter dispensers was working, as well. We bought tickets for the cozy rocking chair seats. Really nothing to complain about. Seems that the front rows and the sides were the recliners. I'll be back! read more
