Been awhile since coming to view a movie here at AMC, but it still looks the same and it's well maintained! The staff are helpful and the theater are kept super clean! Tonight was a very quiet and light traffic so each theater had very little viewers to watch the feature films! But it was enjoyable to have no distractions from others! read more

I've been here a couple of times since moving to the Boston area: to see Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, The Whale, and most recently the rerelease of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone with my wife. Unless you live downtown or work in the city and catch a movie on your way home there isn't much reason to visit this theater. There are more screens here than Assembly Row or AMC Causeway, but it's less modern. Due to the number of screens there are sometimes events that are only shown here within the area as well. I can tell that this used to be a very nice theater. However, it's in desperate need of renovation. It probably wouldn't take much. Refreshing the lobby, replacing the carpet in the hallways, and maybe an update to some of the larger auditoriums with recliners or AMC's club rockers. It doesn't even need to be all the the auditoriums, especially since there are 19 of them and even though they are just standard seats (outside of the IMAX and Dolby Theater) they're still decent. A word of caution that the IMAX here is a scope screen (so, not as tall as an IMAX usually is, even at a typical chain theater). The Dolby Cinema is good though and better than this location's IMAX. They're still the two best screens here and I would try to book either if you visit this location over any of the others. AMC could return this to a flagship theater experience by renovating common areas and say... 2 auditoriums (into Prime, or additional Dolby Cinemas). Right now though, it's dirtier with fewer amenities and a more difficult to reach (unless you're already downtown) than your other options in the area. All screens are laser projection though, and even 25 (yikes) year old Harry Potter looked fantastic (but Causeway and Assembly are also all laser, too). The employees looked to be doing their best, so I hope AMC invests the money to update this theater. read more

I'm an AMC Lister, and this is my home base. I see at least a movie here a week. The staff is great, the food is exactly what you'd expect, and they take good care of the theaters themselves. That all having been said, I have to wonder what is going on with the plumbing? The bathrooms are always filthy with several stalls being out of order, generally marked with paper towel signs and black trash bags. The ones that aren't out of order are blown out, and the whole downstairs area smells like toilet. It's not a problem when you're in the theater but it's an absolute war zone once you get out these days. read more

When your favorite Studio Ghibli movie is playing you must go! That's Kiki's Delivery Service for me! Love that film - watched it during the pandemic at home. So was thrilled they were showing it on IMAX for very limited showings! Got in just in time! Parked at the garage round the corner through SpotHeroabout $20. Screen was nice good picture and sound quality. Seats were comfortable not reclining but still nice. Felt cozy. Great movie! read more

This theater is definitely on the older side and the seats could use a bit of an upgrade. They were fairly comfortable but not as plushy as other new movie theaters! I love the size and cleanliness of the theater and the employees were all friendly and easy to interact with. They also have more premium theaters such as Dolby and IMAX. In the regular theaters, the sound and picture quality is very good. I love how they play a lot of indie movies as well. It's very easy to get here with the T being right across the street! There are also ample restaurants and coffee shops nearby for before or after a show! read more

Second visit to this theatre. I love how large each theatre is, makes the viewing experience feel epic; as the screen is huge no matter where you sit. The theatre itself seems to be staffed by a skeleton crew. At least it seemed this way during my visit, just one person to check you in and one person at concessions. Lines moved quickly despite this. I have a list and saw two movies during my visit. The employee would not let me check in for both at the same time. Meaning I had to see my first movie, leave my snacks at the concession stand, and then hurry to take an elevator to the lobby to check in. The down escalator was not working and you had to either take the elevator or walk down the emergency stairs. I do really enjoy this theatre. It's grand in scale and very quiet. read more

I'm an A-lister. This is THE dirtiest AMC location I've ever been to and I visit all my nearby AMCs. It's like the managers here don't care about cleaning this place at all. Once I even saw a rat running across an empty auditorium. Facilities are old. Probably never upgraded anything other than putting the Dolby there and renovated the IMAX after the Loews merger. Both the IMAX and Dolby screens are only of 1:2.39 aspect ratio. Crowded, old, filthy . You're better off going to another nearby theatre. read more

This AMC theater is conveniently located feet away from the entrance to the Boylston green line T station. With 19 screens, including IMAX screens, it's easy to find the big blockbuster movies but some of the smaller indie ones as well. Each theater itself is also massive compared to other local AMCs. Due to it being more original, there's no recliner seats just fyi...at least the specific theater I was in. They have concessions, popcorn was good! AMC Boston Common 19 is one of the older movie theaters. It was one of my favorite locations to go to, growing up, because it was much bigger than all the ones that were closer by to me! Now, it looks a bit dated inside. Still ginormous inside though. The seats are older, and ruffed up for sure. You won't find recliner seats here, not that I have at least. I do enjoy going here to catch a movie when I'm in the city! Nowadays, I prefer just driving down to South Bay AMC instead because the parking situation in this area is horrendous, however, if I'm nearby & traveling via train, this is not a bad location to go to! Never experienced anything bad really. I'd say, the only actual downside is finding parking, unless it's Sunday, when parking is free in the city. read more

Stopped in for a movie recently. The individual theater we were in itself was fine (not reclining seats but decent), however the theater as a whole was DIRTY! Tried using the restroom after the movie and if the stalls weren't unflushed or out of toilet paper, they were covered in black plastic bags! I had to visit two restrooms before I found a stall that was "OK". So much popcorn and mess on the floors. This was an early week night, so I can only imagine later at night on the weekends. I get that popcorn is a mess in itself, but shouldn't there be someone cleaning that up as the night goes on? I felt like I needed to go home and take a shower. read more

This theater is filthy all of the time. The bathrooms are particularly bad. Most of the time many of the stalls are out of order. I've never been there when the floor wasn't sticky. Even the escalators are sticky and laden with trash. This theater gets a lot of traffic but it seems to be neglected in terms of cleanliness. read more

AMC Boston Common 19 is a huge theater. The first floor has Auditorium 1 and Auditorium 2. All the other auditoriums are upstairs. It was easy to reserve the tickets online. There are also kiosks once you walk into the theater to purchase tickets as well. The lobby is very spacious. I went on 12/10/2023 at 3:30pm to see Waitress: The Musical. For a short period of time, AMC theaters were bringing the Tony-nominated Broadway phenomenon to the big screen. My friends and I enjoyed and seen Waitress on Broadway so we definitely wanted to take advantage of this opportunity. The seats didn't recline like other AMC theaters, but the seats were in okay condition. At one point during the movie, someone pushed the emergency exit door on the left of the screen and the alarm didn't go off. A security guard came soon after to check out the emergency exit. I am not sure what was going on but the movie continued to play. The concessions were all upstairs. The bathrooms were clean. The sound was good and clear. read more

I just called to ask about a refund for a movie that was canceled and the associate was unhelpful (maybe his first day he seemed confused I was even asking about a movie) then said he would transfer me to a manager then hung up. I used a voucher to purchase my tickets and those were not refunded so employees should be knowledgable on resolving this issue or at least not hang up on people. read more

This is your typical movie theater in a big city. It was a rainy Sunday after a brunch at the Friendly Toast. We were looking for something fun to do indoors and wanted to check out Shang-Chi. This must have been the main thing to do on a Sunday because the theater was packed. I was not initially prepared to be in a packed theater with people but I went ahead anyways. By the end of the movie, I realized how much I missed seeing great blockbuster hits on opening weekend with a great crowd reaction. The movie aside the overall experience was great. I enjoyed the kiosks present on the first floor to let you purchase your own ticket. Shang-Chi had an option to watch with Mandarin subtitles which I did not realize. I was confused at first but it didn't bother me. The concession line was long so I skipped it to make it to the movie in time. Overall, great option to watch a movie in Boston. The only thing that would make this better would be reclining seats. read more

I was here today with my kids for a 4:15 show and the manager was extremely rude! He would not let me bring a small crate rolling cart upstairs in theater that had my bag in it! I asked if could just leave the cart but take my tote bag with me up and he said NO in a rude tone and said I'll issue you a refund! My kids were extremely sad and a whole bunch of other people went up with bags! I don't understand why we were targeted but his costumer service was horrible! I was here last May to catch a matinee showing of Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. I purchased my ticket on the mobile app, but the movie theater lobby was not opened until about 30 minutes before the start of the movie. The movie theater was pretty clean, but the seats were the older, smaller, non-reclining seats. I might be a bit spoiled, but I almost expect every AMC movie theater to have those big, comfy, lounging recliners. The picture and sound quality was good. Super cool movie theatre! The entrance lobby area has all the kiosks available so that you can purchase your ticket. Adult tickets are almost $16.. wow hehe. We decided to watch the grudge. Bought our tickets and headed upstairs. The upstairs is where the concessions stands and theaters are located. Wow the concessions line was huge! It was like a party upppp here. We decided to skip the line and just go without snacks. We're so used to the reclining seats in az so it was weird to see they still had the old fashioned seats. It was still pretty comfy though. The movie was a no but the theater experience was fairly good. The bathrooms were a little wrecked and paper was overflowing from the bins.. actually all the trash cans were like this. Date of Visit: 8/30/21 Our flight back home from Boston was delayed, giving us a little more time in Beantown and this little ditty was just ten minutes away from our hotel where our luggage was stashed. The hallway outside of the IMAX has posters of movies set in Boston, which I think was a very clever touch. We were able to catch a screening of Free Guy on the IMAX, and the experience was solid all around, though I would not recommend sitting anywhere but the middle as the side aisles have a large railing that will totally obscure your view of the screen. Staff interaction was minimal but nothing to complain about and I am still puzzled as to why the nicest screen in the theatre still has older-style, non-reclining seats. read more

Theater 12 today smelled like we were living in an ashtray. It was really hard to enjoy the movie with the stench. It felt like a lot of cigarettes had been smoked in there. The toilet outside the theater had an issue where water was running fast and noisy and unable to be stopped. It was so environmentally wasteful but also very noisy. I wouldn't go back. Pre-Pandemic this place was the movie theatre go to when you were bored at home and wanted to see a film. Last week I went to the theater with my friend to see Ghost Rite Here Rite now. Soon I walked into the lobby a weird sewage odor filled the lobby and the place was so dark. I guess they got rid of usher and replaced them self service machine. The theatre my friend and I was in wasn't that bad, but concession stand looked horrible. The worse part was the broken escalator going down people had to walk down and I felt bad for my friend who has a bad knee. It is not worth the 18.00 I spent as this theatre opposed to the 12.00 I spent going to Alamo theatre got better services read more

I have Been coming here since my high school days. The cinema has 19 screens can sit 4500 people. I enjoy a good movie on a rainy day the customer service is great overall. They have a bar in the second floor get tipsy while watching the movie. The snacks are kinda pricey but hey they have to profit some how. I recommend this cinema and right across the street you have the Boston commons walk around and enjoy the view and park. 4 stars as they have not fully upgraded every screen room with those comfy seats only if you are watching in 3D read more

I stumbled upon the theater while walking in the park around the Boston Commons area & decided to catch a movie. The movie megaplex has two levels, 19 screens with stadium seating including IMAX seats. Special amenities consist of assisted listening devices, closed captioning & descriptive video to name a few. However there are no big red comfy power recliners as more theaters are upgrading to which was slightly disappointing, especially being tagged as a megaplex. Additionally, the theater could use a good old fashion cleaning. All the employees especially the customer service & concession folks were really welcoming & helpful, so helpful, that I was able to charge my phone while I waited for my movie to start. Pricewise, the $16 ticket to see a non-blockbuster movie wasn't really worth it, yet to try a new theater for the 1st time & receive friendly patron service, balanced it out. read more

It's not that this my go-to place whenever I just wanna chill but it was too cold to be walking around Chinatown that night. So I decided to just watch a movie that I didn't even finish at this location since is the closest one to Chinatown and I was in the area. I pretty much saw all the movies out that night. So I decided to just pick this chill one and I wasn't able to finish the movie I watched but it's fine. I was just killing time while waiting for my boyfriend to get out of work. Less than. Half way of the movie he got out so. I met him somewhere close to government center. I like this location of amc since it's really convenient. It's in the middle of Boston and you can just walk around close by restaurants in the area and some of them close late too. It also has a bar that you can get some drink while watching the movie and get lit!! Lol seats doesn't recline but it's fine. It's not a big deal for me. It's not perfect but you'll still enjoy watching your movie read more

What happens when you don't know what to do while in Boston when the sun goes down and you are an AMC stubs member? You go to the movies alone! And that's exactly what I did last week. This massive movie theatre was located right down the street from my hotel and boasted quite possibly the biggest walkway and largest theater I've ever been too. It took approximately 8 minutes from entrance to theater because of how large the place actually was. The staff I dealt with were friendly enough and the building itself was pretty nice. The food area had plenty of lines and the same general movie theater options you would expect. Why am I only giving it 3 stars? Because In 2019 every single movie theater should have recliner seats and nothing is worse (movie theater wise) then finding out you have to spend 2 1/2 hours sitting in the extremely uncomfortable old school style seats that this movie theater boasts. That's my entire review pretty much. You have a great building with horrible seats, but if this is the only option you have while in Boston, it'll do. read more

This review mainly concerns the screens at the theater, for people who are looking for premium formats! Quickly, like many movie theaters, this theater is definitely understaffed, the ground floor concessions stand is permanently closed, the escalators are sometimes out of order. Despite that, the many bathrooms are always pretty clean, as well as the theaters, and the crew is very nice. Now to the screens, there is a clear lack of premium options despite the 19 screens. Auditorium 2 is a fake 1:2.39 aspect ratio IMAX, not much larger than a standard screen at an updated theater in the suburbs. The only thing that makes this IMAX worth it is that the standard screens here are pretty tiny. The seats are also small and packed close together. There is one Dolby screen, Auditorium 14. This is easily the best screen in the building. The screen is nearly as big as the IMAX, the projector is much better, and there are recliners. All 17 other screens are standard, and small ones at that, with the same seats as the IMAX. With the recent release of Oppenheimer, it becomes pretty clear that renovating Auditoriums 1+2 to true 1:1.43 IMAXes capable of 70mm or LASER projection would make this theater, the only AMC in Boston proper, a destination for blockbuster films. In addition, upgrading at least 4 more standard screens to Dolby with recliners would also be a benefit based on the crowded Dolby screens and barren standard screens on weekdays. The extra seats are not more profitable when no one uses them! Moviegoers and casuals are a lot wiser now, and only venture out to the theater when they truly need to. Going to the theater is now a premium experience, and the screens and seats should reflect that. For now, this is my guide for this theater. First choice, Dolby. Sit in the third or fourth row from the back. Sitting towards the side doesn't matter too much. Second, IMAX. Sit towards the center. Finally, standard. Sit towards the front of the main clump of seats. I love this theater, the staff, and its location, but it hurts to sit in the IMAX or standard and see its potential being squandered due to the fact that business is probably okay when it could be great. This should be the AMC Lincoln Square of Boston, instead this theater would be barren if it wasn't the only one in the middle of the city. Maybe by the time Dune II comes out in a year the IMAX will be good! Hopefully! Yeah it won't. read more

I have a love-hate relationship with this AMC. I love that this was one of the first mega movie complexes that came to my neighborhood many, many years ago, and redefined the city movie experience. I've probably come back here several hundred times to catch movies as a bachelor, then later as a husband, with extended family, and even now as a father of three. This place is an institution in our family memories. I hate that the place still looks like it did the year they opened. It's dirty, small, needs a complete facelift, and needs to add...... SOMEthing. I mean, it doesn't share the same status as that other old family institution at Fenway Park, which boasts being the last original (and dirty) baseball stadium. Nay.... this AMC is just kinda gross. Yes, I'll keep coming back, only because I don't really have anywhere else to go in the city. Maybe they can add some better food choices or good pizza? My friend and I saw Dark Phoenix here on a Friday afternoon before our flight back home. We had some time to kill, and it was raining, so this seemed like a good spot. The interior is absolutely huge---you couldn't imagine its size until you step inside. The architecture is also fantastic, it is visually so interesting, including old movie posters, giant movie snack displays, a bar and lounge, photo opportunities with movie character cutouts, huge windows overlooking the city, and more. Just an awesome environment. We purchased tickets from the self-serve kiosk (no human interaction is nice), experienced no lines, and were easily able to find our theater up the long escalator and down an even longer wide hallway. Seats were not assigned but were still very comfortable and stadium-style. The screen itself was huge as well---they did not cut corners here! If I lived in the area, I would see movies here all the time. read more
