Big love for HFA. The most interesting, diverse selection of films that you probably would never otherwise know about or see.

There is always something playing here that I haven't seen before and I love their showcases. A true gem.

A friend of mine was visiting the area and we went to see a movie here. She is so jealous she can't go all the time! Check it out!

Good place to see old films - but october 09 - and no vintage horror flicks - what's wrong with that picture !

The staff have always been friendly and the food is good and has always been fresh. They also have a membership program, where for a flat rate you can see as many movies as you like (*special engagements not included). Fully worth it. Especially if you're someone who enjoys the art of filmmaking beyond the revolving door of "Dwayne The Rock Johnson jumps out of an explosion" movies that first run theatres consistently play. Lots of classics, as well as modern movies. Definitely my favorite theatre in the city.

My friend and I went to see the matinee showing of An American Tail: Fievel Goes West on an original 35mm borrowed by RISD (which I thought was pretty cool). Forgive the blasphemy but the theater does give off high school auditorium vibes: I wish there was a bit more of an incline for the seats further back and the seats themselves are not super comfortable. There is a balcony, however, that I might check out next time. Convenient location with lots of great restaurants around for a pre-/post-show meal or drink. Parking is tricky but only if you're coming from the direction of JFK Street (avoid if possible). Use Mt Auburn Street instead - more parking options and a lot less traffic. 2-hr meter options only and the ticketing is aggressive. If you're here for a movie and a show, definitely recommend moving your car at some point to avoid a ticket.

These popcorn buckets can be hard to find (only at select theaters, while supplies last, etc.). We also saw Toy Story in their IMAX theater and the surround sound makes such a difference. Just know that if you're sitting in the front section of the theater, the chairs don't recline so you're really looking up at the screen. I can't wait to see Toy Story 5 again.

Imagine paying almost $20 just to sit upright the whole movie AWFUL! It was a busy rainy night, so the theater felt crowded and a little uncomfortable overall. Between everyone coming in wet from the rain and the amount of people there, it definitely wasn't the most relaxing movie experience. One thing I did think was interesting was that the popcorn is already laid out so you can walk up and grab the one you want, but unfortunately the popcorn itself was stale and just not good at all. Pretty gross and $37 later (with the drink). The escalators also weren't working, so we had to walk all the way up. I didn't mind too much because hey, extra steps for the day, but what really stood out to me was that the elevator was also out. If someone needed accessibility accommodations, that would've been a serious issue. I did like that the parking garage is directly connected to the theater which made getting in and out convenient, but overall this isn't a theater I'd rush back to.
