We had a disappointing experience at this restaurant. The grilled fish sandwich took 35 minutes to arrive, which felt quite long given the circumstances. The portion was very small and the fish had an unusual appearance, somewhat resembling processed lunch meat rather than a fresh fillet. The restaurant was not busy at all during our visit, as we were only one of two tables, which made the experience feel even more underwhelming given the wait and pricing. We were visiting from out of state while dropping our son off at college, and unfortunately this meal did not meet our expectations. Came here craving oysters and ended up having a really pleasant, if mixed, experience. Service was the highlight--Harrison Daniels was an excellent server. Professional, calm, confident, and genuinely attentive. Jordan at the host stand was also welcoming. Even near closing, no one made me feel rushed. The oysters were fantastic--fresh, flavorful, and clearly from a new shipment. That's exactly what you want to hear. Pinot Grigio paired well. The gumbo was just okay (rice undercooked), and the crab legs were unfortunately oversteamed and rubbery. That was disappointing. Simi-local here. Shrimp Basket is one of my go to places when in town. I don't recall ever having a subpar server. Everyone is always friendly and accommodating. We always ask if the food is spicy. We were told that it was not. That was not true. Not only was it spicy, but it was very greasy. Were very strong and not good at all. The best thing was the shrimp. The service was fine but the young man who waited on us had a very deep voice and he did not speak loud enough for me to hear you. He did an excellent job. He just needs to speak up a little bit. The ambiance was lacking too. Someone at the bar was on their phone the whole time and had it on speaker. We could hear both sides of the conversation. I went here yesterday with my wife and my grandkid overall not a pleasant experience. The food was alright nothing too fancy and a tad overpriced. On the upside my server Jay was really good and pretty charismatic. The only other complaints I would have is with the management, The manager was slow with making our drinks and obviously too overbearing on her servers when there was barely anyone in the restaurant. In fact she was kinda rude to the customers and her coworkers. It's a shame because I used to love this place and I have no complaints about their servers they did a great job especially Jay. I visited this establishment one day for lunch. The host was polite, the restaurant was clean. However, I did not appreciate having to sit in the dining area and having to hear one of the workers in the back yelling at her co workers, I asked one of the employees if everything was ok, and it was the kitchen manager. Managers are supposed to be leaders not bullies, she is incredibly loud and obnoxious. The food was good, but i would gladly sacrifice quality for a better social atmosphere. Right off 59, this is a good place to stop especially if you are traveling with your dogs. There's a hotel directly behind the shrimp basket that has a potty walk and the restaurant has a nice covered, outside dining area. Restrooms were clean and the food was good. I had a shrimp Po boy and it was delicious. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. We ate outside but the inside looked nice too and air conditioned. It is on a busy road but the outside dining had deck railings/fencing so kid safe. Seems like a popular place to eat as people were streaming in and out. My wife and I enjoy coming here on a regular basis. The seafood is always fresh. We started off with the Boom-Boom Shrimp. Many restaurants have a version of this dish, but I will say these are as good as you can get. Fresh shrimp makes all the difference. Tonight my wife had the White Fish Basket. She is not a fan of any seafood, but she loves their fish. It's mild, fresh and flavorful. She also loves the corn fritters that come with them. I had the Seafood Basket. The Stuffed Crab Claws were fantastic. It also has White Fish, shrimp, fried oysters and the tradition additions of hush puppies, fries, and corn fritters. I wasn't a huge fan of the oysters, but I'm not big on any oysters. I do wish they still offered clams, but they may not have been big sellers. Poor service in Tuscaloosa. I usually love Shrimp basket. We ordered our food...then never saw our server until we were all ready to go (25 minutes after we got our food). The manager brought us our food, and I was waiting on our server to let her know what I needed to go with my shrimp (I wanted cocktail sauce). Ended up leaving almost the entire plate due to never seeing anyone to get the condiments to eat it. I asked another server if he could get my server, and he stated "I'm sure she's just busy with other customers!" Waited 10 minutes to be seated by a hostess just for it to take another 15 minutes for our order to be taken. Ordered the all you can eat Shrimp but the manager/waitress waited until after our second order to say we could not share it amongst the table. Sadly, it looks like COVID hysteria and stupid policies from the Biden administration have ruined this restaurant as well. It was about 45 minutes until our next encounter with the waitress. I was beginning to think that the silly mayor had passed a "no refill mandate" When we got our food, it was all warm, not hot as you would expect after waiting 45 minutes. The first refill of shrimp was half warm mixed with hot. The last refill was actually hot. Too bad I was already out of the mood to eat. Our waitress handled her tables slightly better than Joe Biden does a press conference. I am being generous to say slightly because I can do brain surgery slightly better and I have never done one. Refills on tea, cocktail sauce, and etc. were hard to come by. My tip to future visitors would be to drink your drink strategically. Very disappointed. Husband had dozen Raw oysters / very small and the "foot" wasn't cut loose. We ordered a blackened shrimp platter to share. Well guys a friend of mine said I was picky so I took photos and thought I'd let you all decide now I've eaten here five or six times the first couple I'd describe the food as nursing home food ( soft, mushy, lacked salt ) then I spoke to management and started requesting extra cook time or crispy popcorn shrimp, that helped two times. I ordered just like I always do are should I say the way the manager told me too and the first time the waitress brought my order grease was leaking out the sides and I explained that part of her job was took at least look at the meal for presentation sake ( if nothing else ) but this young lady thought it was funny and walked away the manager then had the nerve to tell me she couldn't see the grease and that they were just trying to serve me as fast as possible. Gave the Shrimp Basket another chance last week, the problem I found is that everything is fried in the same cornmeal batter, if you are going to eat there get the shrimp basket, fish basket, etc. Tater sauce was better this time around and the food is good, but if you order a combo basket everything seems to taste the same because of the cornmeal coating. Still a very friendly place, food is good and you'll get plenty of it, just don't be ready to write a letter home to Mom about your experience. Well, I did it. I walked into this establishment. Something I said I'd never do. Careful with those absolutes. But I can promise you this, never again at any of their locations, never. I was coerced by friends that wanted shrimp and oysters. The atmosphere, plain and dull. The service, pretty good. Shelby did a very good job. The food, ok for once frozen Vietnamese seafood...more about that later. The manager, Tamara, I'm not sure how she could be more rude and unpleasant if she tried. She walked around with a scowl on her face as if we were uninvited guests in her dining room. So we ordered crab claws for an appetizer, not to bad. I had the fried shrimp and oyster basket with fires and coleslaw. Now when you order a shrimp and oyster basket you expect to get an equal amount of shrimp and oysters. Normally, six of each, but not at The Shrimp Basket. You get six shrimp and three oysters. I pointed it out to my server who asked the evermore pleasant Tamara. Tamara frowned and spewed "that's what they get". She didn't bother to take the eight steps it would have taken her to come over and politely told me how they screw their customers and that they don't care. Because if you walked through our doors, it's obvious you don't care what you eat, so we don't care either. People of Alabama, you deserve better and you have better.
