On this day I was in Tuscaloosa and I decided to try Tony's Italian Grill with 3 of my companions…read more This location could use some work. It's interesting to me how some Italian places can get away with being a dive. Generally the food has to be excellent with lots of Italian's screaming at each other. This is not that place. This joint appears to have been a fast-food place prior. Two of us Frutti De Mare 1 & 2 Shrimp with chopped and Shelled Claims, mussels sautéed in a white wine sauce over homemade pasta. # 1 is over Linguini # 2 is over Fettuccini. This was good. I didn't think it was a $27.00 meal. The bread the give looks like a garlic know, and is excellent. I thought the food was good over. Two of My group had spaghetti. One with Vodka and the other with Mariana sauce. This too was good. I doubt I would go back, although it's not convenient location for me.

A Cozy New Spot for Italian in Tuscaloosa…read more Tony's Italian Grill is a new, family-owned restaurant in Tuscaloosa with comforting dishes and bold flavors. The space used to be a fast-food spot, but they're doing a great job remodeling it into a welcoming dining space. I've visited a couple of times now. The calamari is crisp and flavorful, especially with the fresh lemon and chunky marinara. The shrimp and lobster ravioli is rich and satisfying, with plenty of seafood. Most recently, I tried the Shrimp Cremara, a spaghetti-style dish with a spicy marinara twist--really bold and delicious. The service has definitely improved--they've brought on some new employees who were very attentive and welcoming. They offered dessert (which I passed on this time), but I've had the tiramisu before and it was light, creamy, and worth it. The ambiance is still coming together, but the background music is a nice touch. Portion sizes are generous and pricing is fair. A solid pick for casual Italian in town--I'm excited to see how they keep growing!

Both nights we had the same waiter Ethan, and he was hands down one of the best we've ever had. Extremely professional, attentive without hovering, and he made everything feel effortless. Service like that elevates the entire experience. On our last night, we each ordered a steak, and it was honestly one of the best meals we've had in weeks. Perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and exactly what you hope for when you order a great steak. Everything about this place works -- the décor, the crowd, the energy in the room. The lighting was perfectly dimmed, creating that ideal balance of lively but intimate. It's easily one of the best places we've eaten since being in Tuscaloosa, and clearly good enough that we had to go back twice. Highly recommend.

Filled with what I'd describe as a trendy crowd; casual but on the high end. The service was good; our waitress was charming and attentive but for whatever strange reason, they kept taking our utensils and when a different staffer would bring the next course, they'd neglect to bring utensils... this happened twice! Pure torture looking at bread pudding without the means to eat it! Which brings me to the food... it was just decent for the price, I would have expected more. I had the ribeye which was perfectly cooked but still just meh; kinda thin and not very flavorful. The wife had the sushi and it was good, but again, for the prices in this place, I would have expected a little better food. Definitely recommend the bread pudding though... bring your own spoons if you're the impatient type!

Still, we were told there would be a 15-20 minute wait. We waited about 35 minutes before seating. Make it make sense. That said, the restaurant sits right along the Black Warrior River, which offers a really pleasant view, especially from the patio. On a cool spring day like today, it's hard to beat outdoor seating here. Tuscaloosa is buzzing with football fans for the annual A-Day spring game, which adds to the energy around town. My better half ordered the shrimp and grits, and I went with the steak fajita bowl, minus the sunny-side-up egg. Even at my age, I can't do the runny yolk situation, I always ask for my eggs over hard. With that change, I'll say the fajita bowl jumped up to one of my top breakfast/brunch go-to dishes in town. Yes, I know it's technically brunch, but it was before 11 a.m., so I'm calling it breakfast. The shrimp and grits were solid, though the tails were still on the shrimp, which meant a bit of extra peeling at the table, my wife wasn't a fan of that part, but she still finished the dish and enjoyed it overall. Only minor gripe on the food side: ice seems to be a rare commodity here, I'd love a few more cubes in the water. But overall, the food was very good, the patio seating is absolutely the way to go, and the river view is fantastic.

With a 20 mile hike ahead of me tomorrow, I figured loading up on carbs was not just justified, it was necessary. We have been here several times, and it truly never disappoints. Tonight was no exception. I did what I tend to do and over ordered. I went with a kids portion of spaghetti and meatballs along with my usual grilled salmon, and both were excellent. The portions were generous enough that I ended up taking about two thirds of the salmon home, which will make for a perfect Sunday lunch. My wife ordered the lasagna. While it was a bit on the soupy side, the flavor more than made up for it. It was still very enjoyable overall. The complimentary bread remains a highlight as always and is perfect for soaking up every last bit on the plate. Service was fast, friendly, and efficient, and the total bill came in under 50 dollars. In today's world, with gas pushing 4 dollars a gallon, that is hard to beat. We are leaving once again completely satisfied. Great food, a relaxed and quiet atmosphere, and none of the chaos from downtown. It makes you wonder if the crowds have figured out how good this place is yet or if they are all still on the other side of the river.

My wife ordered the shrimp pesto pasta and it was bright, garlicky, with perfectly cooked shrimp, the kind of dish you keep sneaking bites of even when you said you wouldn't. I went with the gluten-free Milano pasta option, and it was yummy. It was flavorful, hearty, and didn't feel like I was settling for less. If you're in Northport and craving Italian that feels comforting but still done right, Milano's is worth your time and your appetite.
