This doctor is the rudest, condescending, Ms know it all. She has been like that ever since but what can I do since my insurance not a lot of doctors accept it. I strongly suggest to not go to this doctor. She's a happy trigger medicine prescription doctor. I was explaining something about a letter that says that my son is my main caregiver. She said no I can't do that and gave me all kinds of sermon and left the room while I still had some questions. I felt like a 2 year old who got dismissed while she ran to her office. Horrible office clerk! My grandma needed a referral after visiting Dr. Lee, they said they will send out the referral on the same day. Two weeks past, the specialist has never received a referral from them. So I called Dr. Lee's office to check with them, the truth is they forgot to send out the referral. My grandma's leg is in pain and getting worse, we were hoping to see the specialist as soon as possible. Now we won't be able to see the specialist in at least 3 months. This is awful. read more

I have never posted anything on yelp I created an account just to write a comment on this doctor I have never met such a Bad doctor she did not want us to ask any questions and when we try to ask questions about my mother's results she refused to answer any questions she kept telling me what do you think the answer should be I told her you're the doctor you should be telling me what all this means she told me do research about it her front desk doesn't even know what folder is who's folder they are so disorganized they called my mom by mistake for thinking she had to come in when they meant for someone else to come this doctor doesn't even deserve the one star that I even her.I used to think that it was good that they always had room for my mom to come in but now I understand why read more

If there is a choice for zero start, I would choose zero star. Shu-May Lee is the worst doctor I have ever seen. She does not care about the patients' health, but she cares about the money only. She refused to answer my brother's questions. Instead of answering the questions, she asked the questions back to my brother. She is very unkind, awful and unprofessional. Worst doctor ever, always yells at patients and doesn't care about patients health, never recommended patient to see any kind of specialist doctors (by patient's request/ perspective ; and/or by the Dr's perspective from looking at the lab results and diagnosis) for being 10+year of her patient until the patient has got end stage renal disease and needed to do dialysis. Shu May Lee was unable to explain why there's no earlier heads up when patient is at 1st- 3rd stage renal disease. We asked front desk for the medical record and the staff notice our situation so they made us waited for 3 hours because they need to get Shu May lee's approval for this case and apparently, we didn't get any paperwork out from her office because Shu May Lee was yelling and mad at us, said it's ILLEGAL to give the medical record to the patient, and that we don't know anything so it's pointless to have all the records anyways. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Lee since my insurance was changed to Health Net in 2005. I was very concerned about having to change Primary Care Physicians after having the same one for 15 years. Also I was taking some very strong pain medication for chronic lower back pain and I wanted to see if she had any problems prescribing same. Since it was still open enrollment for PCP I felt it would be better to get these things cleared up before signing with a doctor. I stopped by to meet Dr. Lee and her staff a month before my insurance took effect with her and her staff had a very difficult time with that since technically I was not insured to see her yet. Anyway, I briefly spoke with Dr. Lee and discussed the medications I was taking. Even though she appeared to be rushed and concerned about how this office visit was going to be paid, she assured me there would not be a problem. Okay, great, I thought this went much better than I expected.... Wrong! Come January, when Dr. Lee was my PCP, I dutifully made an appointment for an examination and all the rest that goes on with a first time doctor's visit, she had absolutely no recall of me nor my visit a month earlier and now, the medications became a problem for her since she did not know me or my problems. Ultimately, she did provide me with the prescriptions I routinely required. At this time I need to point out that the pain meds required a special prescription blank and had to be prescribed 30 days at a time, unlike my other meds that could be prescribed for a 90 day period. The first month passed and I again scheduled another appointment to see Dr. Lee. This time she was extremely short, did not seem to remember anything about me and again expresses great concern about prescribing my pain meds. This continued for two more visits whereupon she said, "I cannot continue to provide you with pain medication without knowing more about you." Now, we really locked horns! At that time I was 66 years old and in poor health with asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and chronic back pain and she is going to cut off my meds. It was not like I was shopping for a doctor to just provide pain meds and I had already shown, for the time I had been with her, the pain meds were not abused. Dr. Lee did provide me with one last prescription and a referral to a pain management specialist, one more doctor to see and one more copayment, but what choice did I have. I was at the point in time where I wanted to change PCPs but that would mean having to start all over again with another doctor so I decided to do as she recommended and see the other doctor. Actually, it was the best thing that ever happened. This group of doctors work with people in pain day in and day out. Now, back to Dr. Lee; the next time it came time to schedule an appointment, I decided to ask Dr. Lee to spend more that 3-5 minutes with me and allow me to introduce myself and maybe we could get off to a better relationship. Needless to say that is how things went and we both now have a very good patient doctor relationship. In the last 5 years, I have come to learn that Dr. Lee is actually a very caring individual who can take the time to know her patients. She can spend a few extra minutes with me and again, she truly does care about my health. I first thought that the entire office staff was cold, rude and just wanted my copayment. I also felt out-of-place, being the only white person in the waiting room. All the rest were Chinese, as was the staff. My relationship with the front office staff is also much better and they do remember me, even on the phone. I would highly recommend Dr. Shu May Lee as a physician, as I am very pleased with the treatment I receive. read more

Awful doctor and unprofessional staff. DO NOT go here if you want to be treated with respect. (Note: she's not my doctor, but my 80-yr-old grandmother's) I've been making the appointments, going to this doctor with my grandmother for the last ~8mo. The staff is rude, impatient, and unprofessional on the phone - they have trouble understanding what you want and then gets upset easily when you try to clarify yourself. When I called a few minutes ago, they put me on a guilt-trip about not being able to take my grandmother in for an appointment the same day (they did not understand that I have a job also, and need to make arrangements). The doctor treats patients like objects and cares very little about them. She might be one of those doctors who tries to see as many ppl as possible, and compromises on the quality of treatment. It is obvious that she does not review the patient charts before you go in for a visit - she had no idea what medications she prescribed to my grandmother last time we went in. She lectured us about that we SHOULD have brought in all the medicine bottles (we would if they have told us... and she should be able to look on her chart for the medication). I called back later since I had a question about a medication, she got upset about my question (I'm not sure why) and said, "I have a lot of patients, I can't keep track of what medicine I prescribe to them...." ::RED FLAG:: I had to drive all the way to her office, with the bottle of medicine in hand before she was willing to answer my question. The staff gave me a hard time when I asked for a copy of my grandmother's blood analysis (which they already had out). They said it would take 2 days... i might not be a healthcare professional, but I'm pretty sure it only takes 30sec to copy something on the copy machine. I'm definitely finding a new primary care doctor for my grandmother - one that actually cares, and won't make her feel bad. read more

Dr. Lee has been my wifes and my Doctor. for 2 years now. The office has always been rude and hard to deal with not only on the phone but in person too. I'm a 55 year old diabetic and Dr Lee said she needed to see me 4 times a year. ok? i thought she cared. I got layed off in October and still had a $750.00 co pay so I couldn't to see her that often, when my test strips perscription ran out I called for a refill, you can get test strips over the counter the perscription gives you a insurance discount, anyway she refused to give the perscription without and office visit, which is $160.00 ? . Yesterday I woke up with a huge infection on my right hand. I called and got and appointment, they didn't take my new insurance and didn't want to take the time to see if the old insurance was still active. so I offered my bank card, she said cash only. to make this short Dr Lee wouldn't see me, she didn't want to look at my hand, I asked what should I do she said "sorry" she just didn't care no cash no service. Dr Lee doesn't like people and her staff down right hates dealing with people. In the ER I found out that my insurance was still active till the end of the month. So don't ask the staff for anything, only bring cash, and Dr.Lee might act like she cares if you live or die. Keep on looking for a real Dr. Dr Lee just wants your cash. no cards. if you get a glitch with your insurance the staff will not help or work with you to help, and if you don't have cash they will tell you to leave. read more

The 2 stars I forced myself to spare was coz in all fairness, they were able to fit me in the same day and are at most times quite efficient with paper work that I need. Other then that, Dr Lee shows no compassion, concern or warmth towards her patients. I'v never met any doctor as unresourceful as she is. I had to ask and suggest alternative treatments or medications that could possibly benefit my situation. While I do believe the patient him or herself ought to research and be in control of they're concerns. I expect my doctor to be interested in my well being and providing me options and an array of suggestions considering the wealth of wisdom/information they ought to have obtained from training. She does only the basic minimum and has no interests in exploring if there are other treatments that could help me. She has no clue what type of test she's given me in the past nor what type of symptoms I've had, its obvious she didn't take time to review my files before I came in and is just flipping through her patients like dollar bills. She lacks passion in her profession and also the genuine desire to really help and care for people, which ideally is why doctos chose to be doctors. In her case, I'm only able to imagine her only reasoning to become a doctor is coz it'll bring her a lot of money. Speaking of money, they're too cheap to even order proper magazine for they're patients to read while waiting for they're appointments, only reading materials are free leaflets and brochures drug company or non profit organizations drop off. If you want a doctor who is warm, compassionate and genuinely cares for your well being, then look else where. read more

While I have experienced better service from a doctor, I can say a couple of things about Dr. Shu May Lee herself versus just her staff. Everything I have always requested from her has been taken care of (and quickly). Fro my perspective, it does take a patient in control of their own well-being to create a positive experience. I would agree that the service and treatment in the other review are not worthy of praise, but I personally as a patient have never been treated that way. As far as appointments go, I have never had a hard time getting an appt in a hurry, which for me is good. But I also have to wait an average of 20 minutes after my appt time to actually see the doctor, even though I arrived 15 minutes early as requested. I have had better service from staff before, but I do like being able to get appts within 24 hrs and emergency appts the same day. I also like that when I do come prepared for my appt, she is always open to listening to why I am there before moving forward with an exam. Also, I am allergic to several types of medications and she spends several hours researching medications that I will not have an allergic reaction to before prescribing it. I often find that most doctors don't do the checking themselves, they wait for the pharmacy to catch it instead. read more

for the past few years, i have gotten to know dr. lee and her staff. she has treated my entire family, and has taken much time to really get to know us. in the beginning, like all relationships with doctors, it was always like a "okay, let's get to know you, but let me keep my distance kind of thing". she never asked anything back from me, and even when i told her about my financial issues, she always understood, and said i would be able to pay half-price. her staff were very caring. people always want to be treated with respect, and personally, why.. we aren't royalty. people need to know about the real-life sort of being. its unreasonable that people will earn respect from others if you don't deserve it, so.. guys out there that think you always "need respect to survive," grow up. dr. lee has patients in the hospital, and i, being a patient with her for awhile, was always comforted seeing her. even a cancer patient once told me that her presense always calmed him, and he was albe to stick a tube down his throat. other nurses couldn't do that. i would highly recommend her, since she seems to care a lot for her patients. she's not greedy, or in other words, not out there just for the cash-- haha, i laugh when i read stories like those.. read more
