Celebrity Autobiography is currently showcased at the Shubert Theater. I shared my opinion regarding the theater itself in a previous review. And yes, once again an obvious head obstructed my view, but this review will be focused on the show. Getting back to the production. The clever premise of the show spans several years back in L.A. whereupon comedians join forces to literally stand up and read from celebrities memoirs/autobiographies---and it works. A 90 minute solo, mash up and dialogue being read by the comedians offers hilarious entertainment. The celebrity memoirs included those past and present. Granted some of the audience roared with laughter while I remained amused. I was never a stand up comic show kind of gal though I've seen plenty. In my opinion, what was really funny was the manner in which the memoirs were written. Some were so painfully bad. No disrespect to those who passed on, but it included Suzanne Somers, Bob Newart and Carol Channing. The contemporary autobiographies were equally bad, including Matthew McConaughey, Tiger Woods, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sylvester Stallone and so on. The roster of comedians will always be changing until it concludes its run in August. I saw Mario Cantone, Ralph Macchio, Brooke Adams to name a few. I didn't recognize some of the other comedians. If comedy with a twist is your thing, it's worth checking out. As the comedians emphasized, they can't make this stuff up as it was spoken in the words of the celebrity authors. read more

It was amazing to watch the final show of this month - Hell's Kitchen Broadway show. They will be going on an international tour after this month. This musical and story were great. The cast did very well, and the songs were touching. It made me tear up toward the end. I definitely recommend it for those who have not watched it yet before it is over. read more

Showtime: 7 pm Drinks: 2 waters and a cute cup of wine can cost $45. HELLS KITCHEN This show is located in TIMES SQUARE! I originally had a different address for Shubert Theatre and was very confused. Marketing must SPECIFY TIMES SQUARE for non-Nyers. Now , the theatre seats are tight so get an end seat if you are tall or wide. SECONDLY: THERE ARE A lot OF FLASHING LIGHTS I had a slight headache after the show so be aware of that if you you are sensitive to light or epileptic. This show is high energy and emotional . The dancing and singing is E P I C ! I saw some bad reviews on the "book" of Hells Kitchen but I think they were irrelevant Alicia Keys has hits ! They played the hits and you will enjoy it so much. There are 2 acts with a 10-15 minute intermission. There are plenty steps to get to the bathroom and coat room . Customer service is STELLAR. I was able to go backstage and take pics with the actors . The crew is amazingly humble and professional. I hope you have a great time read more

Finally came to see Hell's Kitchen and was pleasantly surprised. The musical is presented in the beautiful Shubert Theatre. This theatre has to be seen to be believed and it adds to the enjoyment of this musical. I want to specifically credit the performance of Kecia Lewis. It left me in awe, with goose bumps, and was award winning. I hope that everyone will get to experience this enjoyable musical. One of my best friends is performing in Hell's Kitchen on Broadway right now and we went to the show last night. I have to shout out Delia, who made our experience so special! Long story short, we agreed to switching with a family who could not get tickets all next to each other. Because of that, Delia went out of her way, asked the house manager if they could upgrade our seats, and moved us to the most amazing seats, 6th row center! Really loved the Shubert Theater! It's historic and beautiful. I love the old wooden French doors especially because you can see the age on them. The chandeliers are not my style, but cool in this place. The ceiling is artfully decorated in case you're bored at intermission. One of the best features is the seating! Not only are the seats set stadium style (but on a slope not steps), but they are staggered too. So short people like me look between the two heads in front of them, not straight at one of them. Best of all, the seats are much roomier than some of the theaters. I'm little and even I feel cramped at some broadway shows. Well, not at the Shubert Theater! The only bathrooms I could find could only be accessed by stairs, so I asked if they have accessible restrooms. They do not in the theater but the have an agreement with a neighboring business to which they will escort you for access. So not perfect, but a solution. Also, Hell's Kitchen was amazing! Celebrating wifey's birthday, she has been wanting to see this play for a while, so what's a good time...her birthday, the coldest day of the year lived up to the hype. Thankfully the garage is just a few steps from the Shubert, however Shubert alley was brutal. However enough about the weather. I'm normally not a balcony kind of guy but that was all that was left for this specific day. We had to go up 4 separate staircases to get to our seats and the seats were so tight it was ridiculous. Located close to Timesquare, it's an easy walk to or from. We got great seats at the end, even though it stated partial view. We were ushered in to our seats. I took in all the beautiful architecture of the theater while we waited for the show. There's 3 levels which makes sense as there are less rows than the bigger theaters. The sound system is great. It sounded very clean. The signing was amazing! Ali was an amazing singer. I kept thinking she should have her own record deal already! The dancing was electrifying and captivating. Hell's Kitchen was such an amazing show. The choreography and the singing were out of this world. I can honestly say I loved everything about it, and would highly recommend it to others. The Shubert Theatre is smaller than some of the other theaters I've been to on Broadway, however, the room size really works for the acoustics, staging, and intimate atmosphere being created. I usually prefer sitting in the balcony center, but there really isn't a bad seat in the house. The only thing I had an issue with was the attendees' late arrival obstructing the view of the stage, and those who had seen the play before tended to sing and recite some of the lines throughout the play. It was a bit annoying, yet, I still enjoyed every moment. If you haven't seen it yet, you have to go! Very clean theatre. Excellent staff. No need to stress about parking, as there is a parking garage right next to the theatre (use SpotHero to reserve parking; they're reasonably priced), less than a minute walk. I've been to several theaters across NYC and have seen many Broadway shows--this particular show was fantastic. No complaints about the performance itself. However, the venue? Meh! First, there are no elevators. If you're seated in the mezzanine or balcony, be ready to walk up flights of stairs. The mezzanine is only two flights up and has some room to move around, which is a plus. But if you're in the last row of the mezzanine like I was, prepare to miss half the stage--the balcony overhang completely blocks the view. Terrible' The seats are tight. If you're taller than 5'9", it's going to be uncomfortable. The bathroom and concession lines are long, so plan accordingly. The staff was friendly and the theater itself was clean. The location is super convenient--right in the middle of everything, and next door to the famous Junior's Cheesecake (a bonus if you want a treat after the show). Bottom line: loved the show, but the theater itself isn't a favorite. read more

I'm very fortunate and super blessed to be able to watch Broadway Musicals & Plays in New York City. Initially, I had heard of Hell's Kitchen through word of mouth. But then when I watched the performance on this past Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, it really caught my interest. More so when it won a Tony Award a few months ago. This past Tuesday, I finally had made plans on watching it and I was wondering if maybe Rush tickets were available. Once in a while I do put in and bid for lottery tickets. To no avail, you could only purchase online tickets or walk in to the Box Office. The cheapest tickets were in Mezzanine, instead I really wanted a good view. To my surprise, Center Orchestra was available at very good price! Shubert Theatre is right in the middle of Times Square Theatre District just next door to Junior's Restaurant. There is free WiFi. Concession stand is either on the main floor or downstairs. Extremely clean and sanitary restroom facilities. Most importantly, lots and lots of security inside and outside before entering the theater. read more

In town for work and wanted to see Hell's Kitchen. Against my better judgment, my hubby suggested we be "real travelers" this time, be spontaneous and not replanned. I said ok but inside I was screaming...what if they sell out (queue the internal tears)?! We arrived at the theater a few hours before curtain to allow for dinner before the show. Michael was the lovely man who helped us. He was able to find us two "best in house" seats for less than what I projected the show would cost...major score! Saw Hell's Kitchen here last night. The show was amazing! This theatre is old and that is reflected in the accessibility, bathrooms and seats. The bathrooms are located up and down many flights of stairs. The mezzanine has a few bathroom stalls for women, one of which started overflowing next to me while I was in there- gave me quite the start! Men's restroom's are all the way downstairs. The seats are super cramped. I'm just under 5'8" and my knees were smashed up against the seat in front of me. This is probably the most cramped I've been in a theater. If you are in the upper mezzanine seats, your view is partially obstructed by the balcony over you. Staff is super friendly. We particularly enjoyed chatting with our usher Marty who was a wealth knowledge regarding the show and theater scene here in New York. read more

We came to the Shubert Theater to watch 'Hell's Kitchen' while we were in the area - The show itself was actually pretty good, and definitely exceeded my expectations - I was a little hesitant, but the performance and the singing was amazing. We had really good seats, so we were able to view the whole stage clearly; the acoustics were great as well, so don't fret about missing any of the dialogue. The only negative was that it was slightly uncomfortable due to the narrow aisles and small seats, and there really isn't much room to move around; you'll definitely be in each other's personal spaces, as it is very tight. Had a delightful time at the Shubert Theater tonight seeing the Alicia Keys' play Hell's Kitchen. Would definitely go again to see this. Was able to upgrade my seats when I got to the theater and was able to get closer seats in the orchestra section. The snacks were a little pricey ($7 for a box of M&Ms) and the actual seats were tight, but other than that. Great time. On 4/15 I attended Joe Turner's Come and Gone. It was for my mother 75 Th birthday. We were in row BB seated in 114 and 113 which were the second row from the stage. Well after intermission and the curtain was closed a drunk patron in our row came back and climbed over me and my mother to get to his seat. This was in middle of a performance we then had to get up and let his partner get to his seat causing an even more disruption to other theatre goers around. In that situation how can one handle that without taking away from the actors performance? Well I reached out to the Sheubert organization and Cheryl Jones rudely replied and basically said it is nothing that they can do. The website stated that late admittance won't be allowed. A movie theatree would even tried to rectify this situation but not them and especially how much Broadway tickets are . read more

My wife has always wanted to go to a Broadway show. As a Christmas gift, my sister bought us two tickets to see Hell's Kitchen. And I couldn't imagine a better show to go to!!! It was absolutely amazing! First, sometimes you forget how many great songs that Alicia Keys has made over the years. But this show brings you back to enjoy all of her classics. We'll definitely be listening to her music again moving forward. Secondly, we loved the acting, the dancing and the singing. Everyone had powerful voices and great dance moves. They had so much energy and passion that they put into every movement. Third, we enjoyed the story line and it had us drawn in the entire time. There were so many deep meanings and themes throughout the show. We've been talking about the show with each other, family and friends for days since going. The merchandise was a nice touch as well. Musical: 5 Theater: 3 My Bestie arranged for us to see Hell's Kitchen on a Friday evening in August. We were both excited, we lucked up on parking and headed to the venue. The Shubert theatre is a NYC landmarked theater built/opened in 1913. This theatre has three levels and horribly tight seats with absolutely NO leg room. I always find the tight seating perplexing, yes people are generally larger in size now than in the 1900's. However, at that time the arts were exclusively for the elite and wealthy. Historically speaking the women wore dresses with an abundance of layers and excess fabric. Not to mention huge petticoats under their skirts. How did they sit??? Nonetheless, I digress. Now for the show... HELL'S KITCHEN was such a wonderful experience. The music, of course written and produce by Alicia Keys, had her touch and hits incorporated. Was so good! At times you will feel like you wanna both sing and dance, just keep in mind you are at a musical not a concert. Even the storyline was good, I appreciated that it was not technically "autobiographical", you can depict the parts that may be closely related to her upbringing but that was not the focus. In addition the set design, was different, I enjoyed how the musicians where apart of the set at times and not just off stage/ below in the "pit". We highly enjoyed, and are already planning to return. Just A Note: The restrooms on the lower level are larger, so the line moves faster. read more

I saw the Hell's Kitchen here. Entry quick. Thru check bags and have a metal detector. Theater very small. Our seats were great but tight. Your knees touch the seat in front of you. I suggest sitting right in the middle of the row ans go to the bathroom prior so that you don't very disturbed by someone getting up. The sound was good. They have a structured way to go to the bathroom. Go before the show!! The line was lonnng!!! They have a small area where you can get refreshments. Hell's Kitchen Broadway Play - Birthday Surprise For my birthday, my friend surprised me with tickets to see Hell's Kitchen on Broadway because she knew how much I wanted to see it, and it was phenomenal! The actors and actresses delivered outstanding performances, and hearing Alicia Keys' iconic songs throughout the show was pure nostalgia. Her music took me right back to my teenage years, and you could feel her touch in every part of the production--she truly did her thing with this one! Service-wise, everything was smooth. The process of getting people in was efficient, and the ushers were super helpful. They even had concession staff walking around, which was convenient for anyone who wanted a snack or drink without leaving their seat. My only complaint is that the theater was freezing! It was around 49 degrees outside, and they had the AC on full blast--probably to keep the performers comfortable under the stage lights. I ended up leaving my coat on the whole time. Aside from that, the auditorium itself was cozy and well-designed. I highly recommend seeing Hell's Kitchen before the main cast rotates out. The Shubert Theater is old but nostalgic. We sat in the upper mezz for Hells Kitchen and the view and acoustics were great. The seats are very narrow and with minimal leg room, there was no way I would've been able to cross my legs. There was a concession and merchandise stand as we entered and one in the mezzanine level as well, I didn't go to the balcony level, so I don't know if there was one there as well. I didn't purchase anything but I could see the line moved quickly. The ushers were pleasant and helpful. Happy New Year Everyone! Ringing in this 2024 New Year w/ a Yelp Review of The Shubert Theater is appropriate because this is where we recently saw Some Like It Hot, which was a fabulous musical. We knew we wanted to see it and made sure to go the day before the show ended on Saturday, 12/30. Shubert Theater is located on 44th Street in Midtown Manhattan in the Theater District. Shubert Theater is on the same block as the Broadhurst Theatre, which is currently playing "A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical" and is near other theatres. Shubert Theater is close to Times Square, and this area is buzzing w/ enegry - w/ restaurants, hang-out spots, shops, etc. I was able to get us "Standing Room" tickets, which happened to become available closer to the start of the showtime. We went to the 8pm show, so I was able to inquire about these tickets at the Shubert Theater's Box Office around 7:30pm. The man who helped me at the box office was so kind and found us two of these tickets ($40 each) and placed us in the Orchestra section! Shubert Theater has over 1400 seats and has three floors - orchestra, mezzanine & and balcony. "Some Like It Hot" was 2.5 hours long w/ an intermission. The musical was amazing! It takes place in Chicago during Prohibition. Everything was excellent from A to Z - the cast, the costumes, the singing, the choreography / the dance sequences, the tap dancing, the transitions, the props, the makeup, the sets, etc. Some Like It Hot has won 4 Tony Awards, including for Best Actor J. Harrison Ghee, who played Jerry / Daphne & for Best Choreography. Actress Natasha Yvette Williams as Sweet Sue & Actor Kevin Del Aguila as Osgood (him singing "Poor Little Millionaire" and the /Tip, Tap, Trouble Sequence were my absolute favorites) were definitely my favorites. The facilities are clean, and there was no long wait as the bathroom area has multiple stalls. My wife & I saw the final performance of Some LIke It Hot at the Shubert Theatre over the weekend. All I can say is wow! First off, the Ushers? Man, they don't play! I was about to snap a quick picture when the show first started and out of nowhere a woman yells: No Pictures! There's no reason to get irrational, I'm not one of those old people with the flash set on high. I have a very sophisticated iPhone thankyouverymuch *See my last picture? Ha! What a show! Two musicians see a bunch of Chicago gangsters feed a guy some lead because he was a rat. They find an all female band so they decide to dress up as ladies and throw the gangsters off the trail. Our seats were in the mezzanine, very comfortable with a nice view of the stage. Usually these older theatres have seats very close, I found the seats to be padded well and very comfortable. The bar was located on the mezzanine, I did not partake in any alcohol because we have dinner plans.
