This is one pretty theater. The building itself and the actual theater. It was my first time here a few weeks ago to see CATS the show. It is a but confusing on how to get into the actual theater and the staff who I asked told me directions but they weren't too clear. When I finally got into the theater itself and found my seat, it was not the most comfortable seat that is for sure. Felt like I was sitting on hard cardboard for a 2 and a half hour -3 hour show. Plus also, my seat, I felt like I was blocking the little two steps to get down to the next level. My seat was kind of like just on its own. I had no seat in front of me. It's hard to explain. This place has a very small concession stand when you walk into the building itself and a small merch booth also in the lobby when you walk in so there are a few different lines and it can get hectic in the lobby. Not many food choices I only saw a few bags of nuts and the two styles of popcorn. Which by the way the popcorn flavor I got was the butter one and it tasted like only one piece if popcorn actually had butter on it and it tasted a bit stale. I was not really impressed by the food choices. The theater has an upstairs level too that seemed like it was nice. The bathrooms are a bit confusing I did not know which stall was open until a lady pointed out that on top if it was a green light it was open and a red light meant it was being used. I feel that the staff should let people know this or there should be a sign. I do not think I would notice if that lady did not say anything. Would I come back to see a show here you may ask... the answer is only if it's a show I REALLY want to see.

PAC NYC. Gorgeous architecture - 2/24/2024

The new Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC - NYC) set in the plaza of the World Trade Center and Oculus is a welcome addition to the downtown Manhattan performing arts scene. The cube shaped space consists of three theaters which are capable of transforming to several different configurations. PAC is a space designed for emerging and established Artists in Dance, Music, Theater, Opera, Media and Film - offered at reasonable prices. PAC's intention is to serve as a cultural beacon and venue where the arts can both "inspire and unite us". This afternoon we attended the musical theater performance of the 1491s ensemble of BETWEEN TWO KNEES - a narrated and acted tale of the history of the indigenous people of the Americas told from their perspective, although very tragic it was presented with a somewhat comedic bent. In the future, we look forward to seeing what new talent and upcoming performances lie ahead. Especially when the annual Tribeca Film Festival is in town this Spring, the location is perfect. **The space is also home to Metropolis restaurant, by famous chef Marcus Samuelsson** Thank you for reading.

I really enjoyed this space! It's new and well designed, with lots of seating on the first floor. The theatre itself was very well designed. There didn't seem to be a bad seat in the house.

The PAC is the last piece of the Ground Zero project. It rises up, an enormous, impressive, glowing gold and brown marble cube, with the freedom tower glimmering in the background. I saw the inaugural show here--Watch Night. It was edgy, inventive, thought-provoking. It was a mixture of hiphop, interpretive dance, orchestra, beatboxing, breakdance, ballet, spoken word, and an all-out opera. There are multiple theater spaces, and what makes PAC special is that all of the spaces can be reconfigured in multiple ways--I think over 60 different configurations are possible. The space I was in was very intimate. There were some balcony seats, but none of the seats were overly far away. I sat in the second row because I didn't know how the space would feel (sometimes the front row is looking directly at the front of the stage and you have to crane your neck). But the stage for this production was low to the ground and the front row would have been perfect. That being said, this particular configuration was great in the way the seats were offset and each row was slightly elevated above the row in front of it, so you don't run into some some tall person's head ruining your night. I am so appreciative that this center is ready to host shows representing multiple cultures and communities. Aside from Watch Night, there are several shows I'm interested in attending. There is an indigenous comedy troupe who is associated with the hit TV show Reservation Dogs. Laurence Fishburne has an upcoming one man show. There is a celebration of street dance with Afrikan Party, a futuristic ode to dance form in Africa, as well as an all-styles dance battle, which covers the multitude of street movements emerging in New York. So many other very cool, unconventional shows that utilize multiple media forms to entertain, intrigue, and stimulate. Ticket prices generally range from the 50's to around 130 for premium seats, but it's variable. I noticed that the Laurence Fisburne show has tickets as high as 158. Some shows are as low as 48 and max out in the 80s. This is also built as a community space. There is a beautiful common lobby where people can come and watch performers and small concerts for free. There is a small concession stand with wine, water, soda, nuts, snacks. The architecture and lighting are beautiful and help slip you into a serene mood. Marcus Samuelsson's newest restaurant, Metropolis, is also here. I have written a separate, detailed review on this venue. I am so excited to see what the PAC brings over the coming years!

This is a newly structure for entertainment in the World Trade Center arena. This is a beautiful designed center. The inside is nice and cozy and it gives you an old New York in the theatre house. The acoustics is really good to hear from all sides. This was my first time here and look forward to seeing more theater production at this center.

Throwback, sexy, vintage burlesque type of vibes with a small bar and seating area. It was not busy at all and there was a guy DJ'ing. You would think that a place like this would be able to make most craft cocktails. They did have a small cocktail menu and some written specials but I asked the bartender if he could make me a "Last Word." He looked at me for a moment and seemed confused or unsure and it was a no. Kinda threw me off, and then he handed me the menu. This gave me the implication that he's really only familiar with the ones on the menu. So then we decided to start easy with the beer and tequila shot combo. I asked for them chilled and instead of shaking them he stirred it which ended up taking longer but hey to each their own I guess. We also got a shot of amaro and he didn't seem to know which ones they carried so we had to point out to him which ones we wanted since they were on the wall behind him. Once we got our drinks, he proceeded to eat empanadas right in front of us. I get it, you gotta eat but I don't ever think it's good optics for anyone in service to be eating directly in front of their guests, especially at a very small bar. If anything, you step away and take a few bites and come back. At one point I went to use the bathroom and on my way back to the bar I asked the DJ if he took any requests. He firmly said "NO" and not in like a nice way, I mean we were the only people in the bar so we thought he could possibly play something upon request but it was a hard no. Overall it was a bit of an unusual experience, and for a nice cocktail bar we were disappointed with how things went. I hope that the bartenders learn how to make a last word at some point, it's a pretty popular classic cocktail. ‍

If you walk in expecting a traditional night out, prepare to be lovingly and fabulously corrected. From the moment I entered with a friend, it was clear this place plays by its own, very sparkly rules. The first room was more of a whimsical prelude than a line-up zone: drinks flowing, people mingling like old friends at a costume party, and a gloriously casual pile of pillows where you could recline like a disco-era Roman god. And yes--there was a tarot reader, naturally, because no true evening of hedonistic joy is complete without a stranger telling you your moon energy needs grounding. Once the main room opened, things escalated--in the best way possible. Performers appeared everywhere: on stage, above our heads, behind the crowd--acrobats, dancers, aerialists, all oozing talent, glitter, and just enough danger to keep you watching with your mouth open and your drink clutched tightly. It wasn't just a dance floor--it was a full-blown immersive experience. The music kept the energy up all night: infectious, thumping, and curated to make even the shyest feet consider their moment of main-character glory. The crowd? Pure magic. Full of respectful, expressive, and joyful people, the kind of fellow partygoers you dream about meeting in New York. Everyone was there to dance, to celebrate, to vibe--not to posture or preen. What makes House of Yes so special is that it's not just a nightclub--it's a celebration of freedom in all its forms. Of identity, of movement, of art, of joy. It's campy, chaotic, oddly intimate, and--somehow--profound. In short: if you're craving a space that feels like Studio 54 met a circus in a utopian queer commune, House of Yes is your new church. Bring an open mind, comfortable shoes, and a healthy appreciation for sequins.

I was paired with a small group of out of town visitors who brought their family to NYC and wanted them to experience the Accomplice. The parents of the family group were repeat guests like myself who like me absolutely enjoyed their experience several years prior and wanted to share it with their family. It's NYC so even when you participate in the live experience it may seem awkward that an actor is making a scene (literally) on the streets of NYC but nobody bats an eye cause weirdness can feel normal on the streets of Manhattan. Accomplice still has the typical tour around the small area of the city where you interact with amazing actors and make your way to the grand finally where you share a simple drink with your group to celebrate your accomplishment. The staff do offer a hotline to get clues if you are stuck but thankfully my group was witty enough to figure out our way through our adventure. Accomplice is also great for corporate team building activities. I've raved about this experience at my office for years and one of my teams decided to book with the show. Not only did my office team have an amazing time but buzz is going around the office about this show that another team was considering booking but business guests thought it would be too cold in November for such an event; such party poopers! This play is about a universal theme of love, sex and relationships. If you are looking for love,…read moreand who isn't, this show will speak to you. For me, everything in this comedic play seemed all too familiar..during the show, I kept on thinking, OMG I think I found bits and pieces of myself in all the women characters...which makes me ask myself, am I crazy?!!!??? I'm okay with that....because MEN ARE A**HOLES. One of the actors when introducing the play in the beginning and after the intermission was making the audience chant..he would say Women are crazy because men are........and the audience, made up of mostly females said......A**HOLES!!!!!!! It felt therapeutic to shout it out loud! I was really getting into it...I looked at my boyfriend and he was making a frowny face. ahahha. I was trying to get him to chant A**HOLES too but he wouldn't bite. He said men are a**holes because they used to be hunters...okay. ahahhahah. That's why I love him! He's my hunter, now go hunt! This play reminds me of the book, Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. The play is set at one of the character's home, Nicole is throwing a soiree to celebrate meeting her internet fling for the first time, at this soiree!! Nicole invited her whole entire family to meet this internet fling that she herself never met...WHO DOES THIS??!! Nicole's family consisted of her sister and her BF, her brother and his GF, and her best friend and her BF. There was another couple that were supposed to be at the soiree but never showed up. All these couples are all having dysfunctional relationships, which makes for a funny play. This play takes a look into human nature, human relationships and human behavior. Sometimes the play may seem over the top, overly dramatic and highly passionate to get some laughter from us, but I recognize the characters all to well!! I know people just like the characters on stage in this play. I definitely have seen some of the characteristics even in myself. I felt ashamed at times...but laughed at myself! The comic timing in this show is awesome. My favorite couple is Hillary and George who never even made it to the soiree! I was laughing through the whole show. Even coming back from the intermission was fun! Be forewarned, women are going to be portrayed as psychotic beings, men are going to be portrayed as insensitive liars and we all need each other in unhealthy ways. But at the end it's all for laughs and for fun which this play definitely accomplishes...I would highly recommend this entertaining show for any adult who has been through dating or relationship angsts. This show is definitely Rated R for RAUNCHY! See it if you want to laugh your A** off! Last day of show is June 21, HURRY!

I had grown up listening to Mos Def and expected the wit, warmth, and effortless cool of "Ms. Fat Booty." Instead, Yasiin Bey arrived in a more poetic and experimental mode, with the intellectual intensity and Rick Owens aesthetic of an artist still pushing forward. Arriving by subway and seeing that incredible Apollo sign glowing over 125th Street immediately made the night feel important. The theater felt more like a temple than a concert hall, with its deep red interior, velvet seats, and intimate layout bringing the audience remarkably close to the stage. I remember sitting in the auditorium thinking about how many legends had performed there and how much of the music I listened to every day had passed through that building. Throughout the performance, the crowd listened with such intelligence and appreciation that the evening felt almost like attending a class inside a concert. Yasiin Bey was cerebral, theatrical, and willing to challenge expectations, while the Apollo audience completed the exchange with its focus and responsiveness. Sitting there felt sacred and deeply moving, as though I had entered a living tradition rather than simply visited a famous old theater. Years later, my fortune had changed dramatically: instead of power lunches at Casa Lever on Park Avenue, I was schlepping couches into fifth-floor walk-up apartments in Harlem. After one job, as a snowstorm began, I passed the Apollo on my walk to the subway, and its iconic sign brought back a happy memory from before my capitalist world collapsed. On the 6 train downtown, I thought again about how honored I had felt to enter a place so central to Black music, New York, and the culture that shaped my identity.
