Fresh corn from a man that loves his job and appreciates life. I was getting a bit of a craving around lunchtime in Pentagon City but didn't want to dish out for an entire dish, so this hit the right spot. I got the lemon chili flavor and decided a cup was what I wanted it in. He decobbed the corn from three whole cobs! I thought I was just getting one cob of corn in a bowl but he really shelled out for it. The flavors are powerful, but that's kind of the magic of it. I've had Mexican street corn before, but this place didn't seem like it was exactly that, because of some different flavorings and add-ons that gave it a bit of southern flair instead. If you look at this place like getting from good flavorful corn soul food instead, this place will be right up your alley! I hope to be back for more the next time I'm craving corn in this area. read more

Very simple concept: Eloté, Mexican street corn, deconstructed. Also available on the cob, I'm told. Rather than eating directly from the cob like you would in many festivals or on the street, they remove the kernels for you, drop them in a plastic container, and hand you spoon. Clean and easy. Very "food court" friendly. After all, can't be walking around the mall leaking mayo or butter or dropping kernels from your mouth right? Some restaurants serve it deconstructed too so it's not a terribly uncommon presentation, I suppose. I decided to partake since I had a meeting here. I'm not a huge eloté fan, but I enjoy it ocassionally. DELICIOUS. Very sweet corn....good quality kernels. Big 'n flavorful. I requested butter instead of mayo (which is more traditional). They then add chili lime, parmesan and their "secret" seasoning to complete the "Mexican", their basic corn presentation. I'll try other seasonings in the future as there are lots to choose from. Nothing else here though. No additional menu items. A few soda pops in the cooler on the backside of the stand. Otherwise, just eloté, a bowl, and a spoon. Very minimalist operation. I'll start off by saying this. This review is based on my second time having street corn, but my first time having it from Shuck Shack food truck in Gravelly Park (but they do have a kiosk in the Pentagon City Mall). As I approached the man in the food truck (if I remember correctly, he may have been the owner) and he introduced himself and the young man working with him. I informed him that it was my first time ordering from them and asked him what his most popular items were which he was very knowledgeable of as he described each menu item to me. I decided to go with the Mexican blend (I think). While I was waiting for the young man to complete my order, the owner was very nice and provided great customer service as we made conversation instead of just letting me sit there like a stick in the mud. I really appreciated that. When my order was completed, I took it back to my area, stirred it up as the seasonings were on top (similar to how you do a mixed drink), and it was delicious! I wish I had taken a picture, but I devoured that meal. Overall: I will definitely be returning to Shuck Shack during the times where I am in Gravelly Point Park. read more

They have an amazing variety of seasonings - all at no additional charge - everything from Old Bay to Mexican Street Corn - to plain and simple salt, pepper and butter. The corn is cooked to perfection with just the right amount of crisp/tender ( you know what I mean). The concept makes you feel good too, a veteran owned business! This place is not clean or well maintained. I love Elote (Mexican street corn) so I couldn't wait to try this place. The server was so incredibly heavy handed on every single seasoning I couldn't even enjoy the corn. I was eating seasoning only. I came back a second time and asked for it in a cup instead (which seems like a better value btw because they use 2 ears of corn and it's only $2 more - not sure about that logic but I'll go with it) and I opted for the classic style seasoning since I was so traumatized last time and I found the corn undercooked and underwhelming. You're better off getting canned corn for $1 at the supermarket - at least then you can cook it and season it properly yourself. I wanted to like this place - but it kept falling short. Go to Mission in DuPont if you want some good Mexican street corn. Bummer but this place is a major miss. read more

I was pleasantly surprised to find a roasted corn place just a 5 minute walk from where I live (and in a mall of all places!). I moved up here from Texas (I have lived up and down the state, but grew up on the border) and had access to Mexican street corn from the source. I was firstly impressed by the way the corn is prepared. They use actual corn from the cob, no canned business here. I bought the corn in a cup simply because the cost for a cob is about $6+ and the price of a cup is $8+ with the cup containing about two to three cobs worth of kernels. Gotta get a bang for your buck, no? The Mexican street corn was decent. It wasn't exactly what I was going for, but it was good. The ingredients were just a little off from what I've traditionally had. Next time I'm just going to ask for a custom cup with the ingredients I'm used to having on it as they have plenty of toppings you can choose from! Will be back soon. read more

While looking for a oyster house for the lady and I to have dinner while in town I came across this place. While googling the menu I discovered that it's actually corn and not oysters. With that being said we came to town and ended up at the mall to find a pair of shoes for our niece. Everyone else had already had their "mall snack" and wanted to sit and eat for a second....& of course we sit right in eye view of this place. So I'm staring trying to see the menu and it's just barely out of view that I can't see it clearly. I gets up...walks myself over and it's Cobb corn and kernel bowls(which were sold out) I ordered the elote (Mexican street corn) and was attempting to let that just be it. My partner walked up and requested I get her one as well for later & she got the number 2 seller behind the elote(name I can't remember )but it had salt pepper oregano & we added parm...we shopped and made it back to our apartment and "later" finally arrived. We sat at the table and opted to share the oregano one....we both absolutely love it...they are perfectly cooked where the corn still has its crunch and natural sweet taste. We haven't dug into the other one as of yet but we will soon. Oooo bonus points. When you get them Togo they're wrapped in foil and can be easily popped in the over to reheat...ooo ooo double bonus it's not only black owned but black veteran owned. I'll def be back. read more

I am not happy with your pentagon city Arlington Va location. When I first went there months ago, I was unable to get service because no one was present during business hours. I went there again today and the guy told me it would be open in ten minutes. After visiting another store, I returned and the guy was gone. This was very good food and it was very worth it. It's a very interesting twist on corn and I would recommend it to all people.

In town for work and one of the only things that makes a work trip bearable for me is shopping. My hotel was in Arlington, and within walking distance to Pentagon City mall, so there I went. I come to D.C. for work fairly often and always stay in Arlington (I highly recommend Residence Inn at Pentagon City) so I've eaten at the mall food court on every trip. The Shuck Shack was new (to me) and wasn't crazy expensive so I gave it a shot. Listen up people...this part is important..try all the flavors you want as there are many..BUT...don't walk away without trying the Mexican street corn. I had no idea you could put mayo on corn (lol) but with the added spices?... Delicious!!! I also tried the flavor designed by the owner (I can't recall the name) but that was pretty good as well. The only other suggestion I have is to ask for the corn in a cup if you're not with someone that doesn't mind you crunching on a cob. For me, eating on the cob is essential to the experience..but what do I know? LOL read more
