I love how they're bite-sized and you can customize the donuts with different sauces/glazes and toppings on the side. I ended up going with Lemon glaze and Cinnamon/Sugar mix topping. I didn't look at all of the glazes since there were around 12 to choose from, but others I saw were Marshmallow, Strawberry, and Chocolate glazes Since they're made fresh to order, you may have to wait a couple more mins -- but it's worth it! We got donuts at DC Donuts one afternoon through Too Good To Go and all I can say is "Wow". It was a bit hard to find the tent at first because we thought we were looking for a restaurant, but we eventually found the brightly colored tent. We got a ton of donuts and a chai latte which was tasty. I've heard about this place and pass by it numerous times on our walks through Eastern Market and we had to stop this time to try it! The line was long and we ordered the mini donuts (8 pieces=$5)! Apparently DC-Donuts is the DC operation for Migue's Magnificent Mini's which is based out of Baltimore, MD. I didn't realize the two were the same until recently. I've tried their donuts when they were at Easter Market in DC and at the National Harbor in Oxon Hill, MD. My most recent experience was on F Street at the Pop of Spring street festival on F Street in NW DC. These donuts taste just like funnel cake. In fact the batter is the same. Imagine a funnel cake in the form of a mini donut. You can choose from many toppings including powdered and cinnamon sugar, chocolate drizzle, etc.. You add the toppings to the donuts yourself at the topping station. The donuts come out fresh and hot. If you're buying for yourself get the small box which I believe comes with 18 donuts. Trust me, it will be enough. It is hard to give a place that sells nothing but donuts and is consistent anything less than 5*. Overall a very good experience which I recommend. read more

What to get: Apple Flavor hot donut What else: It's just north of the Eastern Market, in the loveliest part of Capitol Hill The servers here were absolute sweethearts. They were closed for the day but had a bunch of "slightly defective" donuts that were still warm and gave them to me with a smile. I was very grateful since I was trying a lot of things on my list and running behind schedule. I've been back twice and tried them fresh and they are definitely better fresh. Don't save them for later, at least not until you've had some. The Apple one is really good, I don't like the Red Velvet one though and it's a bit sweet for me. I think all of you that like Red Velvet in general, though, will love it. They are tiny and bite-size too, which I appreciate since I try lots of foods at a time. People will say, and have said, these are the best donuts in the DMV. I am not sure I can disagree. The problem is that is not saying much (sorry DMV) (hugs DMV). I'm so fat that my patronus is a doughnut. From the humble powdery, white Entennman's to the lusciously layered and trendy cronut, it's safe to say that I've consumed a lot of doughnuts in my lifetime. A few new favorites have popped into my life recently (I'm looking at you Distict Doughnut!) but I do have a soft spot for Migue who has been churning out the most perfect confections from his little doughnut conveyer belt at Eastern Market for several years now. Three or four dollars gets you six of the most perfect, tiny, delicate donuts that you can top with all of the honey, caramel, chocolate, and powdered sugar that your heart desires. When you order you may think that six is WAY more than enough donuts for two people to share but you my friend, are wrong. These donuts are so light that as soon as it hits your tongue it will melt so most likely you will want. Do yourself a favor and order their large doughnut box. For just $3, they stuffed a small bag with way more than I expected - maybe 7? You can then dress up your plain donuts with your choice of toppings, from chocolate sauce to cinnamon-sugar to sprinkles, at no extra cost. They also sell fresh lemonade ($3, they squeeze the lemons to order) and blended coffee drinks. These donuts were fluffy, warm, and just gently sweet enough that they're a treat even without any toppings (though I recommend the cinnamon-sugar). They're not too filling and not cloyingly sweet, a perfect little snack for walking around the market. I'd have a tough time passing these by again now that I've tried them once. read more

I got a small bag of mini donuts because it was my first time here and next time I will definitely spring for a larger order. The mini donuts were $3 and you get a good amount and there is a station where you can add cinnamon sugar, glaze, powdered sugar, chocolate, etc. The stand is located at Eastern Market, typically outside. The kids working were very helpful and the donuts were freshly made and hot which made the experience even better. Now, if you are not a fan of cake donuts, this may not be for you, but please give them a try I prefer yeast myself and thought these were absolutely delicious. The first bite was like warm heaven, I added glaze and cinnamon sugar to my minis. I think I ate my bag in all of two seconds. I definitely prefer full size donuts, but these minis are great. The dough has apples in it and you add chocolate syrup/powdered sugar/sprinkles. I was skeptical that without a thick coating of frosting I would be able to enjoy donuts, but my doubts were soon dispelled. The donuts were every so slightly crispy on the outside but warm and moist on the inside. Self applied chocolate and sprinkles goes all over it, not just off to the side (take that dunkin donuts!). Zeke's coffee wasn't bad, especially after adding some chocolate, but they only have those mini creamer cups. I wouldn't make a trip to the eastern market for just these donuts, but they make a nice start to the day or compliment to your crepes/bbq from the stalls right next door. read more

I wanted to love DC Donuts so much, but I think that the District Doughnuts down the street is just doing a better job overall. I stopped by the stall at 3 PM on a nice Saturday so I totally understand that this is almost the end of their day. I was so disappointed to find that there was no sign explaining what the options were so I just walked up and asked for a small bag ($3). I was given a paper plate, which didn't work at all on a windy day, of 5 mini doughnuts. There was also some chocolate sauce and the tiniest bit of powdered sugar to scrape out of an open container to the side, which is SO unsanitary in the outdoors. Even though I watched the doughnuts come out of the fryer, they were not hot by any stretch. However, the plain cake doughnut itself was pretty good, which is the only reason I am at 3 stars instead of 2. I have seen enough places work this concept outside of DC that I just wasn't impressed. The two employees were really young and refused to talk to all four people I watched them serve, and each person was equally confused that there was a doughnut stall with no listing of prices, what different sizes existed, or if they had coffee. I like the Eastern Market area but don't feel any need to return here, even though the photos of early visits are very tempting. read more

One sincere pleasure of being an adult is being able to choose whatever you want to eat, even if it might be a bag of donuts covered in powdered sugar and chocolate syrup. This of course ends up being coupled with the complete displeasure of being an adult - knowing that you should be eating salad for lunch instead of donuts. But these donuts are mini and somehow I feel less like a heifer when I am eating them. I am guessing that the small bag of 8 mini donuts = 2 regular size donuts (and I typically don't even eat donuts), but since these are mini I completely rationalize that it is ok to eat the entire bag. I know that doesn't make sense, but I will just pretend it does. These delicious bites come right out of the fryer and are handed to you piping hot. The control freak in me completely adores how you can put your own topics on, the kid in me likes that they have rainbow sprinkles as a topping option, and the fat girl in me loves how I am actually allowed to put on as much chocolate syrup as I want. MINI-DONUT GOLD MINE! I was in Eastern Market yesterday, actually on a hunt for the crepe stand, but instead found the mini-donut folks first. The first glimpse of the dough glistening in the deep fryer stopped me in my tracks. "What a neat machine," I thought to myself, "I have to try them." So I got in line, and stared at the menu. 8 mini-donuts for $3 and 16 for $5. Complete steal if you ask me. Wanting only a pre-snack to brunch, I ordered 8 from the nice man working the stand, and watched in anticipation as the little donuts rolled down the conveyor belt, down into the the wired ladle and right into a white paper bag. Fresh, fresh, fresh, and hot, hot, hot. A quick dusting of powdered sugar and other spices, a special combination specifically made for the donuts, and some rainbow jimmies for fun. My friend and I practically inhaled them. They were just THAT amazing. First bite and it was hot, airy, slightly cakey, but not greasy at all (which was amazing considering they had just been fried). Eating them reminded me of the wonderful Cafe Du Monde beignets I had in New Orleans. With powder sugar all over my clothes, I continued to walk around Eastern Market completely content. These mini-donuts are Amazing. On first glance they just look like normal donuts, but they have powdered sugar, syrups and stuff you can add if you like. I added powder sugar to my bag and memories of Beignets flowed to my mind... the donuts were super soft, super moist and awesomely delicious. Are you ready to eat 900 calories of deliciousness? The "Blackout" donut is a chocolate donut with white chocolate ganache on top with oreos. I mean just the sound of that...I could go for another one buuuut I immediately felt the urge to do some sit ups right after I ate it. It was delicate, fluffy and even though they were actually not even warm, I didn't mind because of how deliciously good they were. It was $2.50 a donut which is on the expensive side.
