What I usually order is something simple, broccoli and garlic sauce with white rice. My mom - egg foo young. My daughter - chicken wings and fried rice. My food was great! I figured you cannot go wrong with broccoli and rice! I would definitely order it again. My mom her food and she tried one chicken wing was not so good. The grease wasn't appeasing in her opinion. But my daughter thought the food was good - the egg foo young and the chicken wings. I say go at your own risk. The egg roll was a bit darken in color, so the grease may have needed changing. Check them out if you are in the area. We visited on a weekday so perhaps eating on a weekend will give a different experience. I've ordered from here a few times over the years. Service at the front has always been friendly. Their prices have increased about a dollar an item over the past year, but that is understandable. The quality of their food has been average to good over the past few years, but I was very pleased with the quality of my last order which included Moo Goo Gai Pan, Hot and Sour Soup, House Special Chop Suey, Steamed Dumplings, and a few other entrees. I really enjoyed the soup, my head was sweating from the heat. My family had the other entrees, but they were not amused by the taste. Over the years the quality of the food has consistently gone downhill. The only thing Chinese about the place are the people who work there. Fried Rice is rice with soy sauce. What happened to the carrots, bamboo shoots, etc. And when has chicken or shrimp fried rice ever been served with the rice as a side? I've given it my last chance. It's the bottom and they continue to dig. They've got a regular following now - of people who don't know what good Chinese food is, or are too lazy to drive down to the Big Lots Shopping Center - so I don't expect any change. Being the only Chinese restaurant within a 2 mile radius, this restaurant is desperately in need of good customer service training. I have noticed on many occasions the hostess/cashier/order taker is very rude with customers. Coming in here it today took the cake, an older gentleman came in and asked for soy sauce with his order. This is my absolute favorite Chinese food restaurant. I've tried a ton around Hampton Roads and nothing beats this place. My family and I have ordered food from here for over a decade and have never had a problem. They have the best fried rice, a lot of other places just have sticky types. I love the sauce on their general tso chicken too. The broccoli is always fresh and not soggy. Their fortune cookies are always fresh and crunchy (some places have old ones that are soft). It's like they're trying to make this hard on me, Shun Xing, help me help you. The food is good, they don't deliver and ordering is a total pain. I stopped in on my way home from work while picking up dry cleaning because I didn't feel like cooking that night. I'm a tad disappointed that they don't deliver, but could get over it if the food was spectacular. The man behind the counter seemed impatient, but I had never been there before and wanted to peruse the menu before deciding. There was no one behind me, so I'm not sure what the rush was. We ordered the pork lo-mein and the 'Seven Stars Around the Moon' -- which is essentially every protein they offer in an unspecified sauce. Unspecified sauce was awesome and there was a ton of chicken and shrimp in the dish, it advertised roast pork, but we didn't see any in there. The Lo-mein was also pretty awesome, not super oily, good amount of veg and pork in there along with the noodles. We had enough of both dishes leftover for another meal for 2 people and I think we only paid like $17. Just moved into Suffolk. Me and my husband decided to get a quick to-go lunch, so we went to try this one out. Lady said hi to us when we walked in. We ordered chicken lo-mein and bourbon chicken. About the "intimidating attitude" other reviewers mentioned, being a Taiwanese, I just want to let people know that's part of the Asian culture. We are just not into too much greeting and smiles. When I was in Taiwan, my neighbor never respond to my 'hi', but he still helps me out whenever I'm in need. That's just not the norm that people do. It's definitely doesn't mean that they have a bad attitude or being mean or rude to you. It's just the way it is. Plus some language barriers maybe. They won't speak too much, and they tend to make the sentences as simple as possible. I recommend you this place. Worth a try. If you like Chinese food. When I asked about my order compared to the family specials posted on the wall he was very condescending and sarcastic, replying "you get what you pay for". Kept repeatedly asking me "you wanna change, you wanna change? You look confused." I did not change my order but he was speaking above a normal tone and talking to another customer at the same time "She not sure" Hello, I'm standing right here. I paid for my food and left. When we arrived home to eat I looked at the food. It was alright. We tasted the food and the best part was the egg rolls and chicken teriyaki. The general tso chicken was meh, the sweet and sour chicken was hard with several very small pieces and the chicken mushrooms that we requested to be extra spicy had no heat at all. I recently moved to area and am experimenting to find "our Chinese takeout place". I decided to try here first. We ordered the General Tso chicken combination, dumpings and teriyaki beef. The combination came with pork fried rice and an egg roll. The egg roll might have been the best I've ever tasted. I personally felt the dumplings needed more filling but what was there was very tasty. The teriyaki beef tasted just like every other teriyaki beef I've ever eaten. I also enjoyed the pork fried rice (not my favorite but I thought better than most). Most General Tso chicken I've had has been spicy. This chicken was not spicy at all. I thought it still had a good flavor to it. Overall, I thought the food was very tasty though my wife disagreed. She thought the dumplings were good (she agreed about needing more filling)...but she really didn't care for the beef or chicken. Difference in taste buds I guess. People comment on the staff being rude...I did not encounter this. I will tell you what we did encounter and honestly...from my experience is pretty typical of almost every Chinese takeout place I've ever been to. The person taking out order said, "what you want?" (Not rude though I have heard people comment about this being rude). He took our order...told us a price...took the money. When the food was ready he said "this for you" and gave us the food. That was literally all the interaction we had and while it wasn't necessarily overly friendly...it wasn't rude at all. I ordered food but was unable to pick it up due to an emergency. I was called by a very unprofessional irate lady; who continued to yell at me because I couldn't pick it up because I was rushing to the er. I tried to calmly explain the situation and apologize for it but she continued to yell at me because my priority was not calling her first but instead was rushing to the er. I will not be returning and strongly encourage others to do the same. There food isn't worth the terrible service especially with a Chinese place across the street that tastes the exact same and has way better service and even delivers.
