We ordered this a few nights ago and it was fantastic. We ordered the cheese wontons (Crab Rangoon) - they were delicious, had lots of filling, and cooked perfectly. The Szechuan chicken was great, pieces of white meat chicken , that melted in your mouth and lots of fresh vegetable and a spicy, savory sauce. The sweet and sour chicken was battered chicken . There was only Chicken and sauce, no vegetables. It was really good. The chicken teriyaki appetizer was great. 6 Tender pieces on skewers. This could have been a meal all by itself! The food is edible and won't make you sick but its painfully bland. Absolutely no taste at all in my orange chicken, barely any flavor in my fiance's general tso. At least, we think thats what we both ate. Its what we ordered but there was no way to distinguish who got what. They serve boba tea. The place is super clean and the woman behind the counter super friendly. I'll tell you that the food is great. I ordered curry chicken and onion and it was super packed with onions chicken and some peppers and things I never get at other stores. I asked for spicy and they provided just the right amount of kick. Even though I came close to closing they did not make me feel like I was a bother. First time trying the food there. Got the pork chow fun, which was light on flavor but reasonably good. Also, bourbon chicken, which was very salty. I'll probably chop up what's leftover and use it to season something else. The best thing, and it was good, was the orange chicken. Nice light orange flavor and seasoning. There was plenty leftover (we got a large order) and I had it again for lunch the next day. Steamed dumplings were large and well filled, but a little chili oil could spark those up. lastly, we had, shrimp rolls. They were eggrolls with a little bit of shrimp in it. Can't really recommend them. I prefer the Vietnamese style shrimp roll (Pho 79). The white rice was nice and sticky for using chopsticks and it came with the 2 chicken dishes. I ordered ahead online and the food was ready when I got there about 15 minutes later. Nice and hot. So, it's kind of a 50/50. Of all the chinese places near me, this one ranks in the front by far. The employees are super friendly, the food is good, and they even have a great vegetarian menu (for the wife). I recommend the General Tso chicken (basic I know, but it is what it is) and the wife loves their bean curd homestyle/eggdrop soup. They've been closed for COVID, and I miss them a lot. read more

WARNING: I contracted food poisoning. Never had any major problem with them. Every once in a while I would get what tasted like old food. I ordered orange chicken which was cold, stringy and chewy; Singapore and vegetable mai fun, which were greasy and strange tasting; lastly, several orders of the spring rolls which were super mushy in the center. I didn't eat much of the food because it was disgusting and weird tasting. I even called the restaurant and inform the female owner that something was wrong with their food. She said it was probably not cook long enough. Well, a few hours lately the mega storm came. I am still bedridden and unable to eat. I WILL NEVER PATRONAGE THIS ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN. One time with food poisoning is enough for me. Eat at your own risk, believe me, it is not worth what I am going through. Definitely love their food. The family that owns it are all hard working and friendly. They've won Hampton Roads Best Chinese bronze for several years now and it's well deserved and certainly better as well. I have always enjoyed every dish I've eaten, but this time, the fried rice was waaaaaaaay too dry :-( BIG disappointment! This is almost an unfair review, but I have to note it or others will make the same mistake I made. Tidewater Virginia is home to many local cuisines. One of my childhood favorites from this area is Yock. Some folks call it Yock A Mein. You can find this is generally in urban Chinese restaurants/take out spots. The dish is noodle based, spicy-tangy dish with a choice of chicken, pork, or beef. Best described as a cross between a soup and a pasta dish. All-in-all a good hearty meal. On a recent trip to Virginia (Tidewater), I went searching for this on a Sunday (Mistake #1). I saw Great Wall on my Yelp app and quickly called to see if Yock was on the menu. She told me yes and I made a bee-line for the strip mall. When we entered the restaurant there was a small crowd, which told me that their food was probably good. The service area was very clean and the restaurant was well air conditioned for all woks operating at the same time. We perused the menu and found it! AND it was less than $4. We got ahead of ourselves and decided to go with the chicken and pork. The woman taking our order stopped us in midst of our excitement to warn us that it was made with ketchup (and not the tomato, oily, spicy, etc. sauce that it is known for) and it had no vinegar in it (Mistake #2). I was clueless as to how this was even prepared, but I figured that it would work if she gave me a few vinegar packs (Mistake #3). So I placed the order, then figured that I could really spice it up by going next door to Farm Fresh (a grocery store) to buy a few condiments to add to the dish. This is where the story should have stopped. It is clear up to this point that this Yock may NOT be the one I remember from my childhood and by the servers own admission, it probably will not be close to what I have imagined, but I pressed on. Strolling the aisles of Farm Fresh for Cayenne Pepper and Vinegar. For some reason they only had a giant container of cayenne pepper, which has now brought the total dollar amount of condiments to more than the actual meal (Mistake #4). Went back to the Great Wall to pick up our order, found a comfortable spot, tucked our napkins in the collar of our shirt and opened the containers. *Crickets* I was speechless...as spaghetti noodles with ketchup and two hard boiled eggs stared back at me. This is NOT what I remembered nor did it taste like anything. After one bite, I put the container down and came to the realization that I just wasted approximately $20 trying to recreate a childhood memory. Now to be fair, this restaurant is not known for Yock and has a variety of other items on the menu. One failed item does not deserve 1 star, however, this is about Yock and at this particular restaurant. This was an EPIC fail on the cooks part! Great Wall should just remove this from their menu and stick to what they know. If I end up at Great Wall again, it won't be because of the Yock. read more
