This is one of those spots I never would have found but for yelp. And had I found it on my own, I probably would have never made it to a table due to the sketchy stripmall location, loitering customers from neighboring businesses, and dated decor. But I'm so glad I didn't let any of those things scare me away, because they serve some very nice Thai food here! First, I have to mention the service, which was exceptional. Friendly, incredibly attentive ("My dad hates it when we let water glasses get down to just half full," our main server shared with us), and did a good job guiding us towards the things on the menu we would like. Don't be afraid to ask for recommendations here - they know their stuff! Among the three of us, we got an order of pad thai with chicken, Thai curry duck, and the yum seafood salad. The curry sauce on the duck was phenomenal, and our server shared with us that they are most known for their duck dishes, so I would make sure that one of their many duck preparations is on your order list. The pad thai was solid -a nice rendition of a classic. And my yum seafood salad was light, refreshing, and tangy. I had asked for it at a medium level of spiciness, and I think they nailed my definition of medium. You got a nice level of heat, but it didn't drown out the more fragrant herbs. And perhaps best of all, the food value was superb. The three of us couldn't finish everything, and the total was just over $30. A great deal for such flavorful and fresh food. I'm not sure how much I'll be back since I don't live in the area, but if I find myself in need of a good dinner spot just barely off of I-85, I wouldn't hesitate to return. read more

It's Jan 29, 2021...they've been reopened for a while. They closed for precaution for their customers, as they should. Unlike a lot of other Atlanta restaurants that don't enforce anything nor care about you, only your money. Let me start by saying if you call in, you'll usually speak to the owner and he's the nicest young man you'll ever meet. Exceptional manners. Now the food... I'm normally not a fan of duck but I tried their garlic duck and it was phenomenal. I've ordered it 3 different times now. It's nit on the delivery menu like a few other things so if you want awesome duck, you have to pick it up. So if you're a lazy sack then stay home. The good news is for lazy people, everything rlse is great. I also recommend the chicken coconut soup, mix it with a little rice. It's like a dessert. Everything I've ever had here has been perfect. Wonderful no frills Thai restaurant with fresh, tasty dishes served by an awesome young man and his family. I love coming here for Thai, not just for the food, but also for the service. I've been going to Siamese Basil Thai Restaurant for over ten years now. My whole family loves this restaurant! At other Thai restaurants you order three dishes and two of them taste the same, but at Siamese that's never the case. My favorite is the "Three Flavor Chicken", but we always order a few things when we go and I can say the whole menu is great. I also like the fact that they have lots of pictures on the menu, because that is very important to me when I'm trying new things. The staff is very polite and the food always comes out within 15 minutes. The prices are also very fair. I just got done eating my to go food from here and thought to write a review! I finally hit 200 yelp reviews. Woot woot! I came to Siamese Basil with a friend who lives close by. Since Siamese Basil has 4.5 stars on yelp, I figured we couldn't go wrong (even if Thai of Norcross is right across the street). We came on a Thursday night and were the only folks in the restaurant. I was a little worried that it was so quiet. But thankfully the food was still delicious! We tried the Thai basil spicy noodles with tofu and Masaman curry with chicken. You can tell the chef the level of spiciness. We said spicy for everything. The noodles were really tasty and cooked just right with lightly fried tofu and veggies. The masaman was creamy, smooth, with avocados and cashews. Just as masaman should be. The portion was sizable- with leftovers to take home. In hind-sight, I think we shouldn't have ordered everything to be spicy (maybe one spicy, and one medium).I think the extra "spice" was sprinkling on red chili pepper. It's quality pepper, but I like spicy with flavor to back it up, not just burn-in-my-mouth. But all in all Siamese Basil is definitely a hit. I like the mom & pop feel (I'm pretty sure the waiter was the husband and the cook in the back was the wife. That's all the folks in the restaurant when we were there). Will be back again! read more

Great, authentic Thai flavors. Homey and family-run. Helpful menu guides you to their "greatest hits". You feel like you're eating real Thai food that hasn't been muted and sweetened for American tastes. I had a seafood soup and the broth was amazing. I also had the "Yum Tofu Salad". I've have eaten a lot of tofu, but I've never had crispy tofu like this. It had a terrific thin and crispy texture that went so well with the rest of the salad ingredients. I look forward to trying their various curries and entrees. Go. Get a group and go. The only downside I can see is there is no beer or wine, and as other Yelpers have noted, the strip mall is pretty run down. Who cares, though? Honestly I can't even with this place!! It ALWAYS exceeds expectations! This was our 3rd time enjoying their delicious (like I mean deliciousssssss) food. I don't usually write reviews but why I decided to do one tonight is because we walked in at 6:40pm & asked him if we could get our food before 7. The owner's son/waiter said "of course." We literally got our food in the next few minutes (even with it being a full house on a Friday night). We were able to finish our food and pay for everything at exactly 7pm! I have been coming to Siamese Basil since 1996. It is, hands down, my favorite Thai place. My two kids have grown up on the restaurants stir fry dishes. Their coconut-chicken soup is my go-to remedy for colds. I think between my husband and me, we have tried every dish on the menu with chicken, shrimp, and tofu variants of almost all of them. I am partial to the Larb and Nam Sod, but the Spicy Basil Noodles are like comfort food. The owners are really wonderful people who work hard to satisfy their customers and really get to know their regulars. I can't recommend Siamese Basil highly enough! Go try it! read more

was stuck at the UPS store all day and was googling good thai food in the area. This place came up. i was able to place an order and pick it up as soon as i arrived. I ordered Drunken noodle with chicken with spice. I've been looking for a good place that had drunken noodles ever since i moved to Georgia, and this place made a really good one. However, it is pretty far from where i live. if it was closer, i'd be going here often! the noodles were well cooked (not over done), chicken was tasty and not dry, and the spice was not too over powering. The restaurant was clean and not too noisy (even though i did take out). the host was very courteous and friendly (asian and not that good at math), but still was able to make a joke with it. i would recommend it and would also return, if i was in the area! read more

I thought the food was just ok. The service was exceptional. Our waiter was very friendly. We ordered tom yum soup, coconut soup, three flavor chicken and spicy noodle with shrimp. I thought the coconut soup was a tad salty but all the flavor were there. The chicken was really tender. I really liked the three flavor chicken! I have been going here for years. The foods quality doesn't disappointment and the prices of these dishes are not bad compared to the competition across the street *cough*Thai of Norcross*cough*. This restaurant is a smaller, family owned restaurant compared to the competition. So the prices are more affordable and the portions is great! I love the following dishes: -Seafood thai fried rice -Three thai spices Red Snapper -Massaman Curry -Pad Thai (Shrimp/chicken) -Spicy and sour seafood soup and Coconut Soup All the dishes up there are my family's favorites. We continuously come back to eat here for family celebrations and they don't disappoint. So that says something. Also, the soups and pretty much anything up there can be made super spicy. And if thats not enough, you can add extra spices from their spice rack. So for the spicy lover out there, rejoice! GIve this place a try! read more

I was surprised by the value and quality you get from this place. I've visited some of the other Thai restaurants in the area and have been underwhelmed by the seemingly-once-frozen-ingredients (L'thai organic and Mai Thai). I expected Siamese Basil to be similar, but it's a few notches above the rest. I had the curry duck dish, larb for appetizer, and fried ice cream for dessert (yes, I'm a fatass) . Everything was awesome and the the prices were surprisingly low. The veggies seemed fresh and the flavors were spot on. We asked for our dishes spicy and they were perfect. It seemed like a family runs the place and they were very friendly. We will be going back. P.S. don't be thrown off by the sketchy shopping center where this place is located. Amazing food! Family owned and they take pride in all they do. I have been coming here for years and have tried almost everything on a menu. Their pride in the food they prepare and make sure you are 100% satisfied. If you have a spicy pallet, challenge them and get schooled! They will have you licking your wounds and gulping water. Stick with medium spice on your first go round:) Must tries are coconut soup and spicy tom yum is great way to start. If you have someone to split it, try the Yum Beef salad. I have tried beef salads in many places but the flavor of this one is beet. Sweet tea is like your grandmother made it but Thai sweet tea is amazing too! For your entree, try the Catch of the day (deep fried and seasoned whole fish), pineapple shrimp curry, or any curry dishes are really great. Cant speak to desert because I always leave with half my entree and never make it that far. Have had thai in every major US city - even the white table cloth places in Atlanta that I won't mention by name. This place is better by 3 stars! I rarely give 5-stars, but Siamese Basil deserves this rating. Don't be fooled by the location in the need-to-be improved shopping plaza location. These are the places that you sometimes get lucky with and go inside and find a place you have longed to come across. I recently converted to primarily vegetarian/vegan from pescatarian so finding places that still serve great tasting cuisine is a challenge. I had the best Spicy Basil with Tofu or Thai dish from any restaurant in my life! It was medium spiced and just right - 4 out of 5 stars (I told you I rarely give a 5). I will be back for more. Siamese Basil is a hidden treasure; not for me, as I live in the area, but it's located in a fairly nondescript area of Norcross and thus off the radar screens of many. Most people I know, even those that love Thai food, haven't heard of it. That's a shame because Saimese Basil is my favorite Thai restaurant in Atlanta. The restaurant is located on South Norcross Tucker RD about quarter of a mile South of Jimmy Carter BLVD. If you didn't know what you were looking for you may miss it, as it's nestled away in an old shopping center off a busy road. The food, in a word, is fantastic; consistent, too. I usually order the Pad Thai with chicken (and ask for it "Thai Hot") with an order of spring rolls, which are served with a sort of sweet, yet quite spicy dipping sauce. I have also tried the Spicy Basil Fried Rice (with chicken or beef) and the Cashew Nut chicken, which were fantastic. Just recently, I tried the Kra Pao Kai Sub (Basil Ground Chicken) and it was absolutely delicious - perhaps as good as the Pad Thai. You pretty much can't wrong in this place. Next I plan to sample the spicy duck with basil which looks beautiful. I'm not a huge fan of curry personally, but those I know who are and have tried the several varieties of it available at Siamese Basil have told me that it is very good. Finally, the service is friendly, accurate and FAST. I phone in my order, drive the few minutes it takes me to get there and almost never have to wait for my food. The portioning is also quite generous. Usually, I can make two meals out of a single order, which is important for those of trying to pinch pennies. Cons: Nothing really, it just may be out of the way for most people. Don't be turned off by the fact the restaurant looks like it hasn't been updated since 1987 and may at times feel lonely and strange. . The food is first class.It makes makes up for it. Pros: Good portioning, fast service, great value. This is the best Thai food in Atalanta. A real "foodie' goes to where everyone else knows the good food is an Siamese Basil is one of those places. This is a rare find that deserves all five stars: great food, good portions, fair prices, and impeccable service. Their fresh rolls ( shrimp and basil ) are better than most other Thai places. The Poh Tak soup is sublime... almost too spicy at first taste, it quickly settles into perfection. The green curry with chicken was one of the best my wife has had. The crowning achievement was the Spicy Basil Duck! That was my entree but she wants to come back soon to order it herself. The service, as I said, was impeccable! Super fast at seating, the server was very nice, fast, and checked up on us the right amount ( I hate it when we go to a restaurant and they check up on us every minute). We've been to another Thai place based on yelp reviews and felt it was just hyped up. This place however, was sooo delicious! We ordered Pad sew ew, pad thai, and duck curry. The meat was nice and tender, curry was absolutely creamy and delightful. The noodles were cooked just right. Overall the amount of food was perfect as well. On top of that they give you free springrolls or coconut soup. We chose the springrolls and my god were they crispy and hot! Matthew was so kind to let me order something that was not on the menu Yum Woon Sen. Spicy Glass Noodle salad which I got to go and I thank you Mathew. It tastes perfect. The garlic duck is to die for! The duck is crispy on the outside flavorful and moist on the inside. The sauce is savory with a mix of vegetables.... the brown rice is also good. My staples are the Tum Yum soup (which is Thailand's version of chicken soup which can cure any illness) because it have plenty of herbs and spices and a healthy amount of chicken or shrimp. Also I always get the Chicken Thai Basil without the bamboo and Thai spicy. It is full of flavor, herbs, spices and vegetables that will fill you up. Other fantastic items are the mix vegetables with tofu for days you don't want protein. It has the perfect amount of seasoning that isn't overpowering and the sauce goes amazingly with the jasmine rice. FYI, this is a local, family run business so service can be a bit slow, but the food more than makes up for it and always comes out pipping hot. read more

The duck curry was tasty, roughly as spicy as I wanted it to be (in between medium and hot--if you're well versed in Thai cuisine, it's more a 4 out of 10). The other dishes were well received by my fellow diners. Peculiarly, despite this place having great reviews, there were very few people in there at the time. And the guy working, who I assume is the owner, was very nice, though a little slow (we were in a bit of a hurry). Family owned. Great place for lunch! It's usually empty when I stop by for lunch, which is fine for me because I hate dealing with crowds when all I'm trying to do is eat in peace and relax for a hour. Every dish is under $10 and its some of the best Thai food that I've ever had in Norcross. I usually get the Spicy Basil with Chicken or Shrimp that comes with basil, bell peppers, onions, & Thai chilies, the Garlic that's stir fried in chef's special garlic sauce served with your choice of meat with sauteed mixed vegetables or the Panang Curry consisting of Thai Panang curry paste, coconut milk, bell peppers with ground peanuts with your choice of meat as well. The Thai tea is delicious, of course and not overpriced like many other Thai restaurants in the area Every entree comes with coconut soup or one spring roll.
