Came here for lunch. Beautiful restaurant! I ordered pot stickers and chicken panang. The pot stickers were delish and the red curry sauce that came with them was flavorful. The chicken panang is chicken, peppers (red and green), in a red curry sauce with rice. It was really good although I thought it would be spicer than what it was. My food order was ready for pickup at the designated time that I had chose online through DoorDash. My only complaints are I kept getting an error message when placing the order on their website and they didn't provide utensils. Will definitely be back to dine in. read more

This used to be my favorite Thai restaurant but the quality of the food has deteriorated greatly. I read somewhere it was under new management (within the last 6 months). It's a real shame they have changed their processes and quality so much. All my favorite dishes (Basil Chicken, Tom Kai Ka, dumplings) are just not the same but the most egregious is the shrimp they use in the Basil Rolls. Each roll used to have two large fresh shrimp...now there are two or three baby shrimp, obviously frozen. I will try them one more time next weekend after a couple of months break. Went here with friends, and we all ordered different dishes to share. Most of the comments around the table was that their quality differed from before and some things tasted off. Starting with the most disappointing dish. Oh. The chicken and shrimp pad Thai was such a disappointment. I didn't mind the strange pinkish hue, but the flavor wasn't really there. There was even a slight sweetness. This sweetness didn't enhance the flavors at all. And there were two shrimps. Two. Maybe three since I'm giving them credit that one was hiding underneath the noodles somewhere. Some of the other dishes like the coffee pork or yen ta fo sounded intriguing but were also so so. The coffee pork didn't have strong flavors. I thought the meat itself would be more tender, but it wasn't. I truly didn't get teh yen ta fo. The assortment of tofu, fish ball, pork, squid were a random combination that didn't add to any sort of flavor. To me, they were random ingredients floating in the broth. I think I heard a comment that this version was different. The beef masaman and spicy crispy catfish weren't amazing nor bad. They were just average tasting. The beef curry was basically what it is: beef chunks, carrots, and potatoes. Nothing too unique to report. The catfish was indeed spicy, but I'm not too sure about the crispy part. These dishes were average imo. But certain things got a tad better. The pork from the Chinese broc crispy pork was great as it was super duper crispy, but the Chinese broccoli was very meh. Our friend commented that he has had better versions before and tastier variations in Thailand. The kao cluk kapi wasn't too bad. Though this was a rice dish, the pork belly and Thai sausage were really tasty. The red onion slices were actually delightful in adding some additional flavors and textures. And lastly the saving grace dish: The nam tok beef was really tart and flavorful. The boneless ribeye was so chewy and juicy. Combined with the sticky rice, it was wonderful. I think the nam tok beef was the only solid dish of all the things we ordered. Overall some of the dishes were a hit and some were a flop. Overall, the food was okay. read more

I felt like the quality has dipped. I've been here before and lately, I came with some friends and ordered a good amount of food but my wife was almost angry about the Pad Thai. She's a Pad Thai nut. It was almost too sour and the color was off. The beef massam curry was the best. I a fan of most thai curries in general. The fried catfish and coffee pork were good also. Everything else was good but didn't really stand out for me. I think we paid $32 per person after splitting the bill. 9 dishes and 7 people so the price was decent. We were all stuffed. TLDR: Pad Thai was really lacking in flavor and drunken noodle was too salty Used to really like this place but I feel like it's never been as good as the first time I went. The pad thai was really pale and had only a bit of wet sauce at the bottom. At first it just tasted like the noodles itself and a slightly sour(?) taste. I asked for some more sauce and the server was pretty nice about bringing me a small bowl of sauce. It helped a bit but not enough. Finally got around to checking this place out. They are kicking out some solid food with decent spice levels. Plus sides-the place is cute and well lit and the older gentleman we had as our server was super nice. The AC wasn't set at a comfortable temp and because of windows and the summer heat it was a little toasty...BUT it would be hotter if we were at a hawker stall on the street so on to the food! Chinese broccoli was a little under cooked at the stalk and over cooked at the leaf-pork was super tender and flavorful...and the brothy sauce was salty and light-had the stalks cooked longer and the leaves been tossed in later it would have been a perfect dish...didn't stop us from eating it mind you, but it's something to note. Basil rolls were standard, well made and all the ingredients were crispy, chilled and fresh-zero complaints. The dumplings were house made, but needed some seasoning within the meat mixture-they were pretty bland and the bottoms of them got soggy from being in the liquid at the bottom of the bowl. I wouldn't get them again-but A+ for the effort of making them in-house! Chicken Larb was perfect...I really appreciated the fact that it was minced chicken and not ground chicken. There is a difference in texture and the way the sauce coats the chicken that I can tell the difference in. The sauce was spicy and umami and all the veggies were right at the balance of being crisp but tender from being in the sauce-it's a balance and they got it this time. Isaan Sausage was good, nice ratio of fat to meat, little bit of heat and wasn't dried out. Sometimes the sausage has a tendency to be dry and dense even with all the fat...but this variety was nicely done. Spicy beef was slightly tough after it sat and came to room temp. We still devoured it, but it required some hearty chewing. Other than that little set back, the rest of the dish was delish. Nice heat, umami was there with a hint of sweetness on the front end. Veggies were crisp but tender and we love purple(red) onions on anything. We enjoyed our meal and might find our way back in the future. read more

On our annual drive through Atlanta on our way to North Carolina for the Xmas road trip, we'd missed the turn off for our traditional Urban Wu Szechuan stop. Surina Thai looked like a good alternative and I was right. And the halls are decked with lights and a big tree and it's festive-looking AF so it felt appropriate to have Christmas Eve Eve dinner here. The hostess was so nice, as was our waitress who was careful to note my dish (veggie delight) as vegan. She knew what was up! No blank stares, no guessing. Our food came out and I devoured it. This is a really light dish, not a heavy curry with coconut milk but stir-fried vegetables in a little bit of sesame oil and garlic with just the right amount of crisp and a good amount of tofu. I definitely needed to pour on the hot sauce but it's the perfect entree for someone that is looking to keep it light and not spicy. A perfectly chilled glass of bubbly made this experience even more celebratory. We were in and out (they close early, at 8:30 FYI) and back on the road in less than an hour. read more

THAI-ME TO BE HONEST | Surina Thai was just ok. After the previous restaurant Chom Chom, shut down, Surina took over - maybe because I loved Chom Chom, I was expecting so much more from Surina Thai. We started with some Thai Milk Tea since I was in desperate need of caffeine. We were a group of 4 so we decided to try quite a few dishes. Our favorite was the drunken fried rice, which was flavorful and hearty. Everything else we tried was pretty mid, including the Thai Fried Chicken, the Larb Chicken, the Papaya Salad, the Pot Stickers with Red Curry, the Surina Noodles, and the Hainan Chicken Thai Style. I think maybe my expectations were just too high for food that was mediocre, based on fellow Yelp reviews and ATL Asian Eats shoutouts. I was happy to finally visit the restaurant after driving past it every day on my way home from work. There were only a few diners when I arrived and I was allowed to choose my table. In the warmer months there is an outdoor patio that must be lovely but tonight was cold and I sat indoors by the window. I started with hot jasmine tea which was light and comforting. There is a full bar and a large cocktail menu, but I preferred warm drinks this time. I ordered Kao Moo Dang from the house specialty menu and it was delicious. Pork three ways: fried pork belly, pork sausage, and roasted sliced pork with sweet gravy. There was also a boiled egg and sliced cucumber, and a dish of jalapeno soy sauce, all over white rice. I enjoyed every bite, the flavors and textures were great. Then I was offered dessert: either crème brûlée or mango sticky rice. Well, who wouldn't have the mango sticky rice? It was fantastic. Surina Thai is located on the corner of Buford Highway, so it could be easy to miss while driving, but it is a solid casual spot for Thai food. The inside of the restaurant is nicely decorated with chandeliers, and the staff are friendly and the service is fast. I ordered the Chicken Pad See U and while it tasted good, I felt like the sauce was a little too sweet. My friend and I also split the Crab Angels which were pretty tasty and it also came with a yummy sweet chili sauce. The portion sizes were pretty large as well! read more

Service was slow despite coming in around 3:30pm where there was nobody else except my party of 3 and another party of 2, so I can't really imagine how slow it must be during lunch/dinner hours. But the food was good! We did family style and all agreed that the Panang Curry was our favorite - it's a little more coconutty than usual, but I loved it. I also really enjoyed the Pad See U, but will note that it is sweeter than usual. Some people in my party commented that they're more used to it having a stronger oyster sauce flavor. The Nam Tok Beef was tender, but not worth the price in my opinion. It's also got a more acidic flavor to it and it just wasn't something that I cared for much. Portion sizes for the curry and noodles were good! The interior is nice and has a more upscale feel! They have a full bar available, which I feel is unique to most thai places. I came to Surina Thai around 4:20 PM on a Friday. The restaurant was nearly empty. There was just one party of three. I was greeted by a young woman who told me I could sit wherever I liked, so I chose a back table near the natural light and surrounded by plants. Though the table could seat 5-6 people, the restaurant was completely empty, and I only planned to have a quick bite hours before any dinner rush could occur. As I was about to seat myself, an older server abruptly insisted I move to a smaller table in the far corner of the restaurant, stating that the one I chose was for larger parties. I pointed out that no one else was in the restaurant, but she continued to insist, which made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. I told her not to worry about it and chose to leave instead. As I walked out, she slammed the menus on the bar and began yelling in another language. Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to try the food, but the unwelcoming experience and poor hospitality were enough to ensure I won't be returning. read more

This was an excellent lunch experience on a Sunday afternoon. We there early, around 11:30am, so there were only a few other customers at that time. It's a very large restaurant, and the service and food were both excellent. It was quiet and very chill in there on a weekend afternoon. We split a papaya salad, which tasted fresh and so spicy (despite me being a wimp and asking them to make it less spicy for me... so I can't imagine how spicy it is normally haha). I had the Pad See U, and my husband had the Pad Woon Sen, and we both loved our entrees. The lunch portions must be the same as the dinner portions because they were so large. I ate more than half of mine, but still had enough for lunch leftovers another day. And I always find Thai noodle dishes to be excellent leftovers. The only thing I'd point about about my Pad See U is that it did not contain any broccoli - it was bok choy instead. Which is completely and totally fine by me, but I'm not sure if that was just how they happened to make it the day we went, or if that's standard for them (the menu says broccoli is in the dish). Everything is always fantastic at Surina Thai! I usually order the vegetables with shrimp. The service is usually really good. My only complaint is that it takes them a while to acknowledge you when you're sitting at the bar waiting to order. It's happened to me three or four times. Ambiance is great as well. Surina Thai has been open for four years, per our server. I wish I'd known sooner! It's not in my neighborhood, but it is worth a drive. I could eat Thai every day, and this may be the best Thai food I have ever had. Everything was fresh with expertly melded flavors. We had spring rolls, tom kha (coconut soup), a noodle dish and yellow chicken curry, with a crème brulee for dessert. All was satisfying and delicious. The spring rolls were the best I've had - tender and flavorful. The Pad Woon Sen was of course mild but deeply satisfying. We lapped up the soup - just beware of the sweat-inducing red chilies lurking in the depths - whew! The yellow curry was slightly sweet with a lovely complex mild heat. Our server was so kind and attentive that honestly, we felt the love! Portions are large - two entrees became two more meals the next day. If you forced me to come up with any criticism, ok, the shrimp in the soup were rubbery. Whoopie. Still delicious. There's an attractive patio which I plan on enjoying in good weather. Discovered this place by accident. I thought it was Surin of Thailand from Midtown second location since I love love the thai bbq chicken there and gave it a try and have been a fan ever since! (They do not have thai bbq chicken at Surina.) The only curry that I eat is green curry but we somehow ordered the massaman curry and fell in love! It has all the components that I love - avocados, cashews, and addicting sweetness with tender chicken. We've had it so much, we've moved on to panang curry since it has a hint of spice and today, I discovered that they had green curry! I don't know if they've always had it but green curry is only specified in the description under "Shrimp curry." I was thrilled and it definitely hit the spot! Shrimp was cooked perfectly and curry had a good balance of coconut milk vs the curry paste. If you're craving a good thai curry, I would definitely recommend this spot! read more

Here at Surina Thai, the decor is modern, but with earthy tones due to the heavy use of richly colored wood. There's a rather large statue of a Buddha laying on his side (at least, we hope it's a he, since otherwise it would be immodest), and thee are various tropical plants both inside and out. There's a lovely outdoor patio, even though it only has a view of some parking spaces and evergreen foliage from the landscaping trees. It's somewhat loud inside and the seating isn't really ideal for an intimate date, but it's be great for families, work buddies, friend gatherings, or an informal date. The service was a bit slow, so I took a star off for the inconvenience of waiting a long time to receive service even though we were seated in a. Timely manner. The host that showed us to our seats turned out to be our waiter, the bus-buy, and anything else in-between. He was very busy, since he was the only waiter working at the time. It was a bit after lunch (a late lunch), so you'd think it wouldn't be as busy, but there were plenty of customers. The food was ON POINT. I could find nothing wrong with any of the foods we tried. I forgot to take pictures of the chicken masaman curry bowls my mom and sister got, but I tried them and they were nice; creamy and sweet sauce, perfect steamed rice, with chicken, cashews, and avocados! I love it when they use avocado in the masaman curry! The crispy wontons were light and crispy with a little bit of ground pork tucked inside. The sweet chili sauce for dipping them was phenomenal. I'm pretty sure they're using something premium or they're making it in house. There's no way this is made with corn syrup- the natural honey shines in this sauce and it's just delicious! They served the same sauce with the piping hot egg rolls (again light and crispy) and it really was just SO GOOD! The crispy calamari had a different appeal. Yes, they were light and crispy on the whole, but inside- nearer the squid meat -the crispy exterior became a bit thicker due to the juiciness of the calamari. I had fun changing up the flavor using pickled jalapeños, sugar, green pepper sauce, and chili pepper powder along with the honey-based sweet chili dipping sauce. The chicken satay served with peanut sauce and lightly pickled cucumber slices and carrot strips was as good as any I've had before. Juicy chicken and sweet, nutty sauce. Lastly, the Namsod and Larb were so delicious, I just had them as my main course. They look almost identical, but there's a huge difference in flavors. The Namsod pork is made with a citrus and ginger sauce and it has raw peanuts (that were lightly cooked) that add a nice little crunchiness to the texture. It has aground pork and onions that stand out and it's served with a wedge from a lightly blanched cabbage. The Larb pork is made with a fresh basil leaf-infused sauce and it's herby nature is vastly different from the citrus-ginger sauce in the Namsod. It is also made with onions and ground pork and served with a wedge of lightly blanched cabbage. Both dishes were served atop fresh cuts of romaine lettuce that did not wilt under the hot, meaty dishes. These were very enjoyable, but I will say, I can't imagine sharing one with anyone because you really need to pick up the cabbage to pull off pieces to eat with the meat mixtures. If they served it with chopped cabbage, it would make more sense for an appetizer being shared with others. That said, even for one person, the cabbage wedges were not the best form for eating this dish- they were messy because they didn't hold the meat and juices would flow all over my fingers as I attempted to stuff each wedge pice and try to eat it. I think they need to rework these dishes, if they're mean to the be appetizers, so that they are easier to share with others. Overall, the food was excellent, the ambiance was nice - yet informal, but the service wasn't really up to par. I give them a solid four for food and presentation. I knock a point off for the service lag time and loudness of the restaurant. Just A Note: there's a very nice set of white-light, modern-art sconces on the back wall that I really liked- they were the only ones, but they reminded me of two white turtle doves. Perfect family date night! I love this place.. we sat outside on the patio, the lighting and plants made it such a beautiful setting. For drinks I had a lemon drop martini and lychee martini. Both good, the lychee was pretty strong. My friend got a Moscow mule - he didn't love it and hot sake which he did enjoy. On to the food. I went with my friends and we decided to do family style so we could try a lot of different dishes and I'm so glad we did! I avoided Thai food a lot in the past because a lot of their foods have coconut, which I'm not a fan of. Their Tom Yum Soup is so good, especially if you like really sour things. The size of their soup spoon was really awkward though, it didn't quite fit in the bowl that the soup came in what with it being donut shaped for the flame in the center. Their fried squid is not something I would think to order at a Thai restaurant but it was delicious! Basically calamari but a better batter and it came with a sweet sauce. I think my favorite dish was the papaya salad! It was my first time having it and omg so delicious! But watch out, you probably don't want to order it if you have a low spice tolerance. Their Hainese chicken was also super bomb! Again, not something I would think to order since it's not a traditional Thai dish, but it was good! Although, I wouldn't order it again because it didn't really stand out to me that much. Their pad see ew and pad Thai were both great dishes! One of their specials was H1 on the menu, a fried rice type dish. It was okay. It was incredibly shrimpy tasting so if you're into that, go for it, but it wasn't too my taste. We were in Chamblee around 5 p.m. on a Saturday and wanted to grab dinner before heading back across town in traffic. My wife located this place not far away, so we gave it a try. The restaurant is located in a cluster of buildings at the corner of Chamblee-Tucker and Cumberland. We approached on Cumberland and turned into the shared parking lot. We were driving further in to find the restaurant (it is near the front facing Chamblee-Tucker). However, once you can see it, you are pretty far down a one-way driveway. There were no parking spaces at that point. So, we had to exit onto C-T, drive a few hundred yards up (as it is divided), do a U-turn, and then return to Cumberland and turn into the parking lot again. So, my advice: just park in the back of the lot and walk in. The dining area is one big space with high ceilings. It is decorated nicely. A large bar occupies one wall. Our server arrived and got our drink orders. The wine selection seemed sort of limited. My wife then inquired about a fish dish that was listed as 'market price'. The server took her order but then (to their credit) noted that she would check with the kitchen to confirm - sometimes market price could be over $40. That was a lot more than my wife wanted to spend, so she opted for a chicken & vegetables dish instead. I got a curry dish. Overall, I thought the pricing (for standard dishes) was a bit higher than I'd have expected, but not too far out of line. Also, they didn't seem to offer soups in individual serving sizes (at least given the pricing). Soups were listed for $13, so I had to assume that was going to server 2+ diners... We skipped the soup. The dishes arrived shortly and were very good. Spicing was not too aggressive, even for 'hot'. Portion sizes were about average (not huge or skimpy). Overall, I got the impression that the focus here was more 'a bar that happens to serve Thai food' versus 'a Thai restaurant that happens to have a bar'. Not a complaint, just an observation. If I wanted Thai food in this area again, I might shop around a bit and compare this to other places. First time here and this place was pretty good. I ordered the drunken noodles with shrimp and my friend had the curry. Flavors were robust and the food came out disturbingly fast lol. I'd definitely be back though. They're in a plaza so there was free parking. read more

Nice place, clean & orderly with indoor & outdoor seating. We quickly went to a table and felt the menu was full of great options. We received quick service & the food came out in a decent timeframe. If I have one note of encouragement to ownership please serve all platters together, not as they come out.
