Rip off. I need to get a smog check. I go to one place, they pre-test: catalytic converter not…read moreready. They can't do the check, tell me to drive it more. So I drive on freeway to another place: same story. Cat Converter still not ready, can't test. Notice BOTH places were able to determine it was not ready with the pretest so no services rendered and I wasn't charged anything. So this morning and drive it for 1.5 hours and end up here. I tell them "please pretest, it wasn't ready the last two times." They have no waiting area so I stood off to the side. I see them pretest, they say nothing. I see them start the real Smog check. Great! All is well. After they are done the worker approaches me, all smiles, and says "Ok, all done! Oh wait--" He read the print out of the test he was about to hand me: The catalytic converter wasn't ready. And they did the test anyway and CHARGED ME for it. I ask "Why did you do a smog check you knew would fail ahead of time?" No answer. His solution was to charge me $50 and retest for $30. The next time he promised he would do the pretest (the thing every other place does first to determine if they should do the smog check) "for free." And, why on earth would I go back?

Had trouble with other Smog Check places because my catalytic is no longer Carb certified but was installed during the certified years. As long as you have proof it was installed during certified years you pass. Just show a receipt from Catalytic shop or a passing test during the certified years. Many others wouldn't pass me, I called the California Referree and submitted complaints. This testing site new the rules and passed me just like the referree said they should. Great experience and will be back again.
