They helped pick out handlebar grips, tires, helmets and locks, all stylish and high-quality. The repair shop (a few steps away) is where it all gets done. I started my morning with meeting the morning crew who were wheeling out the classic bikes for sale; both vintage and new. Super Knowledgeable and just flat out DOWN TO EARTH!!!! I found a road bike which fit my needs and was well within my price range. I left with a vintage bike mechanically sound for riding miles in the future. While the sun continued to brighten the neighborhood began to ride up for service. They handled all of there needs. They must have flipped a dozen bikes in the short time I was there. Merely in need of some spokes (or so I thought) I came in to Sic Transit with my bike, the back wheel of which I was planning to rebuild. Aaron was the mechanic that I saw upon first walking in and he instantly offered me advice on what to do as far as rebuilding the wheel. That advice? Keep the old wheel, get a new rim and build an entirely new wheel. I hesitantly agreed (I would be losing some nostalgia from this bike by getting a new rim), and Aaron offered to go back to his place and get a rim he thought would work (first sign of the wonderful customer service I experienced here). Long story short, I ended up deciding to use my old rim (me being stubborn, mostly) and Aaron still agreed to help me with this, despite the trouble it might give me. He then proceeded to let me use a spoke wrench and their truing stand to work on the wheel myself, and when I had questions any of the mechanics were more than happy to help me with anything I needed help with. Aaron ended up helping me find the right spokes, figuring out what kind wheel lacing I needed to do and how I would tension/true the wheel (the guys ended up letting me use their truing stand a few days later to get the wheel true after I laced/tensioned). I'm not sure I would have been able to get through my first wheel build without the patience and knowledge of the mechanics here at Sic Transit. I am extremely impressed with the friendliness and openness of these guys, too. Even from what I noticed while quietly observing (from the corner while working on my wheel) other customers coming into the shop for various needs, every single customer was happily helped, talked to and well cared for by the mechanics. Just the other day I happened to need a new chain, so I brought the bike into the shop. One of the mechanics (can't remember his name) gave me many options, one to either buy a chain tool and replace the chain myself, have him fix it, etc. I ended up having him fix it and he not only did a really nice job with the chain but we also had a nice conversation about bikes. These guys not only have an incredible love for bikes but they care equally about those riding the bikes. Without a doubt I will be returning to the shop with any bike needs, and I have no hesitation whatsoever recommending the shop to any of my friends. read more

As far as I'm concerned, this is the only real bike shop in Ann Arbor. If you REALLY ride bikes --if you're a daily rider, a commuter, a single-speed enthusiast, if you do bike touring, are stoked on vintage or rare steel frames, etc -- this is definitely your shop. That said, if you just need something affordable for getting to class, this is also your shop. They build up used frames for a good price. The dudes know their stuff and are easy to talk to and learn from. If you are someone who wants to spend $2-3k on a 19 lbs road bike that will sit in your garage 360 days out of the year, there are other shops for you in town. They observed an abundance of self-distancing--I left the bike outside, then picked it up outside the next day--and worked very quickly. These guys are LOSERS. I brought in a bike that was drivable except for a slipping chain. What they returned to me was an undrivable mess with brakes that didn't work, a fender that was rubbing terribly, and a shifter that wouldnt shift. their excuse was "sorry we dont have time to do performance tuning today"... This was not about performance tuning - this was about being able to ride my bike at all! It wasn't until I told them I wouldnt pay until it was fixed and demanded tools to fix it on the spot that they tried to rectify the situation - begrudgingly. Honestly I'm not a bike tech, but I do better work than these yahoos. Seriously - look at their site - They dont seem to take bike repair seriously - they are a bunch of fruitcakes. How do they stay in business? If you go here, you deserve what you get - consider yourself warned! read more

I can't say enough about this place. I came in on a Tuesday, not knowing they were closed, and the gentleman who just happened to be in the shop took time out of his day to look over the bike, give me a quote for a single-speed conversion, and offer some tips if I decided to do it myself. Ultimately I opted to have them take care of it, and I'm sure glad I did. Not only was the final product exactly what I wanted, but they got it done faster than they originally said, and even under the quoted price. On top of that, all the dudes at the shop were extremely nice, detail-oriented, and obviously very knowledgeable. I was happy to see it packed with customers when I came to pick my bike up. I stopped in yesterday after test riding a few bikes elsewhere. After explaining my needs, Jess let me test ride an All-City Space Horse. The shop is located near a path that is perfect for a test ride. After returning, I knew it was the right bike. Jess is a bike fit expert (operating a fit studio upstairs) so I was confident I was buying the right size bike. Every other employee (and owner) I encountered was pleasant and helpful. I cannot recommend this place enough! I am relatively inexperienced when it comes to bikes, all I knew was that I wanted a commuter to get around the city. The store is beautiful and they have a decent amount of stock, including Bianchi, Jamis, and Linus. Mike, one of the owners, paid attention to what I thought I was looking for and offered suggestions and recommendations. I was able to take my time without feeling rushed, and took 3 bikes for a ride at the nearby bike path by the river. I give sic transit repair shop 4.5 stars- take away 0.5 star for the price, customer service has always been very helpful and the work professional. I give the store-front 1.5 star. I've been in the store twice- once looking for a lock, and today, looking for a vintage brooks saddle. Both time the experiences are exactly the same. The one guy helping me today was VERY eager to sell the top of the line things, and wouldn't bother explaining much the vintage pieces. When he figured out that I am not interested in buying the new stock in store, his help VERY quickly disappeared. When I inquired about how the saddle feels, he puts it on a bench for me to try; So unless you walk in with a massive credit line, ready to buy whatever they sells you, this store is not for you- it's all about the image and the life-style. read more

My wife and I went here to get a Linus Dutchi bike as a birthday present for her, and ended up spending a great time learning about all the different options they had. After we bought the bike they helped us pick out a pannier and lights for it and they then answered all my obnoxious questions about used road bikes. I went to Sic Transit Cycles to get my bike tuned up and have some minor repairs done. The guys there are pros. I originally found out about Sic Transit on Yelp and then they were subsequently recommended to me by a friend who is a hardcore cyclist. When I went in, Michael helped me. He was a great dude from the get-go. I admittedly don't know much about bikes, except that I like to ride mine, but Michael was cool with helping me out and didn't make me feel like I didn't belong there. As far as price, I don't feel like I was overcharged, and Michael didn't try to sell me superfluous repairs or parts that I didn't need. He simply fixed the bike the way it needed to be fixed. In terms of quality, I've been riding my bike around for a few days and the job appears to be top-notch. The turnover time was also great, especially during a busy time of year of biking. I'll definitely go back next time I need something done to my bike and I even grabbed a bunch of extra business cards to pass out to my friends. Whether you're a novice rider like me or a hardcore cyclist, Sic Transit is the place to go for your biking needs. read more

This is what a bike shop should be. They specialize in vintage bikes, but they also are all around knowledgeable about bikes in general; and not in a condescending way. When i first got into biking a few years back, the staff here was incredibly helpful in helping me to restore an old vintage bike, and I've stuck with them since. They will often do minor/and or tiny repairs free of charge, and they actually remember who you are. In terms of rates for actual repairs/parts, their prices are very competitive. In terms of repairs they are a little bit below average priced, and parts only slightly higher(although for finding hard to find vintage parts this place can't be beat). These people really know their stuff. What you will get: rows of custom refurbished bikes, expert knowledge, honesty, clear communication, warm fuzzies for supporting a great local business. What you won't get: a deeply discounted "steal." For what I do (commuting around Ann Arbor pulling a trailer), I could have purchased a new bike of the same brand, that would have better suited my needs, for less at a big box store. Unfortunately, I only realized this later. (Initially, I only compared prices from local bike shops and didn't even think to consider a place like Target.) But I do feel great about patronizing a local business where I can engaged in face-to-face transactions with a craftsman who stands behind his work (which Sic definitely is!) I also appreciated that they purchased our old bikes to flip and gave us a (modest) store credit. They did tell me upfront that I could have gotten more by selling them myself on Craigslist. (Can you say integrity?) But, since I have tired of dealing with Craigslist, Sic's offer to take the bikes on-the-spot was very attractive. Bottom line: honest, ethical place with talented staff. read more

I have only used the service center so this rating applies to it only. I took my TerraTrike Sportster in to service the front derailleur, which had frozen up. They found it only needed a new cable. They could have told me it needed expensive repairs & I would have believed them, so now we know they are honest. However, the best part was the adjustments they made on the front derailleur. For the first time ever it works perfectly. They really know what they are doing. In addition to that, I got same day service at a very reasonable price. read more

I, my husband, and our 18-month-old daughter recently purchased two bikes, a child seat, and other accessories from Sic Transit, and we had an absolutely wonderful experience. The staff were extremely courteous, helpful, and friendly, but never in a pushy way. They were extremely knowledgeable about all the design and safety questions we asked. The co-owner was incredibly patient and playful with our 18 month old daughter as she tried on the infant bike helmets. Our daughter had a lot of fun too! The staff even carried the gear I purchased out to my car, since I had a toddler in my arms. They were also extremely thorough and efficient in attaching a bike rack to our car and a child seat to our bikes. When you purchase a bike at Sic Transit, they will service it for you (for free) if any issues come up-- which is tremendously reassuring. We are so excited to have found Sic Transit, and so grateful for all their help and advice. Highly recommended! read more

I reviewed them on Google and I was so disappointed with my visit I thought I'd do it here too... I was very displeased with my first, last and only visit to Sic Transit Cycles. After finding them on the internet I was expecting to find a courteous staff that was enthusiastic about cycling but I encountered an apathetic and alone "worker" watching videos on the computer behind the counter. I walked in with my brother, both of us willing to spend money but the person on duty (who I just found out is actually one of the owners, Joseph Bollinger...) barely said a word to us the whole time and didn't acknowledge we were there until I approached him with a question... And then in the middle of my explaining to him what I was interested in, continued to watch a video on the computer. I stopped talking and he paused his video. "I'm sorry... What was that?" he said.... Rude. What this guy doesn't realize is that my brother and I were actually looking to purchase some of those Brooks saddles that are over $100 each. I was also interested in having them do some work on my bike. Instead, my brother and I walked out empty handed with no intention to return. This guy's rude attitude cost them several hundred dollars not to mention happy returning customers. It is hard to like a business involving something i care so much about when you see that the owners themselves don't care about their customers as much as they try to appear to care about cycling. read more

Buyer Beware on this shop. I brought in my commuting 18 speed men's bike for a tune up. Instead of calling me when it was done that week, I had to keep calling them to find out when it would be done. It took twice as long to get done. I had someone drop me off at the shop so I could ride it home. About a mile from the shop, the back wheel fell off. I was stuck trying to fix it with my hands. I called them from my mobile phone to let them know and ask what to do. Their answer was to carry it back to the shop on my back and they would fix it. I had someone pick me up eventually to take me home but the shop was closed by the time I could get a ride. I would highly recommend against taking anything to this shop. read more

Outstanding service experience... flexible, attentive and very professional. Long course triathlete and XTC MTB rider, my bike function is all important - since I'm not a "wrench". I purchased a net set of DT Swiss rims for my MTB, and needed them fitted (chain, rotors etc). Phoned a number of shops 5-6 days... SIC said "sure" bring the, over - drove 25 miles and met Jonathan... you have to visit this "open air" shop to see how cool they are... I'm so impressed. Johnathan, quickly sized up the project, reassembled and torqued the rotors, cleaned/adjusted the pads, changed the chain, and made the adjustments... AND (this is the clincher.. did a test drive ("we don't want you crashing - let us make sure everything is OK"). Reviews, are just reviews... your experience may differ but this is my go to shop... 2 wheel tango is gone... these folks are personal - I don't mind the drive from Canton at all. :). Great experience today. Rode off on my bike after paying for a tune up and noticed it was still shifting automatically, so I went back and the repair guy rode it around discovered it was just the shifter, not the gears, so he tightened it for me - something I could have easily done myself if I wasn't utterly clueless.
