I first did not discover this store, I visited an "official" Trek store in Commerce but the salesman talked down at me the entire time so even though I got to test ride the bike I wanted there, I didn't bother to purchase even though they had my bike in stock and assembled. Instead, I did my research on locally owned/operated bike shops and discovered South Lyon Cycle nearby who sold Trek and seemed to be family-run with great reviews. I ordered my bike online on a Saturday through Trek, had it shipped to South Lyon Cycle for free delivery/assembly. They received the bike on the following Tuesday, called me once they had it and said it would be assembled and ready to take home within the hour! I couldn't believe how quick a turnaround it all was! The employee took his time telling me the most important differences (i.e. special tire gauge/adapter) which I appreciated knowing about ahead of time instead of discovering it whenever I stumble upon it. The entire time, I felt valued and taken care of without being treated like I didn't know anything about biking. He showed me the layout of the store for other accessories and then left me alone to shop without any pressure to buy what I didn't want/need. The epitome of a family owned, small business. I bought my first real (not from Walmart) bike here over ten years ago and just purchased a new bike from them this year. They have always been incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and work to make sure you're completely happy and feel secure with your purchase. When I was not local to the area for a couple years I utilized other shops and nothing compares to this place. It is the same people running it that have always been there. They're great for bike purchases, repairs, tune ups, accessories and help with any bike related questions. I've had them customize both of my bikes to suit my needs. Gary went way out of his way to help me disassemble an elliptical bike I bought elsewhere and needed to return. He called the elliptical bike company when he had a question, went to their website to watch instructional videos, and then packed it all up for shipping......no small task! This is a bit of a tough one to review, seeing as I'm not an avid cyclist. As a casual rider, however, South Lyon Cycle has always been a staple in the city, and one of the first places I've gone to in order to find the bike that I wanted. If you're looking for top brands, this is the place. You'll find basically all the bikes you could ask for, and they don't cheap out on the quality. The owners run this place beautifully, they are wonderful servicemen, and will even educate you on the items in the store. So essentially, they KNOW every product that's out there, and can tell you anything you need to know. Obviously, with great product, comes the price. You won't find any bargain basement deals here. To get a quality cycle, you will need to cough up some money. If you're a casual rider, this really isn't the place to get your bike. It's more of a place where you go there, to see what you're interested in, and what the good bikes will be costing for you. A nearby bike shop wanted to replace several parts to fix the problem and I wasn't willing to spend the money. I have purchased many bikes from them in the past and had many friends and family buy from them, so, I thought I could trust them. Totally not true. I had to switch from a regular bike to a recumbent bike for medical reasons. I asked Gary if the recumbent bike they had would work well as a winter bike and he said very enthusiastically that it absolutely would. He also said he would make me a set of studded tires for winter use. Both the front and the rear flatted within 20 miles. That is not what I would call a good winter bike. I would not buy another thing from them even if they were the last bike shop on Earth. There are plenty of other good bike shops nearby. Stay away from these clowns they will not provide you with good information nor will they support you after you buy from them. If I could give them zero stars, I would. read more
