We typically dine her a few times per year. The food is relatively consistent. I've never had a bad meal here. I like that the menu is on the smaller side. Our most recent visit was just "ok". The meatballs were served almost immediately, while they tasted yummy they were like warm inside. The mains were delicious. The service tends to be hit and miss. Sicilian Pasta Kitchen serves the best pasta in town, in my opinion. They don't have too many vegetarian options, but occasionally, the server (or the chef) is willing to serve a dish without the meat. The gnocchi is always an excellent vegetarian choice - a lovely velvety texture, neither mushy nor gummy. The other pastas are very good as well. For appetizers, the risotto balls are a favourite. Crisp on the outside and steamy and bursting with flavour on the inside. The salads are all top-notch. I have had the pizzas before, and they are fine, though if I am really wanting pizza in the neighbourhood, I'll likely go to Famosos. Still the pizzas can be a nice addition to a well-rounded meal with other main dishes. But one of the best reasons to come to Sicilian Pasta Kitchen is the dessert menu. Their tiramisu is to die for. And the key lime cheesecake is lovely, too. I have learned to get half of my meal boxed up to save room for dessert. I've also come to SPK on a few occasions just for dessert. I would encourage you to make reservations on the weekend as this place fills up and has been known to have a 45-60 minute wait for a table. The patio is quite pleasant in the summer. read more

Well, our visit last night was certainly a surprise, and a bit of a disappointment. If I could tack and extra half star on, I would, but I feel it's closer to two than three, so there it is. The first thing we noticed was the new menu layout. Hey, that happens sometimes, not a big deal. Then we noticed that some items had changed, and a few were missing altogether. Okay, that was a little more concerning, but still manageable. Then, we noticed the prices. Holy cow! Dishes that used to cost $14-$16 were now $19. That is a steep increase for no obvious reason. We decided to get our regular dishes, so see of they had changed at all, with a bowl of the soup of the day to start. The soup, a broccoli cheddar, was good, but not $8 good. Shawn got the alla diavolla, and the first thing he noticed was that it had less baby lobster than it used to. It was still good, but they hiked the price and subtracted lobster from the dish. Not cool. I had the penne arabiatta. This used to be my favourite, but they jacked the spiciness up to a level that made it not overly enjoyable. I know that arabiatta is a spicy tomato sauce, but here's the thing: it used to be just enough spice to be noticable while still being able to taste all the other flavours. Now, you get a huge hit of tomato followed by heat that drowns out everything else. If I hadn't been so hungry, and if we weren't headed to a concert and too rushed to get something else, I probably wouldn't have finished it. Our server was great about refilling water, but that was about it. He never asked how the food was, or I would have said something. He also left us sitting with the bill for strangely long time, considering how few tables he seemed ton have. Oh well. At least the food was prompt and seemed to be fresh. They still offer table bread, but no longer offer cheese for your dish. Mine came with, but Shawn's did not, and being the cheese fiend that he is, he was a little bummed. I'm bummed about the whole experience. This used to be a favourite place, but with the increase in cost mixed with the decline in food, I can't see us going back soon. read more

This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants to go to for pasta in Edmonton. I have tried several of the pasta dishes and the standout is "Fettuccini con Pollo" always mouth-wateringly delicious. I like that they take reservations for any night of the week for any time that you want (it is hard to find a place that will do that on a Friday or Saturday night anymore). The portion sizes are huge; I normally cannot finish a meal but I can usually get 3 meals out of my one pasta dish. I think the drinks are overpriced (even for the restaurant standard) and the bread they bring after ordering tastes store bought. The servers are hit and miss but I understand there is high turnaround with the service industry. The scrumptious pasta dishes will keep me coming back for more every time. read more

The food is delicious and the place is set up like an authentic Italian eatery (I have never been to Italy but this place feels very Italian). I am not going to write about the food or the atmosphere. Instead I will write about the service. Me and my friends went here last night and since our last visit, over a year ago, the menu had changed. The 3 people I was with all wanted the same meal but after examining the menu 3 or 4 times they saw that their beloved entree was no longer on the menu. They were heartbroken (no joke, one of them was on the verge of tears). When the waitress came to our table, my friend explained to her that he was looking forward to that specific entree and how disappointed he was that it had been removed from the menu. The waitress delivered his grief to the owner and he had the kitchen go out of their way to make this entree, which had been taken off the menu over a year ago, just for my friends. They could have easily said sorry we do not have that item anymore but they went above and beyond what they had to and ensured their customers were satisfied. This is why I will never hesitate to go here or recommend it to anyone. On a quick note, the food is delicious they cook everything just right and they do not hold out on the servings. Every plate is filled right up to make sure you leave the restaurant filled right up. And the calamari appetizer is amazing! read more

My second time here was a much better experience then the first. The patio is just as beautiful as I remember. The biggest difference was the food. Last time I didn't get the pasta because I was told none of it was made in house. I spoke to the owner on this visit and he reassured me that the canneloni and lasagna are made fresh in house. So I gave the canneloni a chance this time. It's a vegetarian option with both a red and cream sauce on top. Not only did it taste good it was a huge portion. I definitely should have had the half order. I may have been full because me and my guest shared the veal/goat cheese meatballs. It was served with the same red & white sauces but the meatballs were so good on their own that it wasn't necessary. The serving came with 6 x 2oz meatballs which works out to a 12oz serving of meat. Hope you like garlic The pasta at Sicilian Pasta Kitchen was OK. I went for lunch and found it a bit expensive ($16 and up) for a lunch. The pasta itself was OK, but on the cool side when it arrived and cold by the time I finished my meal. The service was average. And all the pasta dishes we tried were extremely garlic-y. I am giving the low rating to the restaurant because they have a VERY annoying routine for reservations of parties greater than 8. I called in early October to make reservations for mid-November for a group of 10 people. The lady taking my call couldn't take my reservation, she said the Manager 'Joe' had to call me to confirm. I thought this was strange as usually when you call to make a reservation you know the date, time and number of people in your party. Joe called me back the next day to confirm my reservation and he asked me 3 or 4 times if I was sure on the number of people in my party and if I was positive about the date (Saturday, November 14th). On the third time of being asked if I was sure of my numbers I let him know this was annoying and that I could count. He said he's been in the restuarant business for years and this was standard practice. I explained back to him that I have been dining out with friends for years and have made 100's of reservations and I have never been grilled about the # of people in my group. He then proceeded to ask if I was sure about wanting 7:00 p.m. rather than 7:30. He said this was prime time and needed to be booked a month in advance. Ummmm - really? Joe - check the calendar - it was 5 weeks in advance that I was calling to make reservations for 7:00. Joe made me sure of one thing during that conversation to confirm my reservation...... I will NEVER make another reservation at this location. In spite of this hassle making the reservation, we had an okay meal and the service was okay. I ordered the salad that came with Goat Cheese and Steak, there was about 4 crumbles of cheese so I asked for some more. They didn't tell me that there would be a $3.50 charge; but at least it was a serving of Goat Cheese! read more

I've been going to SPK for probably 10 years now and I, overall, really enjoy the food here. The menu has changed over the course of the 10 years but it's still one of my go to places. One of the best options on the SPK menu is probably their half and half, which allows you choose two different pastas on the menu. It's a nice way to get to try two different pastas, especially if you're having a hard time deciding. SPK's tiramisu dessert is also one on the best I've had - it's creamy and rich without being I really heavy and is perfect for sharing. Service is usually really great too and in the summer their patio is the perfect spot to have dinner and drinks. read more

I had dinner here on a Friday, it was not busy as it was fairly early for dinner. The food was not bad at all but service was not the best. Our waitress did not give us time to properly look through the menu and get settled. Gave very odd comments when she came to check on us, such as "you won't be having appetizer?" and "oh are you guys just taking a break?" Felt rushed having to choose our orders and did not get any friendly vibe from her. Took about 30 minutes to get her attention when we finished our meal to receive our bill. read more

I've eaten here a couple of times with family and friends, though I can't say either occasion was very memorable. I guess it says it all when I don't even remember what I had ... some kind of pasta ... It's not bad, just not memorable. It's usually quite busy, whether a weeknight or weekend evening. Make sure you have reservations! My friends and I came without reservations one evening and the hostess was kind of impatient and rude to us. Yes, reservations are always a good idea, but it's not like there were many of us -- we were a small group of 3. And it didn't take that long to actually get a table either, so I don't know why she was in such a huff. Anyway, it's a nice modern Italian restaurant with tables packed really close to one another, so close you can hear the next tables' conversations. Not that I eavesdrop, but you know ... sometimes you can't help it with people being so close to you ... Sicilian Pasta reminds me of Chianti, only with a more slightly modern touch; Chianti has more of a romantic ambiance compared to Sicilian Pasta. So the next time I get a craving for Italian, I might drop by. But it's more likely I'll go down a few blocks to Famoso instead for pizza and friendlier service. read more

The food is absolutely delicious here and completely worth the price. I usually have the spaghetti and meatballs and the sauce is always delicious! The meatballs are huge,moist,and flavorful demonstrating that there is always a way to put a fresh new spin on even the most basic of meals. The ambiance inside is beautiful which I believe is well illustrated in the profile pics. The seating however I feel is too cramped. I don't enjoy being privy to other peoples private conversations while eating. The staff is wonderful here and very attentive. We had a few questions about some of the items on the menu on our first visit and they were able to easily answer all of them. I was also impressed I never had to ask for a refill as our waiter had them out to our table shortly after I would finish my beverage. Overall it's just a great dining experience :-) read more

My husband and I decided to check out SPK because it's always so darn busy when we pass by. I'm not sure what the masses are so keen on about this place, or maybe it's my own fault for trying something other than pasta, but we left feeling disappointed, a bit ripped off, and we definitely won't return. We ordered the calamari as our appetizer, and it took a long time to come. When it did arrive it was laden with sand which of course is less than appetizing. Luckily we had our paninis and salads to look forward to. Disappointingly, the sandwiches arrived as two thick pieces of Italian bread enveloping minimal toppings, and toasted such that the cheese inside was barely melted. The bread to fillings ratio was way off, and because of it neither my husband or I felt like finishing our main courses. Needless to say, we didn't stick around for dessert, and sadly left $60 poorer for our experience. My suggestion: stick to the restaurant's namesake, pasta, and you'll probably have more success! read more

Now in my third summer in Edmonton, I still long for my favourite pasta restaurant in Vancouver [Cafe Luxy] which provides excellent value and good food. Hoping to find an adequate replacement I finally went to SPK, the Jasper Ave location, with a friend today for lunch. The restaurant is modern looking, though a fairly standard design. Floor to ceiling windows let in lots of light on a sunny late summer day. We arrived at 11:30am and were seated promptly. Our server was a young woman who did an adequate job but had to read the daily specials off a list she was keeping in her pocket. My lunch mate went with the half and half which was a olio/aglio shrimp pasta with a mushroom ravioli. I had the linguini granchio which comes with crab and scallop. My portion was about twice the size of my lunch mate, which was unfortunate as he weighs 100 pounds more than I do and eats considerably more than I do. My portion was large, though not too large to complete for lunch. The seafood to pasta ratio was a bit off given the $18 price tag. Given the margins on pasta, they could have put in a bit more crab or another scallop or two. The food was OK. Not bad, but not great either. Few other points were below what I would expect from this restaurant given it's look/vibe and prices. I was expecting more than bread with butter served in plastic single portion containers and ground Parmesan out of a bowl which probably is purchased in bulk in a 100lb barrel from Kraft. Both these are things I'd expect from the local Steak and Pizza place, not somewhere like SPK. I had a glass of wine and we both skipped dessert. With tip, lunch came in at $55 for two. Not a cheap lunch and for that money, I probably could have had a much better meal in the area. Still searching Edmonton for that great pasta restaurant that offers that elusive combination of good food and good value. Food here was OK, value wasn't so this isn't it. Channeling the delicious cuisine of Southern Italy and providing innovative menu items made from fresh, gourmet ingredients, the Sicilian Pasta Kitchen (SPK) has a long history of serving high quality Italian food to the people of Edmonton. There are a number of excellent Italian/Sicilian restaurants in Edmonton, some of which I truly love. I always, however, seem to end up at SPK. Again and again. Whether it's the comfortable, classy atmosphere, the friendly wait staff, or the delightfully warm freshly-baked bread, SPK has the spark and sparkle that can make it an everyday dining favourite. I've never had a bad experience here. I routinely order the same dish on a regular basis (sue me for not being adventurous - it's delicious!) and it's consistently great. Tastes the same every time. What is this dish, you ask? I'll get to that. During this visit, we started with the Cozze Siciliana - mussels, garlic, and leeks in a tomato white wine sauce. $19 is a reasonable price for mussels, but I didn't realize we'd get such a big portion. The bowl was gigantic! Most places will give you a plateful, but SPK delivers their mussels in a veritable salad-bowl-sized dish. If you're looking for a place to relax, eat mussels, and drink wine, try SPK. These were fantastic - perfectly cooked and simmered in a beautiful tomato sauce that added the right amount of flavour without being too overpowering. SPK also offers a gorgonzola version of the same, for those looking for an extra kick. For our main meal, we ordered the Pizza Siciliana, served with prosciutto, bocconcini cheese, basil, and tomato pizza sauce, and my usual, the Penna alla Diavola, served with baby lobster, grilled chicken, tomatoes, and a cayenne pepper cream sauce. The pizza was fresh and gourmet, akin to the Neapolitan fare of Famoso (but better), and was the perfect personal-sized portion. My penne, as I said earlier, was as good as always. The baby lobster adds a different touch to the otherwise routine chicken-and-penne combo, and the cayenne pepper sauce gives the dish the zest it needs. I ate the second half for lunch the next day, and it tastes just as good as the first. After our mountain of mussels and our fill of pizza and pasta, we were too full to order dessert. I've had SPK's tiramisu in the past, though, and can tell you that it's as good as they say it is. Delicious. The great thing about SPK, too, is that they're reasonably priced. Their entrees are a little on the pricey side ($30-35), but the entree-sized pizzas, pastas, and salads are relatively cheap ($10-18). For two of us, with an appetizer, two entrees, and two alcoholic beverages, the bill totaled to less than $75. If you're one of the few people in Edmonton who hasn't yet tasted of SPK's Sicilian delights, be sure to make a stop there soon. And, if you're a seafood buff, do yourself a favour and order a full bowl of steamed, delicious mussels. You won't be disappointed. read more

I had SPK for lunch, and it wouldn't be my first choice for pasta next time...not because it was terrible, but it just didn't really impress. I guess from the fancy decor and menu and all that you expect a bit more. (1) My pasta: Penne alla Diavola. Pasta with baby lobster and grilled chicken, both given in fairly generous amounts, but the pasta sauce just lacking that "kick". You know, when every flavour blends together perfectly. Big portion, but I think that happens at most pasta places, simply because pasta is filling. (2) Bread: what a let down when you the staff taking it out of a clear plastic bag near the kitchen. :( some freshly baked in-house bread would be so awesome! Or artisan breads from local bakeries! Whoever before me wrote "superstore bread" made me laugh because I think I would believe that this is from there. Anyway, bread snobbery aside... (3) Service: Our waitress wasn't very helpful. I mean if a diner is vegetarian, it'd be helpful to suggest which dishes would still taste good with the meat taken out, not just to suggest the two pasta dishes that originally have no meat in them. I think the best parts is that SPK is pretty "diner friendly": there is free parking in the back, although it's jam packed and you might wonder if you're really in the spots designated for SPK, they are great with taking reservations and getting you seated promptly, and the people working there, overall, seem pretty friendly. read more

Sicilian Pasta Kitchen (or is it PK now?) is a good place to go if you're really hungry and craving some Italian comfort food. I've been here multiple times, and service is always good and the food is always good. I usually make a reservation because it does get pretty packed. They took my favorite dish off the menu a while ago, but when I went back recently, I noticed they added it in again (linguini granchio - a creamy scallop and crab pasta dish) so that made me happy. I really like their caesar salads as well... the dressing is garlicky and fabulous. The portions are large and I always end up taking half my pasta home with me, which makes a nice lunch the next day. I have to say I do not like the renovations they did a while back... I used to love the more homey feel of the place, but I guess they have to compete with other trendy downtown eateries, so maybe it was out of necessity that they made it look more modern. We both had the bolagnese pasta - and it was delicious. I took more than half of it to go home with me "to go" and it was good the next day heated up. I will go back to this restaurant. I've only been to SPK once it was for a Valentine's Day event. It was amazing the food was great. The menu was full of diverse authentic Sicilian cuisine. The only downside was the service which seemed to take a while to get our orders to us, but that could have been due to the extremely busy restaurant because of the valentines event. The valentines dinner setup was exactly what we we're looking for, every table had a nice candle setup for the guests. I will definitely try this establishment again. read more

While the overall experience was rather Meh, the prices make me think Eek. No, I didn't get food poisoning, and the service was decent, if not warm, but this place is all style, no substance. I should have figured as much with a restaurant this pretty, but priced significantly above Chianti's, but below the good places. The first alarm was the bread that comes with the meal. This bread is OK when you're eating at a place like Saccomanno's where they charge $5 for a plate of pasta that's sitting in a chafing dish, but when you're paying $17 for a pasta, a lifeless, flavourless, white Italian roll, served with butter in small plastic containers, this is unacceptable. We then started off with their Arancini, or Risotto Balls, which were decent, but a little dry. They were easily the best part of our meal, which then went downhill when our pasta was served. My wife ordered the Cannelloni, which was only one of two pastas on the menu made in-house. And it appears that the Sicilian PK can't actually make pasta well. The Cannelloni were much too dense, and much too thick. Admittedly, I'm used to lighter, fluffier northern Italian-style Cannelloni, but these also lacked flavour. I ordered the Gnocchi, which my server mentioned were not homemade, but were still good. Based on the price ($17 for a Vegetarian dish), I was expecting Gnocchi made freshly by a local pasta maker, but these were the dense balls of dough that they dry up, vacuum pack, and sell at the italian centre for $3. And yes, they were gummy. And they charge $9 for a pint of Big Rock. This is usury. Perhaps this place is decent if you can stomach the idea of eating a baby cow (their meatballs and bolognese are apparently made of veal meat), but it's a poor choice for vegetarians. read more

I have been visiting Sicilian Pasta Kitchen on and off for the last few years and it has consistently erred in the "pretty good/great but not AMAZING" category. The food has always been great, albiet not fantastic or original, and the service has always ranged from passable to good, depending on the nights I've visited. The restaurant has undergone some changes in the last few years and it is quite beautiful inside, all though a bit cold and with poor acoustics. During lunch time or during dinner time on the weekends, the sheer amount of echoy ceiling space and bodies in the restaurant creates a very difficult atmosphere to have a conversation, but it's not a huge dealbreaker. The servers tend to be polite and efficient, but there have been a few nights when I've felt a little ignored. The food is typically quite good, but I tend to fallback on my old favorites (which include the Penne Gorgonzola, the arancini, the polpetta (goat cheese stuffed meatballs) and the spinach salad (with goat cheese, proscuitto, walnuts, etc). I admittedly haven't tried the pizza yet (I LOVE pizza...but figure why try pizza when it's a pasta kitchen... I don't know, I can't explain it). Prices are a little bit steep but portion sizes are quite large, so that makes up for it. SPK is a nice place to take a co-worker, have a first date, or take a friend for a casual night out of carb-binging. It's looks are impressive and the menu is large enough to have something that will please pretty much anyone. I think that a bit more could be done to turn this place from a "good" to a "GREAT" but am yet to figure it out! Either way, you can count on me to make a visit a few times a year. On an evening pasta craving last week while driving down Jasper Ave and with no reservations made, we ended up at the Sicilian Pasta Kitchen - first time visiting since renovations. Verdict? Much more modern looking but has lost a bit of it's unique charm. Service was great, as we were there before supper rush, so we had the near exclusive attention of the server. The complementary buns are nothing to write home about, sadly - definitely don't give off the impression of being homemade or freshly warmed. A small touch, but one that stands out. Started with the Arancini and a caprese salad, both decent. I had the daily pasta special (penne and sausage in spicy tomato sauce and cheese stuffed tortellini) and my dining companion had the Penne di Costa (braised beef short rib, tomato ragu) Mine was OK but I was pretty jealous of the short rib. We finished off the meal with Zeppoli - which needed a few minutes to cool (poke them and burn your fingers!) and those were probably the highlight. As an addendum - while looking up info, I noticed that there are different menus for the Pasta Kitchen on the south side and the south side menu does specifically mention "All main courses come with homemade French bread and Foccacia pan bread" Maybe next time we'll visit the south side location and see what else is different. read more

I love SPK. To be honest, I don't love the new facelift in the space. I feel like the renos make it look like Hundred and it comes off as a bit too trendy for my taste. I loved the old look of the restaurant, with walls painted to look like an Italian village and balconies near the ceiling. That being said, they didn't mess with the menu so it is still a go-to for Italian in my books. :) The menu is very reasonable priced $15-18 for most pastas, pizzas and paninis (all delish). The entree courses are, as expected, a bit more but not gratuitous. I was there earlier this week and had a great experience. I went with a friend without a reservation, so we did have to wait a few minutes for a table. NBD, and shorter than I expected given how busy it was. The service was impeccable. Just the right amount of checking in but still allowing us to enjoy our date. We had their antipasto plate, which was actually pretty standard and not my first recommendation but a nice way to start the meal. I had the spaghetti polpette and my friend had the chicken entree in cream sauce. Let me tell you about the spaghetti polpette. It is amazing here. They do a lot of great things with veal, and the meatballs are no exception. They are tender, fluffy, a touch spicy and just mouthwatering. You get four meatballs with your meal and I have never been able to make it through two of them. With the anitpasto I got through one and brought home two meals worth of leftovers(which I almost never eat but make an exception here)! We were too full for dessert (I've never been able to make it there at this place) but did have dessert coffees. My friend had the Spanish coffee, while I went for the Monte Cristo. I asked for light whip and they made it perfectly. We were there for nearly three hours and never felt rushed. The courses were spaced out beautifully. My fiance Matt, and I have been coming to SPK downtown since we started dating 6 years ago. I would say we used to come here at least once every 3 months. Our favourite things to order were as follows: Penne Alla Diavola Sangria (the 1 Litre option) Mussels Arrancini Cozze Gorgonzola Mussels I am going to apologize right now for the jumbled mess of a review (sorry!!). Everything used to be amazing, including the service. This was one of our favourite places to go enjoy patio drinks in the summer. We arrived here for lunch around 1pm on Sunday, October 15th. We were seated immediately and the only other table in the restaurant was just finishing up. The server greeted us quickly (the same girl who sat us), and asked if we knew what we wanted yet. I immediately ordered the 1 litre of red sangria, as they are probably our favourite thing about dining here. Unfortunately, as the server was carrying over the sangria, I noticed, and told Matt, that it did not look like their house-made sangria. The server arrived at our table, and started to pour the sangria. This used to be a nice cloudy purple color... It now looks like one of the pre-bottled sangrias you can buy at the liquor store for $8-$12 a bottle... Kind of a clear purple -which raised my next question. I pointed out to the server that their sangria was not the same. She confirmed that yes, they changed the sangria. So I tried it, and I let the server know that it now tasted like the pre-bottled sangria you can buy at the liquor store - she confirmed again that this is indeed what they offer now, as it got really busy in the summer and they could not keep up with making the sangrias. Matt pointed out that those sangrias are also cheaper to make, and she confirmed, again (not that we needed confirmation on any of these things). I told her that I loved their house-made sangria, and she said "oh yeah, we can still do that by request", but made me feel like I was inconveniencing here even bringing it up. So I requested a little side of pineapple juice and orange juice, and let it go at that. We ordered the Shrimp Bisque to start, which was very good, but salty. For our entree, we did what we pretty much always do here, and shared the Penne Alla Diavola. I did not bother reading the menu description, as this has never changed from what it was the first time we ordered it - delicious penne pasta, with a nice peppery cream sauce, with delicious bits of lobster and chicken... It seems this also is not what it used to be. This dish now has weird chicken that seems like it was previously frozen, all stringed together like it is not cut properly, and little SHRIMP. They literally took out the bits of lobster, and replaced it with cheap little shrimps. on top of this, the pasta was a tad overcooked, and the sauce was like water - nothing like what it used to be. So that was all obviously my bad for not reading the menu, and assuming that the menu item would be the same as it was when I was here last. The bill came and I was obviously disappointed to find that the litre of sangria was still $37. You would think that when a place brings in a crappy pre-bottled sangria to replace the previous house-made one-of-a-kind sangria, that it would ALSO go down in price, since I could literally buy the exact sangria at the liquor store in that crappy bottle for less than a third of the price. On top of that, being the only people dining in here the entire time (about an hour), they had 2 servers and a male manager (mostly just hanging out chatting the whole time), I was surprised that the manager did not once make his way to our table to talk to us about the disappointing sangria, as it was clear he was informed after I complained about it. After 6 years of dining here, we will not be going back. This used to be a great place to enjoy the real Italian feel, with delicious tasting house-made sangrias, and perfectly made pasta. The sad reality is that it now feels like an over-priced Boston Pizza. read more

The food here is great! I really love the gnocchi and the carbonara. The food comes quickly and the service was wonderful. Case in point: I saved half of my gnocchi tonight to have for tomorrow but forgot to take it with me out the restaurant. I returned within a couple minutes to retrieve it to find out they had thrown it out. However, they immediately rectified that by cooking up a new portion and having it ready very quickly. Sicilian Pasta is a classic stop for Italian in Edmonton. I've been there twice in the last year and have come out of there happily full and quite content both times. The name basically sums it up. It's Italian, (obviously) with a nice robust list of pasta as well as the usual pizzas, entrees, appy's and panini's. I enjoyed the atmosphere. It's informal yet formal at the same time. Both times were slightly busy, but the wait wasn't too long for a table. The appetizers. Brushcetta wasn't so great unfortunately. However the mussels with gorgonzola were delicious! There were many suspicious looks as the the last of the mussels were eyed. You could almost feel the tension. For my mains I've had the Linguine Marinara and unfortunately I can't remember the other one. There was eggplant involved... anyways. The Linguine Marinara was a fantastic group of seafood in a delicious tomato sauce with just the right amount of tomatoes to compliment the seafood. Whenever I go there I like to order one of the house wines I haven't tried yet. There's four, and I've had both the zinfandel and a very nice red. I'm, by no means, a wine connoisseur, but I really enjoyed both, especially the zinfandel. It had just the right amount of sweet for myself and the red as well.. even though it was slightly more robust. I plan on going again.. there's far too many things to try. Everyone I've taken has come out feeling very happy and will continue to recommend it to people. read more

Awesome!! My wife and I have heard great things about SPK and finally booked in with a group of friends. We started with the ceasar salad, crostini, bruschetta, arrancini (wow). If I never ordered a meal after this I would've been happy enough. I then indulged in the Penne alla diavola which has baby lobster and chicken mmmm. Finished off my experience with Nutella donuts. Who would have though those two would go together so well? We had such a good time that I'll now bring my staff in for our quarterly dinner!! The service was excellent and the wine even better. The service was great and the ambiance nice enough but the food was not that good. I came for supper with my son---whose favourite food is pasta and would eat it for every meal if he could---and neither of us was particularly impressed. He started with the caesar salad and said "daddy, this tastes like egg salad". Which it did---some leaves were drenched in gobs of salad dressing. Yuck. His lasagna came, but it was almost entirely meat. There were a few wisps of pasta floating in the meat, but a huge dump of spice and salt. He had a few bites and quit---the first time my son has not finished a piece of lasagne in his life. I tried it and thought it was almost inedible. Mine was the rigatoni pasta with sausage. And it was the same thing---almost all sausage and what seemed like several tablespoons of salt and spices and almost no pasta. Bizarre, for someone calling themselves a "pasta kitchen". I powered through it but everything just tasted heavy, heavy, heavy and unappetizing. And sooo salty. I still can't stop drinking water. Anyway, I write this review four hours later because I feel that same awful feeling as when I've overindulged at a Chinese food buffet. read more

Good tasting but really it's just overpriced pasta. $26 for a bunch of penne noodles with a couple shrimp and tiny scallops is a bit steep.

My husband and I really enjoy eating at the the Sicilian Pasta Kitchen since we moved to Edmonton a few years ago. My favorite is their pasta with spicy Italian sausage. The tomato sauce is always fresh and delicious and the portion size is quite generous. I tried similar dish in many other restaurants including one of the best Italian restaurant in Toronto - nothing compares. Their service is generally attentive and ambiance is lovely especially after the renovation. Highly recommended! read more

I've been walking past the Sicilian Pasta Kitchen for years, but when I finally wound up eating here, I was surprised to find that it was both a lot bigger and a lot busier than I'd expected. Sadly, neither the food nor the generally inattentive service provided an adequate explanation as to why. Our appetizers - a large but mediocre antipasto platter and a tasty bruschetta-like flatbread 'pizza' - arrived in a somewhat timely fashion, but it felt like a thousand years passed by before our main courses - green salads with chicken for my mom and brother and caprese for myself - were set down on the table. Granted, by this time we were stuffed from picking at the appetizer for over an hour and ready to go, but there was nothing amazing here either; my caprese was made with annoyingly bland tomatoes and everyone else's salads remained pretty much untouched. For the price, I really expected a lot more from the Sicilian Pasta Kitchen in all aspects and I definitely won't be going back. read more

This is one restaurant that my family and I have been coming to for years. Sicilian Pasta Kitchen was the location for my brother's rehearsal dinner and this is one of my dad's favorite places. Both my mom and I really enjoy it too because the food is really good and the atmosphere is charming. When we come to Sicilian Pasta Kitchen we all love to share the Bruschetta ($6.99). I really don't like the Bruschetta that you buy in a jar at the store, but I do love fresh homemade Bruschetta and Sicilian Pasta Kitchen makes a killer Bruschetta. Everything is in perfect harmony, the spices, oil, and vinegar and all the other ingredients mix so well together. We all love calamari, so that's another starter that we will usually share between two people. I remember when I was younger they didn't deep fry it, but now they do. It was really good before but now it's even better! I suggest squeezing the lemon over top of the Calamari Fritti ($9.29) when you order it. The lemon seems to enhance the flavor of the squid; it's delicious and so is the dip that the dish comes with. If you are a pizza fan then I suggest the Margherita pizza for $13.99, which is a plain cheese type of pizza with tomato sauce, basil and mozzarella cheese. The Rosario ($14.99) that is made with some kind of spicy sausage, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese and I believe the tomato sauce is also spicy is a mighty good pizza. So far these are the only two pizzas I've tried. I'll make sure to convince my group to order the pizza the next time we go there. I'm the type of person who knows what she likes, so with that being said I have to also say that I usually order the same dish once I know it's good. From the pasta section of the menu I usually order the Cannelloni ($14.99), which comes out in rolls and stuffed inside them is ground veal and beef, along with spinach and mozzarella cheese. I always get it with the tomato sauce instead of the cream or the tomato cream sauce. My mom enjoys the Penne Al Diavolo ($14.99) that comes with frilled chicken, shrimp and tomatoes topped with a cream sauce. I've taken a couple of bites when she wasn't looking and it's very delightful. My mom also loves sea food so she also loves to order the Linguine Marinara ($14.99), which comes with scallops, shrimp, mussels and some other kind of fish topped with a tomato sauce. Another one of my favorites is the Borsetti ($14.99), which is pasta stuffed with cheese (feta I think), spinach mixed with snow peas and ham topped with a cream sauce (it tastes like garlic so I'll go with a garlic cream sauce). If you like a lot of choice then this is the place for you. The Sicilian Pasta Kitchen has a huge menu with tons of yummy dishes to choose from. For me it's hard to always pick something new to try so that's why I just stick to what I know. The faster I order the sooner I'll get to enjoy my dinner. The servers are really nice and even during my brother's rehearsal dinner where there were a lot of people, the servers kept up a positive and friendly attitude. They really are great! The place can get really busy so if you can make a reservation then I suggest that you do so that you don't have to wait for a table. read more
