If you like beer, do yourself a favor and check out Siciliano's! Nate and I stopped in recently to browse and ended up buying a couple of mixed six packs. The store is pretty small but they have a huge selection of all kinds of beer, cider, wine, and some spirits, including lots of items I'd never seen before. The shelves of beer in the middle are arranged by location of origin (US, Europe, etc.), so if you're looking for a specific type, check out the coolers, which are labeled that way. The employees are happy to help you find what you need, too! We were asked if we needed help as soon as we walked in and Kati gave us the lowdown on the layout of the beer, as well as showed us some of her current favorites. The store also sells some bulk loose leaf tea and coffee, as well as beer making supplies if you're interested in home brewing. This is by far my favorite beer store in GR. They sell SO much more than beer, but their beer selection has my heart. You are greeted as soon as you walk in and they offer to help. They know that their selection may be a tad overwhelming, so they are ALWAYS there with recommendations. I love that their beer is broken up into Michigan & other US & international. Always something new to try, too! Love that you can mix & match everything, too. Lots of cold selections, as well. They have liquor (great bourbon, whiskey, scotch, gin, etc selection), wine, NA options, tobacco products: cigars, tabacco, etc., home brewing & wine making section, mixers, chocolate, etc. They have been having a lot of reps in lately with tastings, which is awesome. It looks like your average crappy liquor store from the outside but the inside is a whole different story. Inside they have a huge selection of domestic and Michigan specific microbrews along with a huge selection of hard to find Belgian and German beers. They say they carry over 500 in total and all beers are priced by the bottle so you can try anything without the commitment of a 6 pack. The staff also knows their stuff and is helpful in pointing out things you might like based on what you know you like. They were also hosting a home brew fest at a local park that day. I liked you were able to create your own six pack from any beer in the market. The staff is knowledgeable without being overbearing, they let you do your thing but are quick to help when needed. This is my go-to place for beer, coffee and whiskey. Selection is top notch, and I always know I'm not going to pay above state minimum. The entire staff is super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Yes, everything I was looking for I could take home as a single, I did not have to buy an entire 4/6 pack of it. It is one of the top beer wine and spirits store is in West Michigan Great selection of microbrews, wines and spirits of all kinds including frequently having things that are harder to find. The people are very knowledgeable and super friendly. It is also THE PREMIER SPOT in West Michigan to go to if you're into making homebrews and homemade wine as they have everything you will need to enjoy crafting your own. I'm not sure how "Convenience Market" is the official name of this place. It is a specialty store with a ton of craft beer, wine, breweriana, and brewing supplies. It is very nondescript from the outside so it is easy to pass. Also, the building looks like it could be an old Blockbuster Video. Don't be fooled! There is a treasure trove inside for winos and beer geeks. I stopped in here before a trip to Founder's which is about 4 miles away and they were stocking their shelves after a delivery. I asked if they had anything special, and I'm glad I did! They had gotten a limited delivery of a beer that was only brewed once, in 2012! You can't find this stuff on shelves anymore! They were extremely helpful and willing to dig through boxes to grab me a bottle. I highly recommend this to my out of town beer geeks. All of the locals already know. read more

The staff is friendly and helpful as well as super approachable people. The beer selection is great, better than most places in Michigan but less than a Total Wine or BevMo. This however does not harm my rating of this place due to the extremely wide selection of both local and distant breweries when it come to beer. There is also a HUGE selection of beer and wine making supplies, from what I hear the best in the city. I came here to learn what it would take to make my own wine, and was greeted by a very helpful staff member who spent probably 20 minutes explaining everything to me. I came back a few days later to purchase the equipment kit and an ingredient kit and my first batch will be ready in 4 weeks! The combo of hard-to-find beers and liquors, to the helpful staff and the abundance of knowledge and supplies for making your own spirits makes Siciliano's a great place. Best beer & wine store in the state. There is no reason why this place should ever get less than 5 stars. They carry every beer availible from their suppliers. From PBR to Chimay, Founders to Lagunitas. they have a bottle of wine or sake for most price ranges as well (for sake try Voices in the Mist). On top of beer, wine, and liquor, this is the place to go for all your homebrewing needs. The guys are super friendly and extremely knowledgable about EVERYTHING! You can tell they have a passion for it and arn't trying to just sell you stuff. Tons of pre-packaged grape juice, my mom loved the Malbec I got her. Carboys, and other equipment. They told me if I brought in apples that I could use their juice press in back for brewing my own cider!!! The coffee and tobacco selection is also one of the best in the city, perfect shopping place if you're looking for a gift for the man in your life. If you have any coinsiderations about brewing, start here. Go in to the store and start asking questions, they sell all their beer by the bottle so make yourself a sample 6 pack, see what you like. Also, the 50 bus stops right in front of the store so if you can't drive for one reason or another, you have options. I've always really loved this store! They have a great selection and the staff is really knowledgeable and friendly. I could spend hours browsing, but it would hit me right in the wallet! The drinks are expensive but the selection is so diverse and there are a lot of things there that you wouldn't find in any grocery store. It's also cool that they have the walk in humidor for cigars. There is a ton of interesting food and candy to browse as well. If you're shopping for a unique gift, this is a great place to go. I would recommend for anyone in the Standale area. read more

This place isn't much to look at from the outside...BUT, this place is SO much more than a liquor store. They have a wonderful selection of cigars, coffee (they have free samples in the store for coffee and it is DELICIOUS), tea (dirt cheap too), jerky/sauce gifts, cookbooks, and tons of home-brew gear. I'm serious, TONS of homebrew gear. I haven't seen anything like it near where I live. As far as beer goes...while they didn't have anything super duper hard to find, they did have a really great selection, for as small as the space is. They have all the Michigan essentials, lots of imports, and even a small section for ginger beer/root beer. As a beer lover, I was impressed. We ended up walking away with a few customized six packs, some tea, and some Faygo and spent around $30. Considering the calibre of beer we got, this was a good deal. I am a Siciliano's regular and live in close proximity. Today I went in and looked at tobacco pipes as a present for my brother. While asking some questions to the lady at the counter a worker (who was not at the counter) walked up and rudely interruped saying not to buy one. Do not get your brother a pipe as a present. Bad idea.... Confused I said "no he would really like one" and continued to TRY to interact with the lady at the counter. He kept interrupting and feeling very uncomfortable I turned and walked away. Not everyone is an expert and I certainly am not. I had questions and was seeking to make purchases and get informed. This guy really made me and my friends feel very uncomfortable and dumb for asking questions... Apparently we put him out of his resting place (behind a couple of boxes with his head atop his elbows). It certainly was not the experience I was hoping for, in fact; it soured me! By the way, I had intentions on spending likely over $300 on supplies and kegging... Instead you get $zero. It's obvious you dont need my business, so I wish you the best. I'm glad I stopped here, even though I ultimately didn't get anything. This is a great place to stop if you love craft beer and/or homebrew, as there's a pretty large homebrew section with helpful employees who know their beer. The most intriguing thing about this place is that it seems EVERY BEER can be bought as a single, and the prices are a touch cheaper than places closer to my house. Pretty fine beer selection. The guy working there though asked me if I was doing OK an abnoxious amounts of times to the point where I knew it was to prevent theft, which really bummed me out. I take my time shopping for beer to find can't miss things and to look up reviews on Ratebeer. It was my first time coming in and within the first 15 minutes the guy already killed my vibe and made me feel guilty for taking my time picking out beer. I understand there are asshole who ruin it for everyone, and I'm sorry if there is apparently a theft problem at this store. But you can still be helpful to customers without making them feel uncomfortable for something some other dickhead did. If it were just two times when he went "Hey man, if you have any questions I'll just be right here," it would be fine, and it would achieve both of his goals to prevent people shoplifting and to provide help. But it got to the point where he asked me just about every minute if I was doing OK. I'm not dumb, I understand what he's doing. Instead of being stoked about the selection I found myself checking out just to prove a point. I would have placed my selection on the counter and walked out empty handed, but I figured he would have felt like he got it right. I probably should have handed him my coat and asked him if doing that would allow me to take my time shopping for beer, because it got so weird to the point where I made sure my hands weren't in my coat pockets just to make HIM feel more at ease. I'm 25, I was pretty well dressed and I don't think I looked suspicious other than looking the beer over carefully. My fiance and I go to Siciliano's on a monthly basis. This market is the reason that I skipped the "shitty college drinking phase" and got into craft beer and spirits. The staff are very friendly and helpful! They'll usually ask you if you need help finding anything, and they've answered many of my questions in the past when I'm trying to select a new beer (without making me feel embarrassed or inexperienced). My best advice is to go to Siciliano's to try new beer, then pick up a six pack somewhere a little less pricey. Some of our favorite beers are only available here, but many companies, such as Founders or Short's, are also sold in grocery stores. This is the place for all the beer connoisseurs and homebrewers. Their selection of craft beers is second to none and you don't get the jacked up prices like you do at Martha's Vineyard. Recently they have expanded their homebrew section which helps out alot because my only complaint would be that it was pretty damn tight in there but now its very comfortable. The staff is very good with helping you with any questions you have regarding anything beer. Great selection, you can buy beer by the bottle (that is,you can make your own six packs), staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and when I was new to beer--more than willing to explain things and recommend flavors based on an immature palate. Thankfully, that's no longer an issue for me. They have a good selection of Michigan brewed beers as well--and they're nicely sectioned off from some of the others for easy grabbing. They also have a selection of coffees, teas, and cigars. I'm a beer snob, not a coffee or tea snob, and I don't smoke, so I don't know how they compare on that front. read more
